Never Have I Ev... Wait, what was the question again?!
What happens when an ill-advised party game makes it obvious I've still got my V-card?
Embarrassment. A lot of embarrassment.
Especially when the sexy, older guy at the party who witnessed the whole thing turns out to be someone I have to see every week. Not to mention my best friend's cousin.
He's not only straight, but way out of my league.
It's going to be so awkward for both us.
Or awesome...if his protective nature and flirty attempts to teach me how to date lead to the kind of tutoring that lives in my fantasies. But how likely is that to happen? I'm not known as the sweet, naive one among for my friends for nothing.
I'm probably imagining those looks he throws my way. Probably projecting my own want onto his expression.
But...what if I'm not?
Never Have I Evan features an inexperienced, shy tech geek, an assistant football coach who oozes confidence, a town full of quirky, nosy residents, and sexual awakening and discovery themes!

Brief Summary:
Set in the small-town of Granville, Nebraska (which is a real place, thought it was fictional lol) Evan Moore meets his best friend's (Calista) cousin Dawson Woods at a party. 19 year old Evan is a virgin 🤪, so when a hot older man (20 something) comes to this small-town for a new job as an assistant coach at a local high school (where Evan volunteers once a week), it's of no surprise that our young horny MC is attracted to the "very straight" football coach.
Evan is a Tech Club advisor/mentor at the high school and who also happens to work there? No one other than Dawson. Mortified by this news, Evan cannot avoid running into our hot coach😂. So much so, that these two become "friends". But of course not for too long, because these two eventually become fuck buddies, or as some would say friends with benefits.
Seems like coach Dawson is not as straight as he thought and our young impressionable cute nerd, Evan gets the opportunity to finally lose his precious V-card😏.
Can these two become more than just friends who have casual sex? Without the lines blurring in a small ass town, where everyone gossips? Guess you gotta read to find out😉.
Thoughts on this book:
I thought this was a somewhat cute book but it was very predictable (as usual😑). However, the characters were likeable enough that I continued to finish the book and to even read the next book. I thought Evan was an adorable nerd and Dawson was sweet. Their "love" was cute but cheesy af. Dawson who was straight his whole life is suddenly aware of his sexuality without any doubt, that was just unrealistic. Evan is 19 years old and immediately in love🙄🙄, give me a break.
Regardless of all that, I still thought it was an okay enough book to finish. If you like somewhat cute characters, with some fluff, low angst and a predictable plot then I guess this is for you. However, if you like angst, chaos, character development and characters with depth, interesting plots, then sis this is not for you💅🏻.
meh... not a terrible book i guess, but definitely nothing special either. seems very mediocre and forgettable for the most part, but if you ever want something easy, fluffy and low angst, i guess this could work for you.
This book was pretty middle of the road. Same old story and a bit predictable.
As someone who frequently devours a book in a single day and sometimes procrastinates on my to do list in order to finish a book- this book took me over three days to read. I would set it down mid chapter, even mid sentence and just have no desire to pick it back up. On the other hand, I should be thankful because my to do list is done and my house is clean because I had absolutely no temptation to put off my house work in order to read. 🤷🏻♀️😂
- virgin - jock x nerd - flirting lessons - bi awakening - friends to lovers - small town
When a game of Never Have I Ever reveals Evan’s status as a virgin in front of a hot stranger at a party, he wants to crawl into a hole & die. Even more so when he soon learns the hot stranger is his best friend’s straight cousin AND someone he’ll be seeing on the regular.
Dawson has just moved to Granville and taken a job as the high school’s assistant football coach, a last ditch effort to get his life back on track after a spinal injury that stopped him from living his dream of playing in the NFL. There he runs into Evan who oversees the high schools Tech Club, and needs help finding beta testers for the study buddy app he’s in the middle of creating.
Evan and Dawson soon become friends outside of work, and things accidentally shift into more when Dawson suggests teaching Evan how to flirt. Their story is a total fluff fest, and I loved the progression of their sweet friendship into more.
In another auhtor's hands, this might not have worked. But Evan, a shy, nerdy 19-year-old virgin and Dawson, a 22 or 23-year-old jock whose gone through some stuff, had such amazing chemistry, I just adored them together.
When Dawson comes to town, he's a little down on his luck. His was a big college football star, before a drunken fall off a roof after a fight with his girlfriend almost made him paralyzed. As it is, he broke his leg in like 3 plages, and his spine *was* bad, so bad that they didn't want to let him continue to play, because if he did take a bad hit on the field again - which, this is football, so he would - then he would most likely be paralyzed then.
Dawson was in a dark place after all that, and he lost almost everything. he even has no money when he gets to town and has to stay with his cousin, who happens to be Evan's best friend.
But he did get a job as an assistant coach at the local small town high school, and this is Dawson's chance to get his life put back together.
Evan is very smart, but he's got a lot going on his life as well. He gives too much and rarely takes for himself, constantly working too much. He works almost full time at his grandfather's hardware store in town, getting paid a lot less by his grandpa for how much he works, because his dad and grandpa had a falling out 3 years prior over how to run the business, and his grandfather has too much pride to let it go and make up with his son.
Also, he's getting up there in age and can't run the store all by himself. Evan also runs a tech club at the high school, developing an app with the tech students, all while developing his own app he hopes to make into a big thing one day.
But when Evan and Dawson meet at a party when Dawson first gets to town, Evan is immediately smitten. Dawson believed himself straight, so he didn't see it right away. But when they have to interact more when, as the assistant coach, Dawson is roped into helping with the tech club, because a few of his football players are asked to beta test the app the club is working on.
Soon, as they get to know each other more, the connection blooms between them and, Dawson starts to feel things for Evan, especially when he offers to help Evan sexually, as someone Evan can trust to make all his firsts good for him, and make him feel safe while he gets experience.
Of course, it being about just that falls by the wayside very quickly, although Dawson, having been burned before, is scared to let them be more than just friends with benefits.
But Evan obviously wants more, but he tries to shove that down, as he wants anything he can get with Dawson.
And of course they fall for each other and it's glorious and I just adored their chemistry together. It was very believable as these two fell fo each other.
I highly recommend this. It was just a good time all around. Two massive thumbs up from me! 🥰
I can't wait to dive into Darren and Linc's story now, which I'm off to go read righhht now 😁
Very sweet, pretty much pure fluff and exactly what I was looking for.
It's a very soft sexual awakening, with domestic vibes and lots of caretaking. I especially enjoyed how they both supported and encouraged the other, and were always there to help out. Lots of acts of service in this one.
I'm not sure the characters act their age though and I don't think it was effective to make them so young. Evan is 19 but carrying a lot of responsibilities, seemed more like mid-twenties to me. Likewise with Dawson who's only a few years older.
I was almost surprised with how quickly I got through this, it didn't feel nearly as long as it was (360 pages??). That said, that is a lot of fluff, and it probably would've worked just as well at half the page count.
I've been having pretty good luck with D.J. Jamison for low angst reads, and will surely read all the rest of this series at some point.
This was too cute. Nothing new or earth shattering plot-wise, just a fun and romantic story about Evan, a gay virgin tech guy, and Dawson, a "straight" high school assistant football coach. I loved the small town feel and all of the nosy grannies in everyone's business. And all of the side characters in this book were great (with one exception). I loved Calista most of all, though. She was brutally honest, but so supportive, especially when she was about to slap a bitch on Evan's behalf. I can't wait to see how Darren's story plays out next.
I had a really nice time reading this one, where Jamison gave Evan and Dawson interesting and full-fleshed side stories, which completed the "teaching" trope on the best way possible. Why the quoting marks? Because, let's be honest, it wasn't really about teaching - ahead of flirting - as Dawson was quickly figuring out why his relationship with Evan felt so right. That's where the deeper topics entered the game, with reflections about regrets, guilt, depression and low self-esteem.
This book tackled some heavy themes as we explored healing processes through Dawson's story. He had to let go of his past (mentally and emotionally) to finally be ready to turn the page and start afresh. Evan had also his share of burdens with taking care of the family business while balancing all his other responsabilities. Not that he ressented his Grandpa for that, but it took a toll on his life nevertheless, and he struggled between his dreams and his duties. Then things got worse... but I'm not telling you everything!
Interactions between Evan/Dawson and the students were nice, but I especially liked Dawson's connection with Rojas and how he involved himself in this kid's life. As he struggled with some family problems he needed support and understanding, two things Dawson gave him in order for him to build a better future and reach his dreams. It was heartwarming and a huge help towards Dawson's healing. To be honest, Evan's story was interesting, but I felt like the book's main focus was Dawson's emotional life-altering storyline. And I'm not complaining.
Overall Evan and Dawson's couple was very sweet and steamy, with an amazing chemistry. There was a lot of support going on, for one another, but also from their friends. I loved Calista, so honest and caring💕and I'm super excited to learn more about Darren now. He seemed hilarious, especially when he didn't try to be funny and things took a sudden turn for him - that's what you get when you play with fire, buddy! I'm surprised by his pairing, but it makes me anticipate Book 2 even more^^
P.S. I've realized there is already a book about Lyle and Truman. Why isn't it part of the series?! Now I have to read it!
The story takes place in a small town in Nebraska where Evan has lived his entire life and helps his grandfather run the family hardware store. He's 24 years old.... a bit of a nerd ...and to his utmost dismay...still a virgin. He attempted to avoid his best friend’s, Calista’s party because he never seems to fit in and while he likes the people, all people that he has known and hung out with his entire life, he just can't seem to enjoy it...but he goes to be with his friends and there isn't much else to do in this little town. They aren't wild get-togethers, but they always seem to have drinking games, the favorite one being "Never Have I Ever". This is where it comes out that Evan is a virgin. Since he's known these people his entire life, it’s really not so terrible, but still, he's embarrassed. Then it's kind of IS terrible since he notices the gorgeous guy who overheard the whole thing....and he’s mortified. When a project for the high school requires his considerable talents as a computer programmer, he begins working with "Mr. Gorgeous Hunk" who he finds out is Calista’s cousin, Dawson. After imploding his college football career, Dawson has returned home to coach the high school football team. The two work together and learn a lot about each other and themselves in the process. DJ Jamison is known for sweet, warm and fuzzy stories and this one is not an exception. Some of it is cheesy, some of it unbelievable, but in the end, it will put a smile on your face. It's fairly short low angst fluffy stuff that will pass a few hours.
Super cute jock/nerd & playboy/virgin romance! I liked the evolution of unrequited crush to friends to frennies with bennies to lovers. This series is really cute and funny.
This was a nice addition to the series, but I didn't like it more than the previous installment.
Lyle's book was funny at least, but this one bordered on boring.
🟢 Bi/Pan-awakening 🔵 Size difference 🟣 Gay MC is a virgin
I think the dynamic between Dawson and Evan wasn't that well described here, the story should focus more on the unattainability of Dawson and Evan's pining than the topic of showing Evan all the ropes of sex, which wasn't that good for me, because Evan was gay and Dawson wasn't. I don't think it worked well.
I mean how is Dawson going to show Evan anything about gay sex, when he's completely straight with absolutely no experiences with men?
In theory, how is he going to do that? Evan was 19 and gay, so it made no sense in my mind, I don't know, I just didn't like that aspect of the story.
The story had its moments that were romantic, funny or sexy, but it wasn't interesting enough, at least for me.
I really like Granville and all its little funny quirks and unique residents, so I'm definitely going to continue reading the series.
This writer has a light, entertaining storytelling that I really welcome, it's a bit predictable, but I like it.
I just love D. J. Jamison. Her books are just so good, and this one is no exception. Evan and Dawson are incredible characters. I listened to this as an audiobook and John Solo was excellent.
After an injury, Dawson can no longer attend the NFL, but he can coach! Meeting the shy geek Evan is fun. As the older straight guy, Dawson will teach Evan to flirt, so he can find his guy.
Evan has to adjust with Dawson around, it’s so confusing to have this very attractive flirting guy at his side. Pity the guy is straight. They go to clubs together, Dawson as wingman, for Evan it’s all hurtful, trying to flirt but never with the guy he wants. When they finally got a guy Evan seems interested in, Dawson doesn’t like it a bit. He got a proposal for Evan, he wants to help him, to experiment with him. Evan can experiment and Dawson wants to enjoy the ride and be a safe place for him. It’s a win-win right? Watch them play never have I…
They are hot together and fun. Evan blooms and Dawson can’t get him out of his system.
It was a great read, Evan’s naivety was endearing and hot to watch. All the small town fuss, nosy people, the high school, students, football, coaches, the apps, and the shop. It is all very entertaining. Both guys together were fireworks, there are a few obstacles before they end up as a couple. Some fierce friends are of help. Clear and captivatingly written story, sexy af, and feelings all over. Love this story, read it in one sit!
I like so much but so much this book , I am fascinated with the world so beautiful so full of comfort and unique characters that has created this author, I despertly need that there are more than 20 books in this series and I am completely in love with this group of friends , of the small town , of the vibrations that the author implements in these stories, I loved the prequel and this book did not stay behind, Evan and Dawson were so cute and amazing charachters , I thought it would only be a cute story but it was much more than that , The spicy moments were no joke and it’s that Evan and Dawson are fire when they’re together, I’m dying to read Darren’s book and I just don’t want to ever get out of this beautiful world.
I really enjoyed this. This was fun and cute. M/M coming of age.
Evan is a virgin and now everyone knows it. When the hot guy he meets turns out to be a permanent fixture in town he gets a chance to get to know him well. What starts as friends turns to more.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Was expecting to love it, but it gave me nothing special.. I felt like I read the story many times before in different books, even the characters and the emotions weren't that strong to make me ignore the poor plot which was almost just smut. The writing style was fun, the titles of the series are very creative, but I don't know if I'm gonna continue it or no, non of the characters held my attention enough.
“The months afterward got pretty dark. But you are the light at the end of the tunnel. You and Granville and the coaching gig. You all saved me.”
Evan and Dawson have that jock/nerd dynamic done right that I really like. It's sweet and interesting. I do wish we knew more of the ex girlfriend and Dawson's accident. I don't think such a big event should be so undetailed by the end.
It was fun, kind, and not too heavy, but with great character development. Evan is awkward and an introverted tech geek, which leads to an amusing meet-cute with Dawson, his BFFs very hot straight cousin.
Dawson has moved to town, looking for a fresh start after a tragic accident left his life in disarray. His football career dreams are lost bought he has a chance to find a new passion as Assistant Coach at the local high school.
As these two end up forging a friendship, with Dawson trying to teach him the art of Flirting, Dawson starts to realize he may not want Evan to get any real-life experience at it.
”I don’t want to be your warm-up for the love of your life. I want to be the one.”
I love a bi/pan awakening. There's something really lovely about someone coming into their feelings. Their flirting is a lot of fun, and it was great the way each of them helped the other find the courage to really embrace the life and dreams they longed for.
A bit on the long side, but I moved along pretty well and had enough going on to keep it moving. Already looking forward to the next one.
There are so many things I loved about this, right down to the fun title. It checked a lot of boxes for me - first times and bi awakening, to name a couple. Evan is a sweet, geeky guy from a nosy small town, and will do anything for anyone, with little reward or time for himself. He's the inexperienced one, and he gains confidence by the end. Dawson used to play football, and now he's coaching in this small town, needing a second chance at his life. He never expected to like a guy, but he isn't resistant to the idea. And he's such a sweet, caring person. I loved these boys, and I am super excited for the next book.
I feel like the author was trying to force the subplots on Us but I promise you I did not care one bit about that just snooze fest ugh. it didn't help at all with the romance something felt lacking. I really really wished the author focused more on the romance rather than just put all of this subplot everywhere then it turned out to be messy and unnecessary. This was such a disappointing read I had high hopes maybe it's my own fault for having so much expectations idk. The third act was sooo predictable from a mile away I just went bullseye with it. It was such a slow and boring read for me Probably the Case of its Me I'm the problem it's me not the book
~Warning spoiler rant~
I feel bad most of the time for Evan because he would rather be a whore for a straight crush rather than walk away from that and find a real person to love him, He was so desperate it's so painful even to read it, when Dawson doesn't seem like to make an effort at all.
This has such a subtle way of creeping a smile on my face. The more I read, the more I see the love sneaking up on both MC's. They don't even see it yet but it's so obvious to us (and probably everyone in Granville)😁 Reading about Dawson's healing process, the way he's slowly but surely making a new life for himself is so uplifting and hopeful. Evan is a rock, a beautiful, loveable soul deserving all of the good things.
I love the progression, the way the story unfolds, the way both MC's open up to where their lives are taking them. And most of all the way they fall for each other.
