A killer is looking to silence them, once and for all.

FBI agent Jordan Wallace is close to cracking the human trafficking case she’s been working, when she does the one thing she should never do: let her guard down. The botched undercover mission is semi-salvaged by the last-minute appearance of criminal psychologist Patrick Law, but Jordan can’t imagine making a worse first impression. Especially when she’s partnered with Patrick moving forward.

Patrick’s innate ability to get inside a criminal’s head is an asset for the Krewe of Hunters. But Jordan wishes she could protect her own thoughts from her new partner. Patrick assures her that both she and her thoughts are safe with him, but Jordan’s less sure about her heart. Letting someone have her back has never been her strong suit, but with a dangerous killer still at large, trusting in Patrick might be the only thing keeping them alive.

This is book 38 in the Krewe of Hunters series and apparently the third in an arc. It took me a little while to fully understand the Krewe and why they all could talk to the dead man, but once I did I don’t think not having read the others hurt me. This a romance suspense book. The Krewe is after a human trafficker only known as John Smith. When an undercover operation goes wrong it seems all may be lost but with a little finesse they are able to turn it around and salvage it. But Mr. Smith is cruel and has redundancies set up so his people would rather die than be captured.

FBI Special Agent Jordan Wallace is working undercover when she is taken by human traffickers to be sold to the highest bidder. She escapes her kidnappers with the help of the criminal psychologist Patrick Law, the ghost officer, Sergeant Alfie Parker and the agents from the Krewe of Hunters FBI unit. Jackson Crowe, the leader of the Krewe of Hunters, assigns Patrick to be Jordan's partner. Jordan is not used to having a partner. She has always worked alone. Patrick and Jordan have a rough start but soon they become a well-tuned partnership. They also give in to their desires and quickly become a romantic couple.

Jackson Crowe and the Krewe of Hunters unit feel the human trafficking is tied to the Embracer murders. They believe the head of this criminal organization is John Smith. They are also looking for Susie, the woman Sergeant Alfie Parker arrested once. Susie was recaptured and Alfie won't find his rest until he knows that she is safe.

The thirty-eighth novel in the Krewe of Hunters series, this book focuses on Jordan and Patrick's partnership both professionally and romantically. Patrick's ability to read minds is an asset to the Krewe of Hunters FBI unit. Both Jordan and Patrick can see ghosts. Alfie helps out in this novel by walking through walls to assess the situation or by projecting energy to disrupt a criminal long enough for the living persons to take over. While the Krewe of Hunters are pursuing the head of the criminal organization, they are also looking for Susie. The plot and subplots weave seamlessly into each other. The tension is high in this paranormal romance and suspense novel. The settings are realistic and vivid. The descriptions are described with an eye to detail. The dialogue has snappy moments and is intense during suspenseful moments. This novel is well-written and kept my attention throughout the reading. I've enjoyed reading about the Law triplets and their unique talents.

Sound of Darkness, Aura of Night and Voice of Fear are all novels in the Krewe of Hunters series, but all involve the case surrounding the Embracer and the Law siblings (triplets) who have unique abilities.

This story belongs to Patrick Law, a criminal psychologist and a consultant for the Krewe of Hunters. He helped in the previous novels and this time has his dog, an Irish Wolfhound, with him. We are introduced to FBI Special Agent Jordan Wallace when she is captured by human traffickers while undercover. She is rescued by Patrick and agents after deceased officer Archie alerts him to the danger.

The Krewe is still looking for John Smith, whom they believe is the head of the organization. The tale that unfolds has Patrick and Jordan working together along with the previous couples as they try to interrogate suspects, save victims, and cut off the head of the snake.

As always, Graham delivered plenty of danger and they get into several intense situations. Sparks fly and simmer as these two connect. I devoured the book in two sittings. The romance felt genuine, and I liked both characters; professionally and as individuals. It was great seeing a guy who respected his partner’s abilities and supported her ideas.

The story shed light on human trafficking and the inner workings of some networks. John Smith’s network was disturbing and how he caught people up from crew to victims was chilling.

I was glad to see the case wrap up and get closer to several threads and character lines. I am looking forward to seeing where the Krewe of Hunters goes next. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

This is a paranormal romance/suspense thriller in Graham's long-running Krewe of Hunters series. (I've read several of them recently, but still don't know why they're called that.) This is the 38th book in the series, but it stands well on its own despite being the final book of a trilogy/arc; the previous events are well-summarized, and there's not really a whole lot of doubt as to how it's all going to turn out. The series is a little formulaic, but they're fun, fast reads. The story is about the division of the FBI who can see and communicate with ghosts going after a serial killer who's the head of a human trafficking gang. All of the agents are young and attractive and hook up with one another somewhere along the line. This one doesn't have as much historical background as most of the others I've read, but it has some neat dogs and this time around the ghost is actually quite helpful. The romance angle is amusing (Jordan's afraid that Patrick can read her mind, and she's insecure about his two sisters), and the intimacy is never graphic. It's another entertaining and adventurous outing, with several cameos from characters who star in other books in the series that I've read.

Voice of Fear is the 38th book in the Krewe of Hunters series, but I have only read a handful of them. Each one is a self-contained story, where the crime is dealt with and there is some kind of romantic suspense. Apparently this is the third book that deals with the case of the "Embracer" that involves trafficking, but I still enjoyed this story without reading Sound of Darkness And Aura of Night. FBI agent Jordan Wallace is close to cracking the human trafficking case she’s been working uncover. Unfortunately, her cover is blown and she had put herself and the case in danger. The mission is partially salvaged and Jordan is saved by Patrick Law, a criminal psychologist who is also pretty good with a weapon. Several of the workers are killed and/or captured as well as women saved, but what they find out is terrifying. Many of the foot soldiers in the organization are only working for them because their spouses and children are being held and the threat is there that they will be killed if they mess up. Can the Krewe find and rescue the hostages, as well as find the king pin and shut down the operation for good?

After the botched situation, Jordan is partnered with Patrick. She is not impressed that she is working with a psychologist, especially one that has seen her mess up. She is not used to depending on a partner, but looking after herself. Patrick seems to be able to read minds, as he is so good at figuring out what the criminals are thinking. There is a spirit of a deceased agent, Archie, that is in these stories and helps out by alerting them to danger etc. There is a lot of danger, adventure and suspense in this story. Being in these situations, the sparks fly and the chemistry boils to the top. I enjoyed the romance, it was not in your face, but seemed realistic. While fiction, a story like this sheds light on the issue of human trafficking and how easy it is to get caught up as a victim or working for the traffickers. I will probably go back and read the previous two books, so I get the whole story. The narration was performed by Roger Wayne. I have listened to him before and while he doesn't use a lot of expression, the seriousness of the story shines through.

Another riveting and tightly woven Krewe of Hunters mystery, “Voice of Fear” opens when FBI agent Jordon Wallace on an undercover assignment as a college graduate to find a congressman’s daughter is kidnapped from a swimming pool by sex traffickers. Managing to escape, her mission is somewhat salvaged by the intervention of criminal psychologist Patrick Law who she’s partnered with while hunting the dangerous mastermind of the organization after he escapes his incarceration by feigning a coma.

Well-written and intense the two are aided by the ghost of Sergeant Alfred (Alfie) Parker who died struggling to save a young woman while taking down the psychopath Rory Ayers, head of the organization. Filled with suspense especially when the devious killer escapes imprisonment, murdering anyone in his way, the intensity is diluted with the introduction of Patrick’s Irish wolfhound Bry-bo and his romance with Jordon.

Heading a compelling cast of characters is the capable, dedicated, sometimes reckless FBI Agent Jordon Wallace; police consultant and criminal psychologist Patrick Law who’s good-looking, strong, and highly intelligent; and the compassionate and kind Sergeant Alfie Parker who can’t find eternal rest until he rescues Susie. Yet it’s the diabolical killer Rory Ayers (aka John Smith) fronting as a honorable businessman and pillar of society who adds darkness and death to this entertaining thriller.

I enjoyed "Voice of Fear” and look forward to reading the other novels in Heather Graham’s latest Krewe of Hunters thrillers.

I received this ARC From Netgalley and the Harlequin books in exchange for an honest review. This is book 38 in the Krewe of Hunters Series. I have read every one in this series and enjoyed all of them. I really can’t wait for each new novel that Graham puts out in the Krewe of Hunters series. We are introduced to some new characters and go more in-depth with some of Graham’s past characters. These last three books from the series deal with the Law triplets who each possess unusual powers. In “Voice of Fear” we are told the last story of the triplets, Patrick Law, who is a criminal psychologist and a consultant for the Krewe of Hunters. We also meet Jordan Wallace an undercover FBI agent working with the Krewe of Hunters for her ability to see ghosts. The story opens up with Jordan being captured by human traffickers and trying to escape. When she thinks that she will be killed, she hears Patrick and the FBI break in and they rescue her and other women taken to be sold in other countries. This then starts the partnership of Jordan and Patrick trying to hunt down John Smith the leader of this group of human traffickers and the prisoners that they have at different locations. You need to pick up a copy of this story and enjoy the suspense, romance and especially the Krewe of Hunters. Graham doesn’t disappoint in her latest of the Krewe of Hunters!

This series, unfortunately, has gotten worse and worse. Dialogue now is so stilted, unoriginal, and repetitive. The characters are so one-dimensional it's rather shocking, and there's no spark between the main love interest. It's all tell, not show. I didn't feel anything because Ms. Graham was telling me everything. I skimmed paragraphs and pages just to see how the story turned out. Where is Ms. Graham's editor? Did that person really think this book, and several previous in this series, were fit for publication? I liked the books early in this series, but the last several have been annoyingly awful and this will be my last purchase.

A typical Krewe of Hunter’s novel. Crime, ghosts, a Krewe agent and a non-Krewe agent paired together to solve the crime. Initially they don’t seem to like or trust each other but pretty quickly they roll in the bay and fall in love. The woman entices the criminal and is saved by the male. The author writes likable characters interesting plots, so even though it follows a pattern, it’s an enjoyable read.

I mostly just wanted this trilogy to be over. The characters and story line were getting stale and drawn out. The redeeming aspect of the story was Alfie, the ghost of a cop killed in the line of duty.

This book was an exciting book with the Krewe of hunters. Jordan has been undercover to stop a human trafficking case, when her and a few friends are by the pool at night. They make the mistake to not notify any back up, and as she gets out of the pool she is taken, along with a few others. She understands if she lets them get her into their van she is lost in the system. She fights hard to break free warning them that a unit of FBI is right behind her. She is shocked when a man steps out behind her and shoots at the kidnappers. She recognizes him as Patrick Law. He is a Criminal Psychologist that consults with the Krewe. He has called in her emergency , after a ghost friend of hers learned of her plan. Soon the van was apprehended, and the girls released. This news led to a ware house that was holding multiple young women, and a few young men, and even children. They had heard two different names as leaders, but they were sure their was one puppet master, and even behind bars , he was running a huge empire. Once he escapes jail, he continues to kill more. People are afraid to talk, yet one woman is up to her neck in trouble, and is more afraid of the killer getting to her, so they finally pin down some credible information. Jordan, and Patrick work as a team. They find other places holding prisoners for sale. The one ghost speaks of Susie, who had gotten free, only to be grabbed again, and no one knew if she had been killed for fighting back, and standing up to the kidnappers. The ghost really wants her found. He lost his life in an attempt to free her. There books are really great. They have a close knit group who have different psychic abilities. They have lots of help from police, and sheriff departments as well. Patrick understands what the killer is usually thinking, or planning to do next, but he has not joined the Krewe as yet, except to consult. There is a romance blooming between him, and Jordan. They have little time, and are with others a lot, but even others begin to notice their attraction to each other. The book is really about the hunt for this evil man, who is just sick in his head, and enjoys killing. They also want to take his empire apart. I gave it a five. It also has a great ending, and epilogue.

3 stars.

Unfortunately, I'd forgotten much of what happened in the previous books involving the hero's triplet sisters. Probably would have been better to have refreshed myself with those two before I listened to this one.

Overall, it was still an ok book in the Krewe of Hunters series with cameos from Jackson, Angela and a few of the other Krewe members. There's a bit of ghostly assistance in the form of a cop killed in the line of duty who has some unfinished business.

However, I am finding it harder and harder to remember the different couples, probably because there have been so many over the years. For me, it would have been better to have maybe stick with a core set of characters rather than keep expanding the Krewe? Just my personal opinion though.

While this book tied up all the loose ends from the ongoing story line in the previous two books, it really didn't do much for me. These last few books have really felt more like the author was just dialing it in for a paycheck. I also don't care for the misuse of the term, "service dog." Slip ups like this cause serious issues in the real world for people who actually rely on true service dogs to live independently.

This book is a Krewe of Hunters story set in the Virginia/DC area and features agent Jordan Wallace along with consultant Patrick Law. Patrick's two sisters have been featured in another Krewe novel.
The story is set around the continued search for Susie who was a friend of Alfie(now a ghost) and the continued existence of a crime group ruled thru fear. The book was a quick easy read.

Suspense

Virginia – Present Day

Sergeant Alfred “Alfie” Parker died while participating in a raid of a master criminals’ operation. The raid consisted of local law enforcement swat teams and the FBI. The massive criminal organization came to Alfie’s attention from a young woman, Susie, who he arrested. At his death, the well-being of Susie was unknown. So, now he stands patiently in the cemetery waiting for Patrick Law, a psychologist/psychiatrist, and a police consultant to meet him. Alfie has a bad feeling that the head of the crime organization is not in prison and is not who they thought it was. Alfie feels sure Susie is still in danger, and now FBI Agent Jordan Wallace, on an undercover operation, may also be in peril.

Patrick Law is no stranger to the strange and unusual, he and his sisters (they are triplets) all have unusual talents. When Patrick meets Alfie in the cemetery and learns of Alfie’s fears, he agrees to help protect Jordan and look for the missing Susie.

Jordan Wallace is the newest agent in the FBI Krewe of Hunters, young, beautiful, and skilled, she is the perfect agent to go undercover to find out why young women have gone missing. From the beginning of the investigation, she believes it ties in with a larger criminal organization, run by “John Smith.” Though the FBI believes “John Smith” is Rory Ayers, and Ayers is already in prison after the raid conducted where Alfie died, others wonder if Ayers is just a bad guy, and not the mastermind.
Things go south when Jordan is abducted, just like the other women. Jordan’s fearlessness and skill allow her to escape her captors, though she wouldn’t have survived if Patrick and Alfie had not shown up just in time. Patrick’s tirade that she was reckless doesn’t sit well with her, even if she barely escaped. The rest of the Krewe is called in and the warehouse where the kidnapped women are being held is raided. The women are rescued, and a multitude of criminals are either killed, wounded, or taken to jail, including a woman who is no stranger to the Krewe.
Once the dust settles, the real investigation begins. The Krewe learns that there are other locations where the loved ones of some working for the organization are held prisoner to keep the hired thugs in line. Who really runs this criminal enterprise, and if it’s Rory Ayers how is he doing it from prison?

Patrick, Jordan, and Alfie along with the rest of the crew start searching for the families while they try to find out who is really pulling the strings. They also wonder if it’s possible that Alfie’s friend Susie is still alive … no one seems to know what happened to her. As the Krewe gets closer to the answers the danger escalates. Patrick and Jordan try to fight their attraction to each other, but it doesn’t work, and while they are struggling to unravel the truth behind “John Smith” and the missing families as well as Susie, Ayers escapes from prison and the stakes get even higher.
A gripping novel of suspense, with paranormal elements, VOICE OF FEAR is a terrific read. I’ve read most of the Krewe of Hunters novels, though not all, yet, and had no problem keeping up with all the names and people involved in the novel. If you haven’t read the Krewe of Hunters series, the relationships and members of the team are explained within the novel so that you won’t be confused. VOICE OF FEAR is about the team, but the core of the story is Patrick, Jordan, and Alfie. If you like exciting, fast-moving suspense you will love this novel. I highly recommend VOICE OF FEAR, and once you have read it, I bet you will go searching for the 37 previous novels. Heather Graham delivers on every level. Enjoy!

I gave this book one star, simply because I did manage to finish it.

But it was painful.

Granted, the storyline is unique. FBI agents, with psychic powers, and able to speak to the dead, chasing down a serial killer.

But honestly, story itself is simplistic. No twists, no turns. Not even any flashes of brilliant detective work. They go from suspect to suspect, each inexplicably spilling their guts, and leading them through the case.

All the while, the dialogue between characters feels forced, and totally unnatural. Attempts at witty banter come across as annoying, repetitive drivel.

Heather Graham seems to be a prolific writer, and maybe this just wasn't her best effort. But I'm afraid I will never know if any of her other books are better.

Voice of Fear by Heather Graham is the 38th book in her Krewe of Hunters series. I am a big fan of Heather Graham, as her romance suspense books are always exciting and action packed. Voice of Fear is the third book in this trilogy arc. The last two books were centered on Colleen, who is an FBI agent (with the Krewe Hunters), and her sister Megan. In Voice of Fear, Jordan Wallace, our heroine, an FBI agent is the lead, with the third Law family member (triplets), Patrick Law, as the hero in this book.

The story starts with Jordan working undercover, finding herself captured by human traffickers, trying to escape. Just when she thinks they will kill her, she is rescued by the FBI and Patrick Law. The FBI and Krewe team manage to save other women being sold to other countries. Patrick went out of his way to tell Jordan that she was wrong not to have a backup, nearly getting herself killed. With the man behind the human trafficking still missing, Patrick and Jordan are teamed up as partners. Even though they got off on the wrong foot, in a short time they become great partners, and eventually a romance will bring them even closer.

It was great to see other members of the Krewe team, especially those who have unique abilities. The Law triplets each possess unusual powers, such as Colleen being able to hear voices in her head, and Patrick, who is criminal psychologist, and can read minds; not to mention that many Krewe members can see ghosts. Both Patrick and Jordan can see ghosts, and one ghost, Alfie will play a major part in this story, trying to save an old friend, before he moves on.

A powerful and evil vicious dangerous killer is still at large, and Jordan, Patrick, and the team do everything to find him before he kills again. What follows is a tense exciting thriller that will have Jordan, Patrick, and all the wonderful Krewe team, such as Coleen, Ragnar, Angela, Jackson, Mark, Megan, and other members of the Krewe team, working together to save the women. I loved Patrick’s dog, Bry-Bo, who was so helpful when danger was near. To say too much more would be spoilers, and you need to read this from start to finish, as there are some twists and surprises.

It was a wild tense last third of the book, as we raced to the climax, had me holding my breath to see who will survive. Voice of Fear was an exciting, intense, suspenseful, dark story of murder, with a sweet slow burn romance, great couple and lots of action throughout. Once again, Heather Graham gives us a wild, mindboggling thriller, that kept our attention from start to finish. I did like that both Patrick and Jordan were a great couple. If you like intense supernatural thrillers, which is written so very well by Heather Graham, then I suggest you read Voice of Fear.

Jordan Wallace is an FBI agent with the Krewe of Hunters unit working undercover on a case when she's taken. Things are saved by the appearance of Patrick Law, a criminal psychologist working with the Krewe, with the help of a ghost named Alfie. Alfie was a police officer who started to bring down the human trafficking ring that the Krewe is now working on. Patrick and Jordan are teamed up as they go forward on the case trying to finally bring the head of the ring, a truly dangerous man, down.

I absolutely love this series and this book was no exception. Heather Graham is one excellent author, and I'm always eager for each new Krewe of Hunters book. This one was well-written with well-rounded characters whether they were the good guys or the bad guys. Third in the trilogy featuring the Law triplets, this captivating story drew me in and kept me hooked from beginning to end. There's romance, intrigue, and suspense which will take you through a range of emotions. I highly recommend both book and series which is best read in order (in my opinion). If you're new to the series, there are trilogies and quartets that are designed to be read together so you can start there rather than reading all the books. This trilogy was Sound of Darkness. Aura of Night, and Voice of Fear. I do ultimately suggest you read all of the books as there are recurring characters.

Graham has a formula for her Krewe of Hunters series(she’s at #38 and writing). She has a basic core group of special FBI agents in the Krewe. Then she introduces new members. There’s always a local detective working with them. There is at least one member who can see and talk to ghosts and a restless ghost willing/needing to help with the latest case. Often the final confrontation is in a cemetery like this one was. The other “must have” is a romance with the couple first disliking each other then falling in love.
The whole setup has become quite lame. I needed a quick filler while waiting for my hold books to come in from other libraries. But this is the last time I pick up one of Heather Graham’s.

The Krewe is hunting a violent killer and trafficker who gets people to help him by threatening their families killing anyone who gets in his way. Alfie is there to help them, walking thru walls to scope out situations and sometimes being able to help physically. He can’t rest until he finds Susie, a woman he was trying to help before he was killed. I don’t usually do paranormal books but Heather Graham is the exception. Her books are always entertaining , with suspense, romance and a great cast of characters. This book is part of a series but could easily be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This was a good book but it moves very fast which makes everything seem very unrealistic. Although people also talk with ghosts in this book so... I guess what I'm trying to say is I would have liked the main characters to get more time outside of work to develop their relationship. One thing I loved about this book was the dogs. I love animals in books it makes the characters more endearing to me.

My only bitch is when Amelia Ayers is having a seizure and Patrick puts something in her mouth.. never ever ever ever do this. Just don't.. a person can't swallow their tongue when they're seizing. You turn them on their side and let them seize, you don't put anything in their mouth and don't try to stop the seizure.

These are my guilty pleasure fluff reads. I received a number of the Krewe books by an aunt who has now passed away and I was missing her, so I grabbed this off the shelf to read and remember our discussions about books and reading. This is not good writing and needs an editor but it is fun. I was disappointed as this one does not have the atmosphere of the previous Krewe books that are set in New Orleans. And the ghosts were not as prominent as usual. It was still enjoyable, in spite of the gaggy romance. It was interesting to note the mention of the Myer-Briggs personality type, which matches my own since me and a couple of friends had been discussing that very thing moments before I happened upon the paragraph below. I appreciate such moments when my reading world and my real world collide.

"She liked working with others; it was incredible to get to work with the Krewe. She had read somewhere once that INFPs, or 'mediator' personality types, able to emphasize and comprehend others to the nth degree, made up 4 or 5 percent of the world population. She knew Adam and Angela had once gotten together to research the past and present. And while they were not alone, only one-fourth of 1 percent of the population had the strange sixth sense that allowed them to see the dead - not by sitting around a crystal ball and waiting for knocks on the table, but by casually having conversations wherever they might be found. Being with the Krewe was special."

"Alfie, we're working," he said dismissively. "Killer hours, which are about to start again. I'm heading down for coffee now. How did you get here anyway?"
"The usual. You know. Beware of hitchhiking ghosts! I have it down to an art." (If you know, you know, fellow Disney freaks.)

"Yeah, the Viking age was pretty brutal. But guess what? They settled places, too. Olaf the White was the founder of Dublin, Ireland. And don't forget Bluetooth!" he said.
"Bluetooth?" Jordan asked.
"Harald Bluetooth. Mid 900s. King of Denmark and Norway. He introduced Christianity to his people and was known to be a pretty cool fellow. The 'Bluetooth' option we used today is named for him."
