Written by a licensed professional counselor with personal experience, this devotional combines the power of the gospel with proven coping strategies to offer healing to those battling depression and anxiety. Draw closer to him and let hope color your world again.
Having depression or anxiety is not an indicator that a person doesn't understand God. This book should come with a warning label because it contains toxic nonsense that could cause serious harm.
I am all about devotionals that you not only read but do. The Bring It To Life section at the end of each devotion offers creative ways to allow what you read about His Name to align with your heart. I found as I journaled through these exercises, I would get a rhema word from the Lord. I removed one star from this devotional because of the author’s statement that dark thoughts and feelings lose their grip when we understand God. While her statement is true, I feel that it is too simplified and more explanation should be given to the real struggle of anxiety and depression. I have found the root of anxiety and depression is not so black and white. We are created with 3 parts: body, soul, spirit; therefore, the root cause of anxiety and/or depression can sometimes be physical, phycological, or spiritual. It is also possible that the root could be a combination of 2 or more parts. This book primarily addresses a psychological root when our thinking patterns need to be examined, and strongholds torn down. When we can identify the lies we believe about ourselves, God, or others, we can replace it with the truth about who God says he is and we are and healing happens. When the root is spiritual, spirits may need to be addressed. When the root is primarily physical, medication may be beneficial.
My aunt gave me this book, she said someone gave it to her and so she gave it to me. I didn’t think I needed it, I still don’t, it was ok. I feel, perhaps, it would be a good book for those struggling with severe depression.
