The security guard at Ella Mentry School has gone off the deep end! Somebody is stealing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from the vomitorium, and Officer Spence is on the case. He's arresting everybody in sight! Somebody is going to go to jail! Who is it? You'll have to read the book to find out.
The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
I liked the book because Officer Spence was aresting people for no reason that is why the title is Officer Spence Makes No Sense! And he was aresting all the teachers but A.J was happy becuase that means no more school and then Mr. Spence let them go because oh wait I should not say that would be a spoiler alert.
It was a little bit crazy because the security guard thought everyone was stealing sandwiches, but you'll never guess who stole them! I'm not spoiling it. That was the only good part.
There is something weird going around at Ella Mentry School. Somebody has been stealing all of the peanut butter sandwiches. Officer Spence steps in and tries to find the theif. Meanwhile, he arrests everybody in sight! He has a "real" lie detector that and it detects everybody! Somebody has got to stop Officer Spence! Who will it be? Read the book to find out!
I thought this book was weird because Officer Spence arresting everybody in sight. Shouldn't you just arrest the main suspects and go into a deeper investagation? This part in the book made me think about how sometimes my friends and I accuse each other right away instead of thinking about the other people that could be part of it. I enjoyed this book because it was funny. For example, "Ten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches have been stolen this month. There's a crime wave sweeping Ella Mentry School, and I'm going to put a stop to it once and for all." ~Officer Spence. I don't understand why Officer Spence would use lie detectors and jail cells. Isn't that a little overboard? I sort of enjoyed this book because it was funny and intruging, but it was kind of short and didn't go into a lot of detail. I would recommend this book to you if you enjoy fiction and a hint of mystery. This would be a perfect short-read book!
Erm. OK. Officer Spense believes in the everybody is guilty school of law enforcement, as well as the notion that he should immediately deploy any tool (but preferably the most aggressive tool) in his arsenal. Sure, that may be pointing his finger in a gun-like fashion and saying "Freeze Dirtbag!", but the ideology behind it is unsettling. Yes, I know it's just a children's book; but then, where else do we teach children said ideology?
My 7-year-old likes this book because it's silly. I like it because it demonstrates how dictators acquire and consolidate political power by manufacturing emergencies to justify control of public institutions and suspension of civil rights. I was not expecting that.
DescriptionLife at Ella Mentry School is as weird as ever in this companion to the My Weird School series. A.J., Andrea and the gang are graduating to third grade, where the adults are as weird as they always were.
Officer Spence stole the sandwiches and he put the teachers, the principal and the vice-principal in jail for it! So the principal and the vice-principal tunneled out using yogurt spoons.
I read Officer Spence makes no sense. The charachters are A.j, Emily, Andrea, Neil, Ryan, and Michael. It's about the kids at Ella Mentry School has a case for missing peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches, and Officer Spence is on the case. He's arresting everyone he can see even teachers I wan't to know why would he arrest teachers. Officer Spence was messing with A.j on a lie detector he asked "is their anything you like about school" A.j said "no" the detector beep he said "you like something or someone" he said "no i dont" and it beep again so Officer Spence said "you must like that girl Andrea" A.j said "no". Then Officer Spence told everyone to go in the multi-purpose room when he was about to say who stole the sandwhiches to dogs came out their the peanut butter- sniffing- dogs and they ran directly to Officer Spence so that means Officer Spence stole the sandwhiches. Why would he steal them. Will the end i have to go read more books.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!
I love this series it comes up with funny ideas all the time. Anyways the security guard at Ella Mentry school has gone of the deep end! Somebody is stealing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from the vomitorium aka cafeteria, and officer Spence is on the case. He is arresting everybody he sees. That is including the principle and vice. Will they escape find out. Yes they do but in a weird way with a spoon. Anyways I really liked this book and I hope Dan Gutman keeps making creative ideas.
My youngest keeps checking these books out. They are fun on the tongue and full of laughs and hilarity. Good to read aloud, but I think most kids who catch the bug will read them on their own.
There are 3 series at least of several books each including My Weird School, My Weirder School, and My Weird School Daze.

My 6 and 7-year-olds love this book series. They're a fun read for adults and at the appropriate reading level for the girls to read on their own (with a little occasional struggle!). Great introduction to grammatical functions such as asterisks and hyphenation, and a comical narrator voice. Love these!
It was crazy the officer just kept arresting the teachers because he thought it was them but at the end it was him because Mr. Brad found out that officer spenses mom didn't let him peanut butter like the other kids. I loved the book i think this would be good for everybody

It was really funny and crazy. My favorite part as when Officer Spence said, "Freeze Dirtbag!" It was so funny I kept on repeating "FREEZE DIRTBAG!" It was hilarious! (8 year old, 3rd grader)
