The Thrones of Ore and Ice

Rate this book
"Power is best held in the hands of those who never asked for it."

Véa was never boastful of her crown, but she certainly missed it when she was forced to marry to save her world. Nix never wanted to be king. First born son or not, he was happy for his brother to take the throne - until Nix saw how awful of a ruler his little brother was.

When Nix and Véa met, it was because she was marrying his little brother. But as her guard, he saw the ugly reality of how he treated her. One thing led to another, and before they knew it...

Now, Véa is pregnant with Nix's child, and he knows what his brother will do to her if he learns.

To keep the woman he loves and his unborn child safe, Nix's only option is to take his brother's throne - and his wife - out from under him.

Will Véa be able to stay safe in this war of crowns until her baby's born?

This installment is slowly ripping me to shreds.

You can check out my review for book 1, Origins to see what I mean.

It seriously makes my heart ache. It reminds me a bit of the feeling that I had while reading the last book from the Throne of Glass series, the Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass #7) by Sarah J. Maas

I can`t even properly talk about what went through this book without revealing a lot of the first book. That is why I`ll cover it with a bit of marked spoiler:

Can`t these two get a break?! I mean, yeah, one of the reasons I kept reading and holding my breath the entire time was because they were getting hurt at any moment (but they also had plenty of reprises in which they just enjoyed their present).

Overall, an amazing book that I had to read with great caution. I also had to take breaks in reading it because it was tearing my heart apart.

I love it when they do that.

this book broke me

This second book in this series just crushed me. Chewed me up and spit me out. My heart broke 5 times and I sobbed the last third of this book. Just amazing how the author takes your emotions on such a roller coaster

This book validated my desire to have a baby, my frustration that I am struggling to get pregnant, and the hope I have for my future. It ripped my heart out and flushed it down the toilet. And it made me feel empowered as a woman. I would recommend. This book to anyone. Especially if they read paranormal romance.

This book will rip all the feels right out of you!! However it really is upbeat for most of it. I can't wait for the next installment.

Wow sometimes after a really good book, you can just be lost for words and this is one of those times! This was everything!! Stressful, heart breaking, horrific, tearful, yet so hopeful, emotionally charged and beautiful. So maybe I’m not that lost for words, but I can’t get over how much I enjoyed it and its one of those times that, whatever I say here, will just not do it the justice it deserves.

If you have been following the Eluding Destiny series like I have (since December 2020), you will know what was coming in this book. You may think you are prepared, trust me you are not. It’s so dark and violent and you will cry, but like I mentioned above you will still have so much hope. Like something truly dreadful happened to the few, that will ultimately make the quality of life improve for so many. Had this event not been as devastating, then there would not have been the anger and determination to do what had to be done for the people of Matriaza. I can’t say more than that as you need to read and see for yourself how emotionally charged this is.

I didn’t think I could love Nix and Vea more but their love for each other is so powerful and believable, it’s the very definition of soul mates. In the previous book we saw how they grew to care for each other as first friends, to then best friends and onto more but in this, it’s a love so deep that you melt. The chemistry is sizzling as is the love making, they are so comfortable with each other, that it’s just extra – haha so I am still lost for words even now. The banter between them is so playful and believable and the colourful language is fantastic. I am being very careful how I word this review, as I don’t want it rejected by Amazon lol that has happened to me before. I wish I could express myself like these guys do, as its everyday backchat you have with your close friends and that is what makes Charlie Nottingham’s writing style so unique, brutally honest and downright refreshing.

I have said nothing about the story itself as I can’t do that to you. My recommendation to you is - if you haven’t read any of the Eluding Destiny books before, go back and do it now by release date! Start with book 1 then read the prequel just before this. If anyone wants me to list them in order, get in touch as I am happy to do so. This is how much you need to trust me and read these books. I read most last year when I was going through a difficult time and these helped me escape. You bond with the characters like they are family and when each book finishes you miss them.

This can get nothing less than top marks and I want to give it way more. 5 out of 5 sensational stars!!

Thank you Charlie for providing me with an advanced reader copy. These are my honest opinions! I just adore this entire series. Weirdly I clearly love getting my heart ripped out then put back together again, and Charlie can do that like no other.

More to the story

Thanks to the Eluding Destiny series, we already had a few glimpses into the lives of Vea and Nix. With Thrones of Ore and Ice, we get even more to fill in the gaps and continue learning about these past lives that Laila and Jeremy had! There was a lot of heartbreak and answered questions in this installment and as much as it killed me to, I absolutely flew through this. I’m so in love with the world building that Charlie Nottingham has done with these books and it makes it so incredibly easy to get lost in the pages for hours and hours. This book bridged the gap between book one and three beautifully and I can’t wait to read the conclusion!

This was a great sequel to the first book and allowed for a better understanding of the motives behind Lux (iykyk). It was devastating and beautiful and I cannot wait for the next one.
