An Amish Cupcake Cozy Mystery #7

A Scottish Confection: Cozy Mystery

Rate this book
With her mousy hair and plain, humble clothes, Jane is a woman not many people notice. Not many people besides the dashing Detective Damon McCloud, that is. But when Damon’s visit to Scotland takes a dramatic turn and he disappears, Jane is on the next flight to Edinburgh. And she’s not alone. She finds herself in accommodation with surprising guests.

Jane isn’t going to dessert Damon in his hour of need. Her new friends might have seen batter days in the eyes of the world, but that’s not going to stop them from craving the sweet taste of success. They will navigate the Scottish highlands, creep through a castle’s secret passages, investigate Damon’s disappearance, and do their best to stay safe while the body count rises. And they are going to do it all with a smile on their crinkly old faces.

After all, time flies when you’re having fondant.

I love the characters in this series, and I usually get a good laugh or two from the books, but the plot on this one didn’t dazzle me.

This Cozy Mystery deserves more than five stars. The Author has gone beyond expectations with a healthy dose of laugh out loud humor added to this edge of seat Cozy mystery. I throughly enjoyed reading it and found it to be an entertaining page turner. The characters went well with the story line and I was swept in from the beginning.
This story is true to its title when Jane Delight leaves Matilda, Eleanor and Mr Crumbles behind and boards a plane for Scotland. Things have happened there that she wants to get to the bottom of. A kidnapping of someone Jane loves has taken place and after she arrives in Scotland a murder happens inside a charming castle. Is it possible the two crimes are somehow connected?

Arriving at the airport in Scotland Jane is met by two elderly women who easily could pass for Eleanor and Matilda. Readers get to meet two new characters Bonnie and Freya, who run a bed and breakfast where Jane will stay while in Scotland. These ladies are sisters and they argue as much as Eleanor and Matilda do. They also have a big orange cat who they call Mrs Porridge. These gals also are sleuths who drive Detective Campbell crazy with their attempts to solve local crimes like kidnappings and murders. We also meet Lady Nessa McCloud who is Damon’s mother and who lives in a beautiful old castle. There’s been a lot of thefts that led to kidnapping and then murder in this old castle and Jane and her two new friends are determined to get to the bottom of things and solve these crimes.

I recommend this book to readers of cozy mystery and to those who enjoy a fun read. This is book seven in the Amish Cupcake Mysteries. It can be read as a stand alone but it branches off the other six books. Enjoy!

A Scottish Confection is Book 7 in the Amish Cupcake Cozy Mystery Series by Ruth Hartzler.

This book will be most enjoyed if you read the other books in the series first.

This was such a FANTASTIC cozy mystery!

When Jane's boyfriend goes missing during a trip to Scotland to visit his mom, Jane is frantic and takes off to go find him in Edinburg.

Jane ends up staying in an Inn with two very eccentric women, who are strikingly similar in personality to her Octogenarian friends at home Matilda and Eleanor. Coincidence?

The descriptions of the Scottish Highlands are fantastic. This is such a great setting for a mystery!

There are hidden tunnels and secrets to discover at every turn.

The mystery was so well written, I could not believe who the killer was until the final reveal.

I absolutely love the sweet romance between Jane and Detective Damon. It add so much to this well written mystery, I was smiling from ear to ear as there are laugh out loud funny moments that only this author can deliver!

Jane receives a phone call early in the morning from Scotland to let her know that Damon has been kidnapped.

Leaving Eleanor and Matilda behind to help her sister with the bakery.
Jane books the first flight to Scotland she can to try and help find Damon.

Her elderly friends have booked her a room in a B&B not far from the castle that Lady Nessa, Damon's mother lives in.

Freya and Bonnie are the Scottish twins of Eleanor and Matilda, so you know things are going to be a little goofy.

This was a really fun story with a bit more humor than what was in the previous books.

Ms. Hartzler does it again!! This is one of my favorite series and she doesn't let me down in this newest addition to it.

When Damon is reported as kidnapped while he's on a trip home to Scotland, Jane quickly decides she must go rescue him. The sisters book her into a local B&B which, as she soon discovers, is owned by two feisty sisters like the two in America. When they all go to the castle to meet Damon's mother, they find out a very valuable sword is missing and the butler is found literally stabbed in the back. Are these related to the kidnapping or just coincidences?

There are as many giggles in this book as in the previous ones in the series and I adore the Scottish sisters as much as I do the American sisters. Read this adorable book after you've read the six previous ones in the series and you'll understand what I mean. You won't want to wait to see what mischief these characters get into next. I know I can't.

When Jane learns that Damon has been kidnapped while visiting his mother in Scotland, she rushes over to find him. Imagine her surprise when Matilda and Eleanor book her a room in an inn near Damon's family estate. The real shock is meeting the two ladies who own the inn and their cat.

As usual, Ruth Hartzler has packed more fun in the book than one can imagine. Her cleverness continues to the last page, with many silly and funny goings on! Wonderful characters (and doppelgangers) and vivid descriptions every page of the book make this a delight to read. It certainly brightened up my day/week! I loved it and can't wait for Jane (and friends) next adventure!

A Scottish Confection is Book 7 in the Amish Cupcake Cozy Mystery.

Wonderful book from one of my favorite writer, Ms. Hartzler.

When Damon is kidnapped in Scotland, Jane gets in a plane and plans on investigate what was happening. She gets accomodated by the sisters in a B&B that also has two octogenaries running it and are also investigating the kidnap.

Jane also gets to meet Damon's mom who lives in the castle not too far from the B&B. There, they find that the butler was murdered, stabed in the back before they arrived to the castle.
This is a really funny book, I couldn't stop laughing as I kept reading, I loved it! You'll find there is a missing sword, secret passages in the castle and two hilarious scotish ladies.

Jane takes off for Scotland as her boyfriend Damon has gone missing from his mother’s castle. Her roommates Matilda and Eleanor arrange for a stay at a local bed and breakfast. When she is met at the airport by the b&b owners, she feels that she’s meeting Matilda and Eleanor’s relatives. They’re just as eccentric as well as the b&b. Jane struggles to work on the mystery but nothing seems to match. Lots of laughs and mystery and hidden tunnels. An enjoyable mystery with a surprise at the end.

Jane is off to Scotland after her beloved detective boyfriend has been kidnapped. Little does she know the crazy life she thought was too much is nothing compared to her zany adventure in Scotland. Between exploring the castle that belongs to her possible future mother in law to the wacky older ladies she has her adventure with. You're sure to love this amazing read. Loved it!!

Damon is missing in Scotland, Jane leaves her friends behind & hops on a plane to go help find him. On her journey she meets many colorful characters, some even remind her of her friends back home. I’ve really enjoyed this series but this book was not my favorite. I missed the regular cast of characters. I look forward to hopefully seeing them in the next book.

I obviously enjoy these books (this is #7 in the series), but although quirky characters are a standard part of the stories, this book was a bit over the top! Jane's boyfriend, Detective Damon McCloud has returned to Scotland to check on his mother (who just happens to be Lady Nessa and live in a castle). When Jane doesn't hear from him for almost a week, and then gets a phone call from the local police that Damon has been kidnapped, she immediately jumps on a plane and flies to Scotland to try to find him. Her housemates, Eleanor and Matilda text her while in flight that they have booked her into a local B&B. And thus the craziness begins!
I have to say that it has taken me a couple of books to warm up to Eleanor and Matilda. They are supposed to be 80 somethings, who are very spry and quick witted, but do odd things. Turns out that the B&B they have booked Jane into is run by two women who could be their clones. Silly things like not using the car to drive the lane to the house, but instead having a bicycle pulled rickshaw that JANE has to ride to get them all there, having a car that is on it's last legs, and such. Then there is the cast of people at the castle, which (at least for me) became hard to keep track of. While I enjoyed this entry, I missed the Amish countryside setting and the characters I have come to know. I'm hooping for another book, where Jane returns home, and back to the people and places I love!

Jane was raised Amish but lived in NYC until recently when she moved back into the old neighborhood and bought a house from her Amish sister. Life has been interesting for her and now she has a dear friend who is from Scotland but works in law enforcement. His name is Damon and while he was visiting family back in Scotland he is kidnapped, so Jane flies there and meets some VERY interesting people who help her look for Damon and the murdered butler as well. The best part is all the fun! Great escapist reading and the sleuthing is great, too!

After getting a call that Damon has been kidnapped, Jane hops on a plane to find him. Though with Matilda and Eleanor making her reservations there, things get interesting. Bonnie and Freya are just like them and then even have their Mrs. Porridge cat. Cute mystery adventure.

A purrfect mystery! After thoroughly enjoying the first three Amish Cupcake Cozy Mysteries earlier this year, I skipped ahead and read the newest addition: A Scottish Confection. I highly recommend it. It has everything I have come to expect from this series and more! I caught myself laughing out loud a few times, I mean just wait until you meet Jenny!
