Five full-length steampunk fantasy novels in one boxset. Come dive into five richly imagined worlds full of fascinating characters and rollicking adventure.
The Bloodless Assassin by Celine Jeanjean The tropical city of Damsport clings to its independence from the vast and powerful neighbouring empire by only a few tenuous alliances. As a dreadlocked pickpocket and thief, Rory is mostly oblivious to the political stage, currently too busy blackmailing an assassin into training her to sword fight. That is, until the assassin is targeted by a plot to bring down Damsport, and Rory finds herself in the crosshairs along with him. It’ll take every bit of cunning she possesses if she’s to not only stop the plot but survive it.
The Emperor's Edge by Lindsay Buroker An enforcer wanted dead for crimes she didn’t commit. An assassin wanted dead for crimes he did commit. Normally, they would be enemies, but they both seek the same thing: exoneration.
Free-Wrench by Joseph R Lallo Beyond the islands of Caldera the world is a vicious place. A terrible calamity has poisoned the land. Those too ruthless or stubborn to die have crafted steam-powered mechanical wonders and taken to the sky. Yet somewhere in that wretched land there is a cure for a dire disease. With the eccentric crew of an airship called The Wind Breaker, Nita Graus means to find that cure, whatever the price.
Third Daughter by Susan Kaye Quinn Being Third Daughter of the Queen means Aniri is free to love her fencing instructor--until a marriage proposal from a barbarian prince forces her to choose between preventing a war and breaking her heart.
Dragon Airways by Brian Rathbone Dragons harbor mysteries and secrets revealed only to those most worthy. When a boy who can sense ancient magic becomes valuable to both sides of the war, enemies close in. Fleeing those sent to capture him, Emmet and his sister Riette board Dragon Airways. Not knowing friend from foe, they must rely on even those who might betray them. In a thrilling journey spanning land and sea, brother and sister come to know the true measure of Emmet's abilities along with the real value of love, friendship, and sacrifice.
Celine Jeanjean is French, grew up in the UK and now she travels the world as a nomadic writer. That makes her a tad confused about where she is from. During her travels she's watched the sun rise over Angkor Wat, lost her shoes in Vietnam, and fallen off a bamboo raft in China.
Celine writes stories that feature quirky characters and misfits, set in wondrous worlds.
Five series starter novels. If you enjoy only one the collection is still worth buying. Tastes differ but I particularly enjoyed 3: a street urchin teams up with an assassin who faints at the sight of blood; an emperor's guard who saves the day by going rogue with an even more deadly assassin who definitely does not faint at the sight of blood; and finally the only engineer in a family of artists and musicians who makes good as a pirate on a decrepit airship with a remarkably eccentric crew, including one non-human. Something steampunk for everyone here. I will be going on to follow up the three series. And I hope others will do so as well.
All in one book, these five Steampunk fantasy adventures cover a wide range of such novels, each totally different and yet full of steampunk ingenuity, terrific characters and settings and adventure galore. Even better, each novel introduces you, the fortunate reader, to an entirely new and engaging series. I had a wonderful time reading each one and have already gotten the next books in several of the series. This one is not to be missed, if you like steampunk, fantasy and adventure, or any one or combination of these.
What wonderfully fun collection! I had no clue what steam punk is, and if you don't know, I don't want to spoil it. This collection brings the belly laughs and tears and wonder of imagination in every story. I especially like how each novel sees an ordinary person evolve into a hero that faces insurmountable conflicts and challenges, and with a bit of help from friends and strangers and ingenuity overcome.
Lallo is The only author who actually covered steam mechanics. The rest of them only glossed over it and never talked about the actual steam Mechanics involved. I don't enjoy the stories where it's only some of the background. If you can't write about it I guess you really don't know it do you.?
A fine collection of steampunk novels. I was first introduced when I read "The King's Edge" (which is included here). I was hooked. And, now, I have been introduced to more authors of the genre. I am ecstatic. Happy reading.
Four new Authors - I am downloading their book lists as we speak. Great Stories! Five Full Length novels - each one in a series. Lots more reading to come. Lindsay Buroker (the reason I found this book) Celine Jeanjean Joseph Lallo Susan Kaye Quinn Brian Rathbone
Nothing in this collection lived up to my expectations of steampunk. Although all the stories were quite different, they similarly did not inspire any desire to seek the sequels. Unfortunate …
Some really good finds! I especially fell in love with Celine Jeanjean's books. Highly recommend all of her books. Some of the stories in this collection need a bit of work, though.
