The only way out is through. Greeley, Colorado lies before him. Griffin’s army presses at his back.
Lee Harden is out of options, and out of time.
Inside the city, Sam Ryder is trapped behind enemy lines, and Acting President Briggs still maintains his stranglehold on the country—and Lee’s destiny.
Choices. We are made by choices. And they make us. Choices are being made by every individual swept up in this conflict. Abby—Sam—Abe—Brinly—Angela—all of them making choices, with irreversible consequences.
And all of those consequences fall on Lee.
As Lee fights to adapt and maintain control amid the chaos of a city under siege, all of those choices will reach their terminus, in this explosive conclusion to the Lee Harden Series.
D.J. Molles became a New York Times and USA today bestselling author while working full time as a police officer. He's since traded his badge for a keyboard to produce over 20 titles. When he's not writing, he's taking steps to make his North Carolina property self-sustainable, and training to be at least half as hard to kill as Lee Harden (his most popular protagonist).
Molles also enjoys playing his guitar and drums, drawing, cooking, and “shredding that green pow” on his Onewheel.
Most nights you can find him sitting on the couch surrounded by his dogs and family, trying to stream an hour of Netflix with his really sketchy satellite internet connection.

I'll give a quick, non-spoilery review, because Amazon inadvertently shipped my copy more quickly than anticipated and so I received my copy on the 8th, instead of Release Day, which was the 11th. Then I read it from cover to cover; I couldn't put it down!
That said, this book was a phenomenal closer to the Lee Harden series! The explosive action is still very much in full force, and the reader's ears are left ringing from all the gunfighting, and grenades going off!! Also, all the lead characters have a chance to shine, and a lot of plot-lines are wrapped up! These characters get a fitting send-off, and I feel like overall, the book was an excellent balance between exposition and action (something DJ Molles is known for). I have to say that I was not disappointed by this book in the slightest, because it gave me everything I was looking for, and I DO think I'll enjoy it even more on a second readthrough, starting at the Book 1, so that everything is fresh in my mind again. Highly, HIGHLY recommended. And pick up the Remaining Sextet if you haven't already, and for the love'a mike, read those first!
The Criticism (if it could be called that)[VERY MINOR SPOILER]: I will say that we aren't given a 100% satisfactory conclusion of all that new strangeness that came about with the Primals. We don't ever really find out who the Strange Ones are, or why they can talk, or find out much more about the Omegas and the Alpha. Also, this book DOES end on a "And the adventure continues" sort of thing, which if I'm being honest, feels very much like Mr. Molles has left a door unlocked, juuuuuuuust in case he wants to come back to this Universe again. I'm grateful for it, because there were a few moments in the last quarter of the book where I was sure "This is it, this is the end of everything!" only for some great plot-twist and dialogue to happen instead.
Ultimately, even if we don't get any more books in this universe, these 12 books are some of my favorite books, and I've read and reread them many times. Other books in this genre tend to fall flat, and I can't always put my finger on it, other than to say that I expected them to be as good as the Remaining/Harden books, and they just never are.
An excellent and satisfying finale to an outstanding post apocalyptic series.
Wow! D.J. Molles really managed to write a very satisfying finale to his outstanding Lee Harden series. It’s really nice to see that his writing IQ has significantly improved over the years since he originally released The Remaining (which was an outstanding series in its own right). The best compliment I can pay to Mr. Molles and the Lee Harden Series is that I’ll be thrilled when I hear that he has any new book coming out. A top shelf author who writes top shelf fiction.
Culminating into the big finale, characters you have traveled with over the several volumes in this series all comes to a head. This story line has some really great moments and has always been a fantastic read with characters that you grow with and suffer with and share in their highs and lows. D.J. Molles does not disappoint with this fascinating exciting and some times down right scary world he has created. Certainly worth your time to become invested in.
This is a huge book and a huge storyline! I haven't read anything this huge since The Stand! And this storyline is just about as immense and engrossing as that iconic book. I've avidly read the first five books in this series and have hungrily consumed the startling characters through their struggles with themselves and their fractured world. I've fallen deeply in love with some of the plethora of amazing characters as a master storyteller guided them through their lives and struggles. I've struggled along with them, hopefully guiding them to a better place, but never able to keep up with the trials they were put through. Every page a surprise, every chapter leading further into darkness while praying for a small gleam of light at the end.
The Lee Harden story has come to an end. Or a new beginning? Only our master storyteller knows for sure, but one thing I can swear to without doubt is I'll hear more of the tale of Lee, Abe, Sam, Marie and Angela in the future. Their story is just too great to let die! And, by the way, just in case you haven't figured it out yet - this is a GREAT read!
I started The Remaining Series on a whim and it exceeded all of my expectations. Not my usual read but what an amazing read it was. So of course I had to continue on with the Lee Harden Series and I’m so happy I did. It’s not a rainbows and butterflies kind of book and it’s not a HEA kind of series but I would not have changed the ending. It was perfect! So sad to have finished Terminus so quickly but I just couldn’t put it down. It’s going to be hard to find something as fulfilling for my next read.
Solid end. Although for awhile I was beginning to be fatigued with the story line. Really starting to dislike a couple of characters (The mother/daughter duo) but that worked itself out … kind of.
If the author continues the series I will certainly read because there are some serious questions to be answered. Like who the hell is The Corporation and wtf are those monsters up to? And what happened to the recording Lee grabbed from Doc Trent before he turned into a buffet?
Molles wraps up his Harden series with a masterpiece that keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing until the absolute last moment. Who will win, who will live, who will die, who will have power?! Well written and executed the story arc and characters perfectly mesh to bring the tale to a brutal and logical conclusion. Will there be more in this universe? Perhaps, and we will read them, but Molles could stop right here and prop up his feet - the master of military horror.
Excellent. A real barn-burner of post apocalyptic drama. Please read my review of the first book of the series Harden (Lee Harden #1). I won't expose readers to any spoilers so I'll just generalize. This series of 6 books are some of the finest dystopian, post apocalyptic fiction I've read. Mr. Molles doesn't disappoint. What this series is: - a great action series with realistic tactical and strategic combat scenes - a fine description of the needs and strategies for post-apocalyptic community building - an engaging study of a variety of characters, their passions, fears, conflicts and relationships - a collage of word pictures so vivid they stick with you after you've finished reading them. And Mr. Molles accomplishes all this without resorting to cliches or super-human capabilities of main characters. I highly recommend this series. (Disclaimer: I reserve 5 stars for what I consider classics by writers like Steinbeck)
I have LOVED this goddamn series. DJ, PLEASE don’t let this be the last of Major Harden. This most recent entry in the Remaining/Harden saga kept me riveted and chewing my nails.
I don't even know why I'm still with these books. Started the main series because of the zombie apocalypse and to begin with it was good. This and the last couple though .. there's no zombie and next to no apocalypse . Just page after page after page after page of non stop military gung ho, fighting and weapon/military jargon. I'm kinda over it. Seriously zero zombies (and the page or 3 of that 'alpha' shit is lame...But, I still want more. Please, more but this time with Griffin's Black Ops v's The Primal's. I hate myself.
Wonderful back and forth storyline to end this series. Read it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down. I'm so sad that this series comes to an end because back in 2018 is when I originally got back into reading because of The Remaining series. Since then I've been the most active reader I have ever been in my life and it is entirely thanks to an employee of Barnes N Noble who recommended D.J. Molles to me and of course the one and only author himself for creating such an enticing universe to become immersed within. This book has a fitting ending to the journey of Lee and his friends. I hope it may lead to future installments because D.J. I will read any and everything you'd put on a bookshelf relating to this series. #WriteForever #HardenTheF_ckUp
I had been thinking about this book for sometime and the only out I could see for Lee and the gang was death. DJ has out thought me again.
Its good to know Lee, Abe and the team are still at it and maybe we'll hear from them again. Because, The Remaining and the Lee Harden Series are like old friends which I like to return to occasionally.
This series, in its entirety has been an absolute thrill ride. It's novel, hard, and captivating and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who enjoys military thrillers or apocolyptic/dystopian style books. I'm glad I read it, but sad it's ended.
A less than mediocre finish to what started as a good story about a good character.
I am not sure what happened. This was a good story line at some point and maybe the author just ran out of gas. This was not a good send off for the main character nor some of his supporting characters. It seems as if this book had to be written to close out the story but not much care or effort went into the quality of the closing of what was once a great story line and a great character. I was disappointed. Sorry.
Well I guess I am glad I finished off this series. Came close to DNF but I hung in there hoping for a return of the primals and what the series was supposed to be about. It was a lot like the last book. Very dark inside Lee’s head - which is fully appropriate- but not what I want to read. I don’t want to read about groups of humans fighting each other and Lee’s dark struggle in his mind. I liked the zombie fiction so it wasn’t great for me.
This is classic D.J. Molles and Lee Hardin, bad ass from start to finish. I am pretty sure Molles must be self publishing because this book was the length and girth of two volumes in one and most publishers would take the extra pay day. Also, I love the fact his books are very reasonably priced on amazon kindle--I raise a frosty glass to you sir. This installment in a kick-ass series picks up with the long awaited attack on Greeley, Colorado and the asshole usurper President Briggs. From the outset in this series Lee Hardin has been the underdog and facing a full plate of shit. In this instance he is about 10 minutes ahead of a bigger army trying to catch him and a shitload of Primals behind that army. With no remorse Hardin and his forces take the gloves off and put the boots to Greeley and its defenders. Just as they are getting the upper hand Griffith and his army arrives to spoil the party. As they are setting up for a classic showdown the Primal horde descends on Greeley and all hell breaks loose. Needless to say Molles keeps the action fast and furious with a few unexpected twists. Two characters I have despised the entire series Angela, and her rat daughter Abby detract from what otherwise for me was a five star book. The book finishes in a solid place and who knows maybe we have not seen the last of Lee Hardin.
What can I say? A masterpiece is an understatement. A perfect ending to the series. I love that the infected, the primals, never stop being a threat. The growth and depth of the characters is written wonderfully through the book as you take a closer look at their internal struggle. All of that during absolute f*&$ing mayhem every page! It's non stop chapter after chapter, page after page. And the way he makes you love a spoiler free someone by the end.. or at least respect them.. the change of view point and perspective giving you a great leader to rise out of the ashes of this final war. What a wonderful sendoff DJ Molles gave to this series.
There's a moment of acceptance and reflection in this book that is just a masterpiece. Thank you DJ, I can't wait to see what comes next from you!
Fuck. You've ever read a series that, as you're reading it, you become aware it's fucking amazing and slow down and even re-read pages, in order to savour it down to the last page?
I honestly went into this series with few expectations, expecting another run of the mill post-apocalyptic, hard-on for the military zombie novel, albeit with good reviews. I wasn't prepared for the emotional depth and fantastic storytelling DJ Molles was able to achieve.
Somehow he managed to dodge so many clichés that this genre has become famous for, or at least do them better than usual. Lee Harden is such an interesting protagonist and his world so bleak, one knew that anything could happen to your favourite characters while reading.
Can't wait to give it some time and read this again. Absolute class.
A lot of closure and a lot of relief. Can we finally rest now?
There’s no review, no intro, things just jumó right back into the desperate and gritty reality of people with no plan B. What a ride. The characters we’ve enjoyed so far get their deserved endings and we get a moment of introspection on the nature of war crimes. A deeper book than the previous ones.
Is everyone tired and only functioning on adrenaline? Yep. No one escapes the violence and we learn some truths from the past that fill in a lot of puzzle pieces into how the end of the world happened and why. You will enjoy this final chapter immensely just like I did.
D.J. wraps up Lee Hardins struggles as a military commander and strategist and leaves the door open for more Lee Hardin adventures, maybe. Angela has trouble with Abby and her independent streak. Abe figures prominently in this story as does Lee's Marine commander Brinly. The attack on Greely is a little less intense until they discovered Griffens army on their tail and closing fast. The rush to find and kill or capture president Briggs is on. One little thing no one finds out until they are engaged is the primal horde of thousands is decending on them. How will they survive? or do they? Got to read it to find out.
I'm usually not a big fan of books \ stories turning into long drawn out seemingly never ending series but this would be my exception to the rule. From the very fist book of The Remaining to book 6 of the Lee Harden series, Terminus, it has been a page burning roller coaster ride that I can't put down and even find myself a little sad when I know I'm getting close to the end of the book! I so hope that the story continues and I get to see more of Lee Harden and his team. Keep doing what your doing Mr.Molles. You have a dedicated reader and fan in me.
So the end comes and still tomorrow begins anew at sunrise....
So many questions answered and still so many unanswered.... So many friends and enemies alike dead and gone. Yet, the sun still rises and the few remaining with dreams that refuse to die in the ashes continue ever pressing onward after an ideal - a hope. Where do they go from here... Will the true villains ever face justice for millions who died? All there is left is to stand tall each day and press forward to rescue and rebuild and hope... Always hope!
So this is the end of the series beginning with The Remaining. Good series all the way through, beginning to end. Plenty action and intrigue to keep the reader turning page (cussing when you have to put it down to finally some sleep). Mr Molles has chosen to end the series though there is so much more story that could be told. Giving readers a chance to use their own imagination.
How much did I love the Lee Hardin series? Just saying... I preordered when available and rsad them iimmediately. This final book , I waited a few days because I did not want Lee to end. So he didnt die, but I did not like the end. To even put this characters name and lable it as war crimes or criminal activity made me extremely sad and actually shout out loud in my living room at the injustice of it. I loved this literary character.
This awesome series had reached the point where to continue the storyline would become repetitious or contrived. Mr Molles do an excellent job wrapping up threads and bringing the story to conclusion. That being said, the opportunity for a sequel series or Part II was certainly left in place. I hope that scenario is on the horizon!!!👏
I liked the ending to the book series. Lists of unanswered questions, but sometimes you can’t wrap up everything in a red bow - like what in the world was the fungus comment about, what’s going on with the primals, I didn’t care for the Brits or Canadians switching sides so often, obviously some ulterior motives. I have to say Angela has never been a favorite character and I really disliked her in this book. All in all a great read.
A great ending to the series. I was a bit worried going into this book, so much so that I put off starting it for more than a month. I shouldn't have worried, the reader is always in good hands with D.J. Molles. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, and as always, there was a good "WTF???" moment that made me stop and re-read because my brain refused to believe that was about to happen. The only disappointment was the teepios felt under utilized for most of this story.
I’ve read many apocalyptic books and series that usually leave you hanging. This is the first series, I have read, that provides at least a framework for the future. Although somewhat rushed in the last few chapters there is a great amount of cleanup needed to close out the final situation and development of that plan for the future.
Overall I have enjoyed reading these 6 books and have found it very difficult to stop reading at times.
What a fitting end to an intense, well crafted series (universe). I like the mix of military, civilian and zombie attention the author has paid. I’ll be sad to no longer read about my favourite characters but know that restarting the series whenever I need a Lee fix will never bore me. Love this universe and find some new gem every time I read it. Very much recommended
