Hyperthymesia. Those with this condition can remember every detail of their lives from something as significant as the world’s turning point to something as small and as insignificant as a minor fleeting thought. They cannot forget and their thirst for knowledge allows them to be considered a genius in some senses.
Legend has it that Ji Yushi was this kind of genius.
In addition, it was said that he was gay and very beautiful.
As soon as the news that he was going to support Tianqiong’s seventh squad broke out, it sent everyone buzzing.
Everyone knew that the captain of the seventh squad, Song Qinglan, was a hoodlum and deeply homophobic.
He not only relied on his super-powerful abilities to become the dark horse on the battlefield in less than two years, but he also hates it when those at the top forces a flower vase* into his squad.
Sure enough, Song Qinglan announced in front of everyone, “Useful? Us brothers are going out there working ourselves to the bone, we don’t need a little genius who can only speedread quantum waves!”
Later.
The squad was forced into a dire situation during their mission.
That beautiful little genius calmly continued, every gunfire hitting the mark, his fighting power peaking.
Song Qinglan begged in front of everyone, “Adviser Ji, stay.”
In the end, he added, “I’ll work myself to the bone for you.”
*****
Ji Yushi had a secret.
He would often be awake at night, suffering from memory overload and recurring nightmares.
There was only one thing that could let him fall asleep peacefully.
And that was Song Qinglan.
*Flower vase: Someone who only looks pretty but can’t amount to much
Okay I was confused for about 40% of this book but that didn't bother me because I LOVED Ji Yushi and Song Qinglan so much. For some reason my brain does not process books with time travel/time loops very well so I just accepted that I wouldn’t fully understand it and kept going. Each arc has a little bit of a summary at the end which was nice and Weibo has a diagram of the Ouroboros arc that helped tremendously. The confession scene was everything I hoped for after all the misunderstanding and miscommunication 🥰
I definitely recommend this book if you like these tropes and are up for a little bit of a brain challenge!
✔️Sci-Fi with a bit of horror but nothing too bad (zombies) ✔️Infinite flow/survival ✔️Time travel/world hopping ✔️Fast paced and action packed ✔️Smart MC/ML ✔️Team/crew ✔️Slow Burn ✔️Misunderstanding/miscommunication
What would you do if time travel was possible? If in the future, you had the chance to go back and fix your mistakes? Will you take up the offer or would you be a silent observer? Recording what truly happened. If human race truly managed to breakthrough and understand time travel, will it being a true change??? What will our present be if we change our future? So many questions lie with a simple theory and Must tries to make head or tail with this. Time travel and future of human race is something that has been imagined by so many people. Either it could be Star Trek, either it could be Martian. Simple stories that ultimately rely on the imagination of the contemporary man. Despite all of this, such stories need a lot of thinking. Loop holes and plot holes are meant to appear in such complex stories so it’s only normal to have intricate plot lines that don’t contradict each other. So it takes a lot to write such novels without making the reader overwhelmed too. Mist is such a novel that takes a simple imaginary story that ultimately manages give an easy to read plot. I would not stay that the author has taken liberties and it’s without fault but for most of the novel, the story is well written with characters that have redeemable characteristics. One thing in the novel is we have our protagonists fall to the typical, cold athletic man and fair genius man trope but at this rate I’m immune to this recurrent trope. As long the story is well written, I’m willing to read it. And Mist was such. The chapter are relatively shorter so the 106 chapters does not make the story that long. As a matter of fact it can be read quite fast and the arcs themselves don’t drag. At the end we get a bit angst which left me wondering for a minute there, will the author give us a sad ending, but fortunately it was a happy ending. Even though, the story itself touches on the subject of tjme travel, the moral integrity shown in the story is what really touched me. Some would not agree with me but for my understanding that stood out. The book also slightly reminded me of Can Ci Pin of Priest but with a much easier to understand plot. In the end, will the human race truly achieve such success in technology and honestly how would that mold us in the future?
I've always been in love with stories about time travel, especially if it's done well. And Mist is definitely one of those well done. Reading novels about time travel requires a lot of effort and focus because it will only goes two ways for the readers, either you will fail to understand it and leave you confuse, or you will feel confuse but you will still hit all the marks in the end. Maybe because both the author and the translator done a great job in creating and translating this wonderful novel, though I lose most of my brain cells reading this, the flow of the time travel plot is clear as day to me. The story has another level of complexity and you'll never know the actual sequence of the events but it was supposed to work that way because all the events are flowing in circle, no beginning and no ending.
I admire the way the author scattered a lot of foreshadowing all throughout the novel, and in the end you'll realize that the seemingly casual words that was thrown at the beginning actually carried deeper meaning. That's why it was really important to focus on the MC and ML's words. It would leave you speechless once you discover all the hidden foreshadows. The plot gets thicker and thicker each moment and you'll be reluctant to put it down even for a short break. That's the reason why I binge read this novel in a single breath. The mind-blowing plot twists are amazing!
All the characters are great!
The ML is supposed to be the homophobic, straight guy but in the end he's just a deeply closeted gay (exact words from the MC) without a single awareness. He didn't even realize that his 'first love' from kindergarten already cemented his sexual orientation. He was 'homophobic' because of his 'trauma' that he experienced from his creepy gay suitor and ended up generalizing all the gay guys. He was the typical 'judging the book by its cover' person and he really underestimated the MC a lot at the beginning. And that exact attitude comes back to bite him in the ass and slap his face hard in the future. I don't hate his character and I actually find him interesting. Introducing him this way meant that he was going to go through a lot of character development, and I love great character development that happens naturally.
The MC is this indifferent, calm and collected guy with a cold, pretty face. He's an open gay and proud of his sexual orientation. I loved it whenever the ML shows his disdain towards the MC, saying that he should just stay as the team's flower vase and avoid doing something that will drag the team down and just lay down and win or that he looked so fragile and might not even able to protect himself, and the MC was like *shrugs shoulders* and didn't even give a single fuck. Since he has a condition called Hyperthymesia that makes him remember every single details that he saw, felt and heard, he was not only the brain of the team that analyzes the situation, he also has a huge contribution in making their team complete the mission. Not only that, because he has the ability to remember everything, he would certainly not let a single grievance go unreturned. He was a vengeful little devil. Do something bad and he will surely write the note down. The moment that you already forget about it, that's the time he will make you pay.
The MC and the ML really complement each other. The way their relationship just smoothly and naturally progressed. The tension even in their 'enemy stage' is palpable and the slowly building up romance is perfectly made. The ML's feeling towards the MC is natural, from disdain --> appreciation and respect --> care --> love, it didn't feel awkward at all. The ML slowly felt the 'foreign' feeling inside of him and only thought that he cared for him as a teammate, but when he realized the true meaning of his feelings, he was not in denial just because he thought he was a straight guy and tried to brushed it away. No, he didn't do that. He accepted it and finally realized that he can actually have that kind of feeling towards the MC, regardless of the sexual orientation. The fluff that comes after the confession makes me so giddy, I actually found myself grinning countless times.
Also, the guys from the seventh squad, I can't say enough good things about them. They're all so funny, lively, loyal and so likeable. I adore their relationship as a team so much. I especially loved them after the confession part. They're all like a mischievous children teasing and pairing their friends together and they're the biggest shipper of the MC and ML.
All in all, this novel is highly recommended! I only have limited words to describe how much amazing this was. It was so worth it!
TO WHOEVER MADE THIS APPEAR IN MY HOME PAGE I HOPE YOU HAVE THE LONGEST AND HAPPIEST LIFE, 5 STAR READ BOOKS ONLY AND THAT YOUR BED BE ALWAYS WARM AND COZY.
I absolutely loved the relationship dynamic of our two leads. THEY ARE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER. THE YEARNING! THE LONGING! DESTINED FOR EACH OTHER!
We can’t forget about the rest of Squad 7 who I loved every one of them. The way they all trust in each other wholeheartedly creating such a strong bond. 🥹
This was crazy with the whole time traveling thing ngl 😅 and I won’t lie I pretended I understood for the most part (I fear the book is too smart for my little brain) but I still ate it up and nodded along the way. 😙
Towards the end I was emotionally wrecked with how the story unfolds realizing how everything ties up. UGH MY HEART. It ends so beautifully too and I’ll never forget how warm hearted and emotional it left me feeling.
An unlimited flow webnovel, which basically means that the story revolves around characters being in a space away from reality, solving puzzles, or advancing in games (similar to The Earth is Online). I was in the mood for this type of story after binging Squid Game some time back and feeling nostalgic for The Earth is Online but not wanting to reread if.
This is a fairly short novel, with two main characters. The protagonist is Ji Yushi, who is very intellectual, introverted and solitary. He is driven to solve a mystery in his past that was a huge influence on his personality, his beliefs and way of life. The second character is Song Qinglan, who is confident, assertive and commanding.
The book is split into a number of arcs, all of which revolve around time travel. Song Qinglan and Ji Yushi get to know each other and their relationship develops as they solve the time-related mysteries in each arc.
Sooo... This is a 3.5 star. It started out really strong. I love stories with mysteries and puzzles, and the novel's exploration of time travel and time itself is incredibly fun. Time is not linear, but past, present, and future exist at the same time; the past causes what we see of the present now, but the future caused/causes what happened in the past. Time is circular. It reminded me very much of the really amazing Netflix show, Dark, except without the incest lol. Incredibly fun to see how the entire timeline unfold, how various events in the past/present/future weave back and forth to influence each other.
However, the relationship between the two had very low emotional stakes. It was fun at first when they were getting to know each other, but the second half really felt lackluster to me. I suspect that it is because the writing style, which I found a bit plain and amateurish at times. Also, the way the two characters are written feels a little bit like wish fulfillment. Ji Yushi is a mix of woobiefied and Gary Stu lol.
And also, the ending was kind of disappointing? After dropping the bomb about how what happened with his father was planned waaay back in the even further back past, and also caused by events in the future, the novel then wraps this up in about 10 chapters. There's no further significance or development, and this plot line that drives Ji Yushi throughout the entire novel just gets put away like that. You never find out more about the Tianqiong system that kidnapped them, what happened/is happening/will happen with his father. I felt really dissatisfied when I finished it.
Embarrassingly written. Before I mention anything else, it’s cartoonishly racist—the only black/brown person in this book is an evil villain who takes the main character hostage. He has no name and is only referred to as the ‘dark-skinned man.’ Are you kidding me? It’s a time travel novel with several ‘arcs’ that usually follow the missions of Squad 7, a task force composed of Ji Yishu (gay) and captain Song (homophobic), as well as other miscellaneous characters who are never fleshed out and have the significance of a houseplant. First of all, the plot is awful. The first arc is actually pretty decent and is a fairly complex time travel mystery, but it all falls apart from there. The ending leaves many major plot lines unexplained or vague (what exactly is that universal robot that gives them these missions and how did Yishu survive the gunshot?!). Next, the romance is laughable. Yishu’s homosexuality is treated like a carnival prop that leaves me seriously wondering if the author has ever met a single queer person in their life. Song’s “homophobicness” is also just as ridiculous, in that he is clearly not homophobic, but is also rumored to disinfect rooms that gay people have entered to remove the gayness (what?!?!). Also every paragraph is usually interrupted by another paragraph describing how attractive the two MLs are, using the exact same descriptors over and over and over again. Its not at all an exaggeration to say that the MCs will be in a life or death situation only to pause and think to themselves, “I might die but he is so tall and has such broad shoulders and a nice voice and creamy lips”, or “unlike my masculine beard his chin probably can never grow a beard, that’s so hot (Captain song seriously said this!)” I won’t comment on prose because I was reading from a free translation (thanks KK translates). Overall, my already tenuous grasp on literacy has been immeasurably damaged.
The slow burn chemistry between the main character and his love interest was off the CHARTS, holy shit. Loved the development of the relationship, loved how much the squad felt like a family, loved the twisty plot. Probably the best portrayal of LGBT+ characters in a Chinese webnovel I've read. Absolutely obsessed.
This one here is my fault. I simply expected something mindblowing and complex (considering the ratings and reviews and recs), and instead got a very straightforward novel I will not think twice about. But as a quick read that doesn't require much thought it's enjoyable enough.
Was Mist possibly the most amazing book with the most complex and intricately interwoven story I will ever read?
First arc [Ouroboros] was perhaps one of the best arcs/books I've read that deals with parallel universes/timelines and how to explain a situation from the causality angle. If this book would've ended after this first arc I would've still given it 10 stars.
Then we go to Second arc [Chaos]; what happens with the universe and time when we abuse of our power to try to control what can not and should not be controlled?
As if that was not enough, the book takes us to ask us more existential questions with the Third Arc [Who am I]. If I could have everything I wanted, everything I do not have but have always wished because of an altered reality, due to a decision made in the future, what would I do? This arc was extremely scary for me, the chase scenes felt so viscerally frightening.
That should've been enough, right? No. Because after that the book takes us to the next arc: [Rubik's Cube]. I suck.at spatial puzzles and this one actually fried my brain multiple times because for the love of me I could not just imagine moving the damn balls around without having an actual Rubik's cube.
The final 2 arcs [Our Reality] and [Overload] were perfectly executed to show the big picture that throughout the entire book we kept getting glimpses, that were seemingly insignificant but were all connected.
"Time was inherently linear and sequential. the process by which things change sequentially was time itself. But what if time was a puddle of water? Without a beginning or end, without the concern of before or after, it remains stopped in place, only rippling as things change but always remaining in its original state."
I love the main couple so damn much. Two powerful badasses who unconsciously at first, and then very purposely complement and respect each other's strengths. I can not begin to describe the immeasurable satisfaction I got it from a line Song Qinglan (ML) says regarding his Advisor Ji, which accurately encompasses who Ji Yushi(MC( is: "he doesn't need protection."
We all deserve to have the kind of supportive colleagues like the 7th squad. I adore those clowns! Chun'er please stop chasing girls!!! *sigh*
Happy ending. Wonderful extras. Brilliant book.
Oh. Regarding my initial question? A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!!!!
Oh, to be Wei Feng Ji Xu.
One of the best science fiction I ever read. The way time travel and parallel universe is science here and not a mare transmigration. I would love to reread to understand the sequence and big circle things. Highly recommended
Such an amazing book. I loved this story so much, it's very captivating. I fell in love with the protagonists from the start, their relationship dynamics were top notch. The author did an amazing job with this book, the story was planned out from the very beginning, every plot point and every incident was calculated in a very satisfying way. The time and space setting of this book is so very interesting, I honestly couldn't put the book down. The romance felt real and heartwarming, I couldn't wait for them to get together and when they did, it was in a very lovely way. The side characters were all adorable, I couldn't get enough of their bantering and lovely interactions. This book is truly *chef's kiss*. ❤️
You do not often find me in the sci-fi genre, as books in this genre either confuse me or are such explosive reads that my mind is still grappling with the story.
Mist would be categorized as the latter, where my poor mind is still trying to come to grips with the whole premise of the story. (Cue: incoming bookish slump). Without giving the story away, Mist is essentially about time travel, the cause/effect concept and the circularity of time. I find it amusing to see an author’s note at the start of the story to request the reader not to read ahead or indulge in spoilers because it will spoil the whole premise of it. After reading the book, I can understand why.
It boggles my mind how the author can even write such a complex story on the premise of time travel and space without losing a few brain cells in the process. As I read an unofficial translation of the book, I have to acknowledge that the translator did a fantastic job translating the story, which makes it very clear. The author also has a sneaky way of adding hidden hints in the characters’ interactions throughout the book. I had to backtrack to reread some parts to understand, finally! From the end to the start, the plot grips you like no other, which leads to me almost binge-ing this book. THOSE FREAKING TWISTS made me scream at the book several times.
Let’s also not forget about the characters. Song Qing Lan, the ML, is the Captain of the 7th Guardian Squad under the time travel system. His team unexpectedly loses their scout to injuries and needs to find a replacement asap. Enter Ji Yushi, the MC and a solo-ist who fits the requirements as a scout and reluctantly joins this team of hooligans. He also has Hyperthymesia, which allows him to remember every detail he sees or hears, no matter how briefly. He is also the team's brains and expectedly earns the team’s respect. Both of them got off on the wrong start due to some misunderstandings, especially with the MC being vengeful, which leads him to throw out unexpected comments, adding further to the misunderstandings.
The character development was gradual, and the slow-burn chemistry between the ML and MC is undeniable. I was glad the ML didn’t struggle with denial once he realized his feelings for the MC. I'm so happy we got those extra stories showing fluff moments in their lives.
My only tiny issue was that the last arc regarding the MC’s past could have been tied up better. There were moments where I questioned the plot points, as it felt like it was brushed over with no real consequences and a too-abrupt ending when this was the whole driver of the MC’s life.
Note: This book is not licensed, and I read a fan translation
A sci-fi danmei novel set in a future world where time travel is possible. Our MCs are part of a special squad sent to the future to fix problems they can foresee. On one particular trip, errors happened and things turned dangerous..
I love the quick-pace action, and the intricately woven plot. I’m also fond of the MCs, especially Ji Yushi, who’s a genius suffering from hyperthymesia, a condition that enables the mind to remember everything and forget nothing, even the smallest details, year in year out. He’s quirky and seemingly antisocial, but inside he’s a strong-willed, capable and dependable partner who could turn the tables and save the team’s lives in several occasions. In Ji Yushi, the author has created a very fascinating and unique character.
Somehow I couldn’t enjoy this book as much as I should, or as it deserves. I can’t pinpoint why. Everything is right up my alley, sci-fi, enemies-to-lovers trope, quirky characters,.. Maybe it’s because the writing doesn’t quite gel with me, or it could be the convoluted plot that tired me out sometimes. I like it, but don’t really love it.
If not for a few parts of the wording and the Rubik's cube arc I probably would have rated it 5 stars. The planning of this story was so good I was like 😨😳😲 the whole time reading it. This is my first media that heavily involves time travel and I feel like the author did a really good job of addressing/ minimising the impact of plot holes and ethical/ morality issues regarding it. I really want to engrave this story into every part of my being and will be sad that I won't experience this again for the first time
The plot was super interesting got me hooked all the time ! Their banters were so funny until things started to turn out seriously and omg the starting got me shook like not even 10 chaps and things started to happen anyway i love how great characters were and all the theories and stuffs were so cool ! I learned so many theories from the book + song qinglan and ji yushi total cutieee😩😩 and extras were so cuteee please read 10/10
what do i even say about this book? to me, finding a book where the first moment i start reading, i'm completely absorbed and don't want to put it down, is very rare lately. so i've been treasuring these type of books.
there's a lot of brain-fuckery in here, too, and then there are parts where you're like, OH, so that's how that is. love those moments of realization.
overall, i thoroughly enjoyed this book and i'm so glad i was able to discover it amongst the very many danmei books there are out there.
holy shit this was such a brainrot in a good and a little masochistic kind of way. the foreshadowings and how everything that has happened is predestined and connected to each other, tied up as the story progresses, are mind-blowing! i feel like my brain is being dissected while im still conscious because wHAT THE FUCK IS THIS. every beginning of the story arcs keeps on making me say "what the hell is going on" because of how confusing and complex their assigned missions. however, because ji yushi is a genius, every logic behind the missions is laid bare in the end, and the way it was explained is enough for my slowpoke brain to catch up.
every story arcs is phenomenal on its own. ouroborus arc really drew me in, and i couldn't get enough of the fights, sacrifices, and the eureka moments of the seventh squad when they have been analyzing the time anchor and the time loop of the planet. i was glad that i read this when i am in the right state of mind because this really made me use my brain so much. what a brain exercise, LMAO. everything they did was tied together. little did i know that this connection of both the past and present is happening on a much wider scale than i had expected....
the following arc, chaos arc, was okay. the only redeeming part that i liked is when song qinglan got kidified and the seventh squad doted (teased) him LMAO. on the other hand, who am i arc is kind of depressing, yet at the same time scary, that it gave me goosebumps. it was depressing because the seventh squad thought that they were in their reality but instead, they were transported into a parallel world where the things they wanted, they have on the parellel world. it was terrifying because i was imagining the scenes i imagine these scenes so clearly in my mind i had to stop reading because i was genuinely scared.
meanwhile, rubiks cube arc broke my mind. i was actually considering dropping this book because of how complicated the mechanics of the rooms are. there was a considerable amount of action between song qinglan and ji yushi in our reality arc and their relationship improved. this arc is so fickle because i thought ji yushi was a goner, and it made me sad, but when he came back, i became happy again about the amount of romantic scenes between sql & jys. but then the following scenes BROKE ME APART. everything is predestined. they can never escape the clutches of time because if they were to try diverging to the original chain of events, everything in the future and the present they belonged to would fall apart. it kinda felt anticlimactic as it was closing to end. i was still amazed at how everything was tied up, but with regards to ji yushi's father, it falls flat for me. the cause of death is so-so and not that surprising. i can't really point my finger as to where it feels lacking, but it just feels really rush ?
nonetheless, this was still an amazing and mind-altering book to read. i love sci-fi books like these—not overwhelmingly jargonized by scientific stuff, and one can actually understand the concept that they were trying to portray in the book. the buildup of every arc is pretty gripping and really makes their reader on the edge of their seat, and the resolution of every conflict is satisfying. the romantic relationship of song qinglan & ji yushi is slow burn and the way they repressed their feelings for one another is so good ! the book perfectly complements a balance of seriousness and humor, which the comedy is mostly on the funny misunderstanding of song qinglan and the interactions of the seventh squad.
bye prolly gonna pick up another book similar to this because this was such a satisfying read (tho my eyes hurt because i read nonstop lmao)

I perhaps had rated 50+ books and almost every review started with this exact same phrase but i've never been THIS sincere . After all, this was masterpiece; god-tier; a true art; A VERY FUCKING TRUE FORM OF A TRUE ART.
You know what? At first, what i think particularly good is just how the plot unfold and the plot twists. the concept behind this book, also, is particularly interesting; for i was very interested and paid a close attention to quantum realm theory and time travelling. But i was thinking that the characters are kinda vanilla, bare-minimum, and very typical mass produced blue-print like any other gong and shou in danmei (especially them kinda remind me of a certain pair from another danmei). For those reasons i thought that 4 stars would be reasonable, i think it suited this book the most; afterall there is no such strong connection between me and this book.
But what the freaking fuck! Which fool would rated this 4 stars?! After i get through a half of this fucking book, i don't even think 5/5 is valuable enough. HELLO? THIS BOOK IS 29388283/10. EXCEEDED THE BEST BOOK ON EARTH. Probably a masterpiece of the century! Plot? VERY FUCKING GREAT. Character? LOVABLE. Plot twist? BIZZARE. Concept? UNIQUE. EXTRAORDINARY. ASTONISHING.
SECOND OF ALL, THIS IS GOD-TIER.
THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS VERY FUCKING DEEPLY ENGRAVED TO MY HEART. I never thought of getting any lover for the rest of my life but the way Song Qinglan and Ji Yushi treated each other is making me ENVIOUS AS FUCK. YOU WONT BELIEVE ME.. BUT THEIR CONNECTION ARE AMAZING. Besides the fact that they are on par (which happen to be common in danmei anyway)(unlike some manga who thinks that perhaps one side need to be fragile and delicate), the fact that they have a tacit understanding, and the fact that they love e/o so bad they go through life and death together and even SQL becoming super not hesitating when he sacrifice his times and even souls to save Ji Yushi at the last arc. NAUR OH MY GOD THAT WAS LITERALLY
BEST
DYNAMIC.
MOREOVER, THEY ARE SUPER HEALTHY. Forced intimate contact? NONE. Did they ask for permission before kissing? YES.
WHO THE FUCK WOULD HATE THEM BEING TOGETHER?
MOST OF ALL, THE SUPPORTING CHARACTERS ARE ALL AMAZING TOO. TANG LE AND LI CHUN ARE ESPECIALLY FUNNY. AND I LOVE TANG QI. FOR GOD'S SAKE. THEY ARE ALL LOVABLE.
The truth is if i'm not in a busy state where i have to paid attention to my college and lectures, i'd literally finish this books in a day. This book is so page turning, always making me guessing in every pages. The analysis and action are all elaborated clearly.
Although indeed there is some explanations that make me need to go over one scene once again because the concept is too complicated. But it doesn't matter! The theories related to time relativity and space relativity or quantum real theories ain't really difficult anyway to follow. Most of all this books doesn't have a lot of philosophical deep understanding or uses a lot of metahporic tragedy or sentence. And if you're an english speaker, you'd found the english translation especially very easy and good (this thanks to KKtranslates).
You see, this is probably sounds a lot like an exaggeration. Maybe you'd read the first few chapters and found the trope begin with a particular cliché trope and especially found SQL trait to be too "blueprint". But DON'T STOP THERE. I swear it was a tip of an iceberg that would fascinate you to death.
I also talk a lot about the plot twists in such an exaggerated manner but i'm serious it's unexpected. Maybe there are some that are expected and you had already guess that was what happened but mostly it was surprising.
So you see... This review isn't created for the spur of a moment. I can guarantee that you'd truly, sincerely enjoy this book if you try. Best best best read in my entire life. Even surpassing unforgettable books that i found memorable in my heart 😂
If Goodreads won't give us a half star rating .. they should've give an option to rate a book for infinity. At least, for this book, even number can't be valuable enough.
Ok that's all for me, in conclusion this book is insanely worth a read. 18378273/10.
p.s. i'm serious, this book shouldve got more MORE attention than it gained. 4 ratings??? Earth have 7 billion people in the planet!! Why the fuck there are only 4 people out of millions who used Goodreads rated this book??? p.s.s. yes this is underrated. there are not even audio drama ??? i just hope that after the manhua was released this book will finally gain the recognition it deserves. p.s.s.s. on par with some of my favorite books, i'd wrote a whole thesis about this book too (because this long ass review is indeed not enough) p.s.s.s.s. Einstein should take a note from this book p.s.s.s.s.s. but don't let Elon Musk see this or he would create Tianqiong white-washed company p.s.s.s.s.s.s. let me tell you something interesting. Even Apollo kowtow to wei feng ji xu
What a ride this was!! This book is like an intricately wowen spider web, that looks complicated but somehow makes sense once you see the big picture of how everything is inter-connected to everything. I enjoyed reading how the author managed to give meaning to the most insignificant incidents and making me go back between chapters to reread things. All in all this is a beautifully written masterpiece.
He didn’t want to see it. He didn’t want to remember it either. But there was no one here telling him not to look.
'Mist' was an interesting and fun read for the most part. I quite enjoyed reading about the missions faced by squad 7. A lot of elements of time travel like time loops have never been easy for me to understand, so I did not force myself to understand it. Even then I had a good time reading about Ouroboros, Chaos and the Bubble World. Even the Rubik's Cube arc, which was my least favourite was still fun to read. I could not put down the book during those parts, I pretty much flew through half the book in one sitting. The book had a lot of funny moments too and I laughed out loud at some antics of Ji Yushi, Song, Qinglan and the others. The 'homophobia' of the "steel straight" Song Qinglan and the rest of squad 7 while being ridiculous gave way for some hilarious moments. Song Qinglan's misunderstandings about Ji Yushi's relationship status was definitely a highlight. I did like the dynamics of the main couple for the most part. Song Qinglan realising that he was falling for Ji Yushi was cute. They had some very heartwarming scenes even before they got together and they were really cute. I wish we could've gotten to know Song Qinglan a bit more out of the relationship and his career.
Now let me talk about my main problems, the reason why this book ended up being a 3 star read. I was not a fan of the way the narration talked about the main characters' sexuality. It's one thing with the characters having misconceptions about being queer, but the way certain stuff was being talked about was icky. Sometimes I felt like the author had never met or even read about queer people. My main issue was all the talk about how Song Qinglan had changed his sexuality, like??? Things like bisexuality exist?? It was such a bummer to have that sort of idea thrown at my face again and again. Plus I was not a huge fan of some of the language used during intimate scenes and the like. 'Emanating male hormones', 'explosive power of muscles', 'invading his mouth' - I guess there might be an audience for stuff like that but for me, I was cringing the whole time.
Another complaint that I have is that the arc with Ji Yushi's father was not as well-developed as I would have liked it to be. It felt quite rushed and a lot of things felt under explained. There was a lot of potential to have some emotionally charged scenes and even some tear-jerker moments, but it felt like the author was in a hurry to wrap things up. The last scene especially felt that way. Plus, I feel like we should have taken the 'Tianqiong of all eras' a little bit more seriously. It felt as if everyone was way too cool about it even in the beginning.
So while the book was for the most part quite entertaining to read, there were a lot of outdated notions and language about gay people and their relationships and a few plot points which were not well-dealt with. I had fun for the most part, but I don't think it is a book that will be imprinted in my mind.
