Very meh. Idk anything about this author, but his tone is self important and know-it-all-y. While I appreciate his determination to be a good sub, it also feels like he is kind of taking this role way too seriously. His description of how he navigates a classroom makes him sound more like a grumpy, out-of-touch authoritarian. How he addresses the possibility of being called a racist is tone deaf, as is a lot of his other advice, like when he says, “Don't be shocked when a girl tells you she has to ‘pee.’” Thinking about it, this book feels like more of a how-to in making yourself look good to the teacher, not so much how to be an engaged, effective sub. Side note: the copy editing is horrible.

Short, Concise, and to the Point!

I have not substituted in a classroom yet, however, after reading this book I feel much more prepared. I enjoyed how short and concise the book was and how it offered a lot of examples.
