Sometimes love alone isn't enough

We find Russ and Steven 7-months into their relationship and even more in love, if that is even possible. They're preparing to celebrate their first Christmas together...but they aren't going to be alone...they are expecting family...something neither of them ever thought they would have. Russ's father, his sister, and her boyfriend are coming to Atlanta from Jacksonville to spend the holiday with them. It will be the family's first-time meeting Steven, so Russ wants everything to be absolutely perfect. Russ is going to personally, with his own two hands, cook the whole dinner...even though he has never done this before. I expected some problems...burned turkey...lumpy potatoes... but I was proud of Russ and pleasantly surprised.

Things haven't been good for Russ's family in the recent past. Russ's Dad hadn't had much contact with Russ's sister who was raised by an aunt after their mother left. The aunt has done everything possible to convince her that Russ, or any other man, is "evil' and corrupt" for chooseing to be gay. His Dad has been mostly "lost" to everything around him after the wreck his marriage had become...so this Christmas with what is left of his family...together at last...is more than just important to him...it's everything. He also wants the family to accept, and like Steven, as he is his absolute "everything"...the MOST IMORTANT person ever, to him.

I was afraid that it was going to be hard for Russ and Stephen to find their balance and trust, but they supported one another with love and understanding, even when being faced by an unexpected visit by Stephen's ex and other small hurdles that life thought would be fun to throw their way.

I really like Brigham Vaughn's writing style, and how her characters are realistic without being boring or having too much drama. I'm looking forward to more of Russ and Stephen and all the friends that are being introduced in each book of the series. One thing that I believe I've learned about this series in particular, is that it appears that the stories are giving closures...views to how things that happened to the same characters from the related series turned out. Each book has the familiar characters, but we learn so much more about them and the "whys" and "how's" of their actions. Clever idea. I've never seen it done before, but Brigham Vaughn does a remarkable job of giving her "print people" the endings they deserve. I'm so glad that I bought this series. I almost didn't because it looked, and the description read so much like the series before it.

Russ and Stephen are back! This is the second book in the Peachtree series and combines what was originally the 3rd and 4th story of the series into one book. You definitely need to have read the first book before this one, as this is a continuation and picks up after the end of the 1st book.

Now that Russ and Stephen have really found a balance with their differences - financially and age-gap, the two continue to deepen their relationship through this book. They're pretty settled, but now have to deal with Stephen's ex-boyfriend, settling the past for them both, and the question of marriage that suddenly appeals to Russ.

I love these two in this book so much. They're so much more on the same page of things, and I love reading about established couples in the "what's next" part after the initial HEA. Russ and Stephen have such great chemistry and love together, and I love them continuing to build on that after the first book.

Now I need to go re-read Evan and Jeremy's story, which is a spin-off from this series. And I'm SO SO happy to know that the 3rd book - which is entirely NEW - is coming this fall!

For fans of age gap romance, with great characters and family matters, I definitely recommend this series. It's one of my favorites written from this author.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This new book is a great continuation of Russ and Stephen’s journey as they build their relationship together, but that doesn't mean that some of the same old insecurities don't continue to rise up, especially when Russ asks Stephen to marry him. As if that isn't enough stress, someone who had a lot to do with the way Stephen approached his relationship with Russ in the early days is back in Stephen's life. Stephen isn't the only one facing his past either as Russ decides to track down the mother who left him so many years ago. Evan, the kid we met in the previous book and Jeremy, Stephen’s ex appear in this book and give some substance to Russ and Stephen’s romance.

The Final Goal is Love!

Couple Russ & Stephen faces an unexpected guest, an unexpected Ex, and orchestrated meeting with the past while trying to cement their future together. Well detailed storytelling, although a bit melodramatic. Same likable MCs and co-characters as in Book 1. Overall, a good read. On to Book 3 or maybe on to Evan’s story?!

Continues

This is a continuation of the first book I recommend reading the first book before you read this book. The story is about the two man deepening their relationship. About what it takes to really be in a relationship. About falling in love, and what being committed really looks like. The writing was great the smexy was hawt and need to read Ethen and Jeremy’s story

Good sequel

I’d never read this part of the original series and it’s a lovely HEA. No angst, minor stupidity on Stephen’s part. A little predictable but enjoyable.

As with the release of Off-Balance, I wasn't going to read Love in the Balance right now either because I'm so far behind on my 2020 reading list BUT once I read Off-Balance I couldn't deny reading the second installment either.

Russ and Stephen are just as yummy as they were 5 years ago(Holy Hannah Batman has it been 5 years since I finished their journey?). There is just so much goodness in this pair that makes them not only fun to read but realistic too. Considering the area I live in I doubt I'd meet them next door but I certainly feel like I could meet them for lunch at the local restaurant or pumping gas and I always love having that possible connection to a book character, it just helps me fall that much harder.

Now, if you are new to Peachtree and hadn't read Brigham Vaughn's original released Equals series, this is a journey that must be read in order. If you are like me and read Equals before, trust me you'll love Russ & Stephen even more the second time around.

Original Editions Review:
Family #3
Original Review April 2015:
This was a perfect addition to the Equals series and the love story of Russ and Stephen. I've been wondering about that box that Miss Esther gave Stephen from his father's things. I loved finally getting to meet Russ' family too. I won't lie, there was some dread I was fearing when faced with Addison meeting Stephen considering the way their aunt had raised her but it worked out even better than I expected. Such a lovely and beautifully written Christmas story. I look forward to more of Russ and Stephen, hint, hint Miss Vaughn.

Husbands #4
Original Review April 2015:
I don't even know where to begin. Russ and Stephen had me from their first spilled coffee and being able to see their relationship grow, mature, and evolve has been a joy and has earned a prominent spot in my personal library. Brigham Vaughn has a way with the written word, she conveys so much emotion and detail with a relatively limited number of words. I'll admit that there are moments that I would sit and imagine what was going on between the pages, yes they would have added to the story but truth is that there is nothing lacking from Russ and Stephen's story without those moments. Sometimes, readers need to read certain points and others you just need to imagine and for me, Miss Vaughn has given us a perfect blend of visual and imagined nuggets.

Husbands is a perfect conclusion to this couple's tale, I can't say "ending" because that elicits too much sadness but it definitely wraps this romance up in a neat little bow. Now, having said that, it's not a sugary sweet, no problems kind of ride, the bumps are there and one bump is Jeremy, Stephen's ex. I was glad that we finally got to meet Jeremy and his part is not the cliche "ex wants back in". Calling Jeremy a "bump" is not giving him the credit he deserves on my part but there are some tense moments, even if it's mostly inner monologue. Yep, if you have been following Russ and Stephen's story, you just can't miss Husbands. And if you haven't read the Equals series, well, what are you doing sitting here reading my review, check it out because you won't regret it. I can't wait to see what the mind of Brigham Vaughn brings next.

Christmas is a joyful and carefree time for some, but for others it is a time of nervous preparation, uncertainty, reconciliation and rebuilding close relationships. This year, Russ and Stephen are in this latter group of people, as they spend this special time with Russ's family, who are far from perfect but work really hard to change for the better and be close to one another once again.
Meanwhile, Russ and Stephen's relationship blooms and grows stronger and stronger. Men know that they want to be together, that only when they are close they feel like being whole. There is a way to bring them even closer. But are they both ready to take the big step forward and turn from lovers into spouses?

"Love in the Balance" is the second volume in "Peachtree" series by Brigham Vaughn. As in the case of the previous part, this one also consists of two novellas published for the first time a few years ago, "Family" and "Husbands", which have been enriched with new chapters filling the time gap between these installments of the series. Like "Off-Balance", "Love in the Balance" has a structure that is quite characteristic in my opinion, as it is based on the interweaving of faster, more emotional action with slower, calmer one. This makes the structure of the novel very real and it resembles the everyday life of an average person. I admit that I like it very much, because the believability of the pace of the story presented also affects the believability of the characters. I have read few novels with a similar structure, so it is unquestionably an advantage worth mentioning and keeping in mind.

The main theme of the first part of the novel is the family and I must admit that I really like the way the author presents and approaches this topic. First of all, the author emphasizes the fact that although Russ's family is not perfect and needs to be rebuilt after their past problems, it is reliable and all family members can draw strength from their bond. Moreover, the character of Russ's dad is in stark contrast to the late Stephen's father. As a result, the novel emphasizes what is good in family relationships, what is worth sticking to and what should be forgotten. It is also worth adding that in the subject of family, the author decided to surprise us with new revelations about Stephen's relatives. I believe that emotionally and mentally this is of great importance both to Stephen and to the whole story presented in "Love in the Balance".

Another topic that I want to and must mention reviewing this novel is marriage, which is the central theme of the second part of this volume. In "Love in the Balance" I really liked the fact that for the main characters, and above all for Stephen, marriage was not a goal of his life. In fact, he had been sure that he did not need it at all and only with time and thanks to the right person he discovers that this is indeed what he truly needs. While both Russ and Stephen know from the start what they want in terms of their career, emotionally they needed and still need each other to understand the desires they are not aware of. I like it very much, because this is how not only the relationship of the characters is built and strengthened, but also has a big impact on their creation. The reader can see how lost Russ and Stephen were and still are, and having each other they slowly find their way to a happy future.

In conclusion, "Love in the Balance" is a really good novel that is as addictive as the previous book about Russ and Stephen's love adventures. The reader can't put this story down, falls in love with the characters even deeper than before and definitely does not want to say goodbye to this amazing couple. "Love in the Balance" is undoubtedly a novel worth recommending.

„Love in the Balance” to drugi tom serii „Peachtree” autorstwa Brigham Vaughn.

Podsumowując, „Love in the Balance” to naprawdę dobra powieść, która uzależnia równie silnie, co poprzedni tom miłosnych przygód Russa i Stephena. Czytelnik nie potrafi oderwać się od tej historii, zakochuje się w bohaterach jeszcze bardziej i zdecydowanie nie chce żegnać się z tą niesamowitą parą. „Love in the Balance” to bezsprzecznie powieść godna polecenia.

Russ Bishop and Stephen Parker are in love. They’ve settled into their relationship and are both happy. Russ’ dad and sister are coming up for Christmas and Stephen is not sure how it will go. His dad is only 11 years older than Stephen, and his dad’s brother had died of AIDS. Regardless, Alan seemed supportive since he wants Russ to be happy. Russ’ sister had been raised by a conservative Baptist aunt who taught her all gay men are headed straight to hell, so they were not sure how that meeting would go. But Russ wants a relationship with her and Stephen is willing to do whatever it takes to get that for him.

At the office party, listening to Peter, his co-worker, talk about his Christmas plans, trying to juggle ex-spouses, children, and all that stuff so no one gets offended, Stephen was glad to be gay since he didn’t have to navigate the pitfalls of marriage, divorce, and children.

Ever since Stephen’s dad died, Russ has been thinking about family. He wants a better relationship with his dad and sister. He wants them to see him as an adult now and in a good relationship. But Russ also wants more than what they have now; he wants forever with Stephen. To him, forever is a committed marriage, but for Stephen that has never been an option for his consideration. With marriage equality not recognized in Georgia, he sees no point in wanting what he can't have. And when Stephen’s ex re-appears in his life, Stephen and Russ will have to decide once and for all if they’re ready to commit to a lifetime together.

This was such a good book with so much going on. It seemed that everyone had some sort of issue to deal with, but it was handled well and led to clarity and acceptance most of the time. I liked the characters, some more than others, but enough to care about them all. Grab your copy and see how it all works out when each one deals with their issues and find an acceptable course of action.

Not a standalone. This is the 2nd book and continued story of the same couple Russ and Stephen. The first book should be read first. I love this couple so much. They have great chemistry and I was eager to read their continued love story. They seemed much more comfortable in their relationship im this book and it was great to read how they were together. So sweet!

This book starts off at Christmas. Russ's family comes down to visit. While I'm not a fan of Christmas stories, especially reading this in the summer, it was a good excuse to bring everyone together and it was just for the first 30%. I'm glad Russ was trying to have a better relationship with his family. Though the sister was a little obnoxious at first. Hard to believe one could be an adult and a nurse nonelesss and still be that ignorant about homosexuality. Even with her upbringing I was hoping she would have changed and made more of a effort around her brother. He was more understanding than she deserved IMO. Then Evan who made a brief appearance in the first book comes to stay with them for a very brief period. I liked his character and Im glad that they took him in but im also glad it was brief so they were able to get back to being a couple. From there lots happens a reunion with the ex, a family reunion and something that adds a bit of drama to the end. It definitely made me want to keep reading. Though I personally was not a fan of the drama at the end and thats why this wasn't a 5 star for me like the first book was. Though the ending almost made up for it.

Overall, great plot (I can never put Vaughns books down), great character development and very well written. There are lots of 🔥 moments too for those that look for that.

For a brief moment in time, I had forgotten Off-Balance was the beginning of a series. How could I, you ask? I don’t know! It sounds crazy even to me. Once that was corrected, I was dying to get my hands on this book. I fell absolutely in love with Stephen and Russ. To get to spend more time with them, without simply re-reading the book, is a gift. It’s one I’d never turn down!

In this book, we find them about seven months into their relationship. They’re more settled and are just as taken with each other as they were where we last left them. It’s Christmas time, and for once they’re feeling jolly because they have each other. I felt like it set the tone for the book.

They are still the flawed men we know them to be, but their relationship is solid. Which is a good thing, because life is about to get interesting. Their relationship will be tested by family, misunderstandings, marriage proposals, exes, insecurities, work, and jealousy, just to name a few. We get to witness how they handle these things, and whether their love is strong enough to handle it.

Once again, I am blown away by the writing. The storyline held up in this followup to Off-Balance. There were no out of place events or random personality changes  The trajectory of our beloved couple is still on solid ground and makes sense to the men we know them to be. The consistency is gladly appreciated. I would have to share some words with Brigham Vaughn otherwise. No one is ruining the story for Stephen and Russ.

I am really looking forward to book three, and also reading about Evan and Jeremy’s story. The idea of them, possibly together, has a lot of potential, and I’m intrigued.

This is the second installment in the story of Russ and Stephen. It begins with them in a place of stability and security— they’ve dealt, for the most part, with their primary issues, including a significant age gap, Russ’s stubbornness, and Stephen’s controlling nature. They’re good, as individuals and as a unit, right up until the moment that they aren’t. A lot happens in this book: a family reconciliation, a reunion with an ex, a reunion with a long-lost parent, work stress, the all-but-adoption of a young man who’d been persecuted for his sexuality. Surprisingly, it’s none of these things that causes the big ‘moment of despair’ in the novel— I’ll leave this vague because spoilers suck, but it won’t be what you’re expecting. Which, of course, just makes it hit that much harder.

I’m impressed with the author’s ability to create compelling characters. Russ is awesome— strong, caring, not afraid to make himself vulnerable. Stephen is harder for me to like. He can be controlling, preachy, and just this side of sanctimonious, and while he pays lip service to treating his younger partner as an equal, he often falls short of doing so in practice. This is fine for their sexual relationship: they both like it it this way (and the sex scenes are hot) but in the rest of their lives it’s more jarring, and frustrating, to see. Overall, however, it’s a well-written book and a compelling read. I highly recommend it.

Russ and Stephen are back again and still have the same issues. Stephen is phenomenally high handed and rather me me me and despite Russ offering love and support acts like he has the worst problems ever created. Russ is reeling when Stephen rejects happy ever after with him and wonders if this is the end for them both. The love between the two of them is undeniable but when an ex turns up will what they have be enough to see them through. Russ got some long awaited questions answered but it isn't quite what he wanted to hear but Stephen is very supportive and loving to him. Deep seated turmoil is still torturing Stephen but after a surprise meeting he feels better about himself and he certainly is lighter and Russ feels all those benefits. Stephen is still woe is me and it gets slightly tiring reading about his pain like no one else compares, I really feel for him and want to give him the biggest hug but he needs to honour Russ when he says he wants space and not just going chasing him. The relationship itself comes on leaps and bounds and I am so proud of them both for figuring it out and not letting the past rule their present. Russ has really grown within this time and makes some very mature choices, Stephen has so much love to give but he needs to funnel it in the right direction.

This book is phenomenal and I absolutely loved it! The continuation of Russ and Stephen's journey, this book is amazingly wonderful. They decide to have Russ's family over for Christmas and his sister Addie, brings her new boyfriend. This initially causes some friction but soon, Joseph is just like one of the family. Stephen will encounter his ex, Jeremy, and will finally get the chance to get some closure and learn the truth about Jeremy's feelings after the accident. Russ will jump in to help Evan, the young man they met in Putnam when they went for the funeral for Stephen's father. This will lead them to want to do more to help kids that don't have the support Russ did. A marriage proposal will cause some problems between Russ and Stephen but in the end, it will be Jeremy that finally makes Stephen realize just how afraid he is. This will bring Russ and Stephen back together and start them on their journey to forever with a wonderful wedding.

Spoilers!!

Russ and Stephen continue their love story and navigate family and surprises, as well as helping friends. The realism and the fact that their story continues after they become a serious couple is what continues to draw me to this series. Their friendships and the interconnection of their family and their friends who become family.

The surprise of Russ’ sister (Addie’s) boyfriend at Christmas actually ends up helping Addie accept Russ and Stephen more. We learn more about the characters of Evan and Jeremy and have their story to look forward to!

The true feelings, ups and downs, fights and makeups, and really hot sex scenes make this book so real and enjoyable. I cannot stress enough how much I love seeing their relationship evolve past the initial couple stage. I love books that show couples navigating marriage.

Strongly recommend this book and the entire series. I love all of her books.

Love in the Balance is a fun romance. In book one, Off Balance, everything starts with a spilt coffee. And from there, this Brigham Vaughn series just gets better.

Now a couple, we get to revisit Russ and Stephen as they deal with some of their family issues. We get to see them through some good times, some bad times, and everyday life, all of which are important to their character growth.

This tale has a strong emphasis on their work and balancing work with life. They have differences that need to be worked out between them. They are in different age groups and have a large financial disparity. They also have to deal with an ex and getting some answers about their pasts. In other words, the title is perfect, as they learn to balance everything.

And, damn, these two are hot together, including some steamy phone sex.

Written in alternating 3rd person pov, the writing is great as usual. I love the characters and the sweet storyline.

Love in the Balance is a delightful romance. This Brigham Vaughn book (and series) is well worth a read.

4 and 1/2 stars here <3

Here we follow Stephen and Russ as they navigate on making their relationship stronger. On the previous book, Stephen had a lot to deal and to learn, and it's no different in here. Add to that a former lover to the scenario and we have Stephen and Russ dealing with even more, while trying to move foward and leave the past where it belongs. Brigham wrote a good story, it flows and grabs your attention. My only problem is (still) how Stephen behaves sometimes, so stuck in what ifs/what was that It seems he does not want his life moving... He is a strong person, that went through a lot and it has clearly grown throught it all, and yet, in a par moments behave almost as a brat. Russ has his flaws as well, sometimes acting childlich as well, and that's why they match and always find a way to make it happen. Curious to see how the author will finish their story (the book does have a HEA, but with a warning that the final book is coming)

This is book two in the Peachtree series and it is a very good read. Book one is 'Off Balance' and should be read before this story as 'Love in the Balance' is a continuation.
Russ and Stephen are now and established couple and very much in love. However, before they can go forward they really need to deal with their pasts. Stephen began this in 'Off Balance' but he still has a lot to face and Russ now begins his journey too.
The book is very much a love story and at just a few points I thought that it was bordering on being saccharine but I will definitely forgive this. The story is good and the writing is excellent.
I'm very happy to see that the third book in the series is on its way. I will definitely be reading it and I have no hesitation at all in recommending 'Love in the Balance.'
I was given a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Chemistry and passion so strong!!
Russ Bishop and Stephen Parker are and totally in love. These boys stole my heart in the first book. And now as they are together in a relationship they find out that its not always smooth running. There are problems that a rise and family to overcome and ex who rise their heads again. But will they work together or will it all be too much?
Please please read the first book to get Russ and Stephen story of how they met and the journey they went on and then you can find out if they sail off into the sunset together or not.
WOOOOHOOOO WHAT A BRILLIANT READ. I HDNT REALISED IT WAS GOING TO BE A 2 BOOK SERIES BUT IT WAS JUST A FANTASTIC READ. I REALLY LIKED RUSS AND STEPHEN AND ALTHOUGH I WENT THROUGH MOST EMOTIONS WHILST READING THIS BOOK IT WAS JUST BRILLIANT

Love and Balance is a continuing series of an established couple, and reading book one is truly a necessity.

Finally, these two guys have found their happiness. Russ and Stephen both worked hard to get where they are in their journey. Just one more hiccup, Russ wants marriage and Stephen, not so much.
What better way to express your forever with the love of your life? That is until the ex performs a mission creep back into Stephen's life. Time to deal with the ghosts of the past before their love and continue to blossom into the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed the continuing story of Russ and Stephen. Now, let's keep this fabulous series going.

Russ and Stephen are back and just as wonderful together as they are in the first book. This is a continuation of their love story (so definitely read book 1 first) and whilst it gives them a few more struggles, it also reaffirms the strength of their love for one another. Russ and Stephen have such a solid relationship and they have finally found the balance in their relationship. The age and financial issues from the first book have been settled and this time, they're looking at the re-appearance of an ex, and the question of marriage! I liked the communication between the MCs, and the support they have for each other. It's always nice when we get to revisit an established couple and get even more on their HEA. Eagerly awaiting the third book in the series!

Stephen and Russ's relationship has continued and they are settling in well to living together. But things are about to change again.
With both of them busy at work and then having Russ's family visiting Atlanta for Christmas, then having an unexpected house guest, they are not getting much "QUALITY" time together. What else could happen, well for one thing a chance meeting with Jeremy ..makes Russ feel insecure in their relationship.
This is the second installment of Stephen and Russ's story but in no way is it second class. I loved every moment of this sequel, and although I have given hints, there is so much more for you to read.

I appreciated the journey that these characters went through in this book. When I read a series that features the same couple, I look for continued growth in the stories. Sometimes, there's the unfortunate occurrence in series that follow the same couple where their growth ,both individually and as couple, hit a plateau. This was not the case here. It was evident that both men still had a lot of character development left within their individual stories and so too with their story as a couple. I loved what Brigham Vaughn does with her writing because she has a way of making the magic of realistic experiences really come alive. This was a great read. I say that a lot, but it's the truth. Read it and find out that I'm right. :)

This is the second book in the Peachtree series and the first book that I have read in this series. This story is well written and easy to read. There is nothing wrong with this book; the story just didn't grab me. I wasn't invested in the characters. The trials and tribulations that they went through just didn't have an impact.

I read the Midwest series and I loved them. I was totally engrossed in the characters and the story. That just didn't happen for me in this book.

It is a well written book and easy to read.

This is book two for Russ and Stephen in the Peachtree Series. Russ asks Stephen to marry him and he says no. That causes all kinds of problems for both of them as Russ deals with feelings of rejection, jealousy of Stephen's old boyfriend, and being busy from work. Stephen doesn't think they need to get married to be committed to each other until he fully understands how Russ feels. The love both have for each other keeps them together for a beautiful future. I am looking forward to the next chapter of Russ and Stephen's lives together.
