On Christmas Eve, ten strangers at the Denver airport are trying to make it home in time for Christmas when a snowstorm sweeps through, grounding all flights. Stuck in the airport together, they’ll help each other discover the magic of in-between places.
Six intertwined stories unfold in the airport as the clock ticks closer to midnight: Landry runs into her ex-girlfriend Resa, and the two women hit it off like nothing ever happened—until things start to get serious. Unaccompanied minor June convinces Adrian to pretend to be her boyfriend for social media that evening, but what happens if she wants to stop pretending? Charles is struggling during the first holiday season since his wife’s death, and the resulting tension with his daughter only makes the night more difficult. Wes and Keely had hoped to sweep their fight about Keely’s career under the rug during the holidays, but being stranded at the airport will bring emotions to a boiling point. Airport employees Trevor and Kat have been best friends since middle school, but can Trevor work up the courage to tell Kat he wants to be more than that? Through it all, heartbroken Mariel is determined to end the worst year of her life on a good note, and ropes everyone into her scheme to make it happen.
Love Actually meets The Terminal set on Christmas Eve
The Mistletoe Connection is a perfect festive read. It's a character focused contemporary piece of fiction (if you're looking for genre specifics) that is heartwarming and gave me real and warm fuzzy feelings (if you're looking for emotion specifics). With multiple intertwined stories including ex-girlfriends, a lovestruck teen (or two!) and family bonds it's a real joy of a book and perfect to read at Christmas (or anytime you just want some of those feels, seriously, lots of feels in this one).
This is such a lovely Christmassy contemporary if you're looking for something a little less romance-heavy. It was exactly what I was craving, and I read this in one sitting. I'm especially impressed by how memorable all the characters were, considering you get to know and follow a lot of different characters in this book.
I loved every minute of this book. It was like Love Actually mixed with The Terminal (in that stranded at the airport vibe). Christmas at an airport seems really depressing, but this book wasn’t depressing at all. I actually felt very uplifted by it and definitely made me long for those uncomfy airport chairs again. I loved how all the different stories worked with each other because I’m a sucker for multiple POVs and storylines and how they came together at the end. Everything worked together so well; it wasn’t confusing and I wasn’t frustrated by the switching. I’m definitely looking forward to more from Chelsea!
Even though I read this book in January, I still adored falling back into the joy of the holiday season. One of my favorite Christmas movies is Love Actually and this book struck a similar cord with me. Following strangers stuck in the airport, the book examines how others can impact our lives and how one snow storm can change the course of the evening and maybe even one's life.
The characters were all fun. The plot lines compelling and skillfully woven together. And beyond the great craft and thought put into this book, the author did a great job creating a world within an airport that was easy to get lost in. I read this book in one sitting and was sad when it was over!
Def a great holiday read for anyone who loves Love Actually and the holidays in general!
This was a cute holiday story! I don't read many, so it was a change of pace. The multiple storylines were easy to follow and it was fun how they all intertwined!
CW: previous death, mentions of toxic relationships

The Mistletoe Connection is about connection and relationships while snowed in with strangers who are all doing their best on Christmas Eve at an airport.
I had a great time reading this, even the few characters I didn't like as people were perfectly suited to the story and it felt like they all had space to grow. The tension was in how they'd use this opportunity to be stuck with each other, whether they were strangers, old friends, family, or co-workers.
There were a lot of narrators but it was actually pretty easy to keep track of who was who, people were introduced gradually, with the early POV characters showing up the most, then other secondary characters getting a section or two from their POV later on once their place in the larger narrative was better established. The awkwardness in some of the couples was extremely relatable. I wasn't ever worried that something was going to turn out badly, but I didn't know what each couple's version of "okay" was going to be so there was a nice level of tension without it getting too stressful. Each of the pairs had very different dynamics without it feeling too much like a coincidentally different ensemble. Part of that is because they're at different points in life and thus have different kinds of relationships, so even pairings which could have felt similar due to some shared characteristic were instead pretty distinct. There were secondary characters who weren't in any of the couples which helped it feel like a real group of people at an airport and not the Coincidence Relationship Gauntlet. I especially loved the little girl who kept talking to people, every time she showed up it was wonderful and she reminded me of some little kids I've known.
I like how the characters’ peripheral awareness of each other helps build a sense of space within the mostly closed setting. They’ll notice strangers near them or in passing and then the reader can realize it’s one of the POV characters. The web of relationships between the people in the snowed-in airport feel natural and become gradually more complex as the evening wears on. It felt like what would really happen if they were stuck together but weren't really forced to interact. The way that all the characters worked through something and got to a better place felt good. The endings felt appropriate for each character, as everyone ended up with a resolution appropriate to the amount of revelation possible in a single night, and most of the endings are happy, or at least more positive than their beginning.
“Sometimes we like to ignore things we should know because we want something else to be true.”
Boy, did I need that reminder XD.
I had so much fun reading this, even if it was January when I did: the vibe was more snow storm than Christmas, which I was there for! Can't wait to read more from this author! :)
So I kind of love this book. It’s sweet, and heart-warming and an absolute feel-good read.
It’s Christmas Eve and the Denver airport is the victim of a snowstorm. With outgoing flights cancelled for the rest of the night, passengers are stuck anxiously waiting to get to their destinations for the holidays. Ten people are the centers of six stories about truth, heartache, forgiveness, and the magic that is the holiday season.
I so enjoyed this novel. Yes, there were several characters and several plots, but the author has masterfully intertwined them without creating confusion. It was easy for me to fall into each of their stories and I loved there was a LGBTQIA couple. I also appreciate that while this takes place at Christmas, the holiday wasn’t shoved down my throat. An absolutely lovely read and a rare gem.
Thank you Voracious Readers and Chelsea Pennington for my copy!
This is a very sweet story of a group of folks stranded at the airport by a snowstorm on Christmas Eve. Young, old, like all of us, they had their own stories and heartbreaks, but thanks to the efforts of a young woman named Mariel, who made lemonade out of lemons, their Christmases at the airport were saved. If you’re looking for a book to decode the meaning of life, this isn’t it. A quick read, I really appreciated being able to escape for a short time from covid angst into this upbeat, charming, feel-good book. Looking forward to more books by Mrs. Pennington.
4.5 stars! I loved this book!! I was a little nervous because I don't like short stories, but thats not what this is at all. This is the story of 10 people stuck in the Denver airport on Christmas eve, but all of the stories are intertwined and its done so well!! It was very easy to keep all of them straight in my head and each had unique but realistic storylines. I would say this book is mostly YA, but thats where my one complaint lies. Some of the character ages were hard to figure out and it made it harder to buy into the relationships (mostly Landry and Resa). If you're looking for a snowed in, wintery vibe, look no further! This was so good and I wonder where all the characters ended up!
SPOILERS AHEAD: LANDRY runs into her ex girlfriend Resa at the airport. Landry is all about being cozy but Resa is dressed up and I loved seeing them both alter their appearance as the night went on to meet in the middle. Landry just got broken up with and in the end we find out Resa is moving back to the area, thus allowing them to be together again. SOPHIA, ADRIAN, and MARIEL are siblings, all heading to Spain to move there for their dad's job. Aside from Sophia who is younger, they are all teenagers and the angst is high. Mariel also just got broken up with Adrian runs into a girl named June and she's trying to make a guy jealous over social media so she and Adrian start fake dating but by the end of the night its real feelings and they decide to give long distance a go. Not realistic, but sweet to buy into. KAT works at one of the snack stores and she has a friend named TREVOR who works in the neighboring pizza shop. He has feelings that he finally admits by the end. CHARLES is an old widower who has lost his wife and befriended the family. KEELY AND WES are a couple struggling with a disagreement as to if they should have kids or chase careers. LOVED all these stories!
What could possibly go wrong when you are booking a Flight on Christmas Eve, to get to your family and/or friends before Christmas? Well that depends on where you are flying out of and where you are headed for those holidays. Air travel is usually quite reliable, but for this group of passengers , the only reliable thing happening is a winter storm that will leave them stranded at the airport! Chelsea Pennington has managed to get an eclectic group of people together who have one thing on their minds and that is their Christmas destination! Family and connections are waiting for everyone. Some are looking forward to where they are going and some are quite hesitant. Everyone has their own story and we get to share in some of them in this book. What happens in the next 24 hours will keep you on the edge of your seat, as friendships are forged, some are rekindled and others are slowly brought around to accepting the changes that are about to happen in their lives. I enjoyed reading this book very much and could relate to the characters who are now having to cope with the cancellation of their immediate flights and find the beauty of Christmas! The airport isn't quite what everyone had in mind for the setting of their Christmas morning, but that's where they will be. The wonderful thing is that Christmas still arrived at the right time and everyone was filled with the joy of the season. A little bit of snow could not stop Christmas, ever!

This book was so so good !!!! This story centered around ten strangers at the Denver airport who are trying to make it home for Christmas when a snowstorm sweeps through grounding all flights.
This is six intertwined stories unfolding in the airport as the clock strikes midnight. A woman by the name of Landry runs into her ex-girlfriend Resa. They hit it off like nothing happened until things turn serious. An unaccompanied minor named June convinces a guy named Adrian to pretend to be her boyfriend for social media that evening. Then June doesn’t know what to do when she wants to stop pretending. There’s an older gentleman named. Charles there at the airport. He is struggling during the first holiday season since his wife’s death and the tension with his daughter which makes things harder. There’s also a married couple named Wes and Keely who have been fighting at the airport and being stranded brings things to a boiling point in their marriage. Airport employees Trevor and Kat have been friends since middle school and Trevor may want to be more than friends. Their stories are all connected while they are stuck together at the airport. I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know these people throughout this book.
This story takes place in Denver airport when the flights to Atlanta have been delayed on Christmas Eve due to a bad snowstorm and then cancelled sothey are still there overnight,
Ten strangers end up celebrating Christmas together due to the hard work of two teenage siblings and we get to hear their individual stories unfold and how they all interact with other. New friendships are made and old friendship repaired as they meet up in the airport. There is one couple with three children who are emigrating to Spain. The teenage boy Adrian meets up with June a lone traveller. Charles a recent widower listens to some of the other travellers problems and dispenses his wisdom. Keely and Wes, a married couple are having problems in their relationship. Kat and Trevor have known each other from school and both work in the airport shops and discover thing about each other. Landy and her ex Theresa who have not seen each other for ten years and meet up and renew their acquaintance .
This book explores the relationships between the people and ends up with a good feel ending as they all celebrate at midnight on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day.
This was truly my perfect Christmas book. SO many classic Christmas movie vibes (Love Actually, Unaccompanied Minors, The Family Stone, Four Christmases, Just Friends, Let It Snow, just to name a few). It included multiple love stories, and it was short and told in one evening at an airport so this was super easy and quick to read. This gave me so much serotonin in an otherwise difficult year and although I would’ve loved to finish this before Christmas, it was the perfect book to end 2020 with and I’m so glad I read it. As someone who has always aspired to become a published author but not really thought it could happen, to read at the end that not only is this a debut but also a self-published novel also just made me love it more and I was so inspired.
I will 100% reread this in Christmases to come. In case anyone is curious, this is my definitive ranking of each storyline ranked from favourite to least favourite (although I really did love them all):
1. Trevor and Kat 2. Landry and Resa 3. Adrian and June 4. Mariel 6. Charles 7. Wes and Keely
I enjoyed this unusual Christmas read. I wasn’t sure what to expect as this was a new to me author but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the friendships formed between the characters as they’re all stranded at the airport on Christmas Eve. I have to say I got really quite invested in Adrian and June’s new budding young love, it was beautiful and sweet, I loved the thoughtfulness of Adrian in trying to help June and trying to create a special date for her. Kat and Trevor were really sweet too. I loved the Christmas spirit they all create as they help each other and try and create the best of a bad situation.
If you are a fan of heartwarming stories- this is the book for you! A group of strangers are stranded in an airport on Christmas Eve, but they come together and help each other to get through their current problems. It turns out that when someone you do not know gives an opinion, you may be more willing to listen. Love really does conquer all! Pick this story up for a charming Christmas read!

I loved everything about this book. Having spent a lot of time in airports I was intrigued by the idea of reading a novel set there and I'm a sucker for snowed in stories! Plus adding Christmas in too? I was a goner. I knew I had to read it. The individual storylines were woven together seamlessly and every character was unique. I laughed, I cried, more than once I forgot that I was not actually snowed in with them! I think this one is going to become a holiday favorite to reread every year!
The book jumps about between different characters as multiple stories are told about a group of people all stuck together at an airport during a snowstorm. While it is multiple different stories the author makes it a point to connect everyone to each other in some way so that it is all one story. This is just one book not a collection of short stories. It all came together well and made a very interesting and well written story.
I really enjoyed the different intertwined stories in this book. The setting was great as were the different characters. I liked that every character had their own story and problems, and I really enjoyed how everything worked out in the end. This was a very easy read, perfect for a festive vibe. However, the story was kind of short and in my opinion a bit flat. One also had the feeling that it took place in this Christmas Eve bubble, with no further prospects afterwards.
This book was a delight. I really liked the concept of this and I think is something that could be turned into a movie really well. I thought the characters were memorable and unique, not requiring much difficulty telling them apart. I also appreciate there weren't easy answers to problems and things were left a bit up in the air for some characters.
This was a fun read set over the course of an evening in an airport. It follows several people's stories, who all overlap, and moved along at a good pace. My only criticism would be that there were no chapters, and in places the typesetting was off so paragraphs moved in the middle of speech which was annoying.
I received a free copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.
It's a cute story about a group of travelers stranded in an airport on Christmas Eve. The various interactions between characters as the night progresses kept me interested all the way through.
If you like Hallmark Christmas movies, this is probably a good book for you!
This was the perfect quick read i needed to start off my 2026 reading. The characters and overlapping interactions and stories were so intriguing and I kept finding myself asking “what is going to happen to them?” I also appreciate that it ended happily but also left space for wonder (i.e. Wes and Keely).
An enjoyable light read with many likable characters individual stories converged into one Christmas party. Well written and heartfelt. Thank you Voracious Readers Only and Chelsea Pennington for my free copy.
This book is amazing, I loved it. It was so fun and interesting to read and enjoyable putting me in a more Christmas mood. I enjoyed reading the characters I thought they were very well written. Without giving away spoilers it's an amazing book please read it.
A cozy and easy read that made me feel like I was watching one of my favorite Christmas movies. It was also a great reminder of how humans lives are so intertwined and how one small thing a stranger says or does can make a huge impact on your life. It was a beautiful story of human connection.
