STRONG HEART, SHARP MIND presents a cutting-edge, science-based program that teaches readers how to develop the habits and lifestyle practices that improve both heart and brain health. Readers will learn how they can prevent or forestall both the nation's number-one killer-heart disease-as well as the affliction Americans fear Alzheimer's disease. For the 108 million Americans 50 and over, creating what the authors call the "BRAIN-BODY-BALANCE" through the steps detailed in these pages can also improve quality of life and longevity, by synchronizing the interaction between our two most vital organs.
Joseph C. Piscatella, nationally-known, bestselling speaker and author of countless heart health books, and one of the longest-living survivors of coronary bypass surgery (43 years and counting!) and Cleveland Clinic neurologist Marwan Noel Sabbagh, M.D., one of the worlds's foremost researchers in the fight against Alzheimer's, employ the latest science and recommendations from other leading-edge thinkers and practitioners, to help readers optimize the connection between cardiac and neuro health--a nexus that until recently has been overlooked as a key to wellness and longevity. Together, "No Ordinary Joe" Piscatella and Dr. Sabbagh are poised to guide readers to this new intersection of heart-brain health, and take them through the necessary steps to make that connection between our most vital organs, for optimal wellness--and to protect them against the world's most lethal and feared diseases.

Before you think that I read this book as a way to get started on New Year's resolutions, let me just say, that that is not the case. I did away with those kinds of resolutions a long time ago. Having goals in my life, is another matter. I read this book because the authors hitch mind health with heart health. That is not done very often when books deal with health issues. There is a lot of good information and help in this book. Chapter 8 is one prime example. All of us can implement "A Sound Approach to Stress Management." We need to learn to control anxiety, anger, and depression in our lives and do so without medications. We will benefit from this kind of care. Our families and those around us will benefit as well. I do not hold to the evolutionary thoughts that pop up every now and then. Setting that aside, I would encourage you to read this book.
A decent book that correlates how the pulmonary system and the brain work in concert to determine major outcomes in our health and life. Alzheimer's disease and Heart disease are two major killers for seniors and the book addresses how they can be linked through conditions that arise primarily in our overall health factors primarily diet and activity.
A former heart patient and doctor relate how the bad conditions arise in our life styles and how to acknowledge and make changes that will ultimately bring us back to a healthy footing that we can ride into longevity cycle that will maximize our lifespan and maintain quality of that life.
Strong Hearts and Strong Minds is a text written for those in mind who wish to keep their hearts and minds sharp and strong. I read the first couple of chapters and felt that it was a little too much for me to keep reading due to the medical jargon. I was a little confused and overwhelmed by what they were talking about. It’s an ideal book for those who wish to learn on how to keep their hearts strong and mind sharp and active. I agree with the authors that if something concerns you about your health, heart and mind consult your doctor
A book with a 6 step program that reverses heart disease and helps prevent Alzheimer's. Joseph suffered a heart attack at the age of 32 and was told he wouldn't live a long life. 44 years later he is writing the book along with Dr. Sabbagh who specializes in Alzheimer's and Dementia. What is good for your heart is good for your brain. Eating vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains and exercise, sleeping well and managing stress. Cognitive stimulation and social support.
