What would you do if dark figures slid into your dreams every night? Creatures that know your every desire and strive to fulfill every single one of them. Dark men that change form, change their games, twisting your dreams until you’re gasping, though is that from pleasure or from fear?
But these monsters have an agenda of their own and when I’m summoned halfway across the world to my grandmother’s manor house, their snares get tighter. An heir must be chosen, not by my family, but by monsters.
Monsters that want to own me.
Do I surrender to their dark embrace, one that promises a world of pleasure that no man can rival, or do I search for the secret that lies at the heart of the family fortune? Because now they have me in their clutches, I’m not sure if they’ll ever let me go.
Author note: This book is a 200k story split across two parts. They will be released at the same time, so you'll be able to binge the whole story arc in one sitting. No cliffhangers, guaranteed HEA.
I really wanted to like this book because I looked forward to its release...a few things stopped that from happening.
- It's revealed that MC's mom did a lot of horrible things like making doctors drug the MC, trying to get her tubes tied when she was a teen, and a lot of abusive therapy!! The mom is a pretty one dimensional character. She took her kids away from their grandma and never let them come back; she's the reason they lost any hope of maintaining a relationship when they're younger. But the thing is...once they're adults they should be able to go back and visit Grandma as much as they want, right? So why don't they? MC is partially to blame for not having a relationship with her grandmother. She didn't exactly go out of her way to visit her once she was out of her mother's evil clutches.
- MC's sister is the most obnoxious, irritating character I've seen in a while. She only exists to "push the plot forward" which basically means she throws her sister at every hot guy available regardless of said sister's wishes. I hate her.
- I hate Maddox too. Asking MC on a date and then getting a BJ afterwards from her cousin? Get this guy out of here.
- I also just don't like the idea of the MLs all having been in a relationship with MC's grandma, great-grandma, great-great grandma, etc. It just squicks me out!!! Oh, but somehow MC is different from all the rest so that makes it ok.
TL;DR Annoying characters, annoying "plot". Not worth the read.

Okay, so, Fighting Monsters: Part One was interesting but definitely confused me. The monsters and characters themselves were sort of fascinating. Well, to a point that is. I just feel like I didn't get enough information to satisfy the questions that were being formed. We did, however, get plenty of steamy scenes throughout this. I'm still not even sure who is in the harem or not but hopefully things make more sense in part two.
Maybe.
Other than that, the ending was kind of weird for me. It seemed to casual and not like a true cliffhanger. In a way, it somehow worked because I do want to jump into the next part. At the same time, though, I'm not completely invested in anything either.
In the end, it was easy to read, and the characters can be somewhat likable. I just have lots of questions that need answers.
There is a high likelihood that I would have thought this series was awesome.
Except… there is one major issue I can’t deal with, so I had to DNF it.
These men had been having sex with every generation of the Rosewood female heirs since the 1600s. They were her Grandmother's lovers, for Christ’s sake! That’s icky. I can’t do it.
Morgan can’t possibly be special to them because she’s just one in the next generation. They tell her they love her, but how could that ever be possible? They loved their original woman; everyone else was her descendant and probably a pale facsimile in their estimation.
So, I can’t get behind this. I want my FMCs to be special to her harem and loved above all others. No matter what the author tries to sell us later, I won’t be able to believe it. There is no way they love Morgan more than anyone else.
Also, isn’t she gonna grow old? I don’t know what happens because I DNF’d it, but I imagine she’ll grow old, and then they’ll get it on with her kids and grandkids. Nope. Nope, nope, nope, nope. I’m outtie.
Sam Hall never disappoints and the way she created such a unique universe is impressive. This duology is long but the world build and the monsters are worth it.
If the idea of a Kraken, a Saytr, a Minotaur and a Gargoyle as your four hot, monster boyfriends intrigue you, then I definitely recommend you read this one. The story is much more than just monster smut, but there's a lot of that and it's really smeaty. The FMC keeps saying regular men can't compare to her monsters, and let me tell you, she's absolutely right.
But this story deals with magic, witches, family mysteries, legacy, mythology and British history among other great concepts and all put together created a very complex, intricate plot. You won't be able to put it down.
Sam Hall managed once again to get a concept as popular nowadays as monster romance and give it her own twist. There's a lot of social commentary and many magical concepts are used as comparison with our world's current issues in such a clever way, it's very impressive. I loved how she handled mental health and toxic family relationships the most.
If you're in the mood for a monster romance interlinked with a family mystery and much more, then give this one a go!
I can't understand why it would be ok to sleep with your great grandmother and grandmother's past lovers. The beginning of the book explained everything but I was already not liking the story. Of course she will be going through what her grandmother's went through except its kind of meh.. Nothing interesting about the main character or her guys. Yuck sleeping with men that already had a turn with your family. That just puts me off. But the story was ok. I wish there was a different way it could of gone. But she does seem to get more men. Yet I love RH's but this was just a no for me.
This book was quite honestly not what I was expecting given the title or cover. It all revolves around the heroine who is dragged back home to London when her grandmother is on her death bed. It’s been years since she’s been back to Rosemeade manor and there’s a whole can of worms waiting to open now that her gran is on her dying. Morgan is chosen as the heir to the estate and everything that comes with it, though what that fully entails remains to be seen. Morgan’s just happy to finally find some answers on why she sees monsters and a chance to discover how this all ties in to her family history. The book focuses a lot on the outcome of her being named heir and a bit about a curse. At times it did feel like her monsters and her being at the estate were two separate stories especially since others can’t see her men. She has a sexual relationship with her monsters and they always show up when she needs them the most, strong emotions always bring them to her and rather than fear they fill her with lust. While on the estate she meets two (live) men whom she slowly forms bonds with, how they and the monsters will all come together remains to be seen. Honestly the book laid out quite a bit of story but I have so many questions on how all the storylines will connect. I’m glad it’s a duet cause I need answers. Also I loved the heroines sister, she was so wild, crazy and just what the book heroine needed.
The men have been having sex with the women in her family for generations.....granny, great grand everybody...... how is this romantic???? Why is she different???? How do you move pass this????? Just when I thought I'd seen it all 🙄
Okay, hey everyone. I rounded up on the rating. It's gonna be a 3.5 for me. This book has a lot going on.
I did like the monsters and how she created them in her head to cope with trauma but it was far deeper than that. The smut was fun, and that was the highlight of the book.
On the plus side, I would give Sam Hall another go!
Phenomenal story!!! I so love Sam Halls stories. This one was so so good this is part 1 in her Fighting Monster books. Soon as I read the blurb I was hooked. Very well written. Love love the characters. Storyline so so good. So getting read to start part 2. I’m hooked on this story!! Definitely recommend.
To put it succinctly, this book is smut without plot. You think it's going somewhere, but really the story just drags on and on about nothing. The narrative is incredibly repetitive and occasionally repeats lines word for word. There are sprinklings of spelling and grammar mistakes. It's fine enough if you're purely in it for the monster porn.
Soft monsters, a little bdsm theme and a whole lot of shitty family and mental issues. I didn’t like the mother, but when it goes into detail of what she did, I was surprised all she got was a warning to leave. Two relationships floating around, the first with the quartet and then with Jasper and Maddox. I don’t know how I feel about Maddox, he seems like a charmer, but there was the whole thing with Alex and the feeling of an agenda. Really want Kylie to see the group together. The monsters were sweet, I liked them helping with grounding Morgan. Shame about the Gran and the lack of time they had together. Lot of sex and appendages. Looking forward to seeing how this one ends.
Morgan with her monster delusions…Gran dies and Morgan declared heir…funeral and shitty family scheming revealed…Maddox in love with Jasper…planning to make monsters corporeal.

Sam Hall has been on a roll lately with her fabulous releases and these books are continuing this trend. There has been an abundance of monster books lately but there are a few that do stand out and I think part one and two of this series are included in this category.
This author is a very well known for her amazing way with… Steam. Athough this book does, of course, have plenty, it also has an amazing story and very memorable characters. I laughed out loud multiple times and easily finished part one in one sitting.
I’m so grateful that part two came out right away because I want to know what’s going to happen.
This isn’t my kind of book, so I’m not going to go too deep into this, mostly because I’m not even sure how this ended up on my tbr.
It wasn’t badly written, all things considered I quite enjoyed the plot of the book (what little plot there actually was).
I really liked the aspect of Rosanna’s Coven following her bloodline following her death, and I am all the way committed to finding out more about the magic and Morgan and Rosanna.
I will say, the characters are a bit over the top - Kylie most of all, I really disliked her character.
I managed to finish but almost didn't. I liked the concept but the characters did not hold my interest for long. I skimmed a lot of the internal repetitive dialouge. Even most of the sex scenes were skimmable for me. I can't pinpoint where it turned for me but turn it did and I will not be continuing the series
Okay - this book started out so strong. I was instantly captivated by the opening chapter set in the 1600s, a witch hunt culminating in the burning of the woman’s male coven mates. It was eerie and interesting and mysterious, and when we flashed forward to present day I was on the edge of my seat, wondering where the story would go.
The heroine Morgan sees monsters. She thinks she’s crazy but doesn’t want to tell anyone or be cured because she cares about them deeply. When she’s called back to her grandmother’s home in England from where she grew up in Australia, she is named the heir and mystery upon mystery is layered.
Who are the monsters she sees? Were they always monsters? Is she crazy? Does she have… powers? How do the real life men she interacts with play into this?
My interest was captured until the end of this book, when it started to falter as I realized we were about halfway through (each book is ~330 pages) and there were no secrets revealed… minimal things learned… no relationship development with her monsters.
Also, a pet peeve - she’s described as Snow White: pale, pale skin, dark hair, dark eyes… so why is the cover model tan and blonde? And why does part 1 and part 2 have the same exact cover, when in paperback you still have to buy them separately?
CW: murder/witch trials; abuse (familial) - physical, emotional, medical; one of the men is with another woman who's not the heroine; violence
This book had some extreme highs and lows…. This is a first person pov. The female has been dealt with some heavy shit from her relatives. The only one on her side is her sister. Sometimes it was a bit confusing on who was who. For a bit I thought the spirits were possessing or really were the mortal men circling the fmc…. I was Not a fan of the male having a sexual encounter with another of her family members. Then less than 24 hours she’s putting on a show for him. That was probably the only character that had a few moments that just didn’t make sense emotionally for the fmc. Her emotions and feelings towards it, didn’t feel natural. Otherwise, the feelings, the emotions, her flash backs or seeing her ancestor in her visions… it was written so beautifully. Sometimes I couldn’t tell my own emotions vs the fmc. I was hooked from the very start. Can’t wait to read the next one. I’m so looking forward to when she lays a smack down on her family.
I swear my kindle app is working against me at this point, as this is the third time I'm trying to write a review that just disappears into thin air... A lesser woman would've taken the hints and stopped the madness, but I am clearly invested enough to make this work.
This book pulled me in from the first chapters. Yes, I found them quite gutwrenching, but they set up a great story that I was quickly invested in. It takes a bit of time to line up all the pieces to figure out how the past and present I swear my kindle app is working against me at this point, as this is the third time I'm trying to write a review that just disappears into thin air... A lesser woman would've taken the hints and stopped the madness, but I am clearly invested enough to make this work.
And invested I was from the very first chapters. It takes some time to see how the past and present line up, but it all flows together nicely as we're getting to know Morgan and her monsters along the way. Right off the bat it's clear that she is destined for more than she ever expected. As she comes into her rightful place, we also see how others were clearly set on the money and power that comes with her position, revealing some horrific details along the way of how they tried to prevent Morgan from her destiny.
But Morgan doesn't have to fight the baddies by herself. She's honestly an amazing character who mostly knows her worth and if she falters, her amazing sister Katie (seriously, I wish I had a sister like that) and her monsters are there in her corner to help her deal with her emotions.
I really enjoyed this book and will dive in the next installment asap because I simply need more of this.
A RH with hot monsters? I eagerly sign for it! And you want be disappointed by this book. Morgan lives in Australia and works as an independent illustrator. During her dreams, she's regularly visited by four hot monsters and they fulfill all her fantasies... But when her sister informed her that their grandmother, which who they didn't have any contact for years, asks them to go to England, she returns in the estate or her family and discovers little by little how her family is twisted and sadistic and that maybe her dreams are more vivids than she thought they were...
Morgan is a great character who suffered a lot since she was 18. Her mother tried everything to incapacitate her (make her believe she was pychotic for years) and prevent her to return one day in the family estate. Her confidence has been broken for so many years that she will have to do a long journey, helped by her monsters, a gamekeeper, a warlock, and her excentric sister (I'm a bit dubitative about her...she has a foul mouth sometimes and it's not always funny). The monsters are total hot psycho and be prepare for steam!!! 🔥🔥😏 And they may be other addition in the harem... There are a lot of mysteries surrounding Morgan, a lot of untold family secrets, and manipulations as well that make the story very interesting and keeps you reading it.
I'm enjoying this story, but I have to admit there are parts I'm really not enjoying. Everyone except for the heroine are coming into this with previous/established relationships. She is no innocent virgin, but the book starts off with the coven with another woman in the past. Then the reader finds out that they are for each heir of the family since the 1600s, some relationships, some not. Then there is the whole Jasper/Maddox thing. I'm just really wanting to see our girl have something that is just her own, something special as she Jas been through enough. She seems ok with it, though, so I'm moving on to book two to see how big this poly could is going to get.
Never read an RH with monsters in it but so glad that Sam is my go to. She did so well with this book. Every emotion, trauma and delight was felt as a reader. Being a Brit, I loved that it was set in the UK. Morgan isn't perfect and Sam details why well. She creates stories with links to mental health and toxicity of others well, so you don't feel like you're being dragged down yourself. I loved the beginning of Morgan's journey with her beloved monsters, and !maybe a couple of others along for the ride. Her sister is such a perfect partner in crime and I love a supportive best friend character in books. If you want something to pull you straight in and take you on a story like no other, with humour, lust, hotness added, then this is your jam😁
Morgan is a graphic artist who is living in Australia when she hears that her estranged grandmother is dying. Morgan, her sister and Mother race to the UK for her Grandmother’s last words and find that has been named heir of the estate. Morgan believes she sees things like monsters in her head, until she finds out that they are in fact real and her mother and others have been purposely letting her think she was crazy. However, no one will give her the answers that she needs? What else is her Mother and family members hiding from her?
“My monsters were mine. My secret, my dirty little fantasies, my guardians, and my saviors”
Woah! If you love monsters you will love this book! One of the things I loved most about this story is I really had no idea where it was going. I love when I’m reading and the author keeps me on my toes. I will say the first like 60% is heavy with angst. I love the progression of all the characters and their personalities. The author used a lot of good imagery so I really was able to immerse myself in the story. I will be reading the second book soon and I’m so intrigued and excited to see where this story goes,
What a great start to this series Its has everything I need in a book. Reverse harem.(of course) with monsters, almost to many sex scenes and an interesting plot line.
Recommend? Yup. Would I read more from this author? You bet yah.
Why did you read this book? It looked like an interesting reverse harem, and it had good ratings.
What format did you read this book in? Read it as an ebook on Kindle. . Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment? I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.
What genres do you think this book belongs to? Fantasy, Gay and Lesbian, Historical Fiction, Paranormal, Psychology, Romance, Spirituality.
What was your favorite part in the book? SPOILER ALERT My favorite scene is when Morgan is recovering in Jasper's bed. She notices a man's tie which is not Jasper's. This hints that Jasper is in an intimate relationship with another man. Considering the context, you can deduced it's Maddox.
Who would you suggest this book to? Anyone who likes weird reverse harem romances, monsters, and is OK with the trigger warnings below.
What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? I kind of liked it despite the weird tentacle porn. It's a unique take on literal monster love interests. The world building was good, and it made sense in context with the story. However, it was heart breaking that her family’s greed almost killed her. I have a soft spot for mental health issues, so I liked how they portrayed it in this story. I also like that there was consent all the way through the book. Overall, it was a surprisingly good reverse harem romance if you like monster erotica.
Are there any cliché scenes or concepts? (If yes, does the author add something unique to them?) Main Character is born with special powers, but the author adds a good reason within the story why she was born differently. Love interest insta-love the heroine, but the reason is because of the magic drawing them together. Despite the magic drawing them together they still date and try to get to know each other. I enjoyed the fact a love interest turned the main character down and only wanted to cuddle.
How intense are the intimacy scenes? They range but some of it is REALLY kinky. If you’re not into monsters, weird body parts, or BDSM play then skip this book. Also there is some male on male action in this book.
At what “burn” level is the romance? SPICY HOT. Monsters… enough said.
Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender? There are six love interests. Four of them are monsters; Simon-Satyr, Alaric-Minotaur (Fire breathing?), Rune-Mermaid (Tentacles), and Arne-Gargoyle. Jasper the games keeper/ green man. Lastly Maddox, Warlock and Jaspers lover.
Any trigger warnings? Racial and Religious: Prejudice, Witch Prosecution LGBTQ+: Forced Outing of Character Mental Health: Suicide Idealization, PTSD, Emotional Abuse, Controlling Parents, Panic Attacks, Trauma, Nightmares about Traumatic Events, Non-consent behavior Disabilities: Detailed Medical Talk, Seizures, Paralyzed, Locking up MH Patient against their will Sexual Content: Explicit Sex Scene, Masturbation, Blowjob, Violent Sex Violence and Death: Death, Death of a Loved One, Graphic Deaths, Murder, Execution, Burned at the Stake, Suffocation, Burning People, Extreme Violence, Gore, Torture, Mutilation, Child Abuse, Described Blood, Graphic Violence Other: Drugging Someone Against Their Will, Female Oppression
I can get behind a purely for-smut book, that's awesome and a lot of people enjoy those reads but don't tease me with what sounds like a real intriguing plot and give me nothing but introducing the MMCs through seemingly random sex scenes for over 90 pages. No, that's not exactly true, the prologue was actually very interesting, I wish the entire book had been written about that. The "warning" at the beginning of the book was not sufficient at all. Incest, child grooming, and nonconsent were just things I picked up within 90 pages.
The FMC has zero personality, she is a chore to follow along with. We got introduced to like 12 new characters all at once and I could not keep track of a single one. I do not mind harem (or reverse harem) stories at all, but the 4 (possibly 5?) guys are basically indistinguishable from each other. They also have no personality except "sex all the time" which, once again, is FINE but don't put the promise of a good plot in there.
(Spoilers)
As stated above, I did not finish this book but is she related to the guys she's sleeping with? In the prologue the "Green Man" stated she needed to sleep with her husband to pretend it was his baby she was having, but it would actually be the 4 guys. I don't have that wrong, right? I don't care that it's been 4 to 6 generations later, that's still disgusting and all I could think about the second they said the FMC's middle name, was the same name of the woman from the first chapter. Meaning she's her great (x4 to x6) grandmother! Gross!
Also do they sleep with all the heirs in the family? Does that mean they are fathering each new generation? Double gross!
One last thing, the grandmother introduces all the guys to the FMC when she was A CHILD. Knowing what her future would be like with them! I'm sorry but that's grooming, that is what that is, just because they waited until she was 18 (also disgusting) to sleep with her doesn't change the fact that it's grooming. And Japser, the Green Man, whatever he is, was (in the FMC own words) almost a teenager, she was a child, and they mentioned they shared "a look". Sir, that is a child!
I’ve been really torn with this book. I really appreciated how upfront the author was with trigger warnings at the beginning of the ebook (instead of having some crap saying go to their website for details). I enjoyed the authors writing, which is why I gave this 3 stars. The characters however were just lacking for me. Especially Morgan. I just did not like her. I realize she was horrifically emotionally abused not to mention medically buuuuttttt she’s just so freaking selfish. Like CONSTANTLY. Everything I highlighted in the book is because I was so upset by it. These men, these monsters were nothing but an easy screw. I get that for like 70% of the book she thought they were delusions but once she did know it was still all about her needs. She was even that way to the human guys telling us….
“Part of him wanted that, something sweet and safe. Something that would reinforce the idea of himself he liked to hold close” but that’s not what she “needed” so of course he didn’t get that. Over and over she was going things like this. Recognizing what these men wanted but ignoring that for her wants.
The worst for me though was Jasper. My freaking heart broke for him. “I’m destined to want you, to need you, to do any f$&:@ thing I can to keep you happy, so I wanted you to know what was going on, not just slip out clandestinely and…do what’s needed. If you wanted… If you were thinking today was the start of something, then I didn’t want to lie to you” Jasper tells her this after letting her know hr has to go and refuel Maddox bc of what her and Maddox did the night before. And instead of her worrying or caring that Jasper has to do something he may not be comfortable with she’s sitting there thinking how she feels how she shouldn’t have to be there for her. When he tells her why she automatically jumps into the defensive “so this is my fault?!” Type of mentality. I really don’t like that jasper is essentially being forced to “service” someone. Even if he’s willing to do it it feels too much like forced prostitution. That whole scene was just overtaken by Morgan. It felt heartbreaking for Maddox too….
“But to do that, I need to suck your very loyal gamekeeper’s cock, take him as deep as I can down my throat, while he puts his hands on my skull, cups my jaw, and imagines it’s you getting him off.” This being said by a man who is in love with Jasper. But of course it’s not about him or his feelings it’s how Morgan is taking it. If she’s ok.
So many problems with these characters. I just did not like their dynamics. Morgan was so important to everyone that no one else’s feelings seemed to be considered at all. I did like the storyline. I wanted to find out what happens how she gets these men free but I just can’t do it. I don’t want to read about how Morgan’s needs are always worried about and taken care of while the men are just there to do whatever the hell she needs and nothing else’s
