The Peace Not Promised

Fandom: Harry Potter

-------------

His life had been a mockery to itself, as too his death it seemed. For what kind of twisted humour would force Severus Snape to relive his greatest regret? To return him to the point in his life when the only person that ever mattered in his life had already turned away.

I have much respect for this author, they did a remarkable job writing this story with such detail. However as a reader I found there was too much detail for me. I resorted to skim reading over half this story.

Story wise I was very interested at the start and the finale part was good, but all the romance side was boring and the pairing left me scratching my head. I found Snapes behaviour quite off putting. I guess I was expecting a reformed Snape, but he only seemed to change in the last quarter of the book, leaving me to wonder why Lily fell so in love with him. Also given how old Snape was mentally I was a little off put by the sexual side of things.

Overall I enjoyed about half of the story and the rest was kinda boring.

For me the best part was how Snape started to reform Slytherin house. That was the story I was interested in.

Of course taking into consideration the idea of the fanfic (Severus goes back to his 6th year, after his canonical death in Deathly Hallows), it's quite canon compliant. Full of references to minor side characters, pottermore extras, a lot of attention to detail, the characters are polished, the old and those created by the author. My favourite fanfic up to this date, a must read

Canon!Snape, and let me tell you that I don't get how Lily can stand him most of the time (so bitter, jealous, and awful). Also a Lily really naive and ingenous.

Get better past the middle of the story with the alchemy and other magics.

As good as any fanfiction will ever get. The magnitude of effort that went into writing this alternate universe epic of Harry Potter is truly breathtaking
