A man isn’t defined by the worst moments in his past, but they can be hard as hell to leave behind.

Fresh starts are overrated. I've lived in Gaynor Beach my whole life, and I’m damn proud of it. I miss my wife like hell, and a grumpy mechanic may not make the best single dad, but the kids and I are doing okay right here. They’re not complaining—maybe because they’re never home. Teenagers.

Then a fresh start falls into my lap when the hottest man I’ve ever seen has his car quit on him. And if I can’t forget the feel of his arms around me when he rode on the back of my bike…well, nobody needs to know that except me.

But now Micah’s introducing me to worlds I’ve never been a part of before, or even imagined I could be. Worlds with ropes and explosive chemistry and adventures much bigger than our rides in the Southern California sunshine. Being with him feels like the biggest risk I’ve ever taken—and not everyone in town wants us to take this chance together.

I hope we can hang on when the ride gets bumpy.

JAKE is an angsty opposites-attract Romance in the Single Dads of Gaynor Beach world with a grumpy mechanic, a sunshiny high school teacher with a secret, size difference and a few first times, and three teenagers who are more perceptive than their parents bargained for.

I really enjoyed this story of two middle-aged men navigating changes in their lives, and finding in each other that perfect fit. Jake's a widower who's been raising two teen children in a locked-down narrowness of home and work. Emotionally, physically, he's felt neither energy nor need for anything more since his beloved wife died. He's a mechanic and one day he comes across Micah, stuck with a broken car. Between giving Micah a lift to his work at the high school, and fixing his car, Jake experiences a breath of fresh air into the stultifying box he's been locked in.

Jake always knew he was bi, but he's never acted on it with another man. In Micah, he experiences not just the first real attraction he's felt since losing his wife, but a connection and a matching of needs and desires he had no idea he was looking for. The BDSM happens fast, and with less discussion than I would've hoped for between an experienced Dom and completely naive sub. But I believed in Jake's self-discoveries, his eagerness for a power-exchange, and the way Micah took care of him. I also really appreciate that his first love isn't diminished or devalued by finding something very different the second time.

Micah has troubles of his own. He moved to Gaynor Beach to be near his lesbian sister and her wife, and their son, for whom he served as the sperm donor. He'd planned to make it a one-and-done gift, but as soon as he met the tiny baby, he became a father in truth. The three of them have worked out a comfortable co-parenting arrangement, and Micah's enjoying teaching and having more time with his son. But his past might be catching up with him, and endangering everything they've built. His determination to handle things by himself, without having any great ideas on how to approach that, both puts a spanner in his relationship with Jake, and becomes his biggest flaw.

Both men developed and learned in this story, and came out of it believably in love, and with new self-awareness. I liked that this was true not just for the inexperienced man, but for both of them. The teenage kids are well done, imperfect, challenging, growing as individuals. The plot issues work to move the story forward.

As a disclaimer, I'll be writing a book in this series later in the year. So I'm delighted to have enjoyed and to be able to recommend the first of the Gaynor Dads.

What an extraordinary story, with kind, real, honest, complex characters, super intense, and with a surprising course.

Everything is so absolutely plausible, sincere, and natural, it was everything.
There is so much story about and around these men, the blurb doesn’t give away much, so I’m a bit lost about how much to give away. It would be sad to tell too much.

Believe me, when I say it’s intense, Micah left a life behind, but carries some with him, he loves to dominate Jake, and Jake likes it all so very.

Micah will not let his past collide with Jake and his kids.
He wants to take a step back and leave Jake alone. As if he can ha!

Living in a small town running into supportive friendly people is easy, as into the not-so-friendly ones. Bullies, who never lost that nasty ability to bully.

With kids around life is never dull. Jake and Micah’s families are entwined through their kids.

What a beautifully written story, with warm, real, emotionally layered characters who loved and cherished the other, not afraid to show emotions.
To get a look into their lives gave me goosebumps and blurred eyes. ALL the feelings! ALL the stars!
This whole story is exactly what I want from a narrative, thank you, author!

This is the first book I have ever read by this author and I absolutely loved it! It was so intriguing and the characters were so complex. I truly felt like I was immersed in this story! Jake is a widower who is just going through the motions. He has forgotten how to live and love. Jake is bisexual but has never had to opportunity to explore his attraction to men. Micah is a Dom and sure of who he is sexually but he is terrified of being in a lasting relationship due to circumstances in his past. These two men quickly realize they have so much to learn about themselves. When they meet, sparks immediately fly and develop this beautiful and meaningful connection. They have off the charts chemistry and are just drawn to each other. This was such a beautiful love story and I am so looking forward to more in this series!!!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Jake is still just going thru the motions after his wife’s death. But he’s starting to wake up. Then he meets Micah, who gives him the last push he needed.

Both men had history they needed to work thru to feel worthy of a relationship, even tho the chemistry was scorching and the friendship real. There are also outside forces both for and against them.

There is mild BDSM and first times in the story.

I liked this book, and plan to read the others in the series, and others by this author.

This was a new author for me and I was surprised at the emotional depth of their work. Jake, though bisexual, had never been in a relationship with a man and sometimes felt out of sync as a parent. Micah was sure of himself sexually but afraid to have a lasting relationship due to his past. Both men exhibited confidence in an emotional and gripping story line through many challenges. I really enjoyed this book including its BDSM as they balanced their love for their children with their love for each other. I received a copy of this book from Gar Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.

This book was very good. I love how this author creates such complex and compelling characters, especially when they have so much to learn about themselves and room to grow. Jake is a widower who has forgotten how to live. Micah is a Dom who is just dying to teach art to high school kids. In a small town, these two have a lot to learn about themselves and each other. And teenagers are much more resilient and observant than their parents think. I especially loved how Jake’s relationship with his kids gets deeper and better as he figures out how to be true to his own nature. I highly recommend reading it!!!

Well this was really really freaking good. It took me quite a while to read this just because I've had a super busy week and I was going through more audiobooks and ebooks, but I really genuinely enjoyed it. It is set in this small town and there's two single dads as our MC's. One, Jake, has two teenagers and his wife died a handful of years back. He is a mechanic and just trying to figure out how to be the best dad he can be. When he comes across a broken down car on side of the road one day he offers the very handsome driver a ride on his motorcycle to get to work. Handsome driver is Micah. Micah is a high school pottery teacher and artist and also a dad. He is gay but helped his sister and her wife have a child. Micah was also a professional Dom in his early twenties to get through college.

Pretty soon Jake and Micah realized that they have some mutual attraction and some mutual kinks lining up. I expected this book to be a little bit heavier on the sexual aspect but pleasantly it was not. I know that this is probably a downfall for some people but I really enjoy actual plot and I liked seeing both guys be dads and deal with their kids.

Another thing that I really enjoy about this book is that Jake has always been bisexual and it was very clear about that. I feel like there's a subgenre of MM novels where a character comes out later in life and basically trashes women and all of their attraction to women in the past. And thankfully this was not the case here. Jake loved his wife and talked about her all the time. He celebrates her and his kids celebrate her and his love for her is never diminished by his growing attraction and love for Micah. He is always been bisexual and his parents knew he was bisexual his wife knew he was bi etc. Technically his kids did not know but they were young at the time of his wife's death.

Then there is the aspect of Jake and Micah's sons also being on the queer spectrum. And that was such a sweet comforting joyful experience.

As for the kink, there is sexual BDSM and impact play. There's only one fully explicit penetrative sex scene and a handful of impact play scenes. For such a long book there is only a small percentage of explicit content.

I really really like this book but I wanted a little bit more at the ending. I wanted a little bit more of their life together being happy, hell even an epilogue would have sufficed. I feel like there wasn't as much actual on-page discussions about them growing closer and also their kink as I would have liked. It's a little bit more of telling versus showing but as a whole it was a solid book. I will definitely be searching out this author for more books. I also really really appreciate books that they use the entire queer spectrum when talking about queer people and it's such a small thing to do, but all too often it is left out especially in MM romance books.

Ah, Jake and Micah. *Happy sigh*

I spent most of this book debating who is hotter--which is a REALLY fun debate, btw.

Jake's the older, smaller, biker single dad--with a secret desire to be submissive, although he's never been with a man before.

Micah's the younger, built, artist-teacher single dad with a sexy past.

Between the two of them, they're super explosive. So much chemistry! Fans self.

This book has a lot of depth and it feels sprawling--in a good way--even though it's a small town romance. I really felt like I got to know the characters and their motivations and why they did the things they did. I also really rooted for Jake and Micah--I CARED about what happened to them, and I wanted good things for them. Always the sign of an engrossing romance.

Thoughtful, detailed, sexy, and romantic with a fair amount of angst. Go pick this one up!

I have to put a watch on this series. I really enjoyed this story and got so absorbed in the story. This is about two guys who are on the start of very different lives than what they have led. Jake a widower is raising two children. He has put his life on hold to center on his kids and job. Micah has totally changed his lifestyle from what he was in college. He has an arrangement with his son’s mom’s about how much he is involved with them and his son. I felt this is an instant attraction story. But the challenges of daily life interferes in a relationship between them. It’s the everyday life that kept me so focused. Just like real life there are the problems that come up with jobs, family and unexpected situations. Living in a small town there is the issue with everyone knowing everyone’s business. Then there are the acquaintances that anyone could only wish would disappear but are always around to remind you why you dislike them. When the past causes Micah to consider moving I enjoyed the reaction from Jake. The characters are so likable. The way they handle issues is top notch. I just hated to see this story end.

Micah and Jake’s story is very interesting to say the least. I have a love for single dad m/m love stories and this one is right there on top with some of my favourites. Micah might be the smaller man out of the two but he’s definitely not the submissive partner in this relationship. I always love a small top. It shows everyone that you can stereotype people. Just because you are small doesn’t mean you can’t dominate everything or everyone in your life. And Micah is an amazing example of this. Jake thrives on his dominates and the burly mechanic goes to mush for his man. Their is definitely a few ups and downs but this story was truly amazing.

This was a well written book that had light BDSM, first time with a man, and two men learning to live and love and put there past behind them. Dealing with bullies from both past and present. It really pulls you in and makes you want to continue reading.

This felt underdeveloped to me. I was missing quite a bit of on-page interaction. Also, one bully subplot is enough. More than that feels excessive. Maybe it was necessary to lay the groundwork for future books. This was my first book by this author, and maybe I just don't connect to the writing style.

Siiiigh, hot dads... I’m a sucker for em.

In this one, we have Jake... a single bi widow who is trying to juggle working full time and being a full-time single dad for the last seven years to his now teenagers and realizing that something is missing from his life. Something he doesn’t even notice until a broken down Camry on the side of the road, puts him face to face with a flirty younger man that pushes all of his buttons.

Micah is back in Gaynor Beach for his sister and the son they share. It isn’t as weird as it sounds, he was the donor for her and her wife, and I just adore their relationship. All of them. Normalizing mixed-matched families in all the ways, I loved it. Micah is also the new teacher at Gaynor Beach High, and the broody mechanic that picked him up off the side of the road is a little more than he can handle thinking about, even if everything about him pushes every button he has, especially the one’s he’s kept hidden for a good long time. An openly gay high school teacher with a porny past? That isn’t something you want to get out, especially in a small town like Gaynor Beach.

Now, I’m not usually a fan of BDSM but that part was a surprise to me and one I found myself actually enjoying. Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing, there is a little angst thrown in for good measure, but it was handled realistically and though I wanted to smack Micah around a time or two, with his stubbornness and pride, I fell in love with him about as quickly as Jake did.
I’m also always pleased when the bad guy doesn’t get away with being the bad guy and though I’d have liked to have made him eat his words and get as humiliated as he liked to make others, I’m happy he wasn’t more of a problem than he was.

Overall though, I thought Jake and Micah were very cute together and their relationship, though wasn’t always easy, always felt real and genuine and I enjoyed watching them both let their guards down enough to let someone worthy in. I’m interested in maybe seeing we get to know Ripley a little better and hey, maybe there’s still time to get a little karmic justice on those bullies that have been reining a little too long for my liking. I’m excited to see who’s next!
4 stars from me!

I did not know the author and it is a great discovery.

Here we will have the theme of single fathers with a little novelty: a dominant submissive relationship but it will remain soft. The heroes will go gradually given that one is new to it.

I really liked the universe. The family background is well designed. The characters interact perfectly.

There will be a touch of suspense vis-à-vis one of the heroes who has a sword of Damocles above his head. This will influence his decisions and thus create a rhythm in his romantic relationship.

The sexy scenes are very well described. The only thing I regret is that given Micah's past, we don't end up going very far in these. The author remains relatively soft.

In summary a nice read, it would have deserved a deepening of the kink of the characters.

I liked Jake from the first chapter. Here was a single dad trying hard to move past the difficulty of taking care of his children while being both mom and dad and hard on himself because he is human. I also enjoyed the very human man with needs that we meet right away who is Jake also. Then there's Micah. What a good guy who is trying his best to be there for his kid and to be a good teacher in a small town. Both of these guys navigate the complexities of dealing with teenagers and the evolving relationships between parents and children as teenagers grow up and grow to want their independence. Car trouble provides a first meeting for these two. Jake is a mechanic. But they are so good together as grumpy meets a guy who rocks his world and moves him to embrace a broader sense of who is sexually and what he wants. The high school story of bullying playing out again in adulthood was so nicely done and a good reminder of how the traumas of the past can impact the present. I truly liked Jake and Micah and truly disliked Jake's brother in law Willem. This was a good start to the series and I am looking forward to reading more.

Jake and Micah's road to happiness is not an easy one with things going on in each of their lives but they bring this light and happiness that has been missing for so long. Jake's wife passed away seven years ago and he now lives with his two children, Whitney and Tommy, though sometimes it's a little like ships passing in the night. Micah has moved back to town to be close weigh his son, Jayden, but is having some trouble from a parent of one of his students. All little bits of drama and angst that add up through story bring a good dose of drama and angst to the MC's but both have supportive friends and family to fall back on, though it's not always easy to accept.
I enjoyed the exploration that Jake goes through, right from the start of the story and Micah is his perfect balance in that. They are ideal matches when it comes to their kinks and the heat they share just ignites from that first motorcycle ride. I also liked how Jake progresses in the story as he develops as a dad as well as starting something great for the first time since his wife died. Communication seems to be one of the big learning curves for everyone, MC's and kids alike with some big discussions to be had by all. The kids are entertaining though I didn't find myself that much of a fan of Whitney until closer to the end but then the whole family has been through a lot together. It's also makes for great reading when you see a bully brought down a leg of two!
A recommended read with exploration, hurt/comfort, single dads, small town romance/gossip. I think this is a wonderful start to a new series.

Jake and Micah ❤️
4.5 Stars 🌟

Fantastic start to this new series! These guys, both of their individual stories were amazing...together, it was that much better. I was not expecting the depth and complexity of this story from the blurb...some parts will hurt your heart, some parts will make you angry, some parts will make you giggle and some parts will melt your panties 🔥. I am going to leave this review as vague with details as possible, to spoil would be a disservice, trust me 😉I loved this story, I loved the fact that these two men had so much baggage to unpack it was insane, however I loved just how the author brought it all together in a way that truly touches your heart. There were also so many fantastic supporting characters I'm not sure who's book id like to see next. I for one, can't wait to read the next one in this series it was just that good. I recommend this book 100%

Give me more of this wonderful couple and their friends and families. I was hooked from page one..and how can you not love a book about a grumpy bi dad mechanic just going thru life who has his world turned on end due to a chance meeting with a sunny upbeat teacher (and oh yea one with a past that made me laugh). This is a great first book in a series that I am so excited about and am so ready for book two. It has a great story, great characters, and great supporting characters. I wonder where book two will go but to be honest i could take another book about these two and I would be happy. Both Micah and Jake were written in such a way I wanted to be their friend and be a part of their world. Lovely book. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

Great start to a new series

When I heard about the new Single Dads of Gaynor Beach series, I was intrigued. All these books about single dads? How could each story be unique? Well, if this first one is anything to go off, I think I’m going to settle into these books nicely.

I liked Jake. I do grumpy. I relate to grumpy. That being said, I also liked Micah. His perpetually upbeat attitude, even in the wake of a major problem, soothed me. I also thought the kids in the story were a hoot. Jake alone is raising a son and daughter, while Micah shares parenting with his sister and her wife of their son. A healthy blended family.

I’m also a fan of a bit of angst, which this story gave me. I had to say, I didn’t see a solution to Micah’s predicament, but the author offered up a logical one that didn’t feel forced. I’ll admit I was a little surprised at the kink aspect of the story (I didn’t read the blurb), but it worked. I like when relationships are unpredictable. I especially like happy endings.

The next instalment of the series is out soon and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

This is a story about characters who feel absolutely real, dealing with real, everyday things with jobs, kids, friends, not-friends and a relationship that catches both men by surprise. Watching these two discover so much about themselves they never knew or expected all the while learning about each other and how to be together made for an amazing read.

There is a serious side to this story and it does get resolved quite nicely. the main characters, Jake and Micah, are well written with good depth. I loved how this plot played out, the secondary characters, children and adults, nice people and creeps all played their part to make this book a really good read. I really enjoyed it! “I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.”

He is a single father of teenagers and works a lot of hours. A car breaks down and he goes to the rescue, he is shocked how their arms feel around him. He is using his bike to transport them. Is this the start of a new relationship? Will they get on? An this be a match made in heaven? See what is going to happen

I adored this book. I was cheering for Jake and Micah from the get-go, and I immediately fell in love with the world Descoteaux created for these two. The setting of this book is so vibrant, and it's filled with secondary characters who bring the story to life. Jake and Micah stole my heart, and Descoteaux's writing made me wish I could move to Gaynor Beach and take up residence in this delightful town.

I love Jake and Micah (and their families)! Jake is described as grumpy, and he is, at first. I like seeing how he changes as he and Micah develop their relationship. I love that Micah was a Dom prior to meeting Jake. I also love the support both men get from their kids and families. This book has all the feels for me which makes Jake and Micah's HEA even sweeter. I would love to see another book with these characters (maybe someone for Rip?) if the author is so inclined.

Jake and Micah are two special characters. One’s a widowed father, and the other a Dom. But that’s not all they are. Jake will have to risk a lot to be with Micah. But their journey is so lovely, with family and friends around. I enjoyed their story.

What happens when a single dad that has been living the same days over and over meets the new art teacher and chemistry ignites? Well, you have some kink, some laugh, teenagers, and a little secret. Jake and Micah's story is fun, little bit of angst, and so much more. Looking forward to more.
