Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.

He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.

He is a recipient the Tezuka Award for manga.

more could have been done in jotaro and jolyne’s chapter. hearing a random juvie officer/child psychologist from the 90s explain abandonment issues kinda takes the wind out jotaro’s subconscious message to jolyne.

f.f is such a trooper. there’s something so desperately human about them that i keep forgetting they are a colony of planktons, a community of individuals. the idea that a community could be so united to lock onto one purpose, their desire to maintain their identity, their place in the world, and how far they’re willing to go to help someone else because they accept them as they are. until the end, they think of jolyne. empathy is the highest display of intellect.

anastasia is a refreshing male character for sure. i don’t think this can be read without keeping in mind that anastasia was originally supposed to be a woman, and he was drawn as such in chapter 24, and was suddenly a man when he confesses that he’s in love with jolyne. flamboyant masculinity is nothing new in araki’s work, but anastasia deviates from this convention with his original gender in mind: the new anastasia is instead flamboyantly “feminine”, with the changes as well as what was kept from his original design (but still masculine, these are not mutually exclusive). anastasia is more compelling as a non-cishet man/a lesbian in this way; he/him pronouns don’t negate that. and i don’t care that he’s obsessed and doesn’t maintain personal space and is 6 years older than jolyne—i’m getting my lesbian love one way or another.

Bueno, tremendo cliffhanger al final. A esperar otro mes para ver qué pasa. Eso sí, el tema gore sigue escalando. Los guiños a ocurrencias reales con sectas han estado bastante bien.
