The True Self is a timeless journey of philosophical teachings from across history and all over the world. Told through the lens of Lokesh’s own life, from his troubled teenage years in India and the heartbreaking death of his mother, to the joy of fatherhood and his resilience in the face of illness, his recent time in India during COVID pandemic, caring for his father till his last breath, he became a witness to many things. This book offers a starting point for those asking the big questions in life: Who am I? Why am I here? And what is my True Self? His is a journey we can all relate to, and the peace he has found is one we can all attain.
A spiritual guide told in an honest, intimate style The True Self is a personal journey through universal wisdom. An annotated collection of philosophical texts, from ancient teachings to modern philosophy, about the purpose and meaning of life.
The True Self is the inner canvas that paints the journey of philosophical teachings along with glimpse of author's life. Here the author has collected timeless wisdom over a considerable period of time from reading and understanding different scriptures and books. He has described every facet of human psyche and behaviour in great details.
This book provides a clear understanding of one's own self through the profound wisdom of books and texts, it includes various life changing philosophical works as well as spiritual texts. The objective is to clear the fog and clarify the confusion in our lives to emerge as a true self who is conscious of his being. The amount of research and knowledge put into this book is truly unbelievable for such a small volume. Every line is dedicated to uplift life and give more definition to it. Though most of the content comes from author's own understanding and annotations of other books and texts, there's something about this book that feels relatable and calming.
Writing style is simple, written in very layman way. Would have loved small chapters rather than the bulky ones this book has. I would recommend this book to beginners for it's basic nature and easy to understand concept.
This kind of decision was once taken by author Lokesh babu years ago when he was travelling from Varanasi to Mumbai.
he thought of buying a few second-hand books of Rabindranath Tagore & Herodotus from a street seller. To cut short the long journey.
But this journey was going to be life-changing for him because it was the beginning of the philosophical truth that the author was going to get from his life.
This question always hits us once in our lives that
what is the purpose of my life? What meaning is there to my life? Where to find happiness & peace?
All these questions were already answered by our ancestors in our Vedas, Upanishads & religious texts but we don't find them interesting as we never leave the door open to know them.
we always keep ourselves stuck between modern technologies& the chaos generated by them.
But the author has done great work in this book by providing a gist Of the knowledge, he gain by reading several Indian & Western Texts & the lessons he learned from his journey called life.
This is one of those great books I have read till now & I think one will learn a lot from this, despite their ages.
Lokesh Babu in his book The True self- Unlock the Chaos in You tells about his journey, his teachings and all that he learned. Coming from a small town, he was always under family pressure to fulfil their dreams. Running away from the pressure, Lokesh desired to follow his heart, explore the opportunities and follow his dreams.
In this journey, he shares about his learnings from life, from Vedas and Upanishads, from the books he read and how they helped him, the teachings of philosophers, ancient Greek Philosophy and a lot more.
This book is less about his journey and more about his learning which I liked the most. How beautifully, in a detailed way, he explained the concepts which many of us are unaware of.
To be honest, it's one of the best reading experiences if you love reading about Vedas, Law of the Universe and the lessons from the book. The author here mentions some of our favourite books and how they helped him, the things he learned from them.
Wonderfully narrated, with an interesting writing style, in this book, you will find calmness. His life has been challenging and the way he handled the situations and he sought spiritual guidance is what I loved most. How books he read, helped him, how he took every opportunity to know and understand the teachings.
Divided into five chapters, the author talks about understanding the true self. This book is a blend of emotions, knowledge and answers. I enjoyed reading about his trip to Varanasi the most.
I liked how he fought to follow his dreams, the chapter where he saw his father struggling between life and death, the lessons from the book Ikigai and of course the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali date back to India in the 2nd Century BC and some other topics I liked reading the most.
It's time to discover new directions from ancient wisdom and find ourselves, our answers.

📚My Review:- Do you often ask yourself Who am I? Why am I here? And what is my true self? If yes then this is a perfect pick for you as it will definitely help you find the answer to all the questions that are often left unanswered. Hello dear readers, I hope so you all are doing absolutely fine and healthy. The author Lokesh Babu has come up with an amazing fictional read which features the author own experiences and takes the readers on a journey that begins 3000 to 5000 years ago, with ancient teachings like Vedas and Upanishads, then moves from Greek philosophers to gurus and saints, yogis and modern philosophy. The book is divided into simple five chapters which talks about seperation, inequality, and the drive to search for truth, also about finding clarity and strength to follow your heart. Pandemic has greatly affected lives. It has forced us to find a different perspective on the value of life. Everything has it's own advantages as well as disadvantages. We are definitely suffering from various anxiety, stress, fear, sadness, anger and frustrations but at the same time it's a great opportunity for the humanity to focus and reflect on what is truly valuable in our lives, and how best to contribute to the world around us with empathy. Through this book the author guides you to a way to understand and take control of your life. Turn the pages to explore this wonderful read in detail. The pace of the book is moderate typically making the book more interesting to read. The vocabulary is rich and lucid. The writing style along with the narration is absolutely gripping and smoothly maintained throughout till the end. Being a reader it took me around few hours to complete these 146 pages. Would love to read more books by the author. Personally, I loved this book. The cover is well depicted and the title fits perfectly with the content. I would highly recommend this book to each and everyone reading this review. Overall, I had great time reading it.
It is said that one of the greatest and the most crucial adventure that we can embark in our lives is the journey of discovering who we really are.
And yet there are still so many of us who just prance around either not really knowing what we want or never listening to our inner self.
Giving priorities to our daily activities is no doubt very much important, however a life that is nothing more than a series of going through the same motions usually doesn’t provide much satisfaction.
‘The True Self: Unlock the Chaos in You’ by Lokesh Babu is a book which narrates the journey of the author right from his formative years, which will not only provide the guidance to the readers who are on the path of self discovery but will also motivate others to take a chance upon themself and determine what it truly is that we want from the life.
It takes a lot of courage to break the norms that have been imbibed into us since we are young, to go against the societal pressure and to follow what our heart desires, to release the familiar and seemingly secure to embrace the new.
Yet, the author has done all of this when he decided to say no to a marriage which his family had arranged, to be in a relationship from someone outside the community, to start a new venture knowing the risks that would come with it.
This journey of the author finding his true self was not an easy one, considering all the challenges and roadblocks that he had to face, yet with his perseverance and never say never attitude, he was able to overcome his hurdles and be a mentor to all those who would require his guidance. Hence I am going to give this book FIVE TRUE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It is quite ironic that as a human being we always try to find solace in someone else's company. We crave for affection and a sense of belonging outside when the peace and serenity is present within our own self. You can't expect others to love you if you dont love yourself. This book stresses on the same fact through a beautifully woven guide.
The author has put forward the message in a simple yet effective way . Through his own experiences without sounding preachy ,using the tools of spirituality he has expressed the desire to see a world where people enjoy their own company instead of staying hooked to the idea of finding everything rosy from the universe around them
The best part about this self help book is the way author has come up with some impressive analogies and tried to ease the process of sending the right message to the readers. With most books of this genre the downside is after a point they feel like talking about the same thing though in a different language but in this book writer has quite efficiently put forward the process of getting a hold over your life by citing various instances from his own journey and hence should be picked by those who are finding it difficult to get their life back on track.
All in all a lovely guide that will soothe your soul.
The book ‘The True Self’ made my day. Reading this incredible source of self experiences the author had described in the five chapters was amazing . I believe this book is a much-needed guide for every other human who is into a trauma of depression. Every single page of the book hooked me up to the next. The author had done a commendable job in describing his pains and strengths. Going into a trench is easy but coming out of thorns is an achievement.
The cover page just defines the motive and is so connecting. I had undergone a gracious rollercoaster ride while reading. Recommended to every book lover.
Lokesh Babu’s writing feels very raw when he narrates his personal life experiences and what he took away from the many philosophical and spiritual writings he read over the years. However, I feel like the book would have done well with some good editing. Overall, it is a nice read.
What is it that makes life worth living? Is it the pursuit of happiness? Attaining success? As human beings living in a vast and endless universe, what are we actually living for? We look backwards rummaging through our past examining our own mistakes, failures, and losses and what we could've done to correct those that which cannot be changed. We yearn for the truth about our own existence where pain, suffering, loss, and even death is inevitable, but amidst those darkest moments, we rise above those conditions and grow beyond them.
Humans are defined by their sense of personality, their experiences and their reasoning. The hunger for finding true self guides us throughout our lives. Our tendency is to believe that the face we see in the mirror is us, a thing that has developed a personality through experience. Here, the body is no more than a tool for the mind, the true self. In this book by Lokesh Babu, you will find all the spiritual answers, clarity, and guidance that you are looking for on your path. It will help you attain inner peace and inner freedom. Additionally, it will help you attain positive strength, happiness, and higher levels of consciousness.
In The True Self, Lokesh Babu presents his fresh and inspiring perspective on the philosophy of purpose in life alongside practical advice for the reader. Taking inspiration from the author's own life, wisdom of existential philosophers, the insights and research of psychologists, and case studies from his own and others' experiences, as well as stories from the Vedas and Upanishads, the reader will learn how becoming who you are is a way to happiness, peace of mind, and even sanctity.
Using simple, but powerful prose, Lokesh Babu demonstrates how people around us affect and shape our emotional lives unconsciously. Lokesh Babu's story about suffering in teenage years will sure resonate with readers. This is an excellent book for learning more about yourself, how you became the way you are, and also as a possible source of help regarding the causes and cure of any emotional difficulties you may have. It will also help you better understand the people around you and how they came to be the way they are. It is a good source of psychological knowledge.
The True Self was a transformative and life-affirming read. Brimming with illuminating insights, Lokesh Babu explores, analyses, and shares his own harrowing experiences. More than that, he delves into numerous ways in how he sees suffering and pain as a part of life. These philosophical truths and therapeutic method hit close to home. For someone who has been wandering and wondering about meaning and purpose of life, this gave me a better understanding about life, offered me a glimmer of hope, and provided an enormous relief.
Are you going through a crisis or at a crossroad in life whereby you are in need of answers, meaning and spiritual direction for fulfillment and purposeful existence? If your answer is in the affirmative, here is a book that will definitely be of immense help to guide and assist in resurrecting and connecting you back together with your true self.
This book helps us to differentiate between self, mind, body and liberated from day-day today pain and suffering. Self-control is so important. It calms our mind and control it. If we feel the peace and know to control ourselves, the anxiety, depression, stress, frustration are no longer a part of our life. Covid has taught us more that what is life and what's the purpose of it Though it gives a more fear and sadness, it is also gave an opportunity for mankind to realize the humanity. It gave a pause to our fast paced life.
This book "True self" gave a widest path to discover new directions from ancient wisdom and guide us to know more about our own self better. My favorite chapter is "Finding Clarity and the Strength to follow your heart". I learnt all the fundamentals of life and the emotions that dealt with that in this chapter. There is so much of knowledge, ancient philosophies, guidance shared by the author in this book like about meditation, laws of universe, seven laws to focus, various philosophies, chakras, yogic practice and more about mind. I can't highlight all the things that is mentioned, explained in this book, every line, every word is motivated and inspired to understand life better and stimulate our thoughts into deep insight. It really helps to Unlock the chaos in You.
After reading this book, everybody will think of their own self and question within them that " Where am I now?, Who am I?, What am doing?, What I have to do?" If you asks all these questions to yourselves after reading this book, the author really wins that his sharing of knowledge never been useless.
Before getting deep into the book and turning the pages, the preface itself explains everything and urge us turn the pages with excitement. Rather than philosophies, ancient wisdom shared in the book, the teachings of the authors is a best part in it.
Do grab the book to get self motivated and improve your state of living by understanding and following the paths given in this wonderful book.
Kudos to the author for analyzing deep into ones self, finding the truth and sharing it to the universe to make others use of it.
Well done and a good job!
Its simple, short and sweet to guide us perfectly.
"If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present"
Lokesh was born in Nellore, South India in 1975. He is a frequent public speaker, and liaison to corporates, industry groups, and executives.
He was eight years old when his parents sent him to boarding school. He never felt connected to the inequality prevailing in society. Whenever he expressed a desire to help the less fortunate, he was told that God was punishing them for their sins and instructed them to do nothing. In his teenage years, he studied all religions and concluded that all religions are simply different paths towards a single truth. He moved from South India to Australia just before the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
The Upanishads helped him to understand his existence, the circle of life, the meaning of God, and the different states of mind and spirit within ourselves. A few popular television shows also helped his understanding too, like Brian Cox's "Forces of Nature, and Life of a Universe".
Later in 2005, he got married in India and the marriage was featured in the local newspaper and even interviewed for television - his partner belongs to the Caucasian race.
In this book, he discussed: Vedas, Upanishads, Patanjali, 12 Laws of the Universe, Buddhism, the teachings of Aristotle and Ramana Maharshi, along with quotes from the amazing books like, "The Prophet by Kahil Gibran, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, The Yogi Code by Yogi Cameron, Book of Mirdad by Mikhail Naimy, Ikigai by Ken Mogi, Lagom by Louisa Thomsen, Be as you are by David Godman", and many more.
The book consists of 5 chapters and less than 150 pages. Lokesh tried to explain the most complicated concepts or questions with an easy explanation without running around the bush. From loving its book cover to read the last page, I fell in love with the way the author tackled his life.
The title and tagline suggest the concept of the book. Here I will shortly summarise so that will give you idea about the book. It’s a short read that can be read in few hours. Author started the book with a personal story. Author studied in a boarding school and returned home after years. But somehow he felt like he doesn’t belong. He stole his father’s prescription and bought some sleeping pills and got onto a train. And the story is about how his life got back on track. This book consists of that entire philosophy. Chapter one consists of different ancient philosophy such as Vedas and Upanishad, Yoga, Greek and Chinese philosophy. That was quite informative and interesting concept for me to learn. The following chapters include knowledge and teachings from little bit newer and different era. Author took references from newer authors and book references too. Author has mentioned some personal examples and stories too. Some of them are quite fit to examples. Like when author mentioned his separation from partner for 10 years and about the whole process of IVF. Author mentioned few of newer concepts too that I never knew about such as Hygge -the Danish art of living well by Louisa T Brits. Hygge is a quality of presence and an experience of togetherness. Read the book to unfold further plot. According to me, I can divide the book’s learning into two sections. One is author’s personal experiences. Those are quite interesting, motivational and we can learn many things from it. And another one is philosophical part. Author has incorporated both parts in each chapter quite skilfully. I liked how author highlighted few points in paragraph and demarcated point wise section. That holds the interest of the reader and good for the better understanding. Author explained everything in simple and easily understandable manner. The narration style of the author is captivating. Overall good and informative read.
• The book walks us through the life of author, where he seeks to find his true self, and what his purpose of life is. The author expresses that the solution to all problems of humans is by self transformation. He talks about how the author started reading several books after being back home from boarding school and how his thoughts changed and processed.
From the book we can understand if we can change ourselves, figure out our weakness, strength and troubles, then it's easier for us to be a better person and identify what we want.
The author also talks about the inequality and discrimination based on caste system in India during the earlier times. Many Greek philosopher's like Socrates, Aristotle were mentioned in the book, and even about Bhudha too, sharing their theories and how it influenced the author to change his perspectives. Moreover, book also talks about the Vedhas and Upanishads and laws of universe. And all these books are the reason how his views changed.
“Pain is a natural phenomenon but suffering is entirely self-created. Every human being has the choice, to suffer or not to suffer.”
Do you know yourself fully? We don’t really. Knowing ourselves is a great journey towards exploring our true selves and unlocking the chaos in us. It is often a difficult path and one must be patient in its discovery. But of course, it’s not difficult at all. By following the teachings of great philosophies, we can get enlightened on the path of self-awareness and self-discovery.
In “The True Self” the author takes us through timeless wisdom and philosophies across different eras & cultures in human history and narrates the principles to live by in the 21st century. Through his own personal experiences of ups and downs from his teenage years to today, he transmits his insights wonderfully to his readers.
Following are the contents of the book which are written intelligently and beautifully:
💫 Separation, Inequality and The Drive to Search for Truth. 💫 Finding Clarity and the strength to follow your heart. 💫 From Separation to Union 💫 Acceptance, Silence, and Inner Peace 💫 Witnessing
Through each chapter, the author provides the knowledge to go nearer to your true self and emerge the one who is a conscious being. There are lessons by Greek philosophers, lessons he got when he was reading The Prophet, etc. The author presents his annotations and learnings from these great books and gives us his take on them.
A Spiritual Guide that contains ancient teachings, stoic intelligence, answers to the biggest questions of life, and modern philosophical insights, The True Self offers awesome learnings and enlightens one’s path towards self-discovery with simple and flowy language.
BOOK REVIEW BOOK - " THE TRUE SELF - UNLOCK THE CHAOS IN YOU " AUTHOR - " LOKESH BABU " GENRE - " SELF- HELP "
There is one question which has and is haunting the minds of the humans. What is the true purpose of their life on this planet earth?
What is moral and immoral ?
How to attain a highest level of enlightenment?
Very few men in the history has shown us the path and have lived a content life by reaching their true self. Be it Gauttam Buddha or Mahavir or Swami Vivekananda. But how can we common folks achieve a sense of purpose in this modernized world where talking a breath become difficult ?
The author has found himself in the same dilemma until that one journey which changed the path of his course. Travelling from Varanasi to Mumbai- the author bought books on Rabindranath tagore and Herodotus.
One can guess the profound impact these books had on his psyche. His journey for the purpose of life began which made him to learn several others books like the Prophet by Khalil Gibran , Vedas, Upanishads, books on stoicism which impacted the way he perceived life.
The beauty of this book is the author has successfully amalgamated the wisdom of the west and the east. The concise information and findings in the book was helpful for me to understand the varied concepts which was difficult to grasp. I could also do a competitive analysis. The author has equipped each chapter with his own life experiences which makes it an interesting read.
I would like to appreciate the author for having the passion and compassion to pen down his findings and the aim to make his fellow human beings achieve the true self which he has attained.

And its has various effects on mind & body. How deeply he thought abt the cover colour. I liked this deep thought of him. . I really enjoyed reading it.
Before starting the review, I would like to appreciate author Lokesh Babu for penning his life experiences wonderfully. It is tough to understand the purpose of one's life, and it's even tougher to explain it, and the author succeeded in imparting the knowledge. This book is therapeutic. Gosh! There are many praiseworthy things, and I will do my utmost to sum them up in this tiny review. In the book - The True Self, the author shared his journey from being a lost soul to finding the path of his true self that helped him overcome the worst phase in his life. The key lessons he learnt through ancient scripts such as Vedas, Upanishad, Ikigai, Taoism, the Prophet, Shaivism, Buddhism, etc., are summarised systematically in lucid language. My favourite part was the importance of meditation on the three syllables A U M (OM) and Shaivism; the power of syllable Na Ma Shi Va Ya. There are many more compelling topics like The Raja yoga, the example of mind in action, and the Analogy of hand. This book is like a best friend who shares their experience to help the other friend. I felt someone was giving me a remedy for all my problems. I would highly recommend this book to everyone; it helps to deal with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. In the end, I would sum up this review with a quote from this book "Life lives by life, life gives life, life gives for life, life gives power. Life is father, mother, sister, brother, tutor & guide. Life is all. If an individual feels & knows this, the reason is deeper than the discussion. A person who knows the truth goes beyond discussion."

Alongwith the knowledge of others, author also tells about his journey & struggles of life. He shares his experiences and lessons of life, patience and death.
❄️The author has summarized many books with the lessons & their takeways. The efforts of author are amazing to explain the content in concise and effective way. The last chapter explains the answers to questions "Who am I?" This book can change the perspective of readers towards life & thinking.

This book offers a glimpse of Vedic literature, Greek philosophy, and Western philosophy, and even Inner Engineering by Jaggi Vasudev.
Along with many spiritual and philosophical sightings, the author even referred to his life journey.

Pros: 1. You can get a summary of the most renowned books such as... And the gist of the life story of a few philosophical writers like Plato, Aristo, etc without much strain by reading about differently. 2. Lifehacks in very plain text are illuminated with brilliant hues. 3. Can have an outlook of how the chakras are aligned in our body. 4. Types of yoga and its significance. 5. Laws of life by Einstein and there are even a lot more, to know in this short book of 146 pages.
Cons: Not exactly,
but found one spelling mistake on the page 58 of 146 as gaol instead of "goal".
Finally, I don't want to be a spoiler so not disclosing all the contents inscribed in the book. But for sure, it's truly a good book to get the view of a true self.
We all have learned or lost someone from the last two years of the Covid Pandemic. This pandemic has taught many lessons to the young generation or we can say to the whole world, like the importance of life and myth about death, and of course, one lesson that LIFE IS A WONDERFUL LIE and DEATH IS AN ULTIMATE TRUTH. This book is related to the author's life and his life journey. From his own experiences he has explained his journey and how did he feel during his struggles and how did he tackle those obstacles in life. As this story is related to the spiritual city of India that is Varanasi, you can be assured of a spiritual journey in this book. I like the way the Author has researched most of the Ancient Indian scripts to write the philosophy and reality of life. He explained how these ancient books like Upnishads and Purans are not just myths, those are the philosophy for your life journey. Even the relation between a father and a son, and how can a father thinks about his son when his son is helping him but not getting appreciated for that. This is still the problem between most parents and children, even if their children do something with good intention, parents never understand the clean soul or purpose they just blame and sometimes later regrets it. So to know more about the shades of your own life or to guide yourself with good intentions and philosophy in your life, read this book.

"The chaos we see in society today reflects this chaos within us. If we wish to heal society, we need to heal ourselves. "
The author, through his own experiences of inequality, separation, the death of loved ones, illness, near bankruptcy, suicide and self-harm, and with the guidances of some great books which he has read and annotated, brings out certain points of living a peaceful life without anxiety, depression or chaos and discovering ourselves and our purpose of life.
It has 5 chapters in it
1.Separation, Inequality, and The Drive to Search for Truth 2. Finding Clarity, and the Strength to Follow Your Heart 3. From Separation to Union 4. Acceptance, Silence and Inner Peace 5. Witnessing
This book talked about many useful things, among which the last chapter turned out to be the most highlightable for me. It's when the covid is at its peak and international journeys are at their hardest. The author's father was on his deathbed and he had to pass through so many mentally challenging situations.
The goodness of the book is that the author explains topics with his own experiences. The language is simple. The quotes of some remarkable works are a total plus to this book and I have added a few books like Krishnamurti's 'Book of Life', Kahlil Gibran's 'The Prophet' to my TBR list.

The True Self is a journey of philosophical teaching from ancient wisdom to the modern world. The story is all about the real-life experience of Lokesh Babu, narrated in an understandable way. The journey from being a disturbed teenager to exploring self was truly fascinating. The author has taken special care to narrate his story honestly and intimately. He talks about his losses and lessons, which has helped him gain insights into being and providing shape to his life.
During the pandemic, he visited his ailing father and witnessed different shades of life. This phase was again a series of learning of him. The author has confronted various kinds of discrimination in his life, suffered losses and had difficulty with self-love in his early life but philosophical teaching has played a crucial role in his life and the path has enlightened and helped him in his self-discovery.
I felt like the book was talking to me, I felt some of the things and I resonated with the feeling the author has poured into the book. The historical texts and the teachings of life were simply explained and the wisdom and knowledge shared are unequalled. Across the board, the book is a must-read for everyone. I'm glad I read this book.
