The battle with the horde of necromorphs is lost. Foreston has been overrun by Dark fiends. The foxfolk have been forced to abandon their homes and seek salvation on the far side of Narrow Lake.

Its main city lost, the Order of Monster Hunters finds itself on the brink of destruction. And now deprived of their chief ally, the gnomes are left all alone to take on the army of the Steel King.

Eric’s attempts to halt his foe’s advance have all come to naught ― Alrak the Heartless and the other Dark primordials are simply too powerful.

To cover his friends’ retreat, Eric makes use of forbidden magic, for which the Great System strips him of his rank as magister and declares him an apostate.

In spite of the crushing defeat and grievous wound, Eric’s will is not yet broken. And although he has become a renegade in the eyes of yesterday’s friends and allies, Eric will keep up the fight against Darkness!

5 First Among The Mighty Stars

Renegade is the eighth and final book in the Underdog series by Alexey Osadchuk.

AHHHH! What a perfect ending! This is great place for the series to come to its natural conclusion. Yet, there is still an avenue left open to either continue or branch off in another series of the same world. Revenge plots tied up, check-ins on old friends, conquering great evils sorted.

At first, this book was upsetting but only because his spirit keeper was so terribly annoying and whiny. While this incorporeal being was a great help in his victories and achievements throughout this novel, it took so much effort not to yell during my reading of it... I swear I could hear his voice.

To the catch this glimpse into the other side of the offered powers helped to outline how far Eric would have had to rise in power to truly stand against his enemies. The leagues of differnce in strength and abilities offered by the Darkness compared to the Great System is humbling. Kera was kookie and terrifying to journey with through this tale. Although she is a strong factor in why I cannot entirely conclude this series complete ending. His transition to that of a Knight of The Rift leads one to believe there is still more for him to face within his home world.

I'm disappointed in Pinebogey... I wish we could have experienced Jay's wedding... I wonder whom will be the new keeper of the Heart of the Forest, Hell Raiser, grandfathered by Mee's Bad Seed.... I truly hope there is a spin-off series in this world, it will undoubtedly be terribly interesting to discover.

Renegade (Underdog, #8) by Alexey Osadchuk is an exhilarating addition to the LitRPG genre, further advancing the complex and engaging story of the Underdog series. This installment continues to deliver a perfect blend of action, strategy, and character growth, making it a must-read for fans of the series.

The book follows the protagonist, Eric, as he faces ever-increasing challenges and adversaries in the world of Disgardium. The stakes are higher than ever, and Eric's journey is far from simple. One of the strongest elements of this novel is its ability to develop characters in a believable way while maintaining the fast pace and intricate game mechanics that fans have come to love.

"In this world, the weakest often become the strongest because they have nothing to lose."

This quote captures the essence of Eric's journey in this installment, showing how far he has come from his humble beginnings as an underdog. The theme of rising against impossible odds resonates throughout the novel, making it emotionally compelling.

Strengths of the book:

Character Development: Eric's growth as a protagonist is not just about leveling up in the game. He matures emotionally and strategically, making tough decisions that affect not only him but also those around him.
Game Mechanics: Osadchuk masterfully weaves complex game mechanics into the narrative without overwhelming the reader. The balance between narrative and game rules is superb, providing both excitement and clarity.
World-Building: The immersive world of Disgardium continues to expand in Renegade. New areas, factions, and enemies are introduced, making the universe feel larger and more dynamic.
Pacing: The action is well-paced, with a good mix of combat, dialogue, and strategic planning. There are moments of tension and relief that keep the reader hooked from beginning to end.

Weaknesses:

Repetitive Elements: While the book offers plenty of fresh content, there are moments where certain gameplay aspects or character interactions feel repetitive, which may slow the momentum for some readers.
Cliffhanger Ending: While this is a staple of serialized novels, the ending leaves a few too many questions unanswered. For readers who prefer more resolution at the end of each book, this might be slightly frustrating.

Action: ★★★★☆
Character Dev: ★★★★★
World-Building: ★★★★★
Pacing: ★★★★☆

In conclusion, Renegade is a strong entry in the Underdog series. It expertly balances character growth, exciting action sequences, and intricate world-building. Though it leaves some plot points unresolved, it promises even greater developments in future installments. If you're a fan of LitRPG with a focus on strategy and emotional stakes, this book is a great choice.

I've just finished book 8 in the Underdog series, which means I've read the entire series now and I absolutely loved it. Some nights I could barely put the book down to go to sleep for work in the morning. I'd always say to myself just one more chapter. I enjoyed seeing our main man Eric go from a literal zero to something amazing and very interesting in constantly unexpected ways. Thank you Alexey Osadchuk! Thank you.

Ends on a high

Wow oh wow. This book was a whole journey. It’s hard not to look at how Eric Bergman has grown over the series and not be impressed. He grew stronger, he grew older and he grew much wiser. Just an all round pleasant character and an amazing series of books

I received a review copy of this book.
All I can say is: awesome. Didn't realize this was the conclusion to the series, but what a conclusion. Amazing storytelling in this one folks. If you've read any of the previous books in this series, you certainly won't want to miss the conclusion of it all, absolutely wonderful, though I must admit the epilogue threw me a bit, having been so long since reading the events to which that refers, but still, nothing prevents further adventures in this world, as the author hints in his words to the reader, but if there is another series, I'd certainly love to read them. Glad I got to read this one.

This series is truly a mixed bag.

On the one hand i loved the story how the weakest of the weak struggles against impossible seeming odds, some twists and would give the series 4,5 stars. On the other a truly horrible translator with only rudimentary knowledge of English (permanently mixed times, half sentences, made up phrases that ruined my reading experience throughout the ENTIRE series) and a too trusting and often stupidly generous MC. Given the shortness of the books the price of the single books is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!

Therefore only 2 stars.

Fitting End to a great series. As much as I want to keep reading about Eric"s adventures, but I'm happy that the series didn't go to 20 books like Eric Ugland's books.
This book lost 2 stars for the disjointed time flow. When Erick crossed over to Mink's world and returned to his home world it was mere seconds, while he spent 6 or more months there. That was the reason he was heartbroken thinking she has perished and 100s of years have passed, but miraculously only 2 years had passed since his return.

Veľmi zbytočná kniha...teda okrem uzavretia príbehu a že už bolo načase. Ničím ma neobohatila, dookola ten istý koncept = viac nepriateľov, väčšia moc, väčšie ničím nepodložené sebavedomie. Neskutočná znalosť a predvídavosť hlavného hrdinu. Matematicky nereálne vyvažovanie schopností. Hoci som si už zvykol na "všemocnosť", i tak po ôsmich knihách prekvapí ten prístup "kam ich všetkých my traja pochováme".

book eight

And sadly the series comes to an end. I have gotten an ARC of every book in this series to check for translation errors. I always looked forward to the books and will miss reading more.
I do hope that the author returns to this universe with more adventures at some point.

Overall a great series and one of my favorites.

Great series and great finale

I really enjoyed reading this series and the final installment was in no way disappointing. I really appreciate the MC. He was pragmatic, cynical, willing to act decisively and ruthlessly when needed but still capable of compassion.

I’m sad it’s over, but very glad the author didn’t drag it out. Much better to end on a high note.

I wonder if this is the end of the series?
The protagonist uses darkness to defeat darkness in this book.

It was a little edgy (like normal), but I think it was on par with the first few books in regards to interest.

If this is the end, it was fun.

It's finally here.

A good ending to the series as is, while also leaving the possibility of more to come in the world of the great system.

My only complaint is the author used the phrase, “As an aside” a lot! Lol. Jk
Finished 8 books, the entire series in a week and it was just packed with pure adrenaline action!
