Clayton French, closet geek and resident caretaker of Spikeway Housing Estate in West London, is about to prove the existence of extraterrestrial life.
He's going to wish he hadn't.
An alien entity designated the Omni-Seed™, escapes from an intergalactic research craft orbiting the Earth; it crash lands in his already complicated life, intent on destroying the threat of human civilization and his sanity. The fireworks display in the night sky was just an indication of how crazy things would get as twenty-four hours later, apartments were spontaneously combusting, mysterious flashing lights were enveloping buildings, and strange sounds were coming from the walls, ceilings, and floors. Then came the disappearances and the sightings of unusual creatures stalking the grounds.
Ylak Marrs, a galactic collector and adventurer, is on Earth trying to retrieve her escaped specimen before it fully matures and destroys all human life. She’s seen its terrible power before and knows there’s not much time, but she can’t save the planet alone. Ylak recruits an excited and terrified Clayton to her cause. With a motley crew of caretakers, residents, and a sewage engineer, aliens and humans must work together to stop the alien invasion from reaching over the walls and spreading into the wider world.
Pest Control is the fourth book in Urban Fantastic Shorts Series. At this point it’s hard for me to even imagine that just a year ago I started reading Anton’s book for the first time. This book overwhelmed me with how good it is, and how different it ended up from what I expected. Anton’s measured and contemplative science fiction is so incredibly enjoyable to read. Especially being co-authored with Akil Hewitt this book has more than any reader could expect in the story.
The story revolves around the main protagonist Clayton French who is the resident caretaker of Spikeway Housing Estate in West London. He realizes that there is something strange happening in his society where there are reports of pets disappearing and the sightings of unusual creatures stalking the grounds. When an alien specimen accidently crash lands into the earth, it was understood that it is going to wipe away the entire mankind. Ylak Marrs, a galactic collector team up with Clayton and few more and this strange alien and human partnership will start to work together to prevent the dangers that the world is yet to see.
This book is quite astonishing and fascinating read, complete with rich world-building, detailed descriptions of the society, and rich in imaginations. It's the kind of truly elegant and insightful book that doesn't come along too often. And it left my mind spinning with thoughts long after I completed the last page. Anton and Akil have never failed to surprise me with their level of imaginations that has been blended with the plot. I would rate this book with 5 out of 5 stars and heartily recommend to all Sci-fi lovers.
