Revenge is sometimes best served . . . in bed

When Lacey Mason was six-years-old, her family moved to the Hamptons. A beautiful location for sure, but not much fun when you’re the only kid in the area. When Lacey stumbles upon her next door neighbor, Luke Drake, on the beach it is instant friendship. For the next four years they spent almost every waking hour together. But just as Summer inevitably turns to Fall, all good things must end. As Lacey’s family sells their house and leaves the Hamptons, Lacey and Luke vow to stay in touch. But a dramatic meeting when they are teens leaves their friendship in tatters and Lacey’s heart broken.

Fast forward seven years, and 22-year-old Lacey returns to the Hamptons. During a night out partying, who does she run into? Luke Drake. The only thing is Luke doesn’t recognize her. At first, Lacey thinks it’s hilarious--a case of karma finally catching up with the golden boy--but then she realizes that all the feelings she’s buried for so long aren’t going to stay buried . . . especially when she and Luke are thrown together by internships at Drake-Mason Pharma.

Luke Drake wants to be anywhere but the Hamptons, and he certainly doesn’t want to be interning at his dad’s company. Luke’s got a secret make enough money to break away from his controlling father and strike out on his own. Then one night he sees a girl at a club and after an incredible night together, he discovers that the mystery girl is his childhood Lacey Mason. He knows what he did to her when they were teenagers was wrong and is determined to spend the summer showing Lacey that he’s changed…and that they belong together.

However, family secrets, including the one that ended their friendship in the first place, may prove to be too much and Lacey may not be willing to let Luke break the friendzone.

Lacey (22) & Luke (23)

So this one started off with Lacey and Luke meeting on the beach and her being 5. It's been quite a while since I've been around a 5 year old, but she seemed to say things that I don't think someone this age would.

"The beach was bare, nothing more than a stunning view for the windows of the extravagant homes that lined it."

"...but it was intentional that our dresses were the same color, and I envied the large sun hat atop her head..."

"The combination was heavenly."

This, of course, doesn't affect my review, but it just seemed odd to me.

Flash forward and now they're in their early 20's and haven't seen each other in 7 years. Not really sure how someone could be unrecognizable after this amount of time, but apparently you can be because Luke had no clue who she was when he saw her again.

Anyway, 2 things I can't stand:
~ young 20 year old's thinking they know what's best and are so grown up, then they go and make some really dumb choices
~ parents who treat their adult children like they have a say in the choices they make with holding money over their head.

This is probably totally going to be a spoiler but I gotta say it, ladies, don't do this ⬇️

"My birth control was trashed as soon as my breakup with my ex happened."

You can probably tell how a dumb choice came into play here.

Well new adult stories are not really my cup of tea at this point in my life (I requested this one over 3 years ago), but I didn't find it to be awful. A side plot is not really wrapped up neatly, so I'm wondering what's up with that.

Overall, I do like a second chance story, but the journey there was a long, rough one. For me and them. I did like the friendship they had with Rachel and Justin, who were there for them through thick and thin. Also, really enjoyed the epilogue and the sweetness with how he had planned it, too.

Happy to ✔️ on old ARC of the list.

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Wattpad Books and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: When Lacey Mason was six-years-old, her family moved to the Hamptons. When Lacey stumbles upon her next door neighbor, Luke Drake, on the beach it is instant friendship for the next four years. As Lacey’s family sells their house and leaves the Hamptons, Lacey and Luke vow to stay in touch. Fast forward to 22 years old and Lacey returns to the Hamptons, out partying, she runs into Luke, who does not recognize her, but all of the feelings are still there. Karma is when she and Luke are thrown together by internships at Drake-Mason Pharma. Luke sees a different side of what happened and wants to make amends of sorts. However, family secrets, including the one that ended their friendship in the first place, may prove to be too much and Lacey may not be willing to let Luke break the friendzone.

My Thoughts: This story was narrated by both Lacey and Luke, in a dual POV. It worked so well for this story and I love hearing both sides of the relationship gives a more complete picture. I love friends to enemies to lovers tropes, they just start out spicy and then end up spicy in another way. Lacey and Luke have a complicated story, with obstacles, but they pull through and I was very much swoony for them. The characters are well developed, Lacey and Luke had chemistry, they were witty, and their story was not without a little drama. You could relate to these characters because they were messy and were not perfection. The author’s writing was complex, had character depth, was captivating, spicy, swoon-worthy, and keep me engaged from the first page to the end. The pace of the book flowed very well and it was hard to put down, especially the later half of the book. The epilogue was beautifully written and just tugged at my heart strings. The story was balanced with character exploration, the plot, and then the spicy scenes. The author does such a captivating job at telling this story, this is the perfect light summer beach read. I would highly recommend. I will definitely be reading further novels from this author as I adored how things were pulled together.

3 stars ⭐️ Thank you NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I had high expectations going into this book and it fell sort of flat for me. The concept was good, but the execution wasn’t where I needed it to be and I found myself more intrigued about the Drake-Mason company than caring if Luke and Lacey ended up together.

I enjoyed watching Luke and Lacey find their way back to each other and spend time together. The romance was nice but I didn’t feel the connection between them. I liked seeing Luke deal with his work and family issues and it was nice that Lacey was there to support him through such traumatic experiences.

I'm absolutely sorry that I couldn't love this book more. 😔 Overall, it was good, I just wanted more and wished I enjoyed it more.

read this book after my coworker gave it to me to borrow and OOF

contains all the tropes i absolutely despise✨
-friends to lovers
-the mmc is blonde
-boring ass rich people
-weak and fragile fmc
-PREGNANCY TROPE??
-weird almost step sibling type of relationship??

where do i even start??? lets address the elephant in the room…. these 2 motherfuckers almost became STEP… SIBLINGS….? there’s a few major plot twists towards the end of this book that are really supposed to shake you in your boots but honestly gave me the ick. you find out the 2 main characters parents were having an affair when they were children for YEARS. not just a lil hook up.. their parents were in love and they did not know..? but they dont find out until AFTER THE FMC is PREGNANT??? so too late for them to be grossed out by that because they are now parents. they’re just more mad about it than aboslutely grossed out…

then you find out that the fmc’s dad had her mom killed bc jealousy right? so now she has no parents but we dont even see her grieve to that or even react really because she GOES INTO A COMA. yes, you heard me correctly, a COMA. And then the book ends with her waking up and then the epilogue happens where they’re all happy & horny while holding their baby… ew.

also the author wrote in the acknowledgments that this book is “smut”
no honey, this book is not smut. there is maybe a total of 3 “sex scenes” with only one being more than a page long. that is not smut that is lame. it is not smut if it fades to black or they just talk about having sex!!!!!!!

dont even get me started on tiffany bro… her jealousy and “villain” behavior is straight cringe. no ex fiance/girlfriend acts THAT immature its so basic and predictable.

also “i ship you” is extremely cringe.

i found ONE moment in this book to actually be sweet and make me go “awh” and that was when the MMC’s mom talked to the FMC about how she felt leaving her son behind to escape the abuse of his father. (which makes no sense why they tried to redeem the father in the end and then killed him off but ok) thats the only realistic thing in their book because parents are humans too who make mistakes.

we also got no conclusion on what happened with this family company of theirs. dont build up to them not wanting to work owning this company, kill their parents off so that they inherit it and then say nothing about the outcome of that. the only thing i know is that they lived in the MMC’s fathers house after he died.

i honestly and genuinely feel like this book would have been better if the FMC either died in the end or she lost her baby because i feel like her waking up from a coma with her baby perfectly fine was not realistic and this book could have had a really cool sad ending and we see the MMC grieve after losing everything he cared about and maybe actually have some character development but noooooo of course we have to have a predictable happy ending because this was a wattpad book.

The perfect light summer read!
You’ll enjoy this if you like:

☀️Enemies to lovers
☀️Fun friend group
☀️Steamy scenes
☀️Dual POV

I enjoyed the characters a lot, the main characters you could really feel the connection between and there was the most adorable scenes. The dual POV worked extremely well for this book. The friend group was absolutely so relatable, perfectly imperfect and just a total blast to read about. I loved the balance of character development, plot and steamy scenes.

Like mentioned, the perfect summer read. The author’s way of writing was easy to follow, witty, funny and so incredibly sweet. That epilogue has my heart. Seriously, damn❤️ that was one of the cutest epilogues ever.

This starts off a bit slow, and the ending a bit rushed, but other than that- a pure delight to read.

I couldn't help but get wrapped up in Lacey and Luke's story. It is nothing short of complicated but the journey of them breaking the friendzone left me with a huge smile on my face.

Lacey is a young twenty-something who is following in her late mother's footsteps as she pursues pharmacy school. Her life seems to be falling into place until her father tells her about them spending the summer in The Hamptons. The last time she was in The Hamptons her mother was still alive. So, she not only has to deal with her grief but she is hoping she doesn't run into her ex-best friend, Luke. He broke her heart and she was never the same.

Luke is in The Hamptons also on break from college. He dreads going home but it was always in the plan. He is almost a few years from taking over the Drake-Mason family business. And that's not something to look forward to. Sure he will be financially set for life but he won't be happy. But he finds that missing spark when he meets a blue-eyed woman at a club named Blue. No woman has ever denied his charm and this no-name woman just did. But she couldn't resist for long. They ended up in bed together and it was amazing. When the mystery woman leaves still without giving him her name, he vows to search the whole beach for her.

But the joke is on him because the woman who had him up all night is none other than his ex-best friend, Lacey

Over the course of the summer, they are forced to work with each other and try to resist each other. They share some intense and spicy chemistry. Lacey always had a soft spot for Luke so his charm breaks her down. While Luke wants to break being in the friendzone Lacey has her guard up. Can he tear down her walls?

I loved Lacey and Luke's story. They have their fair share of secrets and obstacles, but they prove will always come out on top. I swooned so hard and you will too especially when you see how much Luke truly cares about Lacey and vice versa.

I give Breaking the Friendzone 5 stars. I loved the author's storytelling. I was captivated from the very beginning and kept rooting for Lacey and Luke. I think their story ended in the most beautiful way.

This book had me cringing within the first chapter and I should have taken that as a sign. The fact that she was fully aware he didn’t recognize her right away (which seemed really unbelievable since it’s his ex-best friend) and still did what she did made my skin crawl a bit. Also the whole I used to be bigger and uglier but now that I’m pretty and skinny we can be together thing is also not for me. After that there was just way too many cliches. There was just so much going on and it felt very chaotic. The main character was so boring and almost childish in the sense that she just seemed very naïve. The synopsis sounded promising but the execution was not for me.

I would like it noted that this is absolutely not the cover of my ARC.

Content: smut level: gross

I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book has potential. If you can get through the first half, the last half is pretty decent. But there was a lot of scene skipping. All in all, this one is not for me.

Breaking the Friendzone de May Lynn

Argumento:

La venganza a veces es mejor servida. .

Breaking the Friendzone by May Lynn was soooo good! A romcom, alternating POV between the FMC Lacey and her estranged childhood best friend, the MMC Luke, there is just enough information to see both sides of all situations without forcing you to pick sides. Luke Drake and Lacey Mason are both in their early twenties, finishing up college and figuring out how their separate inheritances and company shares in their joint family business, Mason-Drake Pharma, will play into their longterm career and life goals. After the two families were torn apart when business woes and the losses of both Lacey and Luke's mothers, Lacey and Luke have not been in contact since their early teen years, but are suddenly thrown together for a summer and are having a hard time remembering why they have been apart all these years... Summer might be the perfect time to let loose and reconnect, but if they are soon to be business partners... is there really room for something more?

I loved how light and simple this book was without it being too surface level. It was an easy read, but also had an interesting story so I definitely wasn't bored! I liked that the author slowly revealed parts of each person's past and brought it all together at the end in a slightly predictable but not super obvious conclusion. This was definitely a steamy romance book, and there were some pretty intense sex scenes, but it was generally pretty tasteful and was interspersed a few times throughout the story, not all at once or taking over the entire book. There was also lots of buildup, both in the sense of introducing the sexual chemistry and foreplay, and also in that the character traits and relationships were well formed and helped set the stage for the romance and intimacy in those scenes. As a result, it was a true romance without the overly predictable cheesy/fake tropes or the out of context sex scenes.

The main characters were likeable, young but mature, and confident and self-assured. They were normal people who make mistakes but who you also want to root for. This book makes you want to believe in true love and following your dreams and would be the perfect romcom to throw back to the good old days of Katherine Heigel and Rachel McAdams romcoms (circa 2005-2015). I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a steamy romance novel with an interesting storyline, just the right amount of predictability and easy reading blended with some slow reveal plotlines and relatable characters. Thanks so much to NetGalley and Rachel Wu from Wattpad for giving me the chance to read and review this awesome book!

Rating: 4 adorable ✨
And spice? Because this book had SPICE: 1.5-2 🌶

First of all, I would like to thank the author and Wattpad Books for the eARC copy of this book. However, like always, this review is voluntary and 100% honest.

Listen, friends to lovers is a trope that is not a favorite but that I DO enjoy when done right. And with this book being friends to strangers to lovers??? I LOVED IT. My angst loving heart ate it up, as well as all of the adorable pining and love in it. Also, it was such a cute and quick read, which I appreciated since I wanted a quick read.

Luke and Lacey are the type of couple that you look at and instantly think, "wow, so that's what love looks like huh?" Seriously, I kept dropping my kindle at times and thinking, "when will it be my turn?" Rachel and Justin, I adored as well and I truly hope there is a book for them coming in that future. I NEED to see what ends up happening between them.

I wasn't even upset at the pace of the book because it wasn't too quick and yet it didn't drag on either. I feel like this story was told at a perfect space and although I saw some plot twists coming, I for SURE did not have everything figured out like I thought. I was at 51% when I started reading tonight and could not put it down until I finished it 2 and a half hours later.

If you love friends to strangers to lovers, this book is for you. If you love heroes that do not hold back when telling their person that they love them, this book is for you. If you love fast-spaced romance books, with good spice and swooning moments, this book is DEFINITELY for you. I was iffy when I started this book, but I am glad I gave it a shot and I hope you do too. It is definitely worth the read! ♥️

I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh wow!! This one thoroughly surprised me. This was my first time reading this author, and I’m always a bit skeptical when reading a new to me author. I was especially iffy in the beginning because it felt like it was dragging on and a huge info dump, but the deeper we got into the story, the more I was hooked in. This is such a perfect read for summer! Our main characters, Lacey and Luke, are so easy to connect with and feel so real. Their spiciness, banter, and connection kept me intrigued. The only thing that I didn’t like about this book was the ending. It felt so unnecessarily rushed. But, overall the writing is easy to follow and the story was sweet and fun! I should also note that I really enjoyed the side characters as well. I can definitely see another book coming with them!

This one was childhood friends to strangers to lovers vibe.

Lacey and Luke have a complicated childhood history and upon meeting again as adults he doesn’t actually remember her…. It was a fast, cute read with low to medium spice. I did thoroughly enjoy the friend group in this one too.

"Our history remains unresolved and now more complicated."

Books spanning over the years are fascinating. Lacey and Luke met when they were kids. They were close as close can be, and then something happened which caused their friendship to end badly. But, years later, Lacey comes back. Luke and Lacey are progressing toward their legacy of taking over the family business.

People are rarely who they appear to be. Unfortunately, parents tend to push their dreams onto their children. Sometimes they plan their life ahead of time and nudge their children under the guise of guiding them onto the right path. In reality, it's towards the life they had always planned, making them think their choices brought them there. The children, in turn, make life choices that aren't necessarily for them but their parents.

There's something about Wattpad stories that always seem to be able to pull me in. Were there some unbelievable/cringe moments? Sure. But were there enough to take me out of the story and make me pause? No. I was able to gloss over those moments and continue with the story. It was cliche at times. But it worked for me. Sometimes you want a cliche rom-com to get you out of your head. It was a much-needed break from reality. There were enough twists and turns to balance out the cliches. There were some twists I wasn't expecting. I loved so many quotes, but I obviously couldn't include them because there was no time and space, and it would spoil everything.

I was intrigued by Justin and Rachel and wanted to know more about them. I hope they have a book soon! I've never read anything from May Lynn before, but I'm glad I gave it a chance, and I can't wait to read more from her.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5)

OMG!! This book had me from the very beginning. If you love the movie “Sweet Home Alabama “ then you are going to fall head over heals for this one. But be warned you will need a box of tissues as this story is a beautiful but sad story. It will have you soaring high then it will rip you to shreds.

I fell completely in love with Lucy and Lucas. They are perfect for one another and have a sad, yet beautiful story to tell and it all starts with two little kids building sandcastles on the beach.

The author did a wonderful job of writing a book that would draw readers in. It was amazing and fun to read. The characters are quirky and entertaining. They were silly and snarky. But on top of it all they were grown, mature, serious and caring.

Which brings me to Justin. He is an amazing guy and I truly hope to read a story about him. He is strong, supportive, loyal and hopelessly in love with Rachel. I truly hope they find a way to be together.

Overall this book was a heartfelt and inspiring love story. Two people meant to be together trying to beat the odds lined up against them. It is an amazing journey they take, but it is not the happiest of stories. So be prepared to cry your eyes out as the author pulls your heart out and stomps on it a bit.

I highly recommend this book.

Lacey Mason had the best times of her life at her family's beach house in the Hamptons. That's where she met her friend Lucas Drake. After her parents sold the beach house, Lacey and Luke kept in touch until they were 15 when a bad encounter ended their friendship. When her mom passes away she makes Lacey promise to never fall for Lucas. At the age of 22 she returns to the Hamptons for spring break, and a night of partying lands her in Lucas' bed. He doesn't recognize her and and she sees it as karma, while he thinks he found his dream girl.
I liked how it went back and forth between Lacey's POV and Luke's. It told both sides of the story and made you see what happened in the past. This was a great romance with an interesting storyline. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

Lacey and Luke met as young kids at the beach behind their houses in the Hamptons. Little did they both know that the first day they met would change their lives forever. They created a bond and friendship that was so strong until one day things changed. Lacey was broken hearted over how Luke treated her and they never talked again. Fate had other ideas. They were now both in college and met again at a club, but Luke doesn’t have a clue the girl he is determined to get is Lacey. When he finds out the fireworks being and never stop. Secrets begin to unravel and hearts are broken. Throw in a few good surprises and you have a book I couldn’t put down. I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am very surprised at how quickly a fell in love with this book. It had me completely invested immediately. Luke and lacey are absolutely adorable and the twists and turns of the plots were very much unexpected and made this a super entertaining read. I would SPRINT to read Rachel and Justin's story next. Also, I am shattered with emotion from the epilogue alone; one of the very best endings and plot line wrap ups I have had the joy of reading in a very long time.
