The Stars Plot Revenge

Rate this book
Desperate for freedom. Fuelled by revenge.

Orison never knew that the Fae existed until the Fae King took her from the mortal realm. Needing a false heir to keep up appearances, the king turned her into a Fae against her will, and now she’s paraded around as his daughter whilst imprisoned in his castle.

Even with the risk of death, Orison will do whatever it takes to achieve freedom. Including a search for a missing prince to overthrow the king. When his tracking spell isn’t enough of a deterrent, the king traps Orison in her bedroom. It’s the final push Orison needs to enact revenge.

The king’s mistake is letting her watch a public execution, allowing the elven kingdom to offer Orison refuge in their lands behind his back. She jumps at the opportunity and with their assistance flees her glorified prison. When her choice sparks a fierce battle, Orison resolves to push aside her fears and make it clear she is nobody’s prisoner.

I recieved an ARC for my honest review.

The first half of this book was so slow. I struggled a lot to get drawn in and that didn't happen until the elves got a bigger part of the story. The way it was written didn't help either, cause I had a hard time to get lost in the world I was visiting.

A human turned fae by the fae king, because of a bargain. That fae king is an asshole and a mauler. Orison, the human turned fae, and the king goes head to head so many times, which is a big part of what makes it dragging.

However, that ending? Fun! Now everything can begin. Some really interesting characters as well and not just the love-interest, but friends too. I love the creatures too. A bit predictable at times. I devoured that ending and overall it's a good book. Unique in some ways. Like the magical abilities. I love everything that includes magic and adventure.

First off, I want to thank the author for the ARC. It's always nice and exciting when I get a new book to read, especially when it's an ARC.

That being said, let's get into it.

I love fantasy, I love the FAE and this had FAE and ELVES. It was quite refreshing and interesting how the author put these two together. It also has other mythical creatures, and yes, it has Dragons. Completely fantasy. The world-building is quite complex but easy to understand. The characters, wow, SO DIVERSE. Strong, unique, and loveable characters. You have, I think, almost every representation and it's done quite well. The writing is good, although sometimes I had to reread a page or paragraph cause I didn't quite get it.

For me, it's a 3.5. I really enjoyed reading it but I felt like there was maybe something missing, can't say what it is but I'm still excited to read the next book. It's an enjoyable read, and I will be recommending it to everyone that loves fantasy. Again, thanks to the author for the ARC.

Let's see where I can start with this book.

Since the author revealed the cover, I knew I wanted to read the book, yes I usually pick books by the cover.

The Stars Plot Revenge will introduce you into a fantasy world with royalty, magic, faes, and all kinds of incredible creatures like dragons.

It has powerful characters, a badass heroine, sweet friends, and the cruel character everyone hates.

At the beginning it was a little bit hard for me to learn all the names and I'm not going to lie, it was hard to get into the world, it took me a while (around 25% of the book) to really identify the characters by the names. But it was a nice world-building and an interesting story.

The ending definitely leaves you wanting more! If you are into fae books, you definitely need to give this book a chance!

Exciting and full of diversity

-I would like to thank the author for the eARC-

Orison was mortal and lived a mortal life. Until the fae King turned her into a fae to make her his daughter against her will. Now, she has only one goal in mind: her freedom. For that, she intends to find the missing prince in order for him to overthrow the King. Saved by the elven kingdom because of one of the king's mistakes, she flees her prison, determined to make things right in the kingdom. Between war, secrets and deceptions, Orison intends to stay free, no matter the cost.

Although I found the beginning of the book a bit messy and hard to understand, the second part was very gripping. I liked Orison immediately, she is fierce and determined, and I loved that she decided to fight for her freedom. Despite having a hard time understanding her relationship with Sila, I liked the other characters a lot. But what I loved the most about the book might be the diversity, in every way a cast can be diverse. I found it refreshing to see so many different characters and I found it rather well done. The action scenes were quite well written and there was a lot of emotional dialogues as well, which made the characters very relatable. The writing was a bit complex at the beginning, but it got better as the action unraveled. The revelations, although a bit expected for some, were really enthralling and I was excited to know what would be next for Orison and her friends. The world has a lot of potential, that was easy to see, and I loved the different "species" that were introduced. Magic, curses, dragons...the fantasy world created seems huge and I cannot wait to discover more in the next book.

I'd recommend if you're looking for a fantasy story with a diverse cast and a lot of plot twists.

I got drawn to this book after seeing the art piece with Xabian, Orison, and the dragon's eyes in the back. I was like: "I think I'm gonna love this book." And YES. I loved it. It has immense potential and I think Kerry did an amazing job of creating the world. Her first fantasy book is beautiful and I recommend it to everyone.
Orison is a bit naive at the begging, but in her situation, it's understandable and she grows a lot by the end of the book. I love her curiosity and the way she fights when her friends need her and even when a complete stranger needs her. The beginning of the book is indeed a little bit slow, being introduced to this world and some things seemed a little bit too easy to accomplish. This is the reason for the 4 stars. After 40%-50% of the book, the action starts, and, as a reader, you get more involved in the story. I, for one, couldn't let the book out of my hand until I finished it.
I seriously did not expect that ending at all and I can't wait for the next book.
Where the hell did they end up too????? In a different year? different century??? different realm???? wheeeeere are they??? and please let them be in the same place, in the same timeline!!! Kerry!!!!!?????!!!

I was lucky enough to be along for the entirety of this journey, from conception to beta reading, to editing, to publication (to drawing the map!)
I love how fierce the female characters are; we love a strong female role. Orison isn’t afraid to push back against her oppressors. The disability rep in this is also done really well. The way Nazareth doesn’t let it hold her back.
Also loving the healthy polyamory and trans rep!

The world was immersive and the magic system was great.
I know Kerry has big plans for the rest of the series and I’m so exited to see where this goes!

Bit of a slow burn start for me, but I really like the characters and their story line and how the story progresses. Looking forward to reading the next one.

This book had me captivated from the beginning! I loved the dynamic between characters, the world building, and the twists! There are POV switches, so you get the whole picture at times, and a large cast of interesting characters.

I’m excited to read the next book. Especially with that ending!

First of I want to thank the author for writing such an amazing book!

It had me hooked from the first chapter and it was a REAL page turner, I really didn’t notice how much I’ve read until I had to force the book down for dinner or something like that, it was like I was in the world with the characters and I loved it!

This book was really good and I want to learn so much more of this world and it’s inhabitants. I loved the characters in this book and the character developments was astonishing! I loved how Ori found a place and found herself throughout the book. The friendships and bonds was so warming and beautiful.

This book has so much representation, and I feel that it’s something I hope to see in more books so I was positively surprised to see this wide range of representation! We got a trans character, a same sex couple (who I adore! Riddle and Taviar have my heart), and a polyamorous couple!!! And it all suited so well together!

The end scene in this book was AMAZING and I loved how it wrapped up book one but introduced book two! And I can’t wait to read book two because the cliffhanger we were left with…. Aghhhhhhh!!!

This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and I was hooked. Character development and world building were great. Felt like I was right there in the fae realm with Orison.

Orison was kidnapped in the mortal realm and taken to the Kings castle in the fae realm. She is locked away and introduced as the Kings daughter. But Orison is determined to escape, even risking her own life. After an event, the Elven Kingdom wants to take Orison back to their land as a refuge. Buy what will happen next when Orison refuses to be a prisoner again?

Filled with magic, determination, strong FMC, elves, dragons, adventure and so much more. This book will take you on a journey way. Can’t wait to read more.

I received this arc and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

I'm so excited to share my first Epic Fantasy adventure with you all and hope you are captured into the world as much as I am.

This book is my most complex adventure in terms of magic system and world building. All the characters hold a special place in my heart (except Sila). So much went into this and each time I dive into the pages I get lost.

It was a year of hard ships and lots of reading to get it into your hands!

Enjoy!

It took me a while to get in to this book, Just took me a bit to get in to.
Really hated the Fae king and how he treated everyone.

Orison wants to find out why she was taking from her family but the Fae king put Shields in her way. Even with the horrible with the king, Orison has made friends that are like her family. That will help fund at what she want but without put her in harms way.

Orison has learned that Fae do exist, and now she's been turned into one by the king. Orison is imprisoned in his castle, made to believe she is his daughter, and longs for her freedom. So when she sees the chance, she takes it and that may bring about a war the king never seen coming.

I love Fae and the way the author gave us a different take on them. I haven't read too many books where people are turned into Fae. Orison was a great character and the way she dealt with her situation was brilliant. She's a smart, strong-willed person that took her situation and made it work the best she could.

The story felt unfinished, like we were missing part of it. There were portions of the story that needed a little more detail and information provided that we didn't get; however, the overall story was still great and provided an entertaining read.

3,5⭐ - it was good

First of all, the writing was very enjoyable, nice pacing and enought explaining. Very easy to follow and fast to read.
But there were too many chapter breaks, especially at the beginning. The smooth writing was cut too many times, which takes the reader out of the story, trying to figure out how much time did we jump, where are we etc.
So I get why that might make the beginning hard to follow.
The plot itself was good, but not very interesting to my own taste.
It's been marketed to be a baby of Game of thrones and A court of thorns and roses, but I see neither of them here....

As I am about to read book 2 (thanks L.J Kerry for entrusting me with your words) I thought I would freshen my memory of book one.
I read the Beta in September and now the ARC and it's safe to say that even second time round the book does not disappoint.
Orison's story is one that I feel most people will connect to, not being a Fae, but rebellion against rules she does not have a reason to follow.
The lands created in this are beautifully designed and described for you to feel like you are there.
Each character has their own unique story that brings them together within the pages.
I cannot fault this book hence the 5 stars. I feel like I have been on a journey and I need to continue it.

Ps you can already pre-order so get too it!!

DNFing. I'm 23% into the book and nothing has really happened. There are too many character POVs and the writing between the POVs isn't fluid. I don't understand how a lot of these characters are crucial to the plot since they haven't been well established. And there are too many breaks in the story...you get like a couple of paragraphs before there's another break into a different character POV. I'm having a hard time understanding why this book has such a high rating with how poorly it's written.

Poorly written, DNF. Couldn't get into it because of how clunky the writing is and the lack of depth and description. The "fights" between the fae king and his "daughter" were ridiculously immature and made me laugh.

I really wanted to like it

I think it would be a good book for young readers.
I enjoyed the world building. A unique perspective. The plot was the typical young girl in protest to being controlled.

I really wanted to like this book. It has a lot of potential. I'm usually not comfortable writing reviews that are not positive. I know how much hard work writers put into their books and I respect them so much. And at the same time, as a reader I enjoy getting sucked into good books. I don't particularly enjoy getting sucked into okay books because you feel that they have potential and you're just waiting for them to get better.

I really wanted to like Orison. At times she was a funny smart alec. Then at times she was incredibly immature. Really all of the characters were very immature. The king is supposed to be like 500 something years old and he acts like a spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum throughout the whole book.

Most of the book is very predictable. So what I'm about to say is sort of a spoil alert and not really.
He was supposed to be this horrible tyrant who put curses on both of his brothers. There are several different times when anyone could have killed him. During the final battle Orison finally goes to try and kill him (because no one else will). She's completely untrained. I think she practiced fighting like one time during the book. Her idea of why she thinks she can go into battle and kill him is because she's good at chopping wood with an ax. He supposed to be so powerful the people haven't been able to take him down and yet she thinks she's going to kill him. She then goes on to fight the battle with an elf by her side. The two of them together decimate the people in their path. It's just completely illogical that she would do this. She would have died in the first 5 minutes. Also during the battle the king is able to dodge dragon fire. At one point the dragon pinned the king down and somehow still the King dodged the fire.

I did not like Xabian. Xabian is probably the weakest male hero of any story ever. He has zero spine. He wasn't fighting for himself. He really didn't fight for Orison.
He became a dragon at night time and he had full access to the castle. He could have simply just incinerated the king while he slept. If he had done this then the final bottle would have never happened and all of the people would not have died.

There were just too many plot holes.

The following is where the plot gets unpredictable. Not because of good plot writing, but because.... well, it just doesn't make any sense.
The times the king could have died:
The enchantress seems way more powerful. She could have put the Nyxite curse on him instead (either time).
The poisoner could've killed him.
The healers who did not like him and actively plotted against him could have killed him (several times when he was weak).
Orison and Xabian could have been better at poisoning him (they just seemed to give up on that whole idea.)
With as much magic and sneakiness as the twins had they could have easily killed him.
Saskia knocked him unconscious!!! She could have killed him then!
At the end of the final battle his soldiers stop fighting for him. None of them really seem to like him. He never had a second in command or anything like that there was helping to protect him. Any one of his soldiers could have assassinated him while he slept.
The elf king could have sent an assassin during the battle to assassinate him and his own men probably would not have even have tried to stop the person.
He could have been killed so many times during the final battle.
It made the elf king look completely weak and like he had no idea what he was doing.

The romance. No spoilers here.
Because there wasn't any. Orison sleeps with one of her guards out of boredom. No romance there. Just mindless sex. Yuck. Not even a good steamy sex scene.
She also sleeps with Xabian. It's like there's a romance trying to build there and it just goes nowhere.

The book ends on a cliffhanger and I would love to know what happens in the second book. Unfortunately, I just don't think I'm going to be able to get myself to read it.

One thing I really did enjoy about this book is that the author brought in non-standard relationships and sexuality. There's a gay married couple with children. There's partners who are in a throuple relationship. And a transgender person. It's enlightening to see more and more authors adding these types of relationships to their books.

I’m confused with everything

3.5 ⭐️

This book is not easy to read. I love the hidden past trope as much as the next person but I like it when it does not affect the quality of the story. With the writing and the number of events/characters, adding an additional complex trope disabled me to lose myself in the story.

There are too many points of view and they keep changing throughout a single chapter. Sometimes the change is too subtle to catch even. I found it extremely confusing.

The story itself is quite interesting but I kept wishing there was a book prior to this one. While we got a glimpse of the past throughout, it was not enough. I did not feel knowledgeable about any of the characters to have a parasocial relationship with any of them. I don’t feel close to the FMC or the main love interest. They are simply the characters in the book—which is not a thing I enjoy. I love when I build relationships with my fictional characters and feel like I’m in the story world but this book did not do it to me. I was feeling confused and missing throughout it.

I found this book via Insta add even before it came out and added it to my calendar but that was not the story I was expecting from that amazing title.

Overall, To be completely fair, it is more about me than the book. I do not like books where the flow is not great and I have to spend hours trying to figure out relationships and stuff. I read many books quite frequently so I like books when they are easy to read.

decent but meaty read

Orison was unaware of the existence of the Fae until the Fae King took her from the mortal realm, the consequence of a Fae bargain her parents made with him. She is turned into a Fae against her will and installed as his heir while also kept a prisoner.

Despite her little rebellions risking her life, Orison will continue to strive for freedom. Even if this includes searching for a missing prince who could help overthrow the king.

As her freedom is stripped away from her, can she somehow find the missing prince and win true freedom from the cruel and power hungry Fae King?

This was a decent first novel to the series. Gave me ACOTAR vibes with the forced transformation into a Fae. Orison constantly goes from brave and sassy to terrified of the cruelty she has to endure though and it felt a little confusing at times. It was interesting to see the relationship between Orison and the people around her and the many different types of families and friendships. Felt a little slow to get through and at over 500 pages it was quite a long and meaty read. Quite a cliffhanger so interested to see what happens next.

Rating 6/5

Review

I love fantasy but I've never read FANTASY like what L. J. Kerry has written! This book was EPIC I was completely enchanted and sucked into the fae world. The MC Orison was kidnapped by the Fae King from the mortal world just because he needed an heir to be king. Orison is trapped within the castle walls and has only her professor and his kids for company. Orion has a rebellious streak within her and she rebels in her own way even though King Sila's punishments are severe! Orison was the picture perfect bad @$$ that everyone will love and her friendship dynamic is amazing, her support system is strong and the plot just flowed so smoothly! The writing was flawless and easier to understand unlike many other fictional worlds, the imagination element was activated thoroughly and the characters are so beautifully crafted! There are characters to love and adore and also characters to HATE!
A perfect read for the fantasy lovers out there, the fae world is waiting for y'all!

The tale about Orison, a human girl who was kidnapped by an evil Fae king Sila to become his imprisoned changed into Fae daughter and Heir of the throne....

But he only wants her for her powers and she only wants to escape his thorns...

It's a good story, I only had e few remarks in the beginning because it changes a lot during the story. Sometimes it's too obvious but you have to see through that and everything is better.. maybe it's just because it's the first book of the author so I gave it a chance and it's worthy of my reading. I would give it 3,5 - 4 stars.

Never trust a fae bargain

A villain I truly loved to hate.

A fate buried behind lies.

A curse waiting to be broken.

You’ll find all three in the epic fantasy filled with lots of world building, a cursed dragon, and human made fae princess that learns to take her destiny into her own hands.

While it felt long in parts the moving storyline and rich characters more than made fur it. All that’s left is to ask what’s next and dive into book two.

I liked this book, but I'm not sure where to start, so I guess I'll start with pacing. It had good, even pacing for most of the story, then it picked up intensity closer to the end. The characters were still relatable even though they had magic. The Anger, no, FURY that I felt toward the antagonist! There were a couple big twists at the end I did not see coming! And it sets up book 2 brilliantly!

Looking forward to continuing!

This was a good read, captivating, and filled with twists and turns! My only feedback preventing 5 stars: It felt a little choppy at times where I felt I needed to back track a couple pages because I thought I had missed something. But I hadn't. So I just kept going as the story was very good overall!

The whole plot is just
“You stole me from the human world and turned me into a fae princess and don’t let me do ANYTHING!! Youre not my dad I hate you!!”

Proceeds to piss the king off more on purpose and then complains about being treated like a child 😑

Only useful thing she does is randomly bake cookies as if a literal war isn’t starting right outside the damn door???

Be nice. I’m finding it.

There’s was a warning about the writing on this book but it wasn’t enough. I can stand typos, especially if I’m supporting something indie. But this was not the case. It has severe coherence problems on character building and the plot. If you ask why I stayed to end, well, I had hope…
