Rate this book
A bold man. A frightening conspiracy. Humanity’s future in the balance…Captain Jerome Jansen is ready for retirement as an airline pilot. Eager to put his passion project front and center, the science aficionado stands at the brink of a stunning breakthrough in his research on zero-point energy. But with greedy international agencies intent on misusing his findings, he vows to guard his priceless information to his last breath.

Piloting one final commercial flight, Captain Jansen anticipates the worst when the plane is suddenly struck by lightning and flooded by a strange low vibration. And when some of the survivors return to lives out of tune, the selfless hero and all his hard work might be music lost to the world for all time.

Will these history-altering efforts perish, or will the notes of humanity be forever transformed?

In this provocative story about the intensity of life, Pat Caron takes readers on a fascinating journey that starts with a thriller before evolving into a philosophical look into how music connects with the way people move through this world. Through elements of time travel, modern events, and feel-good poeticism, you’ll experience a narrative symphony in three movements.

Vibrato is the riveting first science fiction book in the Celidor mystery series. If you like high-octane thrills, exploring the intensity of human existence,,metaphysics and philosophy, and stories embedded in recent history, then you’ll love this thought- provoking tale.

The book touched on "free energy" which is inspired by Tesla's ideas on such a form of technology. Many theories and myths surround the realm of this field that some researchers/scientists who haven't figured it out completely consider it "pseudo" science. In the story, an airline pilot took an interest this area and unwittingly bestows it to four passengers who were travelling with him on the same flight through a chip that transmits energy. The presentation of the mechanics of free energy was not treated scientifically by the writer and was not explained cohesively in depth and detail. The author made a spin of the phenomena and came out convincingly vague. I received a copy of this book via VRO in exchange for a review.

After the first couple of chapters the book flows much better, though on reflection I see the premise was to give some back story. The story touches on Tesla’s free energy, some time travel and the no ‘co-only-dinks’ in life phenomenon; these are all aspects I really enjoy. I was left hanging at the end of the book though as the group of four are vaguely mentioned, but perhaps there’s a part 2. It’s a good read I do wonder if the writer has an academic background given the articulation (again I like, being one too) as I found certain subject matter researched enough but not cumbersome in its delivery. Review given as part of VR.

CW: Science, Science fiction, Disaster (plane crash), musical

This book was a bit out of the box for me, I love sci fi but I think this was a step ahead of me. I was really thrown by the musical talk too, tbh I really wondered how a 'musical novel' would present, unfortunately it just didn't work for me. I really wanted to like it, reading other reviews it defintely looked like something I would enjoy, but it just wasn't. I read this as an epub and honestly it didn't translate well into Google books, so that probably didn't help either.
Full transparency I received this book via VRO, my opinion is my own. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I had read the French version of this very special novel first, and I was curious to see how it would sound in English. Well, either I have forgotten the French version in the meantime, or the English version is even better than the French one. It flows or should I say sounds very smoothly, and some of the details, which I must have missed in French, make a lot of sense now, maybe just because it is the second time I read it. The contents, with its thrilling, mysterious, philosophical, musical and humoristic features, are still of course just as enjoyable.

(I received a complimentary review copy of this novel from the author via Voracious Readers Only)

This novel captured my attention at the beginning and right at the end, but there was a lull in the third act which lost me a bit. If you enjoy philosophical discussions about life and music then I would recommend this book, but I was expecting it to be a bit more exciting after the beginning and especially after the airplane scene.

I remain undecided about this book - it’s a strange mix of sci fi with some romance. I found it hard to follow until newer the end of the book. Jumping around between characters without the links initially was hard to follow. I love the underlying story with free energy but I’m not sure I followed it properly. Overall moderately enjoyable but won’t be rushing to reread.
