Samantha Reynolds' life in Aloha Lagoon has just become perfect. Her boyfriend Casey has asked her to marry him, and with Casey’s family in town for a few weeks, it's the perfect opportunity to throw a surprise wedding! The only problem is that on such short notice their wedding planner can only do so much. Especially when their resort is already overbooked with a reality TV personality and his entourage. While Sam has her doubts about pulling this off when she meets the combative last-minute caterer her planner hired, she swaps her flip flops for stilettos and makes her way down the aisle anyway.
Only before she can say "I Do," the caterer is found dead—face down in their wedding cake!
Suddenly things go from marriage to murder, and Sam is at the center of it all. With the police looking at her wedding planner as the number one suspect, Casey’s mother shouting about bad omens and doing her best to convince Casey to go home to England, Sam knows that if she’s going to tie the knot with the man of her dreams, she must find the real killer and prove them all wrong.
But can she find a murderer, convince Casey that his mother is wrong, and plan a whole new wedding before the truth catches up with them all? Or will Sam be the next victim? This may not be the happily ever after she was expecting...

I loved being back in Aloha Lagoon with Sam and the rest of the awesome characters that live here, there is a beautiful start to this one as Casey asks Sam to marry him and I was so looking forward to what should have been the perfect surprise wedding but things don’t always go to plan for Sam and just as they are about to start the wedding the caterer is found dead, in their wedding cake.
Sam and Casey were so thrilled to have Casey’s family over from England and planning the surprise wedding wasn’t easy at all, with a TV celebrity there and the resort so over booked, but their wedding planner and friend Whitney had worked wonders with the planning that is until everything went pear shaped and now instead of enjoying her honeymoon Sam is investigating another murder against Casey’s wishes, because her friend, Whitney is the main suspect.
Sam has a heart of gold and is always eager to help her friends and the people she loves but somehow she gets herself in some very dangerous predicaments but never gives up not only is she uncovering secrets, that are taking her in different directions she is also having problems with Casey’s mother who does not think the wedding should go ahead, one thing that Sam is sure of is that she loves Casey and he loves her and their wedding should go ahead but when, is a difficult question with everything that is going on.
Another awesome story in this series, the author had me guessing till the very end with again, I never seem to pick the culprit, the setting is the best who doesn’t want to be in Hawaii and truly the characters who live there are so lovely and what can I say Sam is just the best she makes me laugh at the scrapes she gets into and she has me worrying about her as well with the danger she puts herself in. This is a story that I would highly recommend, I have yet to read all of the books in this series but I do plan to. I really loved this one.
My thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review
The Aloha Lagoon series is such a fun series with the tropical setting and great, likable characters. We are finally about to see Samantha and Casey's wedding take place...a surprise to both of their families. Or are we? Supposed to be an engagement type event at the resort with an added surprise wedding until the body of the caterer body appears. So, the wedding is put on hold. Casey's family is visiting from England, so he really wants the wedding to take place while they are there. Only thing is his mom isn't too sure that she wants Sam to marry her boy, so this is one tense time for Sam between investigating the murder and everything else. She and her BFF, Alani, gave me some nail-biting moments with their sleuthing. This is another great adventure in Aloha Lagoon. The mystery was great with a surprise twist reveal that I did not see coming. I received a complimentary ARC from the Gemma Haliday Publishing in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
Samantha Reynolds is loving her life in Kauai, especially since her romance with blue-eyed Brit Casey Dalton has bloomed to the “...will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” stage. Casey’s family is arriving from England for a holiday, so Casey and Sam devise a surprise for family and friends. Three weeks later…the guests have no idea this family gathering is not an engagement party, but a surprise wedding ceremony. Good friend Whitney, the wedding planner, managed a lovely, albeit last-minute, event, and she promises the kerfuffle from the caterer, Vivienne Turner, will not effect the nuptials. The resort is fully booked including an event for Kennedy King, popular reality TV show star, and his entourage, and King’s caterer is furious with Vivienne over a stolen job and along with a double booked kitchen, emotions are intense. The ceremony, however, goes on, Sam’s brother escorts her into the room, and family and friends gasp with delight as they realize the real purpose for the party. But, the excitement immediately turns chaotic as Whitney bursts into the room. The wedding is halted, the guests are confused, and the caterer is dead!
It’s freezing here, but I’m toasty reading Beth Prentice’s Tidal Wave, her fourth book in the Gemma Halliday Publishing multi-author Aloha Lagoon Mystery series. All of the authors involved, including Beth, incorporate a core set of characters, along with their own, from resort staff to the lead investigator Detective Ray Kahoalani creating a deliciously entertaining world. The murder entangles many in the event planning and catering community since the victim was very manipulative and made many attempts to sabotage the careers of her competition, but it gets more complex with a reality star and a senator at the resort. However, the murder is only one complication to Sam and Casey’s nuptials since his mother does not like surprises, especially surprise weddings she fears would have him remaining in the States. She wants Casey to return to his life in England adding claims the murder is a bad omen and the wedding should be cancelled. Of course, with Whitney at the top of the suspect list, Sam’s bent on helping her friend and proving this tragedy had nothing to do with the wedding. Fun. Clever details. Perilous moments. Surprise arrest. Beth has an entertaining writing style to engage the reader filled with marvelous descriptions of the resort and the people, and banter that illustrates personalities and tone. The informal methods used to uncover the killer are realistic along with the dynamic between Sam, her friends, and the detective. Loved it!
Disclosure: I received an ARC from Gemma Halliday Publishing. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.
Tidal Wave will have you deciding to elope! There is the blatant disapproval from the groom's mother, an overbooked venue, a reality TV star and his entourage, and the caterer face down in the wedding cake! Ms. Prentice has again written a delightfully twisted tale for the reader's enjoyment. There are so many suspects, possible alibis and more, I was almost tempted to make my own murder board! I know better than to start reading an Aloha Lagoon mystery at night. It was about 5 am when I finished but well worth the lost sleep!
The most romantic day in Aloha Lagoon saw Casey Dalton asking Samantha "Sam" Reynolds to marry him. And, with his extended family arriving from England for a luxurious holiday, it seems the perfect time to stage a surprise wedding. Surprises, though, have their problems; the main one, in this case, is the discovery of the murder of the caterer, who is found dead right before the vows are made.
This is the second time I've read a book in this series. I settled into some delightful murdery angst. The characters are the set, and the scenery is fabulous. I enjoyed the characters of Sam and Casey, who had a fantastic dynamic. The tension between them felt real as they explored the newness of this phase of their relationship, as well as their differing feelings about how involved Sam should be in the investigation of the murder.
Aloha Lagoon is a wonderful setting for the series, and the books are unique, as different authors create distinct characters and scenarios to populate the stories. This particular story captured my imagination and held me spellbound to its end.
Sam and Casey's plan to surprise everyone with their wedding didn't exactly go how they would have liked, with the caterer murdered and ending up in the wedding cake! No one to leave a mystery alone, especially one so personal to her, Sam begins her own investigation of the murder.
I enjoyed this trip back to Aloha Lagoon. This was a light, easy read, and I couldn't quite figure out what was really going on, which made it fun for me!
The Aloha Lagoon Mystery series is one of my favorite series to get lost in. The series is written by multiple authors with each book written by one author and the story is about a cast of characters and the thing that links all of the books is that they all take place on the Kauai coast of Hawaii and center around the Aloha Lagoon Resort.
In the seventeenth book Tidal Wave by Beth Prentice main character Sam Reynolds, who is a surf instructor for the resort is about to marry her bartender boyfriend Casey. They have planned a surprise wedding, their families think that they are there to celebrate their engagement but the two lovebirds have other plans. Seeing as Casey's entire family is visiting from Austrialia, they have decided to get married while everyone is there. Unfortunately right before they are about to begin the caterer is found dead on their wedding cake and their wedding planner who Sam is friends with, is arrested for the murder.
Even though Sam had promised Casey that she would not look into any more murders, she is kinda known for getting in the middle, she knows that she has to look into this case....mainly because Casey's mother does not think they should get married and sees this as an omen to that.
Sadly as Sam and her best friend Alani begin their investigate they realize that the list of suspects is long and when they find some evidence that they believe is proof of blackmail, the list gets more complicated.
Readers will love getting lost in the Aloha Lagoon Mystery series and reading about all the different characters, their lives and how they get in the middle of murder investigations. Tidal Wave is the fourth book in this series written by Beth Prentice and by now you will be in love with Sam, Casey and the rest of their friends and families. You will love how the books have some overlapping qualities and reading about such a lovely place, even with murders, you cannot help but fall in love !!! I highly recommend this series ....you will love the resort !!!
I love this series!! The books are easy reads and hard to put down. Sam is such a caring young woman. Her background and life are complicated, but her main goal is to be happy and to make those around her happy. This story has many storylines, but they all blend together to conclude with a lovely ending! Can’t wait for the next one!
Samantha and Casey have planned a wedding when Casey's family is visiting from the UK. Thinking it was an engagement party, the family was friendly but reserved. With the sudden development of a wedding starting to take place, Casey's mother was not on board, and with an unexpected murder of the caterer, all plans were changed. Sam proceeded to investigate and work on solving a murder that is overlaid with deceit and confusion...not to mention physical assault.
An intricate plot with multiple duplicitous characters makes this one of the most complex murders in the Aloha Lagoon series. I loved Sam's tenacious search for the truth and her steadfast love and loyalty to Casey. Her respect for his family was amazing, especially at a time that it seemed they were against Sam 100%. Wonderful characters with family morals and values, a plot that is difficult to unravel, and a setting in paradise combine to make this an exceptional book.
The fourth book in the Samantha Reynolds Mysteries was another enjoyable read where Sam once again takes it upon herself to hunt down the true killer. Sam's wedding is thrown into chaos when her caterer is found murdered face down in her beautiful wedding cake. Considering this is Sam, it's not surprising that things don't go smoothly for her and that she then steps on toes trying to uncover the true murderer.
Casey has his family over from the UK and the wedding was supposed to be a surprise. I have to say I didn't like Casey's mum, from the information we get from Sam she is dead against Casey marrying her and just wants him to give up his life on Aloha Lagoon and return to the UK with them when they go home. Casey disappointed me a bit in this book, I think it would have been better if we'd got to see him behind the scenes and not relied on Sam's take on what was going on, but since we only get Sam's perspective I found him lacking in understanding about how his family, especially his mum was making Sam feel.
Casey isn't happy about Sam investigating, and who can blame him after how things nearly turned out last time. Really he should have known Sam wouldn't be able to help herself, in this instance I'd have liked Sam to be a bit more upfront with him, knowing how he'd feel, rather than sneaking around behind his back.
Sam's BFF Alani always has her back despite her misgivings and I enjoyed her role in Sam's investigations. She is definitely someone you can always count on.
There were plenty of twists and I was kept guessing right to the end who the real murderer was and why they did it. Sam and Alani had plenty of suppositions as they sneak around, questioning their suspects and upsetting the bad guys once again.
I look forward to seeing what Sam gets up to next time because surely she won't be able to keep her promise to Casey and stay out of trouble for too long.
This was such a fun read, how can it be boring when it's set on Kauai? This book is part of a series written by different authors, so they do just fine as standalones, but I have to say I'm a bit partial to Beth...all of her books are fun and well written, and this one is no exception. Set in a beach resort on Kauai, a wedding is disrupted with a murder. The players in this story are pretty high profile and the suspect list gets longer and longer as Sam just can't mind her own business without finding out who and why. A spreadsheet with initials, blackmail abound, and two amateur sleuths that are a real pain to the police detective investigating the murder. So pick up this enjoyable episode in the Aloha Lagoon Series, grab your favorite cool drink, find your reading corner and get ready for twisty, turny keep you guessing whodunit with a total surprise ending when the killer is revealed!
This was the perfect sequel to the previous books in this series. In this one, Sam and Casey’s surprise wedding is interrupted by the murder of the caterer. Add to that, Casey’s entire family being there from the UK including his mother who doesn’t like Sam or the surprise. Unfortunately, Sam’s wedding planner is the top suspect and Sam takes it upon herself to find the real killer. Casey is definitely not happy with her breaking her promise not to investigate. But she feels impelled to help her friend. Even when it may mean her own life.
The characters are fun and the setting beautiful. I want to be there on Casey’s Rock, watching the ocean and soaking up the scenery.
Sam is in a very happy place. Her boyfriend Casey has just proposed! As his family is traveling to Aloha Lagoon to meet her, they decide that this will be a perfect time for a surprise wedding. As time is of the essence, she has a wedding planner to help her plan this quickly. The wedding planner hires a caterer that Sam isn’t happy with, but Sam decides to go along with it anyway. Her future mother-in-law isn’t thrilled with get everything her so’s choice of a wife and before the wedding goes on, the caterer is found dead, face first in the cake! Sam is determined to get everything resolved so she can marry the man of her dreams before his family goes back to England.
Tidal Wave- written by Beth Prentice is a light fiction story which would interest young women and their mothers. Beth writes in an easy to read conversational manner, which flowed well. I found her descriptive content engaging as she showed rather than told using first person unravelling the story of love, impending marriage, heartbreak, suspicion, family expectations, and murder. Why was the cake maker murdered? Things change for Samantha as the plot unravels. A good read. I give it a four star rating.
Weddings can be stressful, especially when the wedding is a surprise and not the engagement party the families expected, add to that someone murdering your very difficult caterer and that brings on a whole new level of stress especially when the prime suspect is your wedding planner. All Sam and Casy wanted to do was get married in front of all their relatives. This mystery has more twists, turns and surprises than anything I've ever read and when Sam and friends start unraveling the whole thing and the killer is revealed it just takes your breath away.
Samantha is finally getting married, but meeting the groom's whole family on the wedding day turns into something unexpected, a murder mystery.I loved this book, its filled with murder, mayhem, laughter, family drama, love and of course the easy-to-read banter you have come to expect from this series. a fast paced story with quite a few unexpected twists. Highly recommend
I received an ARC in return for an honest review. The Aloha Lagoon series is so much fun to read. Each book is by one or more different authors. Their writing styles may differ, but the stories are great to read and very hard to put down. I find myself so caught up in the mysteries and characters plus it's set in Hawaii. You do not have to read them in order, but it is even more fun if you do.
A absolute pleasure to read. A wonderful storyline filled with comedy, murder, suspense drama and ofcourse filled with love. Sam is getting married and finally meeting his family on the wedding day isn't ideal. A paced paced enjoyable story written beautifully. Highly recommend reading.
It begins with a proposal, family reunion, a wedding & murder. Lots going on in this one. Sam needs to figure it all out before it’s too late. Fantastic story, beautiful ending. Look forward to more.
