The Writer : - his own story proved more dramatic than the books he wrote

His own story proved more dramatic than the books he wrote

Lionel thought he had it all; a successful writing career, a comfortable London home, and the pick of the literary babes, who flocked to the handsome and charismatic author. He had a good housekeeper. Why did he need tying down with a wife? He hadn’t reckoned on the jealousy of a past girlfriend, and the sweet face of Oralie sitting at her desk just a few feet away from him in his study, to cause a turmoil that rapidly escalated beyond his control. His story had all the elements of a romantic love story; the trouble was, he didn’t write love stories. His life began to spin out of control.

Oralie lost her mother at a young age, and was trapped with her abusive father until she broke away at the age of sixteen. When she applied for a job as the live-in personal assistant to Lionel, a forty-two-year-old successful writer, she had been living in a hostel for the homeless, and was greatly relieved when she was offered the position. She thought she had left her past behind, for a bright new future. But someone from her past came back to haunt her, and her life descended into chaos.

This steamy love story will have you on the edge of your seat, and also touch you deeply.

I write steamy (and sometimes erotic) romance, with a bit of excitement and adventure combined. My characters don’t have an easy ride in my books – I certainly put them through their paces – but there is also passion and sensuality to make your heart soar, I hope.

I live in the heart of England and, before Covid, I used to travel to some wonderful, exotic places. Sadly, now, I am reduced to looking at my travel photo albums. I love the beautiful British landscape, good music, beautiful sunsets, and my wonderful friends and family. Above all, I value kindness and love. Everything else is a bonus.

A real page turner

I very much enjoyed this book. Rachel de Vine makes the main characters come alive for the reader. Lionel, the writer, and his secretary turned lover Oralie, are both very likable characters. The storyline is well developed and realistic, immediately drawing the reader into the intrigue of what may happen next. Unfortunate events throughout the book, enriched the story keeping me turning the pages. de Vine does it once again, a wonderful read from a great writer. I would most definitely recommend this book. Readers will not be disappointed.

Mystery wrapped in intrigue.

Lionel is an author. Oralie is his new personal assistant. Both have complex lives but when they get together, crazy people come out of the woodwork. My first venture with this author but not my last.
