The status quo has changed... just as Mason and Cora are getting to know — and trust — each other, new questions arise that threaten loyalties all around.

And what will happen if she can't figure it out in time?
RL Kennedy grew up in the Galena Woods, reading thrillers at too young an age (before her parents knew who Stephen King was). She started writing The Silence Between the Pines at only 9 years old - then returned to it many years later to finally finish it (and there is more in store).
While you wait for her next thriller, if you like a bit of romance, you can check out her other books under her full name, Randileigh Kennedy.
She loves to connect on Facebook (either her personal page @ RandileighKennedy or if you want a much less personal experience, @RandileighkennedyAuthor).
In this book, the 2nd in the series, the group is preparing for the attack by Collin's and Cara's father. They are high alert understanding that it could happen at any time. Charlie has asked Cara to study a 2nd map and see if there is any sort of concurrence with the 1st one that he gave her. Cara along with Morgan went to Morgan's Grandfather's farm to search. As time has gone by, Cara and Morgan are becoming attached to each other and this time together makes them grow closer.
Soon the expected confrontation happens, and things get nasty. After the attack, the next day Cara and Morgan go back to searching the other farm. As time gets closer to them having to return, they make a decision to stay. When they get back the next day, things have changed for the worse.
To discover what happened when Cara's father showed up, what thing occurred that made matters worse, and what event in the end will lead to the next story, then you need to read this book. You won't be disappointed.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
NT aka RLK has been one of my favorite authors for years. His character development is so realistic it feels like he knows all of my extended family and has used them as templates. His characters stay true to form, even in the midst of the most unexpected plot twists. I have been on a post apocalyptic book rampage during the entire pandemic. What better way to feel better about a country torn to pieces by pandemic with an incompetent lying administration than to read about a fictionalized account of the same. His books always take me away for hours and days at a time. Since I am battling my second Covid Pneumonia in 8 months, I loved reading this book. I know how fast he can produce new materials and I can’t wait for book 3. Cora really needs me to understand what is actually happening & I can’t wait….
After reading Shelter Below – the first book in this series, I was so excited to finally start reading After Dark. Hopeful that this second book in the series would be at least as good as the first one – I was blown away. Further excellent development of the characters both major and minor and as one never knows which character from a slate of characters will feature prominently somewhere down the road I believe it is very important to flesh out as many as possible without taking from the story. The author has done a great job with this. Some interesting surprises I didn’t see coming but they only added to the story. I really appreciate the pace at which the story is moving – wonder how many books will eventually be in the series – I hope quite a few! This was an excellent read – great pace – interesting interplay between characters. Definitely recommend this book.
Yes! The saga continues...EMP takes out the world and the aftermath is intriguing.
Cora manages to find love, but fights it cause Uncle Charlie doesn'tapprove...until she lets go. Mason fits right in and loves watching Cora bloom as she undertakes the chore Uncle Charlie gave her.
It all seems to be going well, few people make their way to the farm, some with good intentions and some with bad. The trick is to figure out which is which without too much drama.
It all takes a bit of a turn when Cora and Mason decide to take some us time...here's hoping they can triumph over the challenges to come.
Book 2 of the Underground Series takes a different tack. After the action of Book 1, it’s time to flesh out the characters and their roles, and explore the physical area around the Bunker to tie down security and expansion possibilities. Add in some loose end characters coming on scene, and some loses, it becomes almost unbearable for the main character Cora and her man Mason.
All these interplays are well crafted, and it‘s the weight of responsibility going forward that becomes the ending to this book.
I’d say After Dark is a slower pace of necessity. What will follow will build on this book.
ability to transport myself to the book and characters
Fantastic story line that keeps me turning the pages to find out what’s going to happen next. Throw in a little love story and family drama what else could you ask for! Now patiently waiting for book 3!
The series has been good so far. What I did not like is all the internal monologue that goes on, mostly with Cora. I found myself skipping several portions related to her, and continuing on without missing a bit.
