Captivity

Rate this book
Captive to the charisma of a powerful, sensual master--and a slave to his own unquenchable desire...

A winged man known simply as "the wild thing" has been free to roam the jungles outside Bendar City until he's betrayed, captured, and sold to a powerful lord who values the stunning birdman's unique beauty. Lord Adolpho Serratin of the Kalamadur Oasis maintains a collection of unusual discoveries, many one-of-a-kind, and "the wild thing" soon becomes the most beloved of Serratin's possessions...in more ways than one. He is given the name Orion Birdwalker, tamed, and trained to serve his new master in all ways, including those duties involving intimate service.

Captivity, however, is not what Orion thought it would be. His new master is a charismatic, sensual man who is firm yet kind, demanding yet passionate, who teaches Orion to serve, challenge his intellect, and master the "wild thing" from the jungles in mind, body, and spirit. But in a part of Orion's soul still lingers the desire to once again taste freedom and to fly free.

When Lord Serratin is called to mediate an agreement and returns to Bendar City for the negotiations, he is unwilling to leave behind his new intimate slave. But everything is different in Bendar City. To Orion, Serratin seems cold and distant. Intrigue abounds, and soon Orion is presented with an unexpected chance for escape. It's the hardest decision Orion will ever make, since he knows he can't have both his freedom and Lord Serratin, the master he has come to love. Will he choose to flee, or remain a captive to his own passions?

Adrianna Dane (who also writes as Tess Maynard) has been putting pen to paper since the age of ten. She currently resides in the state of Washington and is a member of Romance Writers of America, EPIC. and Broaduniverse.

The first defining love story Adrianna read back in junior high school was "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte, and that set her on the road to her long standing love affair with the romance genre. Her inspiration in writing often can be found by listening to song lyrics and reading poetry by such poets as Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Edgar Allen Poe, and Ranier Maria Rilke. But finding inspiration for her stories truly has no boundaries for Adrianna.

She freely admits she is a romantic by nature and adding sensual heat to romance with a dusting of suspense is her motto. "Esmerelda's Secret" released by Amber Quill Press in June of 2004 was Adrianna's first book, and with that story and her subsequent books has firmly established herself as a voice within the sensual/erotic romance genre.

Adrianna always looks forward to hearing from her readers and she may be contacted at adriannadane@yahoo.com. Find out more about her current releases as well as planned future releases and book signings by checking for updates at her website periodically.

I was planing on rating this with four stars until the ending. It's an endearing story about a harsh master and a wild man who used to be free. A lot of self-recognition and acceptance combined with doubt and confusion. It's a journey about a slave who falls in love. Good book with interesting characters and even more interesting world. Now, the reason why I changed my mind about the rating was the ending that frankly spoiled it for me. I can accept the unknown future and whatever tomorrow may bring, but I don't have to know that the Master will have to marry someone and have kids while the slave will always stay a slave. It doesn't matter that he accepts that role and he is happy with his decision, future, etc. I easily could have done without that one sentence.

I could easily give it 4.5 stars, if only it were longer with more feels in it.
I want my feels, I want to be buried in them!

This story had such a potential, but it fell short :( As it is, I can barely scrape 3 stars.

post-read ETA:
An interesting exploration into value concepts such as freedom, captivity, and the possibility that those two are a false dichotomy.

I don't necessarily agree completely with the conclusion drawn, but it's well-written nonetheless.

This is actually one of the rare ones which I liked, but not in a raving-of-its-awesomeness sort of way.

It gets a little cheesy at times, but I like that there's a sense of movement, of development. It starts at one mental state and sort of takes you to another.

One thing that's really weird is I feel like the reader's led to believe that the "wild thing" in the beginning was a sort of Enkidu-figure, but Orion could still understand human language, apparently... I guess not so Enkidu-like? And I don't quite understand what exactly he is. Were they trying to imply that one of his parents is a literal bird and there was some kind of bestiality mating thing going on?

Книга хорошо написана, но на обложке должно большими буквами быть написано: "Варнинг: это не любовь, это стокгольмский синдром". Не дочитала ввиду полной несовместимости авторских кинков с моими сквиками.

Ok, but not as dark as billed

I’m not sure why having papers means that Orion wouldn’t be able to continue as he was, only not enslaved.

Orion was often too educated in his responses to his master. For growing up wild, with no formal education, he was remarkably well versed in a variety of subjects before he received any tutoring.

I would have liked to have seen Serratin work on taming Orion more than we did. It was okay, but I would have liked to see more of a mindbreak than simply waking Orion to the fact that he might like anal penetration.

Recommended Read and 5 Angels!! Captivity by Adrianna Dane is yet another demonstration of the author's ability to bring a thought provoking and entertaining story for our reading pleasure. ... By the end of the book, both men had me viewing them through a different outlook... --NeNe, Fallen Angel Reviews

A unique plot and fresh characterizations place Captivity above the crowd. An inventive storyline takes readers on a journey of discovery.... Captivity has poignant moments of self discovery, self loathing and makes this tale altogether fascinating. --Lisa, JoyfullyReviewed.com

Very hot story! I wish it was longer as the characters and fantasy world were quite intriguing.
