Oak Springs #4

Dare You to Lie

Rate this book
A harmless white lie; that’s all it’s supposed to be. Until a slip of my tongue spirals things out of control.

The people of Oak Springs nicknamed me Grumpy Sheriff thanks to my permanent scowl. Which has only grown with my mom hounding me to settle down and my best friend hoping I’ll find love on a dating app. When an opportunity presents itself to get them off my back, I leap without thinking.

Katerina Cooper needs a date to a charity gala. Accompanying her will solve both of our problems. One night. That’s it. Then I can return to my quiet life and be free of the pressures to find a wife. Or so I thought.

Now the town is buzzing about us, we’re lying to our parents and friends, and Kat has moved into my space. No matter how much I grump and grumble, she doesn’t seem bothered. She’s sunshine on a rainy day and makes me feel things I’m not ready for.

Falling for her would be a disaster. But with each touch, I forget we’re pretending. I have to remind myself this is temporary. No matter how much I want her, Kat can never be mine.

This small town fake relationship grumpy/sunshine romance will deliver fun, adventure, and a happily ever after. The tension and heat will have you grabbing a fan while the laughs and good times will have you wishing you were there.

AUTHOR NOTE: Dare You to Lie is the fourth book in the OAK SPRINGS SERIES and although it can be enjoyed as a standalone, there are a lot of secondary characters from previous books. You can start the series with Dare You to Love.

Mina Cole brought a cozy small town romance and I feel like if I read more of the series it might become a comfort series for me. It was really enjoyable to cosy up during the fall weather and dive into this story in Oak Springs.

I haven’t read any books previous in the series. It felt like a standalone, but if you would have read the other books in the series it probably would’ve been a little bit more enjoyable. There’s lots of what seems like personal jokes between characters and certain relationships that I didn’t fully understand because I have only read this book.

I’m not normally a fan of slow burns, but this one was pretty decent. The downside was unfortunately with all this built up of sexual tension and the storyline, it all to come together within a couple of chapters of a stupid fight. It didn’t fully fulfil the slow burn for me. I’m not sure if that was just me and I missed some thing, but some of the drama between characters especially with Kat’s parents and sister didn’t really lineup from how it was introduced in the beginning. It felt like her parents and sister were the reasons for this “separation and drama” but at the end when it came down with her and her sister that wasn’t the case? There was also moments between Sid and Kat that because they were in a fake engagement situation the problems that arise (and before this main fight) were easily solved over “okay, you’re right” or “don’t worry, everything’s fine”. Just seemed a little bit too easy to solve issues.

Dare You to Lie by Mina Cole is book 4 in the Oak Springs Series. This is the story of Sidney 'Sid' and Katerina 'Kat'. Kat is a happy person but her mother has been on her to find a husband. With the local charity gala coming up her mom has gone into full husband finding mode. Sidney is the grumpy sheriff who ends up helping Kat with her problem. They enter into a fake relationship that starts to feel not so fake. Enjoyed.

LOVED

- grumpy/sunshine
- small town
- fake relationship

This was one of the best slow burns I've ever read. The way the story was written if didn't feel like their relationship was being dragged. It was like they got together at the perfect time.

At the beginning they didn't like each other that way but as time went on and they were forced to get to know each (cause the fake dating thing) they slowly started to fall for one another. They both a little closed of when it comes to dating because of something that happened in the past. It was nice seeing them learn to move on and accept love.

The vibe of the book was very comfy which I love. They both have a big close group of friends. Basically they found a family within each other, which is what I love most about small town books

This is one of those books thats gonna have you hooked from the start. All you need is a bowl of popcorn and you'll be relaxed while falling in love with all the characters

I enjoyed the latest book in the Oak Springs series. Kat and Sid start with a lie; add in a few secrets and family drama, and I finished this book rather quickly. As the story progresses, the fake relationship might not be so fake. Can these two figure it out? To trust and communicate?

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

A fake relationship between a hot grumpalump cop of the town and a chatty gal who he is more interested in than he lets on. These two are helping each other with over the top families. Should work out right? Sid actually cracks me up with his ridiculous negativity. He had me giggling a bit. Cute, story with some steaminess.

Sid's the town's grump. He's in need of a buffer between him and his mom's matchmaking tendencies, so when Kat needs a buffer from her ridiculous, disapproving parents, Sid's there with help. Now they just need to keep this fake engagement fake, then Kat's (and Sid's) heart won't get broken when his past catches up to him.

Kat came to this town looking for a new start. And she found it with these people, with her sister, and with Sid. But when their fake engagement somehow gets out of control, she's left wondering if perhaps her new start is one that isn't meant to be. Is she willing to accept what little Sid's willing to give her of himself? Or is she this time going to stand up for herself and demand real?

Grumpy/sunshine is one of my favorite tropes and here it's done really well. Sid is most definitely a grumpster. But he has his reasons why, and they were heartbreaking. When his backstory came out, I may have felt it right in my own heart. Kat's adorable, the perfect ray of light for serious, grumpy Sid. This small town's residents have captured my attention, now I'm looking forward to more of them falling in love.

Sheriff Sidney Lewis is also known in town as Grumpy Sheriff due to his constant frown and attitude that makes most stay away from him. With his mom pressuring him more and more to settle down he knows he needs a temporary solution to finally get her off his back.

Katerina Cooper came to Oak Springs to escape a big mistake she made and to start over. She has never lived up to her parents standards and needs a date to a charity gala so they can put their attention elsewhere.

When Sid and Kat decide to help each other for one night they think they have the answers to their problems but with one slip up they wonder how much trouble they have found themselves in.

Will they be able to figure things out before hearts get broken?

This was such a good book filled with laughs and heartbreaks that took your emotions all over the place.

Sid had obviously been through something very traumatic in the past that prevented him from moving on and allowing himself to be happy. He had friends but didn’t want to let anyone in and pushed people away when they got to close.

I thought Kat was awesome and felt awful for what she went through in the past. I also felt terrible for the fact she was so secretive of all the hell she went through in the past and never let anyone into her mistakes. She was so closed off in a certain sense and never let anyone help her heal. Her parents were absolutely brutal to her and the things they said to her just broke my heart.

I think in a sense Kat really just wanted to be loved by someone and therefore was willing to put her heart a little bit more out there as she just never felt appreciated and seen for who she really was. With Sid sticking up for her it allowed him to sneak into her heart without her really realizing it.

There was sooo much chemistry between Sid and Kat and it was hot!! They weren’t lacking for anything except for the fact that Sid was still holding so much back.

As things began to fall apart my heart was breaking for Kat and I was so mad at Sid for what he put her through. He showed no class and I was devastated for her.

I was glad that Kat stood her ground at the end but I was also super happy for how things turned out!- Rebecca

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
As a whole I LOVED this book. For me if I was going to break this book into parts I would separate it into two books. It's a fake romance/engagement romance between two people who know each other because they share friends but who don't get along.

The first part of the book is what I would call the buildup to the fake romance and engagement, and it would include the fake relationship. This was the best part of the story. Kat and Sid know each other but are more acquaintances than friends. More like they just share common friends and are friends with her sister and include her because she is a sister of their friend.

Kat came to town two years before the story begins because her sister moved there. She has a difficult relationship with her sister and parents. Sid also has a complicated relationship with his parents and brothers. They start the fake romance to get their families off their backs and it kinda snowballs from there. I adored watching Sid and Kat find out how awesome they are because they prob would have never gotten to know each other without the fake romance.

As the story progresses things get VERY complicated based on this lie they have told their families, friends and entire town. The way that the lie is exposed by Sid was beyond awful and I would have never ever forgiven Sid if he did to Kat to me. He betrayed her in the absolute worst way and when he did that, I HATED him so much. Up to this point I loved Sid and thought he was awesome, and I loved this story so much. But what he did was one of the worst things I have seen a character do to someone he likes/loves.

When he finally sees what he did he apologizes, and this is why I loved this book so much. Kat does not forgive him so easily. She makes him sweat and suffer and work hard to earn her forgiveness. As I mentioned I would have never forgiven him or even spoke to him again, but Kat is more forgiving than me and for that I totally respect her a lot.

As a whole I really enjoyed this story. I am not sure I will ever forgive Sid what he did but I loved Kat and how strong and resolute she is. And I adored how she made him suffer.

Thank you Mina and Greys PR for sending me a copy of this book to read and review.

This is the book 4 in the Oak springs series and follows the story of the grumpy sheriff Sid and an unlikely match in Kat.

Sid is Oak springs resident grumpy sheriff, he rarely smiles, just generally grunts and groans something everyone has become accustomed to over the years but behind those grumps and groans is a man with pain and hurt. At heart Sid is an amazing man who will Love fiercely and do anything to protect the people he loves.

Kat is the sister of Rebecca and is seen as the black sheep in her family because she doesn't do as persons say. her parents cut her off due to her grades slipping which only made her more determined to show them that she doesn't need them. Like Sid kat has a past that she holds close to her chest, one of pain and hurt.

There is so much that happens in this story i am not willing to give anything away because the beauty of this book deserves to have your eyes read it but i will give you a brief overhaul.

Kat comes from money she wears her partygoing high society persona as an armour to protect her. her parents are vile to her and when her mother calls to try and put someone on Kat for the charity gala. it's just too much.

Kats saviour comes in the form of the grumpy town sheriff but whilst at the gala the lie they had formed blew up after Sid said they were engaged. they live in a meddlesome town where everyone knows everyone's business which only made things worse for their lie. Only after spending so much time together the lie had become a future, they both wanted with each other.

But with everyone interfering and the lie spiralling and their pasts causing their fears and pain to resurface can they survive? will their lie come out and how will they cope with the fall out? will their Lie and the feelings they have for each other morph or will it explode? Read and find out NOW!!

I absolutely love a grumpy/sunshine, fake dating or forced proximity story so having them combined in one is wonderful.

Kat has settled into a comfy life in Oak Springs. She has a good job, friends and is just loving life, if only her parents would get off her back about finding a husband from a “good“ family. Of course the upcoming charity gala sees Kat’s mum sending her the list of potential dates to choose from.
Our grumpy sheriff Sidney, who secretly has a heart of gold, offers to come to her rescue by being each other’s fake dates to the gala. With the added benefit of getting his mother off his back, of course.

With one word, their fake dating has escalated and very quickly picking up speed with every conversation they have. Soon enough they find themselves entangled in their web of lies, but they find themselves comfortable together and blurring the lines between their fake relationship and real feelings. This should really only serve their situation but they both have a secret about their past that they aren’t willing to share. For Sid, his past is the reason that he could never allow these feelings to turn into anything real.

This book really hit the spot on my favourite tropes. I’m giving it a strong 4.5 (rounding up to 5).
Seeing the slow development of their relationship, Sid softening bit by bit and Kat shedding her armour was satisfying because none of it felt too rushed. Contemporary romance normally gives me plenty of feels but rarely any physical emotions, but I am telling you, there was a couple of points in this that I was actually tearing up. You just want Kat and Sid to have that HEA!
Love the side characters, which are from previous books but I don’t feel like I would have missed out if this was read as a stand alone.
There were a couple of parts to the story I felt could have used a little more information, just to fill out some details that I have a couple of questions about.

Overall I really enjoyed their story and can’t wait to read more of this series.

Both of their parents have been harassing them to settle down. So they come up with a plan to attend an event together as a pretend couple. 4.5 Stars - A Wicked Tale Weaved

This is my third kind of sort of opposites attract read in a row and meeting the grumpy sheriff and bubbly New Yorker was an absolute pleasure. There’s something about seeing if and when the gruff guy is going to turn into a teddy bear.

Sid is sheriff in the small town of Oak Springs and Katerina has lived in town for a few years, escaping New York after a total humiliation. To say that Sid and Kat have baggage is putting it mildly, especially with their respective parents. As with most small towns, everybody is involved in your business and with these meddling parents, it’s two-fold with this fake couple.

Sid and Kat needed a date for a fancy gala and agreed to a fake date to shut everybody around them up for a while. Neither one is ready for a full blown relationship and figure this date will be harmless. Harmless quickly spirals into more than either one was prepared for. The lie spreads quickly, as do their feelings for each other.

Both characters were well written and I love the small town genre, so all of the friends and family members totally involved were great. You can see from a mile away there were big changes ahead for these characters and the journey with them was interesting to say the least.

While this is the only book of the series I have read, Dare you to Lie reads well as a standalone. Mina Cole does a nice job at quickly explaining who everybody is and made me want to go back and start with book one.

What a great read! I just wanted to keep reading. My heart was so happy to read about Kat and Sid. Kat comes to Oak Springs after an unfortunate event. She is being pressured by her family into finding someone to marry. After what happened in Vegas, she’s afraid that may not happen. Grumpy Sheriff Sid lives in Oak Springs. He has some hidden secrets also that have slowed him down from finding someone to spend the rest of his life with. Both of their secrets will eventually come out. What will happen when this happens? Rewind to how Kat and Sid’s relationship/engagement comes about. Let’s just say a charity gala has Sid as Kat’s date. Everything just starts rolling forward. How long can this charade possibly go on? Will they be able to fool their friends that this relationship is real or will their friends catch on it is fake? It surely seems like Sid and Kat have more than just a fake romance going on. Their chemistry just sparks and seems natural. If their secrets come out how will everyone react? What will become of Sid and Kat? Get the tissues because you will need them. Let’s just say by the end of this book, I fell in love with Sid because of how what he went thru several years ago, and what he was willing to go through to get the girl.

Dare You To Lie Oak Springs Book 4 by Mina Cole is a small town grumpy sunshine fake relationship romance. This book can be read as a standalone.

Sid is the grumpy sheriff of Oak Springs who is having terrible luck with dating and agrees to go on a date with Katerina to get her parents and his parents off their backs. A fake date turns to a fake engagement.

I was looking forward to Sid’s book from the first book in the series and Mina did not disappoint. Even though this can be standalone I love the character dynamics from book to book. I have grown to like some characters and some I have liked less, but love the growth and changes of all the characters. Dare You To Lie also has more new characters, which I hope it means more books for Oak Springs. I have grown to like Katerina since I didn’t like the first impression of her from book 3 of the series. Sid is sexy in all his grumpiness. The beginning was a bit random with the Horse jumping scene other than that the story was great and flowed smoothly. I love this series more with each book and looking forward to the next book.

I was honored to receive an ARC.

Being new to Ms.Cole's work i've been looking forward to picking up her books! As soon as i stumbled across the synopsis for this one it caught my eye right away. I knew i had to pick it up first! I got right into the Oak Springs world. I so enjoyed it!

Katerina and Sid's journey pulled me in quickly! Kat and Sid have both been dealing with people in their lives pushing dating. When Kat needs a date to a charity gala, Sid volunteers to be hers. Can they make everyone believe they are dating? and will they ignore what their hearts are telling them?

Both Kat and Sid captured my attention and got me right into the Oak Springs world. I really liked how these two were brought closer together. I didn't know how they'd handle things, especially in their lives and when it came to the real between them. I found myself relating to both Kat and Sid. The chemistry between these two was so good! I adored the whole grumpy/sunshine aspect of their story as well!

It was so fun jumping into the Oak Springs world!

With Dare You To Lie, Ms.Cole has created such a good read with feels that will pull you in! I will definitely be going back and reading the previous three installments in this series! I am so looking forward to reading more from this author! 💜

Mina Cole is a fairly new author to me and I haven’t read the previous books in this series but that took nothing away from the enjoyment of Kat and Sid’s small town, grumpy/sunshine romance. If you love slow burn, fake relationship stories Dare you to Lie should certainly be on your radar.
Sheriff Sidney Lewis is know as the town grump and that means most people keep their distance but his mum is pushing for him to settle down and he decides to get himself a fake girlfriend to keep her off his back.
Katrina Cooper is new to Oak Springs and she is looking for a fresh start but she is also trying to get her parents of her back so can this couple please everyone with a fake relationship…..
One click to find out how their journey progresses.
This book has all the feels, it’s funny and witty but it’s also very emotional and at times heartbreaking. I really enjoyed this read and I think I need some visits to Oak Springs so as soon as time permits I will be looking at playing catch-up with the series.

Dare You to Lie  by Mina Cole

I enjoyed this story which is Kat and Sid’s journey. Kat moved to Oak Springs to start fresh after the disaster with Alessandro which i wanted to punch by the way. There she makes her own family in her friends because her family her parents especially are not worth the time and should not be called parents. I really disliked the way they were with her and how they basically were trying to marry her off for status and money huge jerks. There in Oak Springs she meets the grumpy yet very hot sheriff Sidney Lewis. Sidney is grumpy for a reason he is fighting his own internal problems which will grab at your heart and that makes him grumpy and pull away from people especially relationships. They both are being hounded by their moms to find someone so they come up with the brilliant idea to pretend to be together. What can go wrong right? We’ll grab the book and find out it is so good. It has so much heart and lots of great characters. I loved the friendships, humor, and the witty banter the author gave us. I highly recommend this book.

All I can say is wow just wow !! I seriously did not think it was possible for Mina’s Oak Springs Series to possibly get any better !!! But I was so so wrong . Each book and each couple well I’ve genuinely loved them all so far, but Sid and Kat just might be my favorite so far . Both are so likable and relatable you really cannot stop yourself from falling in love . And the storyline . Grumpy sunshine/ second chance , fake relationship and small town are only a few of my favorite tropes that Mina has so flawless entwined in this emotional rollercoaster of a love story . . On the edge of my seat with my heart beating so fast , speechless and fighting so hard to keep my eyes open, because I simply cannot put what is one of the best books I’ve read down Dare You To Lie is the type of love story I can guarantee will grab onto all your emotions so tightly and pull at your heartstrings in ways you definitely will not be expecting. It’s a must read , it’s unforgettable and unputdownable. Do not miss it !!

Do you like fake engagement tropes? Do you like second chance lovers tropes? How about grumpy-sunshine? Eep! Then this book is for you! This is a three for one! Sid is a grumpy sheriff from Oak Springs with a tragic past that he has seemed to be able to avoid and shove down deep inside him. That is until he meets the sunshine that is Kat and the closer that he gets to the sunshine that lights up his life, the closer his past draws, bringing feelings out in him he hasn’t had to deal with for years. Kat agrees to go along with Sid’s suggestion to get her parents off her back, and gain some of her freedom back, however Kat’s past is making us hard to trust Sid. Somehow along the way their fake relationship doesn’t seem so fake… but with Sids traumatic past, and Kats trust issues, who knows if they can put the past to rest long enough to see what truth could come out of this lie.

Fake dating, small town romance, forced proximity

Kat meets Sid after moving to a new town trying to start over after a humiliating end to her relationship. Sid is the towns grumpy sheriff and has a past he struggles to move on from as well. Both of their parents have been harassing them to settle down. So they come up with a plan to attend an event together as a pretend couple. What started as something that was supposed to be a one night deal it somehow turns into them being engaged after their lie spirals. At some point lines start to blur and what was once fake feels all too real. I received this one as an advance read and it was my first read by Mina so I didn’t realize it was a series. Each book features a different couple from the same town. I will definitely be going back to read each book. I really enjoyed Sid and Kat’s story so I’m excited to read the others!!

This is book four in the Oak Springs series and is Sid and Kat's book. This book drew me in and kept me hooked! The story flowed so well! The characters, the family drama, and the intimate scenes were so good. Sid and Kat started off in a fake relationship that turned into something beautiful and real. I loved every minute of it.

It was a great slow burn with the right amount of steam! I loved how grumpy Sid is and Kat is full of sunshine! They paired up perfectly! I loved seeing their group of friends too.

This book is full of so many emotions, heartaches and laughter I definitely recommend! I'm looking forward to the next book! I can't wait!!

Sheriff Sidney Lewis is known as the town grump. Katerina Cooper came to Oak Springs after making a big mistake. She needed to get away and start over. Her sister, Rebecca, lives in Oak Springs so she figured she would give it a try too. Kat has never been able to make her parents happy. No matter what she does they tell her what a screw up she is. When she needs a date to a gala, Sid volunteers himself. His mother is trying to get him to find a woman to settle down with, so he figures this will kill two birds with one stone. What he doesn’t realize is things are going to get complicated very quickly. This story started off kind of slow for me, but the longer I read the better it got. I was in love with the story by the time I finished and I now plan to read the rest of the series.

Dare you to lie is a fake relationship, grumpy hero/ sunshine heroine romance.
Sid needs people to back off for him to settle down. Kat needs a fake date to a charity gala. They agree on this fake thing for one night.
But that isn’t the end. Kat seems to become more present in Sid’s life, and at first he doesn’t acknowledge he likes it. But the more time passes, the more they get comfortable around each other, and more…

This is a slow burn, but fun to read. The grumpiness of Sid against the always sunshiny vibe of Kate is fun to read. They have all the sparks and chemistry between them.
I need to go back in this series to read the other books of the character I got to know.

This is Book 4 in the Oak Springs Series and my first read by this author, and I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is a heartwarming romance between Sidney and Katerina. Their sizzling chemistry and strong connection are undeniable as they navigate the bumpy road to their forever after. What starts out as a fake relationship turns into something more. This love story, with a small town feel, has some drama, humor, and steam, plus engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. It is a quick read with heart, heat, and a happy ending. It can be read as a standalone.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Grey's Promotions and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down once I started reading it. I am a huge fan of small town romance and grumpy/sunshine tropes and this one did not disappoint one bit. I loved the characters and how well the story flowed together. I did not read any of the other books before this one in the series but I still felt as I knew what was going on. I am looking forward to starting the series from book 1 and am looking forward to reading more by Mina Cole.

I am so honored to of been able to receive an ARC of this book to leave an honest review!

Do you love grumpy/sunshines? What about fake dating and a small town? If you said “yes” then you’re in the right place! The sleepy town of Oak Spring continues to grow and take us by surprise! I loved getting to know more about Sid as well as see how wonderful Kat is. Though it *can* be read as a stand-alone I would highly recommending reading at least the first book to get the most out of this book!

This is the fourth book in this series, and this is Sidney and Katerina’s story. Sid is known in town as the grumpy sheriff, while Kat is a ray of sunshine. When Kat needs as date for a charity gala, Sid agrees to go with her. This is a good small-town romance, with a fake relationship, humor, witty banter, family, friendships, and tension, which leads to an enjoyable page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This was my first visit to Oak Springs and I cannot wait to go back! The concept of the fake relationship to fool their parents was so fun and then watching as Sid and Kat fell for each other as their lie progressed was heart warming, and also a bit heart wrenching knowing both had pasts they seemed to be wrestling with. It was easy to get lost in their story, their lives, and their group of friends.

I will be diving into more Mina Cole books soon. I need to backtrack and read more about the Oak Springs characters!

I was glad that Kat stood her ground at the end but I was also super happy for how things turned out!
