4.5 stars. To give you a little introduction… In Lionel’s opinion Lucifer talks with the effect of verbal Viagra, I choked on it, imagine this, so funny.
Lucifer, the Devil himself, insists his necromancer Lionel calls him his Boyfriend, and everyone has to know it! It’s something Lionel can’t get out of his mouth willingly. He knows one day Lucifer will be bored with him, that’s where Lionel will be left alone. To save him from this heartache he’s trying desperately to keep Lucy away from getting too close. He will be strong, he has to, he’s just a toy to the Devil. Little does this little human know. You have to understand Lionel was abandoned when he was a child, no one ever loved him.
Lionel is challenging Lucifer where possible, even he isn’t always aware of it.
“Maybe I should drop him in the lake, see if the icy water restored him to factory settings.“
Between all the banter and possessiveness, there’s also a case to solve, corpses are found and they can’t be reanimated by Nelly. Who is behind this? Where Lucifer has a sharp view, Nelly is oblivious about the core of it all.
Everyone who approached his Nelly, human or whoever, Lucifer is in attack mode. It was so adorable. Lucy is manipulative af, ‘no’ isn’t in his vocabulary, he gets what he wants, poor Nelly never stands a chance. The author has an amazing captivating, humorous writing style, I love it very much. It’s smooth, fun, strong. There are a few repetitive things, but who cares when everything else is awesome! There is a tiny bit of angst, good to handle, it’s more about the big picture without getting too deep into details. Everything about Lucifer and Lionel was detailed, thank you very much. It was an awesome story, scorching moments, everything was very enjoyable! Lucifer is my favorite, Lionel’s second-best, Soul ahhh, there are more extraordinary secondary characters. It’s not over yet, at the end we meet someone and it’s not clear what will happen next. Very excited for the continuation!
Steamier than book 1 with a lot of Lucy and Nelly time. Lionel is starting to open up to Lucifer and admit he has feelings for him. His background is also explained and this moves the plot on. A lot of this is setting the scenes for the next installment. Told in dual pov and ends with a mild cliffhanger
Loved, loved, loved Lucifer and Lionel!! Nellie is a necromancer, he tries to deny himself how he wants Lucifer. Lucifer insists that Nellie call him boyfriend. I loved how the author set us up for the next story! Overall, a really good read! The story was really well written and kept me engaged, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend.
I FREAKING LOVE AND ADORE LUCY AND NELLY!! I love seeing their relationship deepen and how these two interact with each other! These two honestly make me laugh at times, but they also have such beautiful moments together! Enjoyed the whole read!
I enjoy this series a lot. I love how Lucifer prefers to be called Lucy and his Hellhound is a poodle. Lucy is trying everything short of real force to get Lionel to believe that they truly belong together while also helping to figure out this latest mystery. It does annoy me at times that Lionel is so stubborn and is slow to see the good things right in front of him. Be aware that this book ends on a cliff hanger and, while book 1 doesn't, it should still be read first. I am so looking forward to book 3.
**I received an ARC from the author and this is my unbiased opinion**
I adore this series and genuinely can’t wait to reread it. Nelly and Lucy are so funny and the way they mesh together is delightful. The secondary characters are fantastic (yay for strong, lovely, snarky female characters) and the subplot keeps you hooked.
I cannot overstate how much you should read this series! Awesomeness in three books!
I love those series. The characters develop so beautifully over those course of the books and there is a plot that seems to expand across several books. I love!
I love Nellie and Lucy. They are a wonderful couple. Nellie makes you want to love him even though he is so stubborn. He has trust issues but Lucy is sure he can tame his Necromancer boyfriend. Lucy loves being in control and Nellie is just the challenge he needs. Any book that can make me laugh and cry out loud is one I would recommend and this one did both.
I want to give this zero stars because of the cliff hanger but that review would be a lie. Really love this book and these characters. Lucy just gets more endearing Lionel just keeps getting deeper and more real. NEED MORE NOW!!!!! Highly recommend this series!
This book is funny/witty. I love how Lucy is always doing things to help heal Nelly and make him feel safe and cared for. Plus, they're so freaking hot together, and they're so sweet. Nelly is finally learning to trust a little. I love them. It's so cool how Nelly is coming into his own power. I can't wait to start the next book!
In this book there is still some dubcon, but Nelly's protests feel half hearted. He protests, but the author illustrates his internal conflict with really liking Lucy's dominance. You can see this series slanting towards BDSM.
Nelly is back at work, and now there are corpses showing up that can't be raised. It's like they are vacant shells, their souls sucked right out. It's perplexing for the necromancer. And to make his life more complicated Marc Deacon, technically his first boyfriend who took his virginity, shows up to be "trained" by Nelly.
Lucy is not happy about this. And extracts a promise (in the form of a deal) from Nelly to tell everyone Lucy is his boyfriend. Meanwhile Nelly is confused, because he's convinced Lucy can't be serious about their relationship and is waiting for the other shoe to drop, when Lucy gets annoyed with him and decides he's not worth the trouble.
This does end on a cliffhanger, but the next book is readily available.
‘I heard him make his primal Devil noises, nothing that I could describe fully or sufficiently. Like the earth calling the rain, maybe, or like steam from a geyser, wanting to be water again.’
Lionel ‘Nelly’ is starting to come to terms with the fact that Lucifer ‘Lucy’ has him pegged for the slot of significant other, in Alexa Piper’s The Devil’s Boyfriend.
This 2nd book in the Hellbound series starts to show why Nelly is balking at an emotional relationship, and emotional relationship. But Lucy is a determined Devil. He knows what he wants, and who.
I love the way this romantic entanglement draws the reader in, hoping that the ‘boyfriend’ status helps to bond these two luscious creatures together.
Alexa Piper has me binge reading, so I can get caught up with the latest book in this wonderful series!
I found the conceit of a necromancer being involved with the devil in the Hellbound series by Alexa Piper entertaining. One of the things I liked most about The Devil’s Boyfriend is the further exposition of magic, both the devil’s and Lionel’s. Some of the description was quite lovely and evocative. It was fun to watch Lionel realize the evolution of his relationship with Lucy. Lionel using his necromancy to solve cases is fascinating and provides the framework for the books. I especially like the secondary characters of Lionel’s boss Christine and the dragon mother Tiamat. However, in this book there is a cliffhanger, so be warned. I received a free copy of this book from Changeling Press and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The way Lionel and Lucy interact with each other and have humorous parts and they have beautiful moments together that make their life seem so perfect.
Lionel is using his magic to be able to solve murders.
He finds out some things about his parents, he's wonders whether he was better off not knowing, knowingthis information explains some things.
There's more banter from Lionel and possessiveness from Lucy which gives the story perfect balance.
Added to this story is Lionel’s boss Christine, and also the dragon mother comes to visit Lionel and Lucy and her very freeing ways, lol.
I would love this book but the abusive relationship is freaking me out a lot !! Lucifer is so controlling ! He watches Lionel all the time, forbids him going out of the house. He drives him to work and demands that Lionel waits for him to fetch him after work. And the Dragon Mother validates Lucifer's behavior and punishes him when Lionel gets away. Very disturbing ! The sex scenes are very hot, though ! Finally, Lucifer's personality is so not "develish" ! He is not mean or cruel or demonic at all ! He is just a guy who is way too intense in his relationship !
Wow what a fantastic second book This is a fantastic Second book that is full of twists and turns and is action packed. Lucifer aka Lucy is so protective of Lionel now after what happened in the first book. I just thoroughly enjoyed the connection that these two have. But I need book three now

I so adore Nelly and Lucy! I just love this series so much that I was ecstatic that the second story was out. And the Devil's Boyfriend didn't disappoint one bit. Alexa Piper is one of my favorite authors! Love her and her works!

This series is so fun and squishy and also gross(I mean... necromancy and dead bodies, so of course). The characters are all fabulous and I love the amazing Trony who can handle everything as long as you don't get her floors dirty!
I am so invested in this story. It just keeps getting better and better. I love how the author keeps me guessing on what's going to happen next. Excited for the next book in the series.
Lucy and Nelly are a beautiful disaster. Lionel is still recovering from his traumatic experience in the first book, and Lucifer is determined to help him through it whether Lionel wants help or not. Lucifer is also determined to make sure Lionel understands that he belongs with Lucifer, regardless of whether Lionel believes it.
The story continues explore their relationship, and a mystery surrounding Lionel's past in between steamy scenes that are worth reading twice. This was an entertaining read that covers some serious subjects, but is also filled with fun. I recommend this series if you are having a tough week and need a break from the frustrating bits of life. Who doesn't want to read a book about dragons and necromancers and angels and Greek mythology...
