Everything has changed, and the reflection in the mirror is almost unrecognizable. My soul mate, Alex, and our friends help to ground me.
However, what I've become is still unknown, and the abilities I have aren't anything we're familiar with.
As our enemies become more desperate, they're willing to sacrifice everything to kill me--even going so far as to contact a long-lost enemy, despite the consequences.
We quickly learn things aren't what they seem and that my heritage changes everything.
Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.
My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.
I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.
I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes. I am so pleased that you stopped by my page! Please feel free to follow or contact me at the following pages -
There is so much action and aggravation going on here. It’s a wonder Alex and Veronica still have their sanity. Lots of love, friendship, family keep them going. And some steam for stress relief! This entire series is so fast-paced, action-packed and amazing, it’s definitely a don’t miss!
Book: Demon Blood Read By: Ebook and Audio Author: Jen L. Grey Narrator: Amy Landon Genre: Fantasy, Paranormal Romance Main Characters: Alex and Veronica Recommend: Yes Spice: 🌶️️ 🌶️️ Age recommendation: 16-30+ Years My feelings:
Turns out I was half right about the sad how. Part angel but demon angel and it was a part of her:)
“He placed his forehead against mine as fear ran between us. “I was scared when it took so long for your heart to start again. I thought I’d lost you.”
Only negative thing I have to say about the whole book was its clearly a young adult book, and there wasn’t enough smut.
“Matthew’s eyes honed in on my hand, and his smirk fell as his chest heaved.”
Other then that I enjoyed the whole book. I loves the character development, I loved the relationships between them all.
“Griffin pointed at Alex and growled, “Don’t get any ideas. Family is pushing it, but I’ll settle for a friend.” “Aw.” Sterlyn pretended to wipe a tear from her eye. “Our boys are growing up.”
Keen to started the next series in this world:)

So, 6 books in, we still don't know who was after Sterlyn. This 3 book set, in this continuing world, does not measure up to the last 3. I found it juvenile at times, story did not flow, and a terrible rush to finish. Wham. Like 2 chapters left and we get a short fight, big reveal. Don't blink. You'll miss the finish.
This is a highly addictive series that just keeps you wanting to know more and more about the awesome characters. Adventure, suspense, secrets, chemistry, drama, love and respect. Love me a great vampire story with an amazing conclusion.
Fun read, action at very turn. I liked that friendships formed across species and that they confronted adversity as a united front. The unique personalities created interesting and fun conversations adding humor to the stories.
Amazing! I love the shadow city series! Wasn’t expecting that twist with Ronnie’s mom and sister. Can’t wait for the next couple to take their adventure!
So much action and suspence in this book! Veronica finding out who she is and Alex realizing what he can become. Love Gwen and the gang. Cannot wait to see what happens in the next series!
A newly turned vampire, who still eats? Ronnie will always be odd.
The prince and his half demon soul mate must now set the vampire world to rights. This means rising to their full powers, uniting with their friends, and killing the corruption from the inside.
Jen did a fabulous job wrapping up Veronica's story in Demon Blood the third book in the Royal Vampire series. This book was all action, excitement, and surprises, I loved every moment.
Ronnie has adjusted well to the supernatural world and is now a badass supernatural. Now Ronnie is starting to figure out the things she didn't get before. She's understanding more about her new world, working to understand the political dangers, and helping to make her new supernatural community better. Not only has Ronnie bonded with people who consider her family but she considers them family as well and she's also has found her other half in her soulmate, Alex.
Alex has also turned a corner. I didn't like him in Sterlyn's story and even at the beginning of this series he wasn't my favorite person but Alex has grown and changed for the better since meeting Ronnie and I'm starting to realize that he's not as bad as he could have been. I have actually come to the point that I like Alex now, he is protective of Ronnie while actually listening to what she is saying. Not to mention he seems to actually want what's best for his people and is actively trying to do better.
Jen has outdone herself with the plot of this one. Not only did she incorporate a brand-new supernatural but she's added new lore to the mix. More of Ronnie's backstory was given, there were some shocking revelations and a couple of plot twists. I loved that Sterlyn and the gang are still an intricate part of the story and have fully accepted Ronnie and Alex. Gwen was a surprise in this one, nicer than I expected but Matthew was an even bigger jerk than expected and that's saying something, considering I didn't have a high opinion of him before. I knew the guy had issues but his actions in this book were beyond shocking and very revealing.
It's a good thing my favorite people continue to outwit the nasty tricks that the hateful trio comes up with. Matthew is so obvious, Azbogah is a steady threat but what about Ethan? I really don't get him but he is sure to cause more trouble. The last few chapters of this book were wicked, the action and revelations were mind-blowingly good. Ronnie gets answers about her past, Matthew's true intentions are revealed and it's another deadly battle with an HFN for my favorite characters.
Demon Blood was so fantastically written, I enjoyed it so much. Ronnie's story wrapped up nicely but just like the Silver Wolf part of the Shadow City universe things are obviously not over. I can only hope that all of my favorite people continue to have important roles in the next trilogy in the Shadow City universe.
Book 1 ended on major cliffhanger. I skipped book 2. I liked the magic in the book- Ronnie is part demon, and is turned into vampire. This allows her to turn into a shadow and bond with a demon blade. In her shadow form, only demons and angels can see her. She can also move through objects or fit through small holes, and fly. Eliza is a witch that had been spelling Ronnie to be human and not let the demon side take over. Matthew was behind the rogue vampires. He also finds Ronnie’s dad (an evil part demon that killed her mom), who tries to kill her, but she kills him. Matthew also is killed. So in the end, Alex is king and Ronnie will be his queen.
The rest of this review is why only 2 stars, when the above plot line is pretty decent:
The part I disliked are the personalities and constant reminder of how fast all this happened (maybe a month, and everyone is so in love and bonded with their friend family)? If I were Matthew I’d be annoyed too- brother of 300 years takes less than a month to completely change allegiance. But also seems unrealistic that a 325 vampire that old has no patience or sly slow planning to get brother back? Why not wait 70 years and then Ronnie probably dies of natural causes? Probably not even that long since she tends to go headlong into dangerous situations with no training.
Ronnie also keeps saying she had trouble finding friends or trusting people, but calls these strangers family after less than a month. This whole series she uses her past as a scapegoat to show insecurity and defensiveness, rather than this being due to the short timeframe that she met them. She only has been there a month, and some are 300 years old, but apparently they are family now?! That is hard to believe- harder to believe than magic.
She frequently says she wants to go with Alex to “be by his side” and be a team and help even though she admits she has no training or skills as far as anyone knows. Lucky for her she magically does, but I would have liked a training scene where they discover this prior to an actual dangerous situation. Maybe this was in book 2? I was surprised when she actually listened to her friends to wait and not charge ahead at the end.
I skipped book 2 because I didn’t like the mid scene cliffhanger and I assumed book 2 would have the same. Considering this book starts with Ronnie thinking she died, I think that’s true. This book ends with only a few loose ends which I assume are stories for future books.

It was good enough. Listened to the audiobook on Audible. The narrator was great. No, she was phenomenal. I’m 95% sure she is why I made it through and these books didn’t end on the DNF shelf and why it got 3 stars and not less.
Also, there’s apparently books that come before this trilogy? I didn’t know that. I probably won’t go and read them. This book and the 2 before it were interesting in premise and in book one actually seemed full of promise: It had a “blood is thicker than water” family dynamic, as well as the lost and displaced person finds their “true home.” It was all wrapped up in political corruption and Betrayal. Love and friends in unexpected places…. The ingredients were all there for one excellent story. Except…. The repetition! 3 books, yes three, of:
MC: “you stay here. Don’t get hurt.” FC: “Oh hell no. You don’t get to make choices for me.” MC: “please I’ll be distracted if I’m worrying about you.” FC: “fine I’ll say.” 💥🧨💥*****MC goes to fight****** 💥🧨💥
FC: “oh what if he needs me?!”
🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️*****runs to get involved**** 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️
(((Fight ends)))
MC “I told you to stay!” FC: “I’m a strong independent woman I make my own decisions. You don’t get to tell me what I can and can’t do.”
Again. And again. Aaaaand again. Seriously the thing I’ll remember most about this trilogy is the phrase: “oh hell no.”
I loved Ronnie’s story. Her and Alex are two of my favorite characters. I hope we get a trilogy for Gwen! Fun story. The ending was excellent.
****SPOILERS BELOW****
I have read the Shadow City series out of order so I knew what was going to happen. Knowing what I did changed how I viewed this trilogy to a degree and I don’t know how my opinion would differ if I’d read them in order.
The books moved soo slow. It took until almost halfway through this book (book 3) for Ronnie to accept her demon and get that side of her supernatural. I was looking forward to seeing, from her perspective as we see it in later books from the others, more of the demon side and less time as the damsel in distress. I had to remind myself that this all occurred in like a month but it picked up and kept me fully invested once she was fully a demon/vampire hybrid.
I appreciate the growth that both Alex and Veronica go through. Ronnie’s perspective felt natural for someone who has only discovered n the supernatural.
As always, I absolutely love the banter between all of the characters. It’s what kept me going through a few parts. I sincerely hope Sierra gets her own trilogy too. If she has one I haven’t found it yet. I know the others have their own already.
Super fun paranormal with great world building and strong found family vibes. Each sub-series has its own story arc, but there is bigger political drama unfolding throughout the series. Overall, you’ll like this series if you like good vs. evil plots, political drama, fated mates, alliance building.
The only negative is that I feel like each subseries should have been one book. I find that each individual book ends in an odd place, but each series has a good conclusion.
Although each sub-series can be read as a standalone, it’s much more enjoyable to binge in order:
This is the final book in the Shadow City Royal Vampire trilogy. I have to admit that I didn’t enjoy this trilogy as much as I did the Shadow City Silver Wolves trilogy. Although I did love seeing characters from that trilogy have a big presence in this one.
The plot was interesting, but the dialog seemed a bit immature. I guess this is a NA demographic, but even so, I found myself rolling my eyes at times with pace of Alex and Veronica’s love story. I was reminded of that “you’re schmoopy, no, you’re schmoopy” episode on Seinfeld. . . .or was it on Friends? Oh well.
If you like your PNR stories to be light and not too steamy, this may be your jam. If you want more oomph from your romance books, you ay want to put this on the back burner and go with something else on your to read list.
Did this series get worse? Yes, yes it did. I pretty much hated this entire book & had to force my way thru it. The plot that barely kept me going in books 1&2 totally took a nose dive in book 3. I lost interest in every character & with each of their storylines. If you took away the intimacy between the 2 main characters (which I fast forwarded thru b/c of how awkward they were) & removed some of the language, I'd consider this book to be a very basic YA book... Borderline early teenager. It's too predictable & too corny. Too simple for my likes. The audiobook narrator also continued to be extremely annoying & I personally will now try to avoid her works in the future. She didn't sound genuine at all. I do not recommend this series & probably will stay away from other books by this author... It would take a lot to overcome the annoyance I've developed after completing this series.
Ronnie becomes aware in her death as expected but becomes something unexpected and unknown by those around her. At the Council meeting, the allies detail the illegality of Matthew and Azbogah’s actions winning more to their side. Now that Ronnie’s species is no longer and issue and Azbogah gives a surprising vote, Matthew has to make a new plan.
Meanwhile, Ronnie and Alex rocking from the betrayals by important people in their lives work to unravel the knotted path to the core of the rogue vampire ring. Also, desperate to return to the status quo, Matthew’s begins a personal quest with at least one more trick up his sleeve to keep him power and rid his world Ronnie but seems to be leading to vampire civil war! Rating: 3.75stars
This final installment in Veronica and Alex's main story was spot on. The action packed scenes gave way to good storytelling and world building with friends becoming long time allies. I guess thats how you want gen z to react to such stories and that's exactly how I have. I loved the ending. The best part about Jen's stories are the way she interweaves her characters in every book making it a unique verse.
And the end itself gave way to knowledge that we haven't seen the last of these guys. There will be much more of all of them. I am patiently waiting for Cyrus next. But I'd love to see more of the family she's made and how they find their mates, so that they can all help in saving Shadow City... Look forward to Jen Grey's universe...
