I don't like books where there appears to be more HEAD/INNER DIALOGUE THAN ACTUAL CHARACTER-TO-CHARACTER DIALOGUE, & I did NOT like the idea of a grown man being in ANY KIND OF INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUNG/NON-GROWN FEMALES. I ALSO FOUND THE TITLE UNBEARABLE.
I gave 3 stars because overall the story is well written (no grammatical errors)…but everything else would be a hard no for me. ***SPOILER***Knowing the kind of trauma Zara experienced, one would assume she has a serious case of white knight syndrome. Her level of immaturity was indescribable. Real talk, she needed some intense therapy…that should have been the basis of the storyline BEFORE she fell for her ex’s dad or any other man for that matter. I’ve enjoyed other books by this author, but this one not so much.
This is my second read from this author and it was just average. I got the sense while reading this book that the storyline would have made more sense if I read the series in order. Usually with romances, the books hold up on their own but not this time. Luckily, I quickly caught on to what was happening.
The whole time I read this I kept thinking the author has grown so much in her writing. This book was released over a year ago and the most recent book of hers was soo much better. What really annoyed me about this story was the FMC's immaturity. Granted she's 19, but she infuriated me at times! In the second half of the book, Zara comes around and readers understand her better. Matteo was a typical over-the-top alpha who loved Zara's crazy self. I don't want to give out spoilers but what he has to do in this book is something most parents don't get over and I think was well depicted.
Not sure if I'll continue this particular series, but this author is still really great, and would consider other books. JJ storylines are unique, to say the least.
I forced myself to get past these horrendous covers and read this series and I’m glad I did but as much as I would love to purchase these books I can’t because I refuse to have these ridiculous covers on my book shelves. Someone needs to explain to authors that they set themselves up for failure when they allow their books to be published with covers like this. Please for the love of god change them. I could’ve made a better cover on an app on my phone. Ridiculous. But the books are pretty good.
I don't really know what to say about this book... It was good but also very weird and the characters did a lot of talking in their head and repeating things over and over, so much so I had to skip paragraphs. The main characters relationship was a bit strange not just because of the age difference but Zara was written very young minded.
One thing I did like was that this was the only book that actually took the time to fall in love before having sex versus the opposite. Overall I would give it a 3.5.
I'm not a huge fan of age gap especially if the word "teen" is associated with age. I also couldn't get past her attitude towards him for no reason. Although his son was an a$$, can't get past him killing his own son. But I definitely enjoyed the previous two books.
This is the first book from this author that I absolutely love. It's was so good. Finally a heroine who wasn't pathetic or a damsel. Zara had spirit, fire, & personality. This book had everything. One of my favorite parts was Zara sneaking on that boat & shooting that gun. I had almost given up on this author, yes this book had the same tired elements her other books had that I've read. A black woman that used & abused with a horrible upbringing, this same backstory has this author in vice grip. What was refreshing about this was the bad stuff didn't define Zara. Her story arc wasn't all abuse & racism. This story wasn't weighted down by racist name calling & this black woman whole personality wasn't over the top self-loathing. I loved that Zara went to Paris too. This also lacked the perpetual victimhood of her black heroine that is so prominent in her other books. I hope she has more characters like Zara. It was also great to see this character not written like she looks like the elephant man. That was also a departure from her other books.
Zara had been through so much in her life especially by the men like Eddie who claim to love and was the cause of so many of her nightmare, but when Matteo found her she was this little bitty girl who he instantly felt the need to protect. She was his sons girlfriend, but as the story unfold Matteo learns all the things Zara had endured even those because of his son. Zara began to heal under Matteo protection and as they both began to learn each other they began to develop feelings which they both hid from each other especially Matteo, Zara was a little girl but when that no longer mattered they had to deal with th ups and downs of their determination to stay together
Zara, beautiful girl, people think that she is a little ditzy … in a way she is because she is very young, only a teenager and has been through things that would make a growing up crumbled. Fast forward, Matteo had to rescue her from a very horrible situation, causing by Eddie, he wanted to rescue her not falling for a teenager, but the heart wants what the heart wants, it doesn’t discriminate,… what a 21 years gaps !? The ditzy girl finally showed them that she is a Mafia Princess, not a stupid little girl.
This is the best book out of the series! I loved Zara and Matteo. She was young but her life with Eddie (first 2 books in series) was an eye opener. Unfortunately, Eddie’s demise was the best thing that could have happened in order for Zara to live her life without looking over her shoulder. Matteo, what can I say about this older man and barely a woman situation? It was a May and December relationship but it worked. They loved each other. Understood each other. They were each other’s ride or die. A must read!!
I must say that I am very disappointed with this series. Jamila usually does a good job with her story lines & plot twists. However, it was like she rushed the series. It seems incomplete, unrealistic and extremely childish. At no time did it seem as if Mateo was this dangerous man. I had to abandon the story after Mateo & Zara were intimate. The love scenes were blah at best.
Mateo, Van & Enzo were not even hardcore. Storyline s say Mafia but they were FAR from it. Don't bother it's a waist.
I read the first book in the series and Zara seemed like she would have an interesting story and background. I was truly curious about how her character arc could be expanded. In the end I couldn’t get through this book. I don’t mind age gaps but the maturity gap was just too much for me to handle, plus I just don’t get how a girl with the amount of trauma she had and no therapy could have a physical relationship with anyone. A bit too unrealistic to me.
The author advertised this as a plus sized romance on social media. I made it halfway through the book before I realized this wasn’t true. When we meet our female lead she is underweight from being held prisoner so I figured that would change. Nope instead we get to 6 months later and she’s still tiny. If I wanted to read a mafia romance with a petite female lead there are a million of those. Nothing wrong with that just don’t advertise it as what it’s not. The writing style also wasn’t the best & the female lead made nonsensical choices.
Matteo is so loving and understanding when it comes to Zara. He is not trying to change her mind, not trying to sway her in this decision or that idea, he is simply an observer when it comes to her. His interactions and conversations are always in this manner; to understand her. I’m surprised that he doesn’t punish, shame or judge her after he’s heard her explanations! Nope! He simply adjusts whatever he needs to to be in her orbit. He was the one that was forced to submit not her.
This was worth the wait. I loved watching how Matteo and Zara both learned to trust, love and heal. Learning the back story was hard, but I made it through. Despite the age gap, it works. When you love, your heart has no age difference that can’t be worked through. As much as I liked this book, Enzo is still my Amalfi Coast man. Can’t wait to get to Long Island!
Jamila has done it again. When I tell you, I was not expecting this because of the age gap. Zara(19) and Matteo(40) are an odd cute couple. Matteo has agreed to protect Zara and take care of her. Over the few months, they got to know each other and became closer. Zara has had a rough, troubled past and doesn’t know who to trust and what’s real. This is a HEA, so I highly recommend this series. *SN this is a Dark Romance.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading the 3rd book in this series! Zara and Matteo are a couple to reckon with! I couldn't believe some of the things that Zara did! It was like she wanted to draw attention and trouble to herself! Matteo was a lifesaver! I didn't agree with the age difference, but no one chooses who the heart loves! I do believe others will enjoy this read so I recommend this book/series!
A wild and crazy Italian mafia romance with compelling characters and a somewhat darker undertones within this story. Two people who have a twisted and horrific past come together and fight together to find a new beginning among violence, cruelty and pain. The author has a unique ability to present her readers with a view of people who have different backgrounds and cultures but manages to bring them together.
I like this book is very interesting and it was very exciting to read and could not put this book down because I want to know what is going on I wanted to know about our life I wanna know what happened to this little girl and then I was know what happening why he ran away instead it was very etresting and I could not put it down I like this artist It is great
While this book is dark and triggering on some levels the darkness is very serious but in the next breath of a sentence the comments will have you lol and shaking your head at the antics of Zara and Matteo while death is prevalent in the mafia some are harder than others...Loved this book covered many topics great read👏👍😘😍😉😏😊😆😀😃😁😄😅😂😎🙋
I am not sure why the title said a dark BWWM Italian Mafia because I didn't read anything that could be close to dark in this story. This was a good story, and I loved the hot romance between the characters. All the stories have some grammar errors, but not enough to put off. I recommend reading this and look forward to reading the next series.
This was a great finale to a wonderful series. Once again, Jamila did the dang thang and told a great story in a heartwarming way. She had me gripping my seat from beginning to end and even crying at some points. Great wrap-up. Worth the read.
It was sad about all the things that happened to Zara from a child up til seventeen, Matteo need a women like Zora in his life to help him see what love was all about.
I really enjoyed the rest of this series. However this particular book did not have enough realism. The female character was not believable. And the hero was too weak. Disappointing.
I love how mateo changed his ways to protect his woman after all the abuse she’s been through. So glad she was able to find her happily ever after. And all the women also
the fmc is so cute and I felt so bad for her backstory. the romance is nice but some of the "old man" references irked my soul. Didnt feel super close to the characters but everything made sense
Beautiful story. Sometimes it’s better with older men. You have to be to accept their over protectiveness. Zara had a troubled life, but Matteo was her guardian.
