Sparks fly when LA glitz meets New Orleans grit...
When Anneke flits into town between high fashion shoots to help her best friend open his new jazz club, the last thing she's looking for is a reason to stay. She'll explore the city, make her appearances, and then she's off to the next adventure. Until she realizes that her massive online crush is the proprietor of a dusty old record shop in town...
At twenty-nine, Jonah has already been there, done that, and he's over it. Fame and fortune? Ha. Keep it. He's had a front row seat his whole life to the way it changes people. Not even the flirty supermodel he keeps crossing paths with can change his mind...
Until Jonah discovers that Anneke is the woman he's been half in love with for months already. But...she's everything he's never wanted. Isn't she?
This laugh out loud romantic comedy sizzles with chemistry and the magic of a Mardi Gras backdrop to this adorable opposites attract story from USA Today bestseller Melanie Jacobson!
This was so fun to write. In SO NOT MY THING, I really dug into the music scene. I thought about what I wanted to showcase in this New Orleans book, and I decided it had to be Mardi Gras. I take it for granted because I grew up with it, but I forget how interesting our Mardi Gras traditions are to people who aren't from Louisiana. I hope it pulls back the curtain a little on traditions in a fun way.
[MARDI GRAS NOTE: Fat Tuesday was originally simply the day Catholics used up the food they wouldn't be eating during Lent, so that it wouldn't have to be thrown out & wasted. So it's easy to see how it kind of naturally became a sort of feast day before fasting. The celebration of sin & excess in some locales is very much a secular addition.]
[KING CAKE NOTE: King cake is ring shaped like a crown to symbolize a King - & the circle represents eternity/God. The baby represents Jesus Who is God & King of kings - THE King represented by the King cake.]
There's much to enjoy about this book - the author is great at writing snappy, fun dialogue - & I would have loved it but for a couple of things that irritated me right out of the story several times.
EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK: "Don’t tell me ‘I’m not like the other girls.’ That’s a step down the road toward misogyny
“I misspoke. I meant to say that you’re a different kind of person, Anneke. No better or worse than other girls. Just a unique human experience I haven’t had before.”
What the heck? It's misogynistic to tell a woman that she's different from other women? He's telling her she's special - what kind of love says you're "no better or worse than other girls"? (Wait, he called her & the rest of womankind "girls"! Obviously he hates women & looks down on them! Except that was the author's slip, so apparently she's on 'the road to misogyny' herself 🙄)
Like so many others, I read to escape all of life's nonsense, of which the PC garbage is very much a part, so it really irks me when my entertainment shoves it in my face.
Also, Jonah had potential, but as other reviewers have noted, is a somewhat disappointing hero. He didn't have to be an alpha, but he should at least be a beta - not something more reminiscent of Pajama Guy.
Similar to book one, this brought the setting of New Orleans to life. This one had a focus on Mardi Gras, which was super fun and informative. And continuing the theme of music, I loved seeing the business side of an indie record store, owned by the hero Jonah.
With an already established online relationship through Noteworthy, a social media app for music nerds, the playful messages between Jonah and supermodel Anneke were so sweet. When fate brings these two within the same city, Anneke is not the woman Jonah expected behind the AnnieBird username, making a great conflict of discovering if their connection is more than a love of music.
Their first kiss was electric! I truly loved the tension built between them. I appreciate how straightforward Anneke was, always encouraging Jonah to open himself up. But Jonah was very hot and cold, basing a lot of their relationship on wrong assumptions, which I found frustrating. The grand gesture was absolutely perfect, though! I'm looking forward to more in this series.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for review
This was so different! I loved the feel of the book. I like a book that gets me inside the characters heads and this one did that for me. Jacobson is an author I have either loved or just not lately and it's been weird. Her books have this quicky vibe I have really liked lately. This one was complicated! Lots of things to get worked out between these two and I just loved how it made me want them to figure it out and just be together! Sweet and fun with no sex or religion.
Thank you to the author, Melanie Jacobson, for a free, early copy of Here For It in exchange for an honest review.
Melanie has a wonderful writing style. It’s very readable and I got hooked on her books from the very first sentence of Kiss the Girl. Even though I didn’t rate this one as highly as her other books, I still think you should give this one a shot. If you like clean, opposites-attract romances, New Orleans settings, and all things music, this is the book for you!
I was impressed with the chemistry Melanie created between Anneke and Jonah when they were only two strangers chatting online. I wish they had a little more of that chemistry in person, though. They did eventually find an in-person connection but it took a while for Jonah to open up and give Anneke the emotional intimacy that she deserved.
This is a slow burn, kissing-only romance (and Melanie writes the best kissing-only scenes!) with a sweet grand gesture at the end. Anneke has a special place in my heart and I’m hoping I’ll see appearances of her in Melanie’s future books.
Melanie Jacobson’s books are auto read books for me. I know I am always going to love them and they are going to make me laugh. After reading So Not My Thing last year, I could not wait for this one. And it was everything I hoped it would be and more.
I loved getting to know Anneke in this one. I wasn’t sure what I thought of her in So Not My Thing. But she was amazing! I loved her vibe. She’s this supermodel, but in real life she’s so down to earth and world’s coolest girl. It was fun to see her fall for Jonah online, but meeting him in person, didn’t go as well.
Jonah…he’s a great guy. I really loved his growth in this book. At the beginning he’s closed off and not his real self. Anneke gets him to open up and embrace who he left behind when he got hurt. And that was beautiful.
I LOVED New Orleans in this one. It was almost like I was there. And the way Mardi Gras was explained was super helpful. I’ve never known much about it. But now…well, I need to experience it at some point. And I really need some King Cake. Anyone know how to make one for those of us who aren’t in New Orleans?
I loved the way this book ended. It was perfect! Now I can’t wait for more!
I was sent an e-copy of Here for It as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
3⭐️ Es entretenido,se lee rápido, pero sigo sin entender mucho la relación de annika y Jonah fue rara, los vi más como dos amigos intercambiando mensajes e incluso les iba mejor y tenían más conversaciones divertidas por chat... Creo 🤔
I was lucky enough to be a part of Melanie Jacobson’s review team for her new book Here for It. Swipe for a synopsis!
Rating: 4.75 ⭐️
My Three things: 1. I loved the setting. Mardi Grad, New Orleans. All the music. I felt like I was there. I also learned a ton! I’m a little jealous Melanie is enjoying her hard earned King Cake without me- todays chocolate croissant from Starbucks doesn’t compare. 😂🥴 2. I really loved Anneke, and I came to love Jonah. The progression of their relationship is what kept me from putting this one down. The grand gesture was *chefs kiss* 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽 Jonah was an emotional roller coaster. 3. Does Bailey get a book? Big Al? I want sequels for both. I feel like Al should at least get a Novella! A prequel? I need more of Big Al 🤷🏼♀️
I really enjoyed this one! I felt like it was a fun, light, quick read. Y’all I have no free time. I have a baby, a toddler, and I teach full time with a husband who works second shift. I read this in a day 😂 I spent my nonexistent free time engrossed in New Orleans Musicy goodness. It’s been awhile since I have read a book where I was really unsure where the romantic plot line was going to end up- it was a roller coaster and kept me guessing. I loved that the main characters chatted online before meeting- that’s so relevant now, and I feel like I’m still not reading that in all that many books. Closed door romance- so clean. No peppers for my spicy friends but it’s still so good 🙌🏼❤️
I absolutely would recommend this one and can’t wait to pick up more of Melanie’s books!
This is a great book and the next in the series will be added to my tbr. This book nailed the will they won't they in a way that I honestly thought they might not work out. It was funny at times and kept me invested in the couples journey. A great book.
Ever read a book that completely transports you to a location? This one takes place in New Orleans and it captured the city and people so well. I love reading about characters that have passions and this one drew me into the world of music and the New Orleans scene in such a fun way.
Anneka and Jonah met online in a music forum. They hit it off and end up spending a lot of time talking. When Anneka and Jonah end up meeting in the same town, Jonah’s dislike for celebrities makes him question Anneka’s authenticity. Anneka doesn’t like to play games in relationships and isn’t sure what to make of Jonah’s hot and cold reception of her.
I loved the conversations they had about authenticity and showing your whole self to someone in a relationship. I loved the beautiful city and all I got to learn about Mardi Gras. The strong music culture was fun to read about and it really made me feel like I was there.
This book had so many great elements including: overcoming insecurities, grand gestures, sacrificing for the sake of the relationship, great side characters, and amazing chemistry. While this is the second book in the series, it is also a stand alone novel that could be enjoyed on it’s own. I really hope there’s a book 3, because there are a few other side characters I’d love to get to know.
This book was a rollercoaster for me. Sometimes I adored it, other times, not so much. It took me about 3/4 to consistently like Anneke but by the end, big fan. I liked learning more about New Orleans and Mardi Gras and music. The secondary characters are really what I loved though: Bailey, Miles, Ellie. 👌
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only) Trigger Warning: loss of a parent
Supermodel Anneke and record store owner Jonah have been connecting for months on the music app Noteworthy. When Anneke is in town to visit her friend, Miles, she decides to meet Jonah in person to see if their online connection is as strong in person. But can the two of them overcome their past relationship trauma and reveal their true selves? Or will miscommunication keep them from finding love?
I am a big fan of the first book in this series, So Not My Thing, which tells the story of Miles and Ellie falling in love. So when I heard that Here For It would bring me back to New Orleans to see Miles's friend Anneke find her own happily ever after, I was very excited. The best parts of this book were the ones in which Anneke, Miles, and Ellie were together and enjoying their easy, fun friendship. I really liked how well Anneke and Ellie got along and supported one another. Unfortunately, Anneke's relationship with Jonah didn't work as well for me. There was so much miscommunication between the two of them, and when one was hot the other was cold. It really felt like they weren't ready for a serious relationship, let alone with each other. Luckily the chemistry improved near the end of the book, but I wish it had happened sooner. I'm hoping we'll get one more trip back to New Orleans to see more of the friendships from this book and another musical romance in NOLA.
half of this book felt like it was copy and pasted off the wiki page for New Orelans/Mardi Gras and the other half was anneke stringing along a guy forcing his hand and then being the one to pull back and then keep blaming him and never having any faults. quite frustrating to finish but i have a rule against DNF. the first book about ellie and miles was annoying/frustrating but not this bad.
Supermodel Anneke Jansen and New Orleans record store owner Jonah Collier have been sharing their love of music online for the past few months. They only know each other by their screen names, but that hasn't stopped Anneke from developing a massive crush. When she accidentally discovers Jonah's offline identity, she decides to engineer an anonymous in-person meeting by asking her friend Miles to invite Jonah to the grand opening of his new jazz club, the Turnaround. Jonah accepts, but the meeting doesn't go well; he brushes off Anneke's efforts to start a conversation with him, so she concludes that he's not attracted to her in real life. She can't quite let go of her crush, however, so when he invites her to stop by his record store, she does. Their second meeting isn't much better than the first, but Jonah's sister Bailey convinces him to go after Anneke and ask for another chance. As they get to know more about each other outside of their tastes in music, their attraction continues to grow, but so does the awareness that they're living two very different lives. Could a relationship between them ever work out?
Jonah and Anneke may have been opposites in a lot of ways, but I loved them together because of the way their personalities complemented each other. The push-pull as their relationship grew helped each of them become the truest, most honest versions of themselves. I also loved how the New Orleans setting was integrated so seamlessly into the story. I think I learned more about the history of Mardi Gras from reading this book than I did when I actually visited New Orleans, and it was honestly fascinating. (It also made me hungry for king cake, but I digress.)
I highly recommend "Here for It" for all sweet contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I look forward to future books in this series. I'd love to read a story featuring Jonah's sister Bailey as well as one for Chloe and Dylan from the previous book. (I'm still convinced that there's something between them!)

Supermodel Anneke has been chatting anonymously about music with someone online for a few months. She has really been loving the conversations, and ends up figuring out that she’s been talking to Jonah, a record store owner in New Orleans. Anneke will be in the city for the grand opening of her friend Miles’ club, and she gets him to send Jonah some tickets. She’s very nervous and excited to meet him, but he is clearly not impressed with her.
I was so excited to revisit New Orleans in Melanie’s newest book! I loved the last one, So Not My Thing, and this one did not disappoint either! I’ve been to Louisiana once, but I was no where near New Orleans, and this book (and the previous one!) makes me want to change that. Anyway, I loved Anneke and Jonah’s story. I loved how clueless Jonah could be at times, and how his sister had to set him straight several times. And I swear, Melanie is the queen of the “will they or won’t they” romance, if you know what I mean. I love that I kind of know the characters will end up together (because the genre), but at the same time, I’m kept guessing a bit on when and how and occasionally if it will happen. Those are always my favorite books! And I loved seeing Miles and Ellie again. This book also made me want to visit record stores, even though I’m not really into music, especially not on the level that Anneke and Jonah are.
Supermodel Anneka Jansen, who lives in California, has been chatting online with independent record store owner Jonah Collier, who lives in New Orleans. They discuss music and much more, but not as Anneka and Jonah; online in Noteworthy (think Facebook for hardcore music nerds) they're Anniebird and LedgeCase. Anneka discovers who LedgeCase is, so when she goes to New Orleans to help her friend Miles with the opening of his nightclub, the Turnaround, she makes sure Jonah is invited. But when Anneka tries talking to him that night things do not go as she thought or hoped they would.
I loved that this story took place during Mardi Gras because it's Mardi Gras season right now! I LOVED Anneka! She was the same in person as online, and being a supermodel was simply her job, not who she was. I loved Anneka's friendship with Ellie and Miles, and how quickly she took to being in NOLA, and that she carried around a camera to photograph the cities she visited.
Jonah, Jonah, Jonah! He's a good guy but he seriously drove me crazy!! I wanted to Gibbs slap him upside the head and ask him "Dude! How many times can you make the same mistake with her?" Thankfully, Jonah finally learns to use his words (so to speak), thanks in part to Miles and is able to say the things to Anneka he'd been having trouble expressing. I really liked that Jonah finally got back into the studio to do what he loved to do and I think that will make him a happier person.
Jonah's sister, Bailey, was my favorite secondary character and hope to see more of her. Each book can be read by itself but I think you'll appreciate the characters of Miles and Ellie more if you read So Not My Thing. I received a complimentary copy for review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
I ADORE Anneke so so so much. She brilliant and wonderful and I've loved every second of her journey through this book. I love how real she was and how much if her heart she put on the line. I love hers and Miles relationship and her bond with Ellie. AND SHE HAD THE SAME THOUGHT ON CHLOE AND DYLAN AS I HAD!!! Pretty smart woman 😂
Oh bless the man that is Jonah who for the life if him NEEDS TO STOP PRESUMING!! But bless him and his broken heart and the beliefs he stands for and upholds, he is in his own just as brilliant as Anneke and I LOVED getting his side too and seeing inside his head. I love him and Bailey and seeing him open his heart and self up. Sometimes I wanted to shake him and sometimes I just wanted to walk into that record shop to glare at him and leave and then send him a cookie.
There story was beautiful in so many ways. I wish we got a little more from the end but I also like how it ended because it's one of those ending where you can carry the story on yourself and build their world in your head a d their interactions, so the story never ends as long as you think about it
Un libro de romance sin las altas cantidades de +18 que las escritoras se están acostumbrando a escribir cada dos páginas. Personajes bien construidos y una evolución de los mismos que verdaderamente se agradece. Definitivamente espero con ansias leer el que sigue.
Let me just say—I really liked a lot of things about this book:
-The setting (Nola) -The scenes with friends and family -The writing
But I really wasn’t into the romance, like at all. It definitely got better and I’m glad I finished this (the ending was pretty cute!!), but I just didn’t like it as much as I thought.
The main characters on their own were fine (again, loved their interactions with their friends and family). It was just constant miscommunication/assumptions and like Jonah constantly saying he’s an idiot, even though he didn’t do anything.
And Anneke complained about Jonah not opening up & basically gave him an ultimatum but they literally just met/became a *thing.* It’s normal not to open up that early.
Also, Jonah annoyed me with his “people can’t change or I won’t like them anymore” mentality/he was like super down on himself.
This book was just not for me. I like this author, and her books are cute usually, but this one was just not for me! That’s ok. No sparks were flying at all for me in this story.
I had a really good time reading this book. It was an excellent diversion with a fantastic happily ever after ending. I learned a bit about New Orleans and the history and culture there which was fun. We also get to see characters from the previous book and that really helped give this story a feeling of home and family. So good!
Okay, I've never wanted to go to New Orleans, but after reading the first two books in the series...I really want to go!
While the first book was good, this book was even better. I think it's because in the first book we didn't get the male MC, Miles's, POV. In this book, the chapters alternate between the two main characters, Jonah and Anneke. Their banter and chemistry felt natural, although I do wish they would have more time together instead of so much being through messaging or texting.
As with the first book, the author's attention to detail and knowledge of New Orleans ' life was astounding. It really brought the city, music, and flavors to life and made you feel as if you were there.
It was cute, funny, and mostly clean. There are a few "mild" curse words, but nothing over-the-top, and as with the first book, no sex.
Also, I'm really hoping there is a third book and it's Chloe and Dylan's story. Because even for the one brief scene that they were in this book...I was totally shipping them and wanted MORE!
**I received a free ARC from the author/publisher for my honest opinion.
"Because she'd rocked my world. Shaken me to my core. Upended everything. And all with a kiss. A kiss. A kiss that wrote her name on my molecules."
Here For It follows on directly from So Not My Thing, so I definitely recommend reading that book first. This time we're focused on Miles' best friend, supermodel Anneke, who just so happens to have connected to a local record shop owner, Jonah online. The pair had been chatting for months before meeting in person. Here For It follows their tumultuous relationship, as they both make big changes.
First, I really liked Anneke. She was down-to-earth, charismatic, ambitious and loyal. Her friendship with Miles was so heartwarming, as was her budding friendship with Elle. I loved her big dreams for the future (which you all need to read the bonus epilogue to see if they come true 😉).
At the end of the day though, I wasn't sold on her relationship with Jonah. While it had its moments (a spellbinding kiss and grand gesture included), there weren't any swoon-worthy moments that swept me off my feet. I felt like she was such a great character that, I hate to say it, deserved better. Jonah was very hot and cold and their relationship honestly gave me whiplash.
But on a positive note, I did like the music focus, the record store setting and Jonah's encouraging younger sister. I would 100% read a book all about Bailey.
Finally, I loved how So Not My Thing transported you to New Orleans through the food, music and people. I missed that wanderlust feeling in Here For It. While it did focus a bit on Mardi Gras, I selfishly wanted more.
Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for this honest review.
The title says it all: I am, most definitely, Here For It. If you love sweet romance, the kind of Romcom that delivers laughs along the quest to a perfect happily ever after, then look no further. I adore Melanie’s books, but this series in New Orleans is quickly becoming my favorite of hers (other than Finding Jack, that one will forever and always hold my heart, add that to your TBR too) I love Anneke (rhymes with Danica) and her strong sense of self importance. She is a woman who has been through crap relationships in the past, but she knows what her worth is. And Jonah. Oh, you old soul. I love him. He is a little fickle with his feelings, but once we strip down his onion (shrek, anyone?) layers, we all know he’s just hurting. The mysterious music man. Just yes. You’ll love him too. And of course I love the New Orlean vibes. The Mardi Gras prep and the traditions of the city. It’s a joy to be submerged in culture while reading a book.
This book is such a great premise! I think it’s my new favourite from Melanie Jacobson and I’ve been a fan of everything I’ve read from her so far.
Enemies to lovers is such a great trope, and grumpy sunshine, but adding in online friends who’ve fallen for each other meeting in person when one has figured out who the other is - yep, that’s perfection! A great trifecta of tropes and why I love this one the best. Anneka being a supermodel and not being impressive to Jonah, too? Made me love him from the start. A guy not going for looks but interested in a girl’s brain and always looking to meet his online friend, not swayed by the model right in front of him. No real guy could help but having some interest!
He’s a great family man and interacting with his mom and sister, running his dad’s old record shop, and trying to figure out how to get Anneka to forgive him and actually fall for him - Jonah is book boyfriend material.
This book was just okay for me. I did not enjoy this one as much as Book 1.
I just could not fall in love with Jonah. I get that he had been burned in the past and had walls up, causing him to be in a constant state of self preservation. But he was just so back and forth and Anneke gave him way more chances than I would have.
And the miscommunication! Ugh I hate the miscommunication trope, though honestly it’s probably more common in real life than we think. Jonah could have just been straight up and asked Anneke what the deal was. Once again, I know he was in self preservation mode but still.
I did however absolutely love Anneke. I thought she was fantastic. She was strong, competent, and just a genuinely wonderful character. She was the highlight of this book.
Though I didn’t love this one, I still plan to read book 3 and I’m excited for it !
This is my first book from the author and I’m hooked! I loved the story. I really liked how the heroine and the hero chatted online before meeting each other. It was really funny how meeting each other in person didn’t go so smoothly. I liked reading how the two of them both overcome their fears with relationships. It was really nice to see that for the most part they communicate the issues. I liked that a big part of the book features New Orleans. The author truly captured the feels of the place. This is an only kisses romance but yet has the feels of more! Most books don’t have the built up but this book does and I loved it!
Read if you like: Dual POVs Celebrity romance Grumpy hero Kisses only romance
Thank you @melaniejacobson_books for the e-arc of your next release!!
I am in love with the setting of this book. New Orleans around Mardi Gras and a records shop? Amazing!!
Anneke was a spitfire and a force to be reckoned with. Her wit was hilarious and she had some fantastic comebacks and lines.
Jonah was moody and quiet. In need of a little sunshine in his life. The two of them together was just perfect. I loved that they had so many things in common, but were still so different. They did a lot of back and forth and I wanted to shake them by the end.
Overall, I read this one so fast because I just didn’t want to put it down. If you loved closed door romance, laugh out loud moments, and sweet characters than this one is for you.
I’ve never been into the supermodel scene, except to watch a little America’s Next Top Model, but Anneka was amazing. In book one I was prepared to dislike her and her friendship with Miles- but once you meet Anneka, you love her. I’ve read some reviews of this series that complain that it’s not “romcom” enough, but in the spirit of the movies I love best, Melanie Jacobson hits the mark between drama and comedy just right. Can’t wait to read Chloe and Dylan’s story in book 3 - talk about a slow burn !
