Solution: (5a² + 3a - 6) - (3a² -a +5)
Eliminate the parenthesis remembering that the sign minus (-) changes the signs of all terms within the
5a² +3a -6 - 3a² + a -5
Now you can execute the algebraic sum by grouping first the similar
(5-3)a² + (3+1)a + (-6 -5) = 2a² + 4a -11
Problem 2: Solve the Equation - ( 7 - 3x) = -2(1-x) + 8x + 3x
1) Eliminate the -7 + 3x = -2 + 2x + 8x + 3x
2) Isolate the terms with x on the left side of equation (remember to change the sign for eaxh term moved from right to the left and viceversa) and constants on the right side
3x -2x -8x -3x = 7 -2
4) execute the algebraic sum on both sides of the equation
- 10x = 5
5) Change the signs in both sides to get a positive term with x
