Love After Life #2

Something to Live For

Rate this book
The end came in the blink of an eye.

For me, nothing changed.

The emptiness that was my life before was the same after everything was gone.

Until I found her.

It should have been impossible, but now I have her.

There’s nothing I won’t do to keep her.

This is a quiet little novel where the author gives the H and H, Hunter and Bell not only time to get to know each other, but for some level of healing to take place, and they both need it. There's not a lot of fast paced action here but what there is gets the heart pumping. A good second installment to the series.

Desperately needed proofreading before publishing, not even edited, just read through.

And Yes! Hunter & Belle’s story is Darn Good Too!!

When I say I LOVE Kaye’s writing style, I mean I love her characters & the backstory she weaves & how in a series they connect.

Hunter & Belle’s story & how he found her in a crazy world of walking dead & militias gone straight up evil is such a fresh take on this storyline. Literally I think a new genre has been created!

When I give reviews I don’t give away the story itself. I will say that there s book is good and I hope she expands this series!!!! I see so many characters I want to know about!

Amazing

I have been WAITING for this book and just read it in a couple of hours. I wish I had better descriptions of the people, but this was such a GOOD read. I could feel how much Hunter loved Bell from the moment he entered the storyline. And that Bell was drawn to Hunter much the same. I would LOVE a short story of a conversation between the two of them of their light stalking of each other before everything fell apart and maybe of what happened to her parents.

I just loved this story so much that I am immediately starting the first book again and then reading this one. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I love having stories with intelligent black women like Bell and Angel. :)

3.5⭐️ Book 2, Something to Live For, in the Love After Life series, continues the post-apocalyptic, zombie infested motif featuring MCs Bell and Hunter. Before all hell broke loose, Bell worked as a librarian and part-time at the prison. Thankfully, she was not working in the prison at the time of the viral outbreak. She is a brave, intelligent and strong-willed, black woman, who is alone and has eluded the Zombies for months, only now to be captured and collared by a group of marauding men who’ve banded together to fight the zombies and to capture weak, bedraggled uninfected people as prisoners to do their bidding. These unsavory men allude to specific plans for the “feisty” Bell, since they haven’t had a woman since the strange virus began turning people into the living dead.

Hunter is a survivalist raised by a bigoted father who taught him how to prepare for the eventuality of an apocalypse; however, while no one envisioned that the world would be overrun with walking dead, flesh-eating zombies, Hunter instinctively knows how to kill these things to ensure that they never rise again.

Hunter is lethal and also extremely intelligent. With little introspection, Hunter's been looking for someone. On some level, he acknowledges to himself that he’s looking for her, for Bell. He has to know whether or not she has survived. As he roams the area, he witnesses Bell’s capture by the marauders. Hunter has known Bell since third grade, and while he thinks he owes her nothing, he still feels compelled to save her. He surmises that he must use his smarts and ingenuity to free Bell from this dangerous gang.

Accordingly, these details represent the framework for this book. Comparatively, Book 2 is a much more compelling read than the first book, notwithstanding the fact that it is much less chaotic or action-intensive. Hunter’s and Bell’s characters are complex, very well-drawn and sharply rendered. The slow unfurling of their respective pasts reveals the admirable strength of character they each possess. Further, the arduous, sometimes gruesome journey Hunter and Bell must traverse, as well as myriad actions that are of paramount importance for them to undertake for their continued survival, add considerable depth to the story.

In conclusion, despite the fact that I’m not fully acclimatized to apocalyptical romances, in my estimation, this story is intriguing, suspenseful and captivating. I recommend it to readers who are familiar with this trope. Those who have not familiarized themselves with this theme should be forewarned.

PLEASE NOTE:Unfortunately, there is an irritating number of proofreading problems here as I observed in Book 1. Additionally, as I specified in my scathing review of the first book, a content warning due to the disturbing subject matter and extreme graphically depicted violence in this book/series should have been given. Further, an informative synopsis about the book’s overriding apocalyptic theme would have been more forthright, IMHO. Fortunately for me, after having read Book 1 (*shudders*), I was not blindsided and knew what to expect.

In Something to Live For, Kaye Blue takes readers back to the zombie apocalypse but with a quieter, more character-driven story. We briefly met Hunter in the first book and noted his interest in the prison’s librarian, Bell. When the story starts, Bell has survived alone but has recently run afoul of one of the many roaming bands of opportunists. Without sharing his motives, Hunter secures her release and takes her to the safety of his secluded cabin. Taciturn Hunter and gregarious Bell dance around each other, gradually building a solid bond of connection. Hunter had always loved Bell, and she was aware of him but could not gauge his feelings for her. Now that they have time and opportunity will they find love as the world falls apart, or will outside forces interfere with love in the time of the apocalypse? Hunter was quietly sweet, and I loved that Bell was able to see beneath his blunt exterior to the kind, supportive man he was. The story did not end with a cliffhanger, but we can see that Ms. Blue has more zombie tales to tell!

Favorite Lines:
Yeah, but it is probably easier to be quiet than it is to get killed.
It was like living a homesteader’s dream save the whole zombie thing.

I was very excited to start this book, especially after the synopsis. I absolutely love "forbidden" love, or teenage "longed for you" kinda love!
And Kaye Blue delivered that in this book and more. I loved the longing both Bell and Hunter had for each other- better yet, I loved the past they shared and the misunderstanding they had between the two of them.
This gave their love story a strong background, also a stumbling block to overcome.
This story was nice and slow, and gave action, yet made time for sweet moments shared between the MCs.

I wish there were more words, though, as the ending came too soon for me.
I absolutely loved these two characters, and would have liked for them to admit their long-held feelings more, to each other!

Thanks Ms Blue!

Nice

So, I was kind of disappointed that this was not the continuation of the first book. We did see the MMC and MFC in the 1st book, but in this book, the second book, the first couple is completely removed living in a different location. I kept waiting for these MC to make their way to the same place, but it did not happen.

I could have used a bit more detail, but I still loved the story. It is written well enough, and it is a slow burn. Do not expect a high drama, spicy romance. This is a survival story where people happen to fall in love through bonds created in traumatic events. It is a dark romance because the MMC is an anti-hero.

Looking forward to the new books in this world.

Good

Hunter has only ever wanted Bell. Bell barely knew Hunter, but she knows that he won’t hurt her, and that’s good enough.

This is more like a novella, but I found it to be pretty good. Most of the book is over before Bell is confirmed to be black, but it doesn’t take away from the story. I do wish that there was a little more going on, but the two characters had enough prior drama going on that it wasn’t necessary.

I recommend this anyone who likes there romance to have zombies.

Skipped: No
Progress: Read

MMC had a horrible childhood, his dad was abusive. MMC and FMC knew eachother before the zombie apocalypse, and MMC had always like FMC. MMC saves FMC and they live in a cabin MMC made. Good book, the ending was a bit of a shame though, FMC and MMC move from their safe cabin to be with a friendly group, but theres a cliffhanger ending: "A storm's coming Hunter," he said. "Feels like it," said Hunter (MMC)... Very disapointing ending, because you just want the MC's to be happy...

Love & devotion

My title to my review describes Hunter perfectly. He survived his abusive father. Found solace in Bell from the moment he saw her.
Fast forward to the apocalypse and one goal was set in this mind. Find his Bell.
She always knew they had a connection, but they grew up in circles around each other. Neither figured the end of the world would reunite them and they'd finally live to love.

Looking forward to the next

5 stars because Paranormal romance have a hold on me & this is a good story. I’ve seen some of the reviews and I will admit I have unanswered questions after finishing this book BUT this is a series and the author is building a world so I think answers are forthcoming. Also I’d like that they kept their heads on a swivel but they still had moments to connect and to love each other. What’s coming nicks has me very curious.

Great follow up

This was a great follow up to the first book in the series. I cannot wait for the 3rd installment. Hunter and Bell's story did not disappoint. While different in pace to the first it was still just as interesting. I cannot wait to see what follows this. I recommend this different but highly interesting series to anyone looking for something good to read.

Not Sure

Don't get me wrong, I really like this series, but it didn't seem to have the same drama and action as the first book did. And the typo's were a bit much , not to mention the added words throughout the story

Loving the series

This is different for me, but loving the series so far. On top of the world wide changes, Bell and Hunter have to deal with issues from the past, present and future. Nice mystery with a lot of 💘.

For the Love of Belle...

Hunter had loved Belle since they were children. He had not felt worthy of her affection due to a brutal upbringing by his racist father. And then the world ended, and everything changed.

He found her

Hunter was looking for the one person he didn't think he’d find when the world went to hell in a handbasket. Bell had survived on her own for some time, that is until some decided to her in like cattle. The second book is a slow burn.

Captivating and original storyline. Beautiful romance between characters with real depth. Great writing.

However, this story has the same problem as the first book: no real ending, no HEA, and so many unanswered questions.

Bell and Hunter

I liked this book better than book 1, mainly because I liked Bell and Hunter more than Angel and Lucas. Also because this book had a better flow to it. I'm hoping we learn more about Langley in the next book .

The story was well written and believable, with characters that were likable. The story pacing was excellent with just the right among of gore for it being story love in the time of a "Zombie" outbreak. Really an enjoyable read.

ok

Not the best but not the worst. There was one zombie in the whole book. Kind of angsty and woe is me. Was just ok.
