Those Kilted Bastards #3

The Rake's Insatiable Bride

Rate this book
She’ll do things her way, or not at all…and that includes marriage!

Industrialist Jade Thacker is used to being in control of her own life. Which is why it’s damned galling to learn her well-meaning guardian plans to marry her off before she comes into full control of her inheritance! And a betrothal is one thing, but what’s this nonsense about marriage-by-proxy? Is she married, or isn’t she?

Well, there’s one thing she can still control: her virginity. Which is why she visited London’s most infamous male courtesan to rid herself of that pesky detail. But now, staring (horrified) up at the gorgeous man her possible-husband turned out to be, she’s reconsidering the whole scheme.

Loving women is one of the few things he’s good at…but he can’t forget her!

Life was going just fine—women, wine, more women—until Cameron MacKay’s father sent him that blasted letter. He loves the dear old coot, of course, but marriage? Especially a marriage-by-proxy? Please, this isn’t the fourteenth century! But when he opens the door to see the (horrified) expression on the face of his most recent client, Cam admits himself intrigued.

And now the one thing she wants…is him!

Cam knows why Jade doesn’t want to be married, but when a deluge strands them together in his cottage, she decides on a new goal: him. Or maybe it’s just that now she’s tasted the pleasure he can offer her, she wants more. Either way, he’s going to have to be the strong one in this crisis.

Too bad he’ll always be a rake at heart.

Warning: There’s nothing “too bad” about being a rake, right? Especially a rake stuck in a forced-proximity, oh-no-there’s-only-one-bed, fighting-his-own-best-interests sort of situation! This one starts super spicy and continues that way, and is full of laugh-out-loud bits you’ve come to expect from one of Caroline’s Victorian RomComs.

The third book in this fun, entertaining & often hilarious series & another wonderful read. I just loved it Cam & Jade are delightful, their chemistry is electric. However they both have secrets, which are gradually revealed, could they ruin their growing feelings? I’m loving the series & each book just gets better & this truly is a treasure. If you're looking for a book to lighten your mood look no further
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Yet another fabulous entertaining read from Caroline Lee. Unlike her medieval, side-splitting reads, this story has heart to it.

I expected our hero, Cam, to be uber funny. He has brought humor and light heartedness to all the scenes from books 1-2. But alas he has layers this man. He just wants to be understood and seen.

Jade was the perfect match. She can see a kindred spirit. Maybe just not as seen because of race, gender and she's wicked smart. But she brings the best out in our hero.

This book kept me laughing and swooning. I was entertained when the chemistry ran hot and when the emotions were at odds. But made me a believer in opposites should attract!

A marriage by proxy? An impossibly barbaric custom! And yet it’s exactly what Jade’s uncle and guardian has organized for her, just a few days before she is going to gain full control of her inheritance and her company. Hoping to at least enjoy a last taste of freedom, witty and smart Jade decides to visit a male courtesan to experience the pleasure she’s certainly not going to have with her supposed husband… But fate has a different plan for her.
Cameron MacKay is enjoying his rakish life in London and marriage is definitely out of question for him. But as it seems, his father does not agree and has found him a bride. Cam is vehemently opposed to the idea, until he sees who she is…
First of all, let me tell you that the scene of seduction at the very beginning is perfection! And Cam is such a sweet, endearing character! I love heroes who seem self-assured, but in reality are fragile and hurt and they are just trying to protect their hearts.
And of course Caroline Lee is the queen of historical rom-com! I ADORE her humor. I don’t know why, but I always feel like I’m on the same wavelength as her female leads and I’d think exactly the same things! This series has been a revelation for me and I’ve loved each and every one of these books. But now I look forward to the last one, because there’s a mystery to unravel here, and a potentially dark hero who I hope will reveal his brighter side…
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A wonderfully hilarious, heart-warming and romantic story. Marriage-by-Proxy you say? Is there such a thing? Jade Thacker and Cameron MacKay have been convinced that it is, and both are anxious to get out of it, at least until they actually meet. Loved these characters and found them endearing and believable. Also loved the original storyline and Ms Lee's writing style is always a great read.

This series is so incredibly good. I did not think Caroline could surpass The Earl’s Brazen Widow but this story is right alongside it. It is complex, hilarious, naughty and emotional. Wow, who would have thought Cam was such a magnificent man and not a ne’er do well rake? Jade’s strength and willingness to take charge of her sexual needs and Cam’s emotional rollercoaster ride through their relationship is so tantalizing and worth every minute of time it takes to read this delightful story. Not everyone is what they portray and it is refreshing to read about a man who is basically hiding his goodness. Love him more? Yes, you will! Both characters are a treasure (see my play on words?).

👌

This story was slow to begin with, but became increasingly enticing to the point where I could not put it down. I feel like the ending was incomplete, I wanted- for lack of a better word- more. I wanted to know more than what I was told; it came to a point where I just couldn't put this book down. Over all, this novel deserves a high rating because it was deliciously good.

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

What a jump in time in three reads, from Jack The Ripper era to WWII then back to Queen Victorian time.
While this is a funny tale like only the author knows to wrap them with bows and sweets, it is also the story of a man who is much more than his appearance and a woman with hidden passion.

This is a romance full of double entendres, sexy pun and outrageous wordplays.
Everything to smile and laugh.
Jade is a few weeks shy from her freedom, the day when she will be sole master of her destiny. Yet it looks like men have a way to impede her journey toward her independence, while it should have been smooth, she is caught between a peer with eyes on her wealth no qualms to compromise her and her uncle whose good intentions would see her married to his good for nothing illegitimate son.
So before she get herself shackled against her better judgement, she is set on having her own way with her virtue.
Cameron to the world is an insolent profligate, living of his charms. But everything is a facade, sure he brings pleasures to women in need of a good time in the bedroom but he is a man who gives women the reins of their own bliss. He does not take, he gives and shares. But will Jade understand this when they get stranded together and has to dig under his society’s mask?
A fun and lovely tale.

My first full 5 star rating for a Caroline Lee book. I just adored this one! (and bonus, it did not seem to have the problems that have plagued the others to keep them from rating higher) Double bonus, it is super steamy and incredibly hot right from the start!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Lee is very good at creating wonderful connection and chemistry between her characters and the chemistry is off the charts in this one. She also has a nice touch with role reversal. Jade is definitely a strong, smart, confident, and capable young woman who knows what she wants and does what she needs to get it. I liked how Cam was all swagger and charm and seeming confidence, but also hid some vulnerability. I love when characters "see" the real person behind the obvious and love them even more for it.

Lastly, huzzah for a diverse character! I loved Jade's story and heritage and the fact that she didn't try to hide it at all. She really was a wonderful character.

I have read the previous two connected series prior to this. I will say that, even being someone who likes to always read series/worlds in order, that it is not necessary in this case, and in fact I would recommend just starting here. While there are good things/books in both of the other series, and there are characters who are introduced there, this series is better than both. I originally was interested in Keith's story and I feel like that is also the first one I really loved once I finally got back to it. Also, if you are a lover of steam, the others are quite low (even the Scott and Farmer ones, which was surprising) whereas there are quite a few super hot scenes in these.

Many of us who read historical romance choose a book boyfriend. I’m calling dibs on Cam!

Jade is an impressive and powerful woman in her own right, but to me, Cam is the breakout star of The Kilted Bastards. Throughout the first two books he’s a good-time guy. All we really know about him is that he’s a charming, handsome man with group of true friends. This book exposes his true self. He has some insecurities caused by his treatment by both his mother’s and his father’s families, but he doesn’t allow it to affect the way he treats the people around them which is impressive to me. He respects women as is revealed in their sexy introduction to one another. Oh, and that man has a talented tongue in more ways than one!

When Cam and Jade find themselves alone in a cottage we get to be a fly on the wall as their relationship truly develops. Cam may be considered a bastard due to his birth, but he reveals that he’s truly a gentleman. They feel like they could be a real couple with all of the associated growing pains which include some secrets. Throughout the book we are treated to Caroline Lee’s trademark sense of humor.

I really enjoyed this book. I felt the thrill of Jade’s self-discovery along with Cam’s pride. I felt Cam’s pride in knowing that he’s more than he appears to be. Most of all, I really enjoyed both Cam and Jade coming to the realization that they were fooked. The book hangover was worth it!

More than appearances

Jade is a successful shipping magnate and finds it falling her guardian wants to marry her off both are a choice she does not want! She doesn’t want or need a husband! Thank you very much! She wants to lose her virginity on her own terms! She wants to avoid marriage to a womanizer bully either him or a lazy son who is a rake! Cameron aka Cam has a reputation built as a well paid male whore Aka courtesan!
Two are most definitely opposite and have nothing in common? But do they? When they get letters to confirm marriage by proxy these two have a very steamy history including public fencing!
When things are falling into place and secrets and identifies get exposed a rejected suitor who is a complete dangerous idiot! We know desperate people do foolish things but the kidnapping is foolish and dangerous with the right amount of humor thrown in!
Laugh out loud moments
The hero exposes his secrets and intelligence no one knew he possessed!
Cam gives pleasure but there is a secret to it that shows emotional vulnerability to his life as a bastard!
There was a hint thrown out that maybe Cam was unlucky in love but nothing more is said! The intriguing part is these were already a huge part of each others life and they didn't even know it!!! Bravo! Can't wait for the next one!!

A Secret, A Treasure Make This a Dynamic Romance:
Carloine Lee writes a thrilling laugh out loud romance story, and I was enthralled with
this story right from the beginning.
Jade is an outrageously forward and determined lady on her way to meet Cam the
towns well known rake. Their meeting was quite randy, and the attraction between
the two was unforgettable.
The first chapter was more than pleasurable to read and thrilling. I was totally engrossed from that point on. I loved both the characters and the story is sparkling with laugh out loud humor.
One of my favorite parts is when they are baking some cookies.
The story is not only emotional but thrilling with a touch of mystery and discovery of true love.
A good epilogue that brings some previous friends together again along with the
mention of Brom and his fascination with animal dropping.
I learned quite a bit by reading the authors notes at the very end and it seems
we might get to read about Crowe's story next which I would love to read.
This is a stand-alone story that is part of a series with some reoccurring characters.
Adult Advisory:✔
Descriptive Scenes:
I did receive an advanced copy for my honest opinion.

The Rake's Insatiable Bride by Caroline Lee is the third installment in the Those Kilted Bastards series, blending humor, romance, and a dash of historical charm. The story follows Jade Thacker, an independent and headstrong industrialist who is determined to live life on her own terms. Furious at her guardian’s plans to marry her off without her consent, Jade takes drastic action, visiting London’s most notorious male courtesan to rid herself of her virginity. Little does she know, the very man she visits is Cameron MacKay, the same man she may end up marrying by proxy!

Cameron, a self-proclaimed rake, is content with his carefree life until he finds himself in an unexpected marriage arrangement. Sparks fly when the two are stranded together during a storm, and Jade finds herself irresistibly drawn to him.

Filled with laugh-out-loud moments, sizzling chemistry, and the tension of a forced-proximity romance, this Victorian RomCom is sure to entertain fans of historical romance with a playful twist.

I loved this book so much!!! This is book 3 of the Those Kilted Bastards series though it can be read as a standalone. This book follows the bastard,Cameron MacKay and Industrialist Jade Thacker. Cam is so much more than London’s most infamous male courtesan but he hides it all from everyone. Jade just wants to run her late father's business and have control of her money, why is that so wrong?!?!!? Through a series of events the two are thrown together. This book was so great. From the witty comments and banter the two have, to the really getting to know the two, you can't help but love the two of them!!!! Ai-ya!
You gotta read this book, you won't be disappointed. But then everything Caroline lee writes is great! I love the humor in her books, the crude comments along the way, the love story wrapped up in there, just great!

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.

Another laugh at loud, crazy and romantic story by Caroline Lee. This is the third book in Those Quilted Bastard series and once again a hilarious, witty, story with a different scenario a Marriage-by-Proxy.

You will absolutely love Cam he is nothing like the rake he is portrayed to be. These two are not happy about being forced into a Marriage-By-Proxy, especially Jade so she decides she will lose her virginity before being forced to marry. However, an unexpected encounter, great chemistry and secrets could make a HEA difficult for Cam and Jade.

I was entertained from page one, you have to read this compelling, funny, passion filed story, with engaging characters and a myriad of emotions. No one writes witty, outrageously funny RomCom's like Caroline Lee.

I read all the reviews and my feelings when I finished the book differed somewhat. Yes it was steamy, yes there were parts that were humorous, but using 20th Century items (Twister? Really?) in what is billed as a Historical Rom Com just struck me as not only odd but just a tad weird. There were plenty of strange and wonderful things being invented and used in the time period this was written without bringing something in from 1960. I know it was all in good fun, but it just didn't ring right to me.

The book was well written, as all of Caroline Lee's are, but this one, despite the well written steam, got off on the wrong foot with me with the dildo and never gained my interest 100% back.

A smartly stupid (or stupidly smart) combo of absolute goofiness and self-pleasuring in search of a plot. Just forget the fact that the h is half-Asian and a business genius who would have struggled to break through the glass ceiling--or thatch roof, as the case might be--in patriarchal 1800's England. This entry in the series is kind of like Mel Brooks meets Dr. Ruth and they decided to write a HR (OK, now I know I've dated myself). It did make me chuckle about as much as a I rolled my eyes, so I had to give it 3 stars.

The villain, Buthert (heh, heh) wasn't making fun of those dry old history nitpickers at the end, was he? Hmm....

This is so far my favourite in this series. Cam and Jade were such a lovely couple. Cam comes across as a rake but there is a deeper kinder side to him that not many understand and Jade is an independent woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to do it. When they were forced to be in each other’s company whilst they waited out a storm their bond deepened and we saw the true people that they are. Great writing again from Caroline.

I Loved every second of this one!
Caroline Lee's exceptional humour just explodes off the pages of this story which tells us about the love blooming between Cam and Jade. Could a story get any better than to keep one absolutely glued till the very end? Never!
This author has the ability to grab your attention and to keep you reading. Her characters are steamy hot and very well crafted. Some of the facts are tongue in cheek literary fiction for the time period but this is fiction after all and all of this gives us a really great book to read.

Another Terrific Romp

Caroline Lee gives us great romp with heroine Jade, a businesswoman seeking to lose her virginity on her terms, and Cam, a Scottish nobleman's illegitimate son. (And someone who prefers to not let others know how cunning he is.)

After a night of pleasure, Cam leads Jade thinking he is a paid companion. They are lured to a remote Scottish village and vet trapped together in a cottage during a torrential storm.

I really enjoyed This and it's a sexy, solid 5-star read.

Tantalizing, humorous and swoony. Cam is cheeky and not what he seems. Jade is all business but when she meets Cam for an assignation things change for her and him. A conniving Uncle makes sure they get together and are forced to spend time together. The flirting and tension between them is quite funny and when they give in to it, it will be freeing to them both to be able to put their trust in each other.

This is a steamy historical read about a proxy marriage between a Scotsman and a half Chinese/English woman who runs a company, surprising for those times. The story was interesting and the book well written. I'm not sure of the accuracy of some this story during that period in history and some parts felt quite "modern" but this is a work a fiction so we'll allow the author some poetic licence. It was a fun read with some humorous moments.

I liked this one a lot better than the first in the series. The beginning was truly intriguing. The way they met, their personalities...it had all the right ingredients. Then they tumbled into love too quickly for me without any emotional sparring or angst or conflict. There was but it wasn't done in a way I found very satisfying. First half very good, second half not satisfying

Amazing! At chapter two I was saying “Wow” by chapter three, I was laughing and in love. Both main characters are strong, dynamic and fun. While the book is a short read, it covers everything well and stopping before the end is not an option. Once again, Caroline Lee spins a great not quite historically correct tale.
