Robyn and Lena constantly meet at the most inconvenient times of their lives. Robyn Marcellous is a domestic violence detective for the city. Lena is a business owner who happens to be the Governor's daughter. Will they ever connect or will their lives keep them apart?
I assumed this would be a romance novella but it's not structured like one. The initial premise kept me reading but it was very underdeveloped.
Still - the writing was not great. You need to do more than just say "I was jealous" or "I was angry" to properly convey the emotions on page - main characters were all stiff as cardboard - actual love interest was introced too late or properly - for the setting, her job and their traumas, there was a lot brushed over in terms of actually depicting and discussing those things
And I know it's not what the author intended but the excessive use of male and female made me think of black pill/red pill/incel communities every single time. CW for SA.
This was an unexpected story. Robyn is a cop working the streets, defending women at bars. Defending Lena at a bar from her abusive boyfriend. Lena is the daughter of the governor and sick of the restraints of that life. She is involved in the drug trade thanks to her boyfriend LJ. Robyn is struggling with her relationship to Amelia.
This story was short and could have benefited from a few more chapters to further tie things up at the end.
The story has a lot of potential, with the plotlines, it was just a shame that they weren't that well worked out. It felt like the ideas were just put on paper with some words thrown in between them. The characters as well had a lot of potential, but it felt to me like a lot of them were the same. Plus some things came really out of the blue, that made it hard to follow the storyline.
I will give this book a five....because it was a really good read. But girl you need a proof reader really bad...too many typos and really bad grammar. Really stops the flow of the story when we have to stop and figure out what you are trying to say. 🐼
2 stars. This was a damn mess. The writing was choppy and the plot was so unfocused and it was easy to get the characters mixed up since everyone felt the same. The cover is pretty though and is definitely the best thing about this book.
First time reviewing a book. I gave this book 5 stars because I enjoyed the story lines. Also the connection to the other book (Queenie). There were plot twists I didn’t see coming and had me hooting and hollering lol. Great book!
Everything is well constructed and flowing until the end of chapter 5. When Kat enters... the storyline takes a nose dive... Was the direction lost? Contradicting truth...idk...
A nice read I wish the author would have spent a little time exploring why Dudley kept sleeping with Robyn's left overs. The storyline was decent with good characters and evolved as it went on. I enjoyed it.
I loved this book and all of the messiness that was Robyn's love life. I didn't know who the hell she would end up with. And somehow I knew that creep had something to do with her too 🤦🏿♀️
