Seven men, and the women who love them. Welcome to the world of the Eagle Brotherhood...When Romance author Elliot Jentry’s husband is killed in the line of duty, Elliot decides to leave the painful memories behind and move to Louisiana with her two children. She purchases a derelict plantation home in the hopes of starting a new life. The old home, originally named Sophie but now known as Purgatory, was owned by the family of pirate Louis-Michel Aury for two hundred years. The old house, built with the blood money of pirates, is full of legends and ghosts, as Elliot quickly discovers. Helping Elliot acclimate to the house is Nash Aury, descendent of the great pirate and Sheriff of Ascension Parish. A tall, dark and handsome drink of water, Nash is immediately attracted to the beautiful blond from California, gently wooing the woman with the fragile heart. As Elliot and Nash find themselves swept into a deeply passionate romance, old enemies of the Aurys continue to harass the occupants of the house and Elliot finds herself caught up in a centuries-old feud. As she struggles to overcome the adversity and restore the grand old mansion to its former glory, she discovers secrets about the house that are deep and dark. The ghost of Sophie MacGregor, the home's namesake, is seen walking the grounds on the full moon, looking for her murdered children. As the ghosts of a destroyed family search for each other, it’s up to Elliot and Nash to bring peace to the house once known as Purgatory as they find a deep and eternal love for each other in the process. Please This book was previously published as Purgatory by Kathryn Le Veque

This is by far my favorite story in the American Hero Series. Its insanely rich in character development and details. I love that its set in the South in a spooky planation house that has a life of its own. Its a page turner that you can lose your self in. The two main characters have a very sweet true love that seemingly blossoms over night. They are both in their 40's with children of there own, and I love how the author brings them all together to form a bond with each other. This author seems to literally bring all her characters to life. I haven't read one story by her where she hasn't exceed my expectations in this area.
Everything about this story is gripping...from the house to the characters to the history of the area. The hero ancestors are are woven through out the story from start to finish. Its even complete with an ancient family feud and ghosts.
It really is a PAGE TURNER I couldn't put down. I promise you wont regret checking out this story...
I was thinking haunted house book, ok so there are ghosts but they never made contact in the 5 times they showed up. This is more a love story and tge greedy neighbors story. This is not say that the book wasn't good because it was. I love Wayne Paige's male voices. His voice is a bit deep for the women's but he gave it a heck of a shot.
Sheriff Nash Aury is knocked backwards when he arranges to meet the new owner of his families dilapidated ancestral home. Beautiful, talented, caring Elliot Jentry purchaser of Purgatory is totally captivated by the tall, extremely handsome, muscular Nash. As they begin to renovate the old house together, they also begin on a passionate romance, but old curses, and lost ghosts get in the way of their happiness, whilst also coping with family life, which includes Nash's two sons Beck and Shane, and Elliot's children Alec and Penelope. This heartwarming and enchantingly emotional story goes from strength to strength as humorous everyday life gets caught up with pirate legend. Kat Le Veque does it again as she blends emotion, humour, love and adventure with this unmissable story. I absolutely loved each page and never wanted this story to end.
Yea,this is #7 for me,and the only one I didn't give 5 stars too! The story is great (spoiler alert) the last chapter let me down! Because A. Fire flys do not come out in February in Louisiana, a simple mistake! But B. Police officers who shoot through windows at an unconfirmed target (suspect) usually, themselves wind up in jail, especially with no announcement to acknowledge their presence! And shooting at an unknown target is frowned upon in all police, military and hunting activities! I would have liked ms Biffy to have been accepted, because I believe that is what she really wanted! And a great gramma role would have been a nice fit!
There is just something about the way this author weaves in an unexpected story to each book in the series. In this story there is Elliot and Nash Aury. They net when she bought the 200 year old home that belonged to the Author Family. She brought her son and daughter with her.
The family increases when Hasn't two sons come to meet the woman their Dad was in love with. The two sets of kids blended like they were raised together.
Add to this the story of Sophie McGregor With and this family gets no rest.
This romance has a little bit of everything in it. Pirate legends, buried treasures, blood feuds, and even a family of ghosts. Another book by an amazing story teller with an abundance of talent and a limitless imagination. It was sooo much fun to read. I’ll never get tired of reading anything by Kathryn LeVeque.
I really enjoyed reading this book and hearing about some of the characters in the story. I liked the development of the story line and I enjoyed how the father figures in this book was a father to all of the children. I also liked the love the main character showed for each other. Great book please continue such enjoyable stories.
What I liked best about Purgatory was the ending where there was a good twist. The story was pretty good but it was11:50 in length and fairly uneventful until it reached the end. I felt it could have had about three hours shaved off. It just kept teasing the listener with hints of something but nothing really stood out. With the fact that Purgatory was an old pirate plantation, this book could have been so much better.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I would have to say that Elliot was my favorite character.
Which character – as performed by Wayne Paige – was your favorite?
Nash was my favorite character played by Wayne Paige. He played all the characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No. I spent about 12 hours in one day listening to this audiobook and it was mostly uneventful until the very end. I did like when Elliot reached out and was kind to Ms. Biffy. That surprised me. I've read another book by Kathryn Le Veque and enjoyed it much more.

5***** Wow I loved this book. I normally prefer Historical romance but because this is written by Kathryn Le Veque I knew I would enjoy it. I was right. Our heroine is a romance author (may be Kathryn) she buys a house in the deep south that is very run down and haunted. The man she buys it from (our hero) is a very sexy sheriff. I like the fact that they are in their 40s. It makes a change from the books where the main characters are in their 20s.the grown children of our heroine are hurt in a vendetta that involved the hero's family. How that is worked out you will have to read for yourself. There is also a wonderful doggy hero. That I particularly loved. The ghosts and treasure play a big part too. This was a wonderful story I loved it. Go try it.
This was a fast moving ,fabulous book!I loved it from beginning to end!The pace of the love story was a bit unreal, but if you can believe in ghosts, you can believe that.Elle moves her teenaged son and daughter to the Bayou to make a new start. The house they find when they get there is in need of much more TLC than expected. The police chief, feeling bad because he'd been the one to sell the house, starts helping fix things and falls for the new lady in town. With neighbors feuding and pirate booty to be found, there is much going on. Wayne Page gives voice to all the characters and he does it well. Publisher's summary covers most of it, do not look for spoilers here. Louisiana bayou, derelict mansion, ghosts, homicidal crazies, good guys, and romance make for an entertaining read. Story is well thought out, but a little irregular in pace. Characters are well developed and generally all too believable. That being said, the best part is the audio performer. With deep voice, applied drawl, cadence appropriate to events, ability to vocally differentiate characters as well as portray their emotions/reactions, he truly makes this an audio experience not to be missed. Many thanks to AudioBook Blast for giving me the opportunity to be gifted with this book.
I really like this author's contemporary romance/suspense books; her characters are real and not cookie-cutter images of a perfect hero and heroine. A widow moves down south to a decrepit old mansion, but the former owner, the town sheriff, falls for her in a heaertbeat. However, crazy neighbors make the remodeling process a hard one,
