No roast for the wicked … Everyone in Stoneybrook is on edge as a high-profile trial takes place up north in the city of Cascade Ridge. They’re excited for justice to be served, and the boost in business as onlookers flock to the Cascade Valley doesn’t hurt either. But when the remains of the main suspect in the case show up just outside of Stoneybrook in a burnt vehicle, they realize something sinister is at play. Was it a freak accident? Or did one of the victims take revenge, just in case the jury wouldn’t convict? With Paul tied up in the case, it’s up to Hadley to help Suze with wedding planning. But when the investigation points to a local couple, it’s up to Hadley and the gang to hold the real killer’s feet to the fire. Recipes included: rosemary chicken and smashed potatoes
Eryn Scott is the author of heartwarming cozy mysteries. Her novels feature close friendships and strong families because those are the most important things in her life -- a little humor doesn't hurt either.
She calls the Pacific Northwest home and doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Eryn loves to hike, horseback ride, knit, ski, and read. She believes musicals are the greatest thing since lattes, even though she's not particularly good at singing or dancing -- hey, a girl can dream, right?
Her first cozy mystery series, Pepper Brooks, is based on some of the greats in classic literature. Each book features a different author from Shakespeare to Austen. Eryn's newest series is set in a little town called Stoneybrook. The Stoneybrook Mysteries follow local jam-maker Hadley James as she solves mysteries in her town's year-round farmers market. From deceased knitters to sabotaged florists, these crafty citizens keep Hadley and her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, on their toes. Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries are great for readers who love a hint of paranormal with their mysteries. These books feature a tiny town tucked between craggy coastline and rocky shores with quirky characters of both the living and non-living variety. Look for new releases from all three of these series in 2022 as well as Eryn Scott's new cozy series.

This book is part of the Stoneybrook Mystery series. Although a series, each book can easily be a stand-alone. This story centers around best friends Hadley and Suze. Among all the wedding planning, there are mysteries at every turn, including a murder. This was my first time reading a Stoneybrook mystery and I instantly loved all the characters in this charming town. I eagerly look forward to reading more in the series.

What can I say about Eryn’s writing? It’s quick witted, doesn’t disappoint and always leaves you hungry for more. Sometimes literally with the recipes in the Stoneybrook collection 😂
This cozy murder mystery is right up my alley and I can’t wait for the next book.
I’d suggest reading in sequence as you may encounter spoilers.
Stoneybrook's small-town charm is put to the test once again when a burning car is discovered in the wee hours of the morning with a dead body in the trunk. And on top of that, Frank's cat has gone missing. Wait. What? Not to worry; Hadley James puts her amateur detective skills to work to assist her twin brother Paul, the local deputy, to solve this murder, find the cat, and help her best friend Suze with all her wedding details. Afterall, she's got time on her hands while the Pretty Jam Good Shop is under unexpected repairs. But how can anyone in her delightful hometown be considered capable of murder?
Eryn Scott expertly paints with words to transcend readers to the town of Stoneybrook where sights and sounds of nature provide comfort and where friendships and love continually grow. Throw in the occasional murder and a few recipes and the story is complete. This heartwarming series offers a plethora of characters, a few giggles, and unexpected twists that keep readers hooked all the way through. A Grilled Suspect, book nine in the series, may be my favorite.

I loved this book. One of my favourite author's who never fails to entertain or create a great mystery, has done it once again. This is book 9 and as each book seems to get better and better the more you get to know the characters I can highly recommend each and every book in this series, in fact I did to my mum. I love the characters and as it is set in a small town you have met many of them previously and with each book you get to know a different one a little better, as well as the main characters whose friendship is made for the hallmark channel, in fact I can very easily see the series being made for that channel. I love the way Hadley as well as solving the mystery also has to help save a cat. The mystery was good and I enjoyed the way the girls could still plan there rushed wedding while interviewing suspects. Normally I wish the author would stop taking up so much time with home life drama and just get back to the mystery but that isn't the case with this book because they are both cleverly woven in together and I just love it all. When Suze's gets a cancellation date for her wedding of just two weeks, getting everything ready in time with her best friend Hadley is going to be a push. But not even the girls in there wedding haze can fail to notice the tension of the biggest trail to hit Stoneybrook and the way it is effecting the residents who got swindled out of there hard earned money, especially when the suspect is let out on bail. When his body is found in a burnt out car Paul has to step back from the wedding planning and investigate the many suspects. Especially as his boss threatens that if it is not solved quickly, before the up coming election than Paul will be getting transferred. Hadley can't lose her brother and best friend for as long as a year and steps up to help. Can Hadley and Suze plan a wedding and solve a murder? With many of the suspects the people involved in making a wedding happen they just might. I like the narrator and think she is a good choice for the series. With her calm, versatile voice she is perfect to play the part of Hadley and her friends. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Hadley's Pretty Jam Good shop has to be closed for repairs after unexpected circumstances. Hadley is not thrilled, but it will give her more time to work on her best friend Suze's wedding. Suze is marrying Hadley's brother Paul, so they will go from being BFFs to sisters. The town of Stoneybrook is awaiting the upcoming trial of Nathan Brimhall who has scammed many people in the area out of a great deal of money as part of an investment scheme. Nathan gets bond and the day before the trial he is found burned in a car. There is a rush to find the killer for many reason including Paul, a deputy, possibly being transferred elsewhere. Hadley and Suze decide they will try to help Paul. At the same time they are on the hunt for Lionel, a lost cat, who belongs to an older man. Even though murder is serious, of course, the adventure with tracking down the cat add lightness to the story. I found all the main characters very engaging and the plot flowed very well. A Grilled Suspect is my first foray into the Stoneybrook mystery series. It stood very well on its own and it was easy to follow. I have read all the Pebble Coves series. They are charming, interesting stories. It was great that recipes were included in this book. You will want to try the Rosemary Chicken. I am a huge fan of cozy mysteries and Eryn Scott certainly is a master storyteller in this genre. I look forward to the next book in this series and those in her other series.

I am devastated at how close I am to the end of this series.
Hadley and her community are one of my favorites to get lost in. Like the previous books we explore the main four characters personalities and lives deeper while getting to know another Stoneybrook local. Another cat is at the center of the mystery shenanigan's, and other case is rocking the community.
As this series gets deeper into their world, the ties to their community really shine, as well as that of the town over. Living in a small town myself, near a bigger, colder, town, I love how on point these dynamics are. Feels just like home every time I start a new book in this series.
For the first time, Hadley is experiencing life without her beloved Jam shop, and it's thrown her brain into a fog. While her store receives needed repairs she has nothing left to do with herself other than plan a wedding—oh and solve a case of course! *HADLEY FOR SHERIFF ANYONE?*
Her and Suze step in the thick of it, with both of their futures on the line, and this case has them diving deep in the the rival town. So many perfectly lovey moments between all of the cast, plus many hilarious moments from our favorite supporting cast.
I am going to miss this crew.
You'll love this series if you enjoy family centered cozies, that have deep small towns with expansive characters to love and tolerate. Plus kitties! All of the kitties are in these books.
Eryn Scott's Stoneybrook Mystery series continues to be fun to read and entertaining. When book 9 A Grilled Subject starts, things aren't going great for Hadley James. A leak was found behind the sink in her commercial kitchen, so she had to shut down Pretty Jam Good for the unforeseeable future. But then her best friend, Suzanne Till, informed her that she was moving up the wedding and would need her help. The distillery where she wanted to get married had a cancellation, so the wedding would be in three weeks. Meanwhile, Stoneybrookians were all a buzz about the Nathan Brimhall trial. Nathan was from nearby Cascade Ridge. He was arrested for insurance fraud and had been taking money from his clients without them knowing. Now he was a hated man. When Nathan is found is found dead in the trunk of a burned sedan, Paul is on the case. Sheriff Mark McKay is running for reelection and has a new rival--Grayson Chambers. He tells Paul to solve the case asap or he will be transferred. The news of a possible transfer is the incentive the sleuths need to start gathering clues. These characters are so much fun to read about as is small town Stoneybrook. I am hooked!
A high profile trial is ready to begin in a few days until the main suspect, Nathan Brimhall, is found in a burned vehicle outside of Stoneybrook. In a race against the clock, local deputy Paul has to solve the murder in short order before the election in 2 weeks or Sheriff McKay has threatened to have him transferred. In the meantime, Hadley and Suze are working on the wedding plans as they also try to help with the solving of the case. Can they track down the murderer in time?
Drama, mystery, turmoil, and suspense blend throughout the pages and keep the reader swept up in the story line. Characters are easy to get to know through their interaction and detailed descriptions. The book is well-written, flows smoothly and holds the reader’s interest from beginning to end.
I loved this latest entry in the Stoneybrook Mystery series!
A man who scammed a bunch of locals is about to stand trial, but then he's found murdered. The suspect list is huge as there are a lot of people he wronged, but Hadley is determined to help bring the killer to justice.
One of my favorite things about this book is that it really highlighted Hadley and Suze's friendship. They spent time investigating as they planned Suze's wedding to Hadley's brother Paul. It was fun to see them work together and how excited they both were for the wedding.
The mystery definitely kept me guessing and I think it's one of the best Eryn has had. There were enough suspects and clues to keep me guessing, but it wasn't overwhelming or convoluted.
I can't wait to see what comes next for Hadley!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
5 Star review A Grilled Suspect (Stoneybrook Mystery #9) by Eryn Scott
Audio Review:
A Grilled Suspect was an entertaining cozy mystery and one that I really enjoyed. From the first chapter to the last, I was riveted to the story that Ms.Scott wove, following the clues trying to guess the villains before Hadley, her brother and friends.
Narrator Jennifer Jill Araya does a wonderful job with her narration. Her voice is easy to listen to and I found myself fully invested in both the story and her narration.
Compounding the issues Had ley is not only trying to solve the case but help Suze with the wedding plans. Will the wedding go ahead or is it destined to fall apart? This was a book filled with a lot of intrigue and suspense and I was kept guessing until the end.
This was a very well written cozy mystery. The author masterfully used misdirection to keep the reader guessing who the killer was.
The stakes are high for Paul, Suze and Hadley for this latest case. Sheriff McKay has threatened to transfer Paul if he and his partner Kevin cannot solve the murder before the election. Hadley and Suze are planning the wedding while also trying to help solve the case. The gals are becoming regulars in Cascade Ridge as more clues lead them to the neighboring town. They solve the case but end up at gun point until Paul and Kevin come to their rescue.

Another Great book in a series! I'm not going to go into detail because I don't want to create spoilers. Just stop what you're doing and start reading this series! I highly recommend it!

It was a treat to visit Stoneybrook and all their fun characters again. I loved watching Hadley team up with Suzanne to help Paul solve the murder. I have to admit, I was stumped up till the end, I loved that it kept me guessing! I'm hoping the way the book ended means that we have another one or two coming in the future. I was gifted an advanced reader copy and I'm voluntarily sharing my honest opinion. I recommend this book, the whole series, and you won't be disappointed if you like cozy mysteries.
This series does not disappoint! Likeable characters (mostly!), close, believable relationships, charming locale, and an engaging mystery add up to a satisfying cozy mystery read! Hadley and crew are racing the clock to solve a murder and save Suze's and Paul's approaching nuptials and future plans. The vile, corrupt sheriff and the grandmother's irritating friend provide the tart balance needed to prevent one-note, pristine perfection. I always look forward to returning to Stoneybrook!
This is a great book, I really enjoyed it, the story line is very original and unique, it's a page turning fun cozy mystery full of mystery, action and twist and turn with delightful characters, it keeps me entertained as I try to figure out the mystery and murder. I highly recommend this book to any cozy mystery fans and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I say it with every review- this series is so good. I adore the town; it seems like the kind of place I could see myself living. Reading these books feels like visiting a familiar place. The characters in the series are all great, but for different reasons. And there are so many sweet cats in these books, always one that needs rescuing and a new home. The cases are always interesting and keep me hooked. I like that its not straightforward and keeps me guessing as to who the culprit is.
A delightful cozy mystery. This series is a joy to read. The characters are well crafted and become like old friends that you enjoy visiting with again and again. This story was as wonderful as all of the previous stories and you will be glad you took the time to read this book. Highly recommend.
Another great book by Scott! I adore this whole series — always well-written, well-paced, likeable and complex characters, plus a great mystery. Every time I think it can’t get better, Scott proves us wrong. Can’t wait for the next book!

Another entertaining installment in this series. I enjoyed Susie’s wedding planning and how this was intertwined in the town and the next town over. Can’t wait to keep the series going (hoping for another book set for 10-12).
It was fun to go along with Suze and Hadley as they plan Suze and Paul's wedding while hunting down clues to the murder that Paul is swamped down with.
this was so good. i love this series and the town. i loved the mystery and while i was definitely suspicious of who the killer was o definitely had multiple theories.
