Never, Ever

I, Abigail Marie Henry, do solemnly vow that I will never, ever date another man for as long as I draw breath.

Many years ago, a teenage boy destroyed my trust and obliterated my heart all for the sake of winning a bet. He may have won, but me? Well, I lost everything. My virginity and my self-esteem. My ability to trust people or take people’s word at face value.

Jameson Porter blew town for law school and an office in a high rise, so logistically I figured I would never have to see his face again. That stupid perfect and angular face with his dimples and sparkling blue eyes.

But now? Well, now he has returned to our small town and calling him a boy is more laughable than the video of Vin Diesel auditioning for Cats.

Jameson has a plan for his life, a plan that he says includes me. The man may show remorse for what the boy did, but I’m not entirely sure my heart is ready for forgiveness.

The thing is, I swore to never, ever put myself out there again. I swore to always be my number one - my own ride or die. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, well it’s a good thing I’m not ever going there.

Too bad Jameson isn’t going to let something like a simple “no” stop him from getting what he wants.

My vow be damned.
