We came to our city ready to have revival and build a growing church. We thought we knew what to do and with God on our side we would be unstoppable. Then after years of disappointment, losing people so many times, our daughter backsliding then running away from home, our son’s faith getting rattled, and our own faith broken. Something had to give. We thought if you did it right, raised your kids right, and stayed faithful you were guaranteed revival. After it did not happen and seeing our marriage suffer, our family suffer, and ourselves suffer we thought it was time to quit. We met with our pastor and thought this was the end. During the meeting God spoke this Luke 13:8-98 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung 9 And if it bear fruit, and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. If you want to read a story about how in one year God can completely turn around 10 years of hurt and disappointment, fulfil lost promises, restore faith, and do far more than we ever imagined. Then this is the right book for you.
The writers were very transparent throughout the book, the feeling of doubt and concern, the struggles and ebbs and flow that come with ministry are often overwhelming. God knows what he’s doing and this book is a testimony to that. I have recently stepped into a pastor role and there were several points that encouraged me and helped give me an understanding to what I may experience. Also as a father of three children and a husband I could relate to some of their family challenges. Even if your not in ministry, the walk with God is full of different seasons, this couples journey is powerful and humbling as they allowed God to lead them through the storms. Thank you for sharing this wonderful testimony!
For all Christians regardless of where you are in your walk.
I nearly read this in one sitting.
Such a great testimony of God's faithfulness and two of His willing and obedient servants. This was an honest and raw tale of God's power made complete in human vulnerability and weakness, by the Marshalls choosing to obey and stay. God bless them! I've recommended this book to many and say to you, READ THIS!
As a church planter 16 years removed from our church plant, I needed this book. So much of this story relates to us. It gives me hope to stay just a little longer and see what Jesus will do in Marion Ky.
