S. Massery is a dark romance author who infuses all her stories with a dash of suspense. Formerly from Massachusetts, she now resides in Southern California with her dog, Alice.
Before adventuring into the world of writing, she went to college in Boston and held a wide variety of jobs—including working on a dude ranch in Wyoming (a personal highlight). She has a love affair with coffee and chocolate. When S. Massery isn’t writing, she can be found devouring books, playing outside with her dog, or trying to make people smile.
I am so glad I ended up going back to read this before I got any further into Thief, everything is adding up now.
This is such a good introduction to this series & into Sterling Falls as a hole. I cannot wait to continue to read about Saint because hawtttt damnnn. Also have a good feeling about the FMC which is always ify, but high hopes for her!
Thrill is the prequel novella to the Sterling Falls series. We meet Elora and Saint, as well as the men who run Olympus and have plans to take over Sterling Falls from the gangs!
This was quick; short, “sweet” and to the point. I already know I will love the Sterling Falls series based on this sneak peak alone! Elora and Saint’s relationship is built on past lust and current adrenaline rushes. It’s quick and let’s all of their feelings they’ve harbored fly free!
A lot of novella’s leave me wanting more but Thrill gave me everything I needed and left me sated!
i think this book was a great intro to what is going to happen in the sterling falls series. i enjoyed nyx and saint and cannot wait to see what happens in the next book. it was a quick read and had a lot of insight into the sterling falls world.
This novella was the perfect way to introduce this series! I am already hooked! The fighting, the insta-love, the Greek mythology of it all, I’m obsessed!
This was a great intro into the Sterling Falls series! I love Nyx and really hope she shows up more in the rest of the series! Saint also is a 10/10 🥵
The mutual “I’ve had a crush on you since we were were freshman” vibe was honestly so sweet and I loved that while there was spice, this was still very plot filled which is my fav!
i love these two!! it was a sort of finally the right time & right place situation & it was perfect for them! it was a great set up for this whychoose series!!
Thrillby S. Massery is a novella set in the world of Sterling Falls. Though it is the prequel toSterling Fallsseries, it can be read as a standalone since it's a guarantee HEA.
After having readThief,it led me back to go and read the prequelThrillin order to get the backstory into some of the characters as well as anything that might have been missed out on. Thieffollows the story of Elora ‘Nyx’ Jane Whitlock and Saint Hart, who are mentioned inThrilland is told through dual POVs.
Despite being a quick read, S. Massery was able to fit in a strong narrative when it came to telling the story of Nyx in regards to who she was and where she came from. Given how her past plays a strong factor into her story with it being mentioned throughout, it also happens to lead her to someone she doesn't expect to see Saint. Which results into something more, that neither expected but can't deny they want. Without taking away from Nyx's story, S. Massery still managed to introduce Olympus and its leaders, setting up their story ahead ofThiefwith giving a sort of sneak peek of what’s to come in the future from within the series. Given everything that went on in this novella, it generated this short in packing a punch with being an action packed read that gave drama, mystery and suspense. Plus disclosures laid down into what’s to come in the future for the town of Sterling Falls.
Thrillwas definitely a great read and the perfect set up (at the same time) for what’s to come next in Sterling Falls. Would recommend checking it out if you’re planning to read S. Massery’sSterling Fallsseries.
S. Massery does it again with Thrill—a dark, intense, and emotionally charged story that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go. This book is everything I’ve come to expect from Massery: complex characters, morally gray choices, explosive chemistry, and a plot that keeps twisting until the very end. The tension between the main characters is electric—equal parts passion and danger. Every scene is layered with emotion, secrets, and that deliciously addictive push-and-pull dynamic Massery writes so well. What makes this book stand out is how it balances the darkness with genuine vulnerability. Beneath all the chaos and revenge, there’s a deep emotional connection that feels raw and real. The pacing is perfect, the writing sharp, and the emotions gut-wrenching. It’s one of those stories that leaves you thinking about the characters long after you’ve finished. If you love dark romance with depth, power plays, and unforgettable chemistry, Thrill is a must-read. S. Massery proves once again why she’s one of the queens of dark romance.
I received an ARC copy and this is my honest review.
This is a short story to prepare you for the rest of the series. It was good and detailed enough that you weren’t totally lost. Not having read the rest of the series yet I don’t know the importance of Elora/Nyx or Saint, but I will assume they are key players. You are introduced to Hades, Ares, and Apollo as well as Artemis”Tem” and the fact that they like to play games and that they want to displace the gangs that rule the town.
Elora was taken at fourteen by her best friends dad into the woods and made to hallucinate and it was alluded to that he hurt her, but on years later on Halloween at the party, after he tried to hurt her again, Hades shot and killed him and brings Elora into their fold and wipes her mothers debts clear. Saint is presented to her almost like a gift. He’s someone she’s always wanted but he was on the opposite side of the gang jurisdictions that they could never be, but now working together with Hades, Apollo, and Ares, the two could finally be together.

Is it impossible for dark romance authors to write a book with plot? Cause this felt like 92% of it was porn. No. No. This needs to stop. I read for plot. Sexy plot, yes, but IT. NEEDS. PLOT.
It wasn't bad, wasn't horrible -- it was actually quite enjoyable -- as expected from Sara Massery, BUT. The porn needs to stop. Plot needs to make an entrance.
The whole "Nyx" thing was cliché. Olympus was cliché. The fight was cliché. Hades, Apollo, and the other wannabe power trip mortal were cliché. Fuck it, it was cliché. Read it just in time for Halloween, yes, but my gosh. I honestly wonder how the gods feel about this shit. What a mockery.
And -- what a surprise. Another most likely blonde FMC. Yayyyy. *Please note the heavy tone of sarcasm.*
Do I plan to read 'Thief'? So what if I do.
Sara Massery is great. She just needs more plot. A lot more. And original plots for each story. Could go on a whole tangent about that and Hockey Gods, but I'll leave it at that.
This is a bit intriguing since its about different gangs with greek myth references. This is not a retelling.
The story focuses on Elora who has received an invitation for an elusive fight night or club, where masks are required. We are introduced with the 3 mmcs for the main series Apollo, Aries, and Hades.
The story focuses on Elora aka Nyx and Saint and im not really sure what their main role in the main series is but we shall see. I guess it will make sense when i read book one. It gives us an intro to the main FMC, but vaguely.
Im more excited to jump into book one hopefully its promising
This book was a slow start, but it gives you insight into Kora and what led her to where she is, as the story goes on, you get more glimpses until you're able to see why she had to run away.
The guys, they're all intense and broody in their own way, I can't wait to find out what happened to them and how their relationships will play out.
I love the Hades and Persephone and Greek god references.
I like that Nyx and Saint make some cameos in this book as I enjoyed their story too.
The world presented was very intriguing. The writing was a bit clunky and rushed at times, but I guess that's partially to be expected given the shortness of this prequel story.
I'm unsure what roles Saint and Elora will play in the actual series, but I'm betting I'll appreciate having had read this introduction into the universe of Olympus and Sterling falls.
“He’s offering us a dose of magic. The sort of thing that doesn’t exist. There’s no such thing as magic, only illusion and tricks. And the power to make someone believe your version of reality.”
Thrill seduces the reader by speaking to one’s curiosity. We are shown enough of an introduction to Sterling Falls to provide some back story whilst leaving us with questions. My interests have been piqued and I look forward to reading Thief to see what Apollo, Ares and Hades have planned for Nyx. I’m assuming everything comes at a cost and has Elora sold her soul?
This is my first time reading S. Massery, although I've seen her book covers a million times on social media.
As far as short story prequels go, this one did its job and more. We meet Elora/Nyx, who I presume will be a side character in the main series, learn a bit about her traumatic past and get a glimpse into the love story between her and her forbidden high school crush. More importantly, we get a taste of what we can expect with Olympus and the three mysterious men who run it: Apollo, Ares and Hades. If this story is an appetizer, I'm already excited for the main course.
Thrill introduced us to the characters, and the setting for the Sterling Falls series. This prequel was just what I needed. It was a quick read, and I found myself intrigued by Elora, Saint, and everyone else.
I really enjoyed how everything played out, and cannot wait to see more of Elora and Saint as side characters.
I am ready for Thief to be released. I have a feeling the Sterling Falls series is going to be quite the ride.
This is a good novella/prequel for the Sterling Falls series. It gives us a little taste of what to expect and an introduction to the characters.
It started a little slow but once the pace and action started it continued until the end. I’m excited to start the series and see what happens to these characters.
So I totally wish I had read this before the rest of the series. I just happened to come across the series and didn’t think about looking for a prequel novella. (I just get so caught up when I find the first book in a series that I don’t do my research until after the fact 😅) I love how it set up the series, makes me want to reread it now that I have Nyx and Saint’s story and the starting point.
I love this quick peek into the upcoming series. Elora was an absolute bad a m f and I'm so excited to see we get more of her and Saint in upcoming books. I loved the spice between them and their mini hea. But mostly I am SO excited to get to truly meet Hades, Ares and Apollo. If Thrill is anything to go by, I am in for a treat.
Prequel novel more about setting the stage for the world; however, the FMC does have a lot of growth which is awesome to see. I did find it odd she didn't want to join a gang but then joined a gang promising to get rid of the other gangs. However, I am excited to see where the story goes from here and how she shapes the FMC in the rest of the series.
I absolutely love this quick read. I decided to read it before diving into the series and am SO glad I did. It checked ALL the boxes for what I like in a short story. It was engaging, I loved the MFC, Elora aka Nyx. She is a strong survivor and I always love that in a MFC. This is a great intro to Sterling Falls and I cannot wait to start Thieif next.
Fantastic intro to Sterling Falls and the beginning of a dark dynasty with a trio of hotties out for domination and revenge. The romance between Saint and Nyx is sexy hot. I love the transformation of Elora into badass fighter Nyx. I can’t wait for more of this series.
I couldn’t really get into the story. I really like Saint’s character but I’m kind of eh about Elora. Maybe if it wasn’t a RH I’d be more interested in continuing the story just for Saint but I’m just not invested enough.
Quick book-intro to the series. Halloween party where SAINT and Nyx get together after having a crush on each other in high school. Nyx is attacked by the man who kidnapped her years ago, but she fights him off and Hades kills him. Nyx agrees to stay and fight for the 3 guys who run the place.
