Living an idyllic life in Wyoming, Thalia Clairmont is completely unaware that her world is about to be turned upside down. Step into the next dimension with The Shadow Princess, the newest story in The Chronicles of the Stone Veil series from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett.

My name is Thalia Clairmont and I am heir to the throne of Vyronas. A title that was unknown to me after the love of my life, Bastien Dunne, had me stripped of my memories and sent me through the veil into another dimension. He maintains it was for my protection after my parents were killed and our kingdom was overthrown, but I see it as a betrayal.

Overwhelmed by my feelings of both love and anger for Bastien, I quickly understand that things aren’t what they once were. Vyronas is at war and an evil sorceress has claimed my throne by casting her blood magic to subjugate my people. With my memories returned, I realize Bastien isn’t the man I once loved and has instead become a distant, hardened warrior whose heart is as cold as ice.

My magic alone cannot defeat the blood sorcery, so I delve into the deepest shadows to find a way to regain control of my kingdom. Can I defeat evil without succumbing to the darkness? And will Bastien and I be able to reclaim the love we once shared? I am the Shadow Princess and it’s time for me to reclaim my throne.

The Shadow Princess is a standalone second chance romance with a fantastical flourish within The Chronicles of the Stone Veil series.

4.5 stars--THE SHADOW PRINCESS is the sixth instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s adult CHRONICLES OF THE STONE VEIL erotic, fantasy series. This is twenty-seven year old Princess Thalia Clairmont of Vyronas, and commandant Bastien Dunne’s story line. THE SHADOW PRINCESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person (Thalia) and third person (Bastien) THE SHADOW PRINCESS focuses on the return of Princess Thalia Clairmont of Vyronas. Seven years earlier, in an effort to protect the sole heir to the throne, Thalia Clairmont was bespelled, and sent to live in the First Dimension aka Earth aka Wyoming where she would live and flourish, never knowing her true identity or the powers she controlled. Fast forward to present day wherein the Vyronas commandant Bastien Dunne is tasked with retrieving the soon to be queen, Thalia Clairmont, the woman he once loved but a woman who must now rule in the face of death and destruction. Ferelith, an evil sorceress, has been using blood magic, a forbidden form of alchemy, to take control and destroy anyone who opposes her siege but the wielders of blood magic become more powerful with every kill, and Thalia only knows of one person capable of teaching our heroine how to manipulate those powers. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Thalia and Bastien, and the potential fall-out as Ferelith sets her sights on our story line heroine, taking aim at man who controls Thalia’s heart.

Bastien Dunne lost all emotions and feelings the day Thalia was exiled to the First Dimension. Seven years yearning for the woman he once loved, Bastien struggled with Thalia’s return and his inability to move beyond the feelings no longer under his control. Thalia Clairmont’s memories and powers returned upon her arrival in the dimension where she was born but Thalia battled between head and heart believing betrayal was at the center of her exile and banishment. Reuniting with Bastien was made more difficult with Bastien’s less than welcoming attitude and emotions, emotions of which he no longer controlled. An impending war with Ferelith has Thalia searching for help, help that will reveal the truth about who she is, and of what she is capable.

The relationship between Bastien and Thalia is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between two people who had fallen in love years before but destroyed by a need to protect, preserve and defend. Thalia was still in love with the man that broke her heart, and proving he is worthy meant sacrificing in the face of danger and death. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Bastien’s brother Kieran Dunne; Thalia’s cousin Archer, their uncle Hephastus; several members of the Vyronas’ Conclave including Chief Laina Mercea; demigod Maddox; fallen angel/Dark Fae/leader of the Underworld Amel; and sorceress Ferelith Haramish. I am hoping the author has plans for Kieran, Maddox and Amel.

THE SHADOW PRINCESS is a complex and enchanted story of power and control, death and destruction, magic and the black arts, second chances and love. The premise is detailed, intriguing and dramatic; the characters are spirited and edgy; the romance is intimate and tender.

This cover is freaking GORGEOUS!

Can I say how happy I am to be back in the World of Chronicles of the Stone Veil. When I first entered this world that Sawyer Bennett created about a year ago it took me a while to really fall in love with it, I enjoyed the first book but by the end of the second one I wanted more, more, more and here we are with Book #6 - which by the way can be read as a complete standalone as it takes place after the events in first five books - and I am still hoping for more!

THE SHADOW PRINCESS takes place in Vyronas which is another dimension, First Dimension is earth, where Ferelith is raging war on the people with plans on taking over. Princess Thalia Clairmont of Vyronas has been sent to the first dimension after her parents were killed for her safety now seven years later it is time for her to come back and fight the war and win back the Throne that is hers.

Bastien Dunne is the leader of the Army of Vyronas, he will do whatever he needs to do to protect the princess no matter the cost. NO MATTER THE COST!

Bastien had once been the love of Thalia's life but she considers the things he did a betrayal, can they work together to overthrow the Sorcerer that is using Blood Magic or will feelings get in the way?

This story had me sucked in from the very first page, there is so much going on and I loved it all. I would recommend this book to those that enjoy Steamy Paranormal Romances, Second Chance at Love, or Fated Mates (soul mates).

Happy Reading!!!

Getting a chance to revisit the world of Vyronas, with its light and dark magic and inhabitants, was an unexpected treat. Although the sixth book in the series, this story can certainly be read as a stand-alone as anything needed to enjoy this romance is given to the reader as they go. You do miss the richness of the background and the history of side characters if you have not read the prior books, but it still is a mystical journey into a world where nothing is black and white. Gods reign, power is coveted, treachery abounds, and good and evil wage a daily battle.

This installment brings us the story of Bastien and Thalia, the commandant of the Clairmont army and the exiled princess. As the heir to the throne, for her own safety Thalia Clairmont is banished to the First Dimension, sent to live in Wyoming with no knowledge of her past. But as a battle wages on in her home dimension, the time comes when she must return to claim her rightful place on the throne. She is collected by her former lover, Bastien Dunne, the man entrusted with protecting her, but also the man responsible for her banishment. As a manner of keeping her safe, Bastien strengthened the magic by infusing it with all of his love for the princess, removing it once and for all from his heart, and transferring it to the spell to keep her secure. However, now that he has come to take her back to Vyronas, Bastien feels a sense of duty towards Thalia, but the love that once sustained him is gone.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story because it had such wonderful characters that I couldn’t help but care for them. Thalia was strong and resourceful, and Bastien was the stern protector. They started as lovers but after the memories and feelings were removed, they were given a second chance to see if that love was real, to see if it would grow again. I loved watching these two remember what it was about the other that they fell in love with in the first place, and getting another opportunity to learn to love the person that their soul was always meant to adore.

With battles and romance and a cast of characters I loved, everything became so real, despite the magic and fanciful universe. This was a fast paced story where I could not put down my kindle, a real treat as I didn’t know another story was being made in this universe, and a teaser to what may come with future characters. I am invested in these gods and monsters and everything in between and am in awe of the world that was created.

The Shadow Princess is book 6 of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil by Sawyer Bennett. It is a standalone fantasy romance. Dual POV with a happy ending.

For the past seven years Thalia Clairmont has been happily tending to her horses in Wyoming, believing she’s a regular human when in reality she’s the Princess of Vyronas, an alternate dimension where magic exists.

When Commandant Bastien Dunne comes through the veil to take her back and restores her memories, she’s not only faced with an all-out war against an evil sorceress, but with the emotional turmoil of realizing that it was her soulmate Bastien, who took her memories all those years ago and sent her to Earth.

I LOVED going through the Veil once more into this magical dimension Sawyer Bennett has created!

Thalia is a great female lead who is very easy to love. She’s strong, smart and caring. She’s face with obstacle after obstacle and doesn’t give up. She loves her people and is determined to see them free and thriving.

Bastien is a complex character. He’s loyal to his family, his people and Thalia. He’s suffered through if not more emotional upheaval, and I understood where he was coming from, but I had trouble connecting with him.

The two are facing incredible odds, both as a couple and as leaders of their people. Their story had me glued to my eReader from start to finish and enjoying every second of it.

Amongst the layers of goodness in this story are the secondary characters, some new some old (please, pretty please Sawyer, write Amell’s story) which I loved along with the wonderful building which allowed me to picture this story with incredibly detail and vividness.

THE SHADOW PRINCESS is a wonderful addition to the series and perfect for any fantasy romance enthusiast.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Thalia Clairmont lives happily on her ranch in Wyoming. Her parents are no longer with her, but she wants to continue to grow their legacy on the ranch they left to her. While she’s happy, she admits to sometimes feeling like something is missing. Thalia’s life is soon turned upside down when she is attacked by creatures in her barn one night and is then rescued by two brothers Bastien and Kieran Dunne who are just as unbelievable as the creatures attacking her.

The brothers inform her that they are there to not only rescue her but return her to their realm to help save their home, Vyronas, where she just happens to be the heir to the throne. Although everything they tell Thalia sounds completely crazy to her, deep down she believes them and somewhat reluctantly follows them. When she returns to the other realm things come back to her like the fact that she and Bastien not only have a past, but they were deeply in love and engaged. She discovers that it was Bastien who made the decision to send her away and not only erase her memories of her home and him, but he opted to erase her from his heart with no memory of what it was like to love her.

Thalia is also relearning her powerful magic, but at the same time learns that her magic is not enough to defeat Ferelith, the sorceress who is using blood magic to take over Vyronas and that she herself may have to learn this forbidden magic to defeat Ferelith.

Seven years ago, Bastien Dunne made two very difficult decisions. The first was to send Thalia to the First Dimension known as Earth with no memories of her old life to protect her, and the second was to have the love he felt for her removed from his heart. The day has come for Thalia to return to home to take her throne and help defeat the evil Sorceress Ferelith. Bastien’s main goal is to keep Princess Thalia protected at any cost, but he’s finding that his heart may not be completely empty of his feelings for her.

This is book number 6 in a series, so if you haven’t read the previous books, I’d suggest reading those first. I’m not saying it’s one hundred percent necessary to read them, but it will help in understanding the dynamics of Thalia and Bastien’s world better. I don’t dislike paranormal books, but I don’t necessarily flock to them either. Admittedly I picked up this series because it’s a work of Sawyer Bennett and this series is a departure from her typical books, but once again I am not disappointed.

There wasn’t much I didn’t like about this story. There was just the right balance of reality and fantasy. Although some of the descriptions were heavy on the mystical and I had to reread a few sections, it wasn’t so much that it overpowered the basis of the story which was second chance love/romance. I liked every character, which is odd, because they were so well written that even the worst of the worst had some type of appeal to them.

I immediately connected with Bastien from page one. I don’t know what it was, but I knew from the moment I read the first words about him, I’d like him. Like the story itself, Bastien was well balanced. He was dark and broody at times, but his vulnerability was very present. He openly expressed his mixed emotions about Thalia. There was something about the way he was written that made him more “real”. I really felt this when Bastien visits Merrilyn. Typically, the Hero’s past is glossed over. It’s known that he had past relationships, but no real details are given.

Bastien’s past is directly dealt with, it’s made clear that it’s been sever years since Thalia has been ripped from his life and he hasn’t been living the life of a monk. It’s also made very clear that there was a constant in his life during that time, Merrilyn. It’s here where I felt like I got the first glimpse of his vulnerability because he makes it clear that while he cared for Merrilyn, their relationship will only ever be physical. You could see that somewhere deep down, Thalia was still in his heart.

Thalia has a lot going on. On top of reacclimating herself to her old life and dealing with what she considers the ultimate betrayal for Bastien; she’s still in love with him. She also learns that she she’s not exactly who she thought she was and she has a direct link to the very blood magic that she fears. Sometimes in stories when the heroine learns she’s not who she initially thought she was, their “acceptance” of their role can be a little annoying, but I didn’t get that with Thalia. It took her a minute to get her footing but once she did, I enjoyed her growth. I liked how she was determined to get Bastien to allow himself to feel again, but she didn’t come off as needy or whiney.

There is always that one character, aside from the main characters, who kind of steals the show and/or your heart and in this story, it was Kieran, Bastien’s brother. I adored him! He was Bastien’s “Jiminy Cricket”, as well as Thalia’s shoulder to lean on, and the comic relief when needed. I don’t know if he needs his own story, but I’d definitely like to see more of him in the future.

There are other characters that are introduced who had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out if they would be friend or foe- like Thalia’s uncle who was banned from Vyronas for using “blood magic”, Thalia’s cousin Archer, and Bastien’s ex-lover Merrilyn. The biggest question mark being the powerful dark fae Amell, who was Zora’s guardian in the previous books of this series. He plays a major role in Thalia accepting who she truly is and learning to use what is deep inside of her to defeat Ferelith. There’s also a visit or two from Maddox (swoon).

If you read the other books in the series, you know the majority were cliffhangers. I AM NOT a fan of cliffhangers but thankfully there wasn’t a long wait for the next books. Going into The Shadow Princess I assumed it too would be a cliffhanger, so I prepared myself. I happy to report that it is not a cliffhanger, and you’ll get your HEA at the end of the book, but the ride there has some angsty moments.

This is a quick read and would be a nice poolside or beach day read. If you haven’t read the series, I’d suggest adding it to your summer reading list.

I’m loving the Chronicles of the Stone Veil, and The Shadow Princess may be favourite story to date. Thalia Clairmont is ripped from her solitary life on her Wyoming ranch after being attacked by what can only be described as monsters from another planet. Turns out they’re ‘erchras’ from another dimension, sent to kill her. Taken back to her true homeland (Vyronas), and her memory restored by her ex fiancé, Bastien, she learns that for 7 years she was brainwashed and banished to a safer environment whilst war waged in Vyronas. Lots of action, and lots of twists and turns, as Bastian and Thalia battle blood magic along with evil supernaturals a plenty, as they try to regain control of their homeland, all while trying to make sense of their feelings for each other. A true fantasy action romance, and even if you’re not familiar with the series, this book can quite easily be read as a standalone, but I will say, it would be a shame to miss out on the previous books. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.

I was so excited when I heard we were getting another book in the Chronicles of the Stone Vale and considering I’m not a big paranormal/fantasy fan that should tell you how good this series is. All I’m going to say is Thalia Clairmont and Bastien Dunne’s story was everything I expected and so much more. The Shadow Princess is the perfect addition to this wonderful, magical series.
Thalia is living a solitary life on her Wyoming ranch until she is attacked by monsters and this is where Bastien comes into his own when he steps up to protect the heir to the throne of Vyronas.
This story will keep you the edge of your seat as you become involved with the mystery, the suspense as well as some wonderful magical moments. I loved everything about this captivating tale, I fell hard and fast for the characters and became engrossed in their story, I found myself holding my breath as I watched this couple try and overcome the danger they find themselves in so will love win the day…..

This was about a new couple in the series, neither one did we see in the original series but we do get Maddox popping in as well as some others. These are characters who exist outside of the other realms. It was quite heart-breaking in parts and angsty in others. It grabbed at my heart. But I really wanted see more loving from Bastien after Thalia returned. I get he put all of his love inside of her as a price but I just felt we should've seen more of how he was with her before. For me it took too long for him to love her again or realize that he loved her again. And I guess I wanted his love for her to come back. I just didn't feel it was the same as before.

But still enjoyable.

5 Star review of The Shadow Princess (Chronicles of the Stone Veil # 6) by Sawyer Bennett

I’m not a huge fan of fantasy/paranormal but this series from Sawyer Bennett is out of this world and although a stand alone This is Thalia Clairmont and Bastien Dunne’s story and what a complicated story it is. Thalia is the heir to the throne of Vyronas something she was totally unaware of until all was revealed. Bastien is the head of her forces and was once the love of her life.

From the first chapter I was on the edge of my seat, heart pumping as I read The Shadow Princess. Ms. Bennett wove a story of suspense and intrigue that ticked the boxes for me.

There were numerous twists and turns which only added to my enjoyment of this book. Can these two overcome the past and the dangers that they face and in doing so reconnect and find the love they once shared?

I'm so happy I’ve rediscovered my love for PNR with Sawyer’s books. I'm absolutely blown away by how she manages to capture my attention for the very first page and keep it right till the very end. I've been a fan of this series since book 1 and was so happy to see that we'll be getting more of this world.

Thalia and Bastien were a couple very much in love until evil made him choose an impossible choice and send her away. When she finally returns nothing is the same, not her people and most definitely not Bastien..
Together they need to fight a bigger evil, so she needed to put aside her pride to help her people. But the more time they spend together, the attraction and love begins to take root once more.
With the help of unexpected friends both can find the strength within to win over evil and allow the heart to fill with love that was too great to be forgotten.

Last February Sawyer Bennett published the first book of her new fantasy series Chronicles of the Stone Veil. I love fantasy and Sawyer Bennett but to tell you the truth, it was hard for me to put this two together. At first, I wasn’t sure what should I expect but I was hooked, and then when the series ended, or I thought so, I was disappointed. Then she announced there will be more books in the series and I was delighted because there were so many more characters, I wanted to learn more about. However, this book wasn’t about the ones I was really curious about. I didn’t even know the hero or heroine before this book. Yet it was another enchanting story that left me yearning for more.

Princess Thalia is the sole heir to the throne of Vyronas after her parents were killed but Vyronas was invaded by Ferelith, the evil sorceress. Thalia lost too much in a short period, her parents, and her kingdom, but she was still hopeful because she still had her soulmate, Bastien Dunne and they were trying to get Vyronas back. What she didn’t see coming was Bastein stripping her memories and sending her to the First Dimension, aka Earth. For seven years she lived on a horse ranch in Wyoming believing she is someone she is not. But one night everything in her world turns upside down when Bastien shows up to save her. At first, she thinks he is a crazy person but when he releases all her memories and she starts to remember, she is angry, confused, betrayed, and heartbroken. After hearing the message Gods delivered by Maddox, her only option is to follow Bastein back to Vyronas. She is an amazing heroine. She is smart, strong, loyal, and caring. But being back in Vyronas is both a blessing and a curse for her. She is happy to be back with her people, to fight with them, to get the freedom they deserve but facing a war with Ferelith is not the hardest thing, being in a battle with her emotions and facing Bastain on a daily basis is. Even though it is a struggle for her, she cannot dwell on her feelings, she has to fight for her people, for everything she lost. Despite the fact she comes from the strongest line of magic, her being a Clairmont won’t be enough to win the war. For them to have a fighting chance against Ferelith, they need alliances and knowledge about blood magic. The journey she started to win the war soon becomes a journey to the truths.

I love every minute of this book. I was hooked from the beginning and also scared that there will be a cliffhanger at the end, and I had to wait to read this rest just like the first books. THANKS GOD this time there wasn’t any or at least not like before :) Yeah, I know I am too cryptic. Sorry, not sorry :) Also, I didn’t like Bastain but after learning what he chose to do so that he can be sure Thalia is safe made him one of my favorite BBFs :) Annnnnddd next book in the series is Amell’s, which I am dying to get my hands on:) THANK YOU Sawyer Bennett for this magical series that causes me sleepless nights :)

Would I recommend this book: Yes
Would I re-read this book: Yes
Would I read future books by this author: Yes

What a great surprise this book was! I’m already a fan of Sawyer’s work, but it’s the first time I’ve read one of her fantasy books.

I loved everything about it! The MFC was fierce, brave, compassionate, extremely lovable… and Bastien… he made me want to scream some times, but I felt for him. I wanted them to be happy so much I could barely wait for their H&A. He was the perfect tortured hero, who had to make a big sacrifice in the name of love and lost a part of himself.

The story has also a mean villain, magic, heartfelt moments, action, and wonderful secondary characters. I really hope Amell gets his book because he stole the show.

For me to like fantasy books they have to bring the element of romance to the story and Sawyer did it incredibly well in The Shadow Princess. I highly recommend this book

The Shadow Princess by Sawyer Bennett
Chronicles of the Stone Veil #6

Set in a different dimension from the previous five books of the series but still part of the complex interconnected Earth system, this story tells of second chances, royalty at risk, an evil sorceress, daemons, fae, and more. Some of the characters were from the previous five books but new ones and new realms unseen before were also introduced.

What I liked:
* Bastien Dunne: Commandant of Vyronas’ army, strong, wise, protective, gave more than most would to protect the princess he was engaged to, believes he will never love again…will he?
* Thalia Clairmont: princess of Vyronas, in hiding for seven years, brought back to thwart the evil sorceress and save her people, still feels stubborn Bastien is her soul mate.
* Kieran: Bastien’s younger brother, warrior, a bit more carefree and outgoing, wouldn’t mind seeing him in a book of his own.
* Maddox from book one showing up along with mention of the Gods and Zora – now a God, along with Amell…trying to remember Amell as I type this review. Might have to revisit the previous book…
* The dynamics and discourse between Bastien and Thalia as they find out whether or not their love can be rekindled
* The backstory explaining the situation
* Her uncle Heph’s part in the story
* Great world building, plot, writing, character development and potential for future books in the series
* Wondering if Amell’s story or someone else’s will come next
* Knowing that this series has many more potential books to look forward to.

What I didn’t like:
* Ferelith – evil sorceress bent on domination using dark blood magic to gain what she wants
* The traitor…and others that were also so very easy to dislike
* That there must have been so much suffering by so many – just as there is with war anytime it happens

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

M/F Fantasy
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Thalia is loving her life. Although she misses her parents, she knows that she’s doing the best she can and her horses will love her anyway. When a creature she’s never seen before comes for her, she will have to accept a new life, from a whole new perspective.

Bastien has loved Thalia his entire life. Despite coming from meager means, he had Thalia’s parent’s approval and blessing. When the unthinkable happens and war breaks out in their land, Verona’s, Bastien does what he believes will save Thalia, even if it means he has to lose her love and trust.

As Thalia regains her position in Vyronas, forces are working to keep Thalia from winning the war. Bastien is trying his best to keep Thalia at a distance since he can no longer care for her and Thalia is fighting on 2 fronts - 1 against those who would imprison her people and 2 - for Bastien and his love again.

These are fantastic books that are easily read in 1 sitting. Bennett will grab you from the onset and keep you at the edge of your seat.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the sixth book in the series - but I read it as a standalone, and did not feel I was missing clues ... I guess when I go back and catch up, I will know if that is really true, but I did not feel it was.

I really enjoyed the build up, the concept and how the story played out. The narrative hung together well, and whilst one has to buy into the new world being offered, it worked for me. The point when Thalia comes to understand just how much Bastien has done and suffered in her absence is beautifully written. The danger they face, and the chemistry they have makes for an engaging love story.

A good mix of the supernatural, fighting forces unbeknown and a reawakening romance make this a page turner, and I definitely recommend it to you.

The Shadow Princess👸

Bastien has been fighting a war against Ferelith for seven years and it seems as though nothing they do makes a dent in her hold. When Maddox visits him to tell him it’s time for the true ruler of their realm to return, Bastien is reluctant until Maddox produces a ring of protection that should be protecting the princess💍

Thalia owns a horse ranch in Wyoming and when creatures who look ghastly approach her, she freaks out. However, it’s the two men who arrive after that blow her mind with their revelations❣️A fantastic addition to this series and I’m excited to learn more about Amell and Bastien’s brother, Kieran😍

The Shadow Princess by S. Bennett is book six in the Chronicles of the Veil. The books are best read in order.
Thalia Clairmont is the heiress to the throne. And Bastien is the head of her force. They bond together to fight for her birthright, for the better of the Veil.
A suspenseful, impossible to put down read. A story that I read cover to cover in one sitting. A story full of twists and unexpected turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

This was so much more than a second chance romance - it was also about sacrifice, courage, and leadership. I absolutely loved it!

"It's time to retrieve your princess and put her on the throne to become queen."

Thalia Clairmont is living her quiet life on her horse ranch in Wyoming. She might be lonely sometimes but she is content. The arrival of an unearthly monster, as well as two strangers, shatters her world and everything she believed to be true. She suddenly finds herself with her true memories and back through the veil in the land of Vyronas - where she is heir to a throne that has been seized by an evil sorceress, Ferelith. The gods deemed that it was time for Thalia to come home, which is why Bastien Dunne brought her back. Bastien who was the love of her life. Bastien who betrayed her. Bastien who seems detached from her and devoid of any feelings. And, then, she learns why. Not only is she fighting to regain her crown, but also a love that was always meant to be.

"I know you have to feel something for me. Love is more powerful than magic."

This author is a fantastic world-builder. Her words painted a vivid backdrop and clear images of the characters. Thalia was strong, gutsy, devoted to her people and the cause, and willing to do whatever it took to overthrow Ferelith. Bastien had all of my sympathy. His love for Thalia was all-encompassing. The sacrifice he made broke my heart and his fear to love again was real. I felt for his inner turmoil and emotional battle. He was a character of great honour and respect, and untiring in his endeavours.

I loved seeing a couple of characters from the previous novels (you don't have to read them first to enjoy this one), and the way they were woven into the plot. This story was a great addition to this series. It was heartbreaking, passionate, and full of intricacies and revelations. Loved it!

A spellbinding, complex & magical read

THE SHADOW PRINCESS
is a powerful, fantastical standalone from Sawyer Bennett's brilliant paranormal series Chronicles Of The Stone Veil. It is the story of war, good vs evil, and a love that must conquer the hardest of obstacles. Thalia Clairmont and Bastien Dunne are fascinating yet complicated, just like their story. Sawyer's words are a magical feast and held me completely spellbound.

"Never forget that everything I do for you, I do out of love."

For Thalia Clairmont, a ranch in Wyoming has always been home, or so she thought. For seven years he has worked hard on the ranch left to her by her parents, life as she knew it was about to change. Attacked in her barn by creatures that could only be described as evil, two unknown men save Thalia's life. Who are they, and where did they come from? Seven years earlier Bastien Dunne made a heartbreaking decision to protect they only woman he had ever loved. Against his wishes he sent her to Wyoming without any of her memories and with new ones planted into her mind. Bastien, now commandant of the army, has been sent to retrieve Thalia and return her to home on Vyronus, so that she can reclaim her throne and defeat Ferelith an evil sorceress. Prior to returning to Vyronus Bastien restores Thalia's memories, resulting in both happiness and heartbreak. Thalia realises that she is in love with Bastien, however he shows her nothing but indifference. What has happened for Bastien's emotions to change so dramatically? What will happen when Thalia and Bastien return to Vyronus?

"As I lie here in the dark, it's only to myself that I'll probably love him until the day I die."

THE SHADOW PRINCESS
is an emotional read that pulled on every one of my heartstrings. Thalia and Bastien's story broke my heart, to know what Bastien had to sacrifice to keep Thalia safe was shattering. Constantly struggling with thoughts he shouldn't have, and recalling memories from his past, Bastien's predicament called to me. I really wanted him to regain what he had lost. I felt for Thalia, she desperately wanted to have the Bastien from seven years earlier, but she knew it may never happen. Would they be able to recapture what was lost?

"Thalia Clairmont ... exhibits no weakness to anyone."

Not only is this story a battle of hearts, it is also a battle of two strong women, Thalia and Ferelith. Who will come out on top? While preparing for the battle, Thalia learns secrets about herself. One secret will increase her strength and ability, and this was a real shocker! It was a twist I never saw coming ... totally brilliant. I loved the growth and development of Thalia's character, she was always strong but her mental strength grew, as did her belief in herself and others who were there to safeguard her.

Thalia and Bastien are the central characters of this story, however the numerous secondary characters certainly had their own impact. Kieran, Bastien's brother, was my favourite. He was a wonderful support for both Bastien and Thalia, and he had a wicked sense of humour. There are two other characters important to Thalia, but no clues here.

I fell in love with the original books in the Chronicles Of The Stone Veil series, and Sawyer has made me fall in love with this mesmerising standalone. Her words are magical as they weave a spell of paranormal, fantasy and reality all mixed into one. I cannot wait for the next standalone in this series, The Midnight Realm.

Be careful about jumping into the middle of this series.

The blurb states that, even though this book is sixth in this series, that it is a stand alone title. This is the first book I've read from this series, and I do feel a little lost and did feel confused in places in the book like I was missing out on something, but I can't possibly know what that is. I think someone would get much more enjoyment from this book by reading the series in order.

I haven't really been enjoying the trend of "grumpy" heroes, but this one was more tolerable. He had a legitimate reason for being grumpy that I'm not going to spoil you and tell you about. For me, that's different than just being a general grumpy-pants.

I enjoy the world the author built with electricity and water running by magic, and an invented tree name (unless I'm really bad at looking up what pressian trees are...LOL). I could see a lot of the world and the action in my mind as though it were playing out like a movie.

I took two half-stars off for a couple of things. I picked out "the bad guy" very early on. I wrote someone else as a guess in my kindle notes only because I didn't think the author would use someone so obvious. But she did. So that was a half point. The other one was for misuse of the epilogue. It has become a pet peeve of mine when authors toss cliffhangers or teasers about the next book in the series in an epilogue. That's not what they're for. Look up the definition. This book leaves us hanging, wondering what happened to the hero from the next book in the series. That turns me off from wanting to buy it. So there goes a half star.

Overall, these two things did not affect my enjoyment of the book. I really liked it. If I have the opportunity to read the whole series, I will likely do so. I enjoy this author's writing and suspect I would enjoy this entire series if I read it in order, which would increase my enjoyment of this book. So I do recommend it with a caveat. Read the series in order.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Unlike the previous books in this series, you don’t need to read those in order to enjoy this book. The other stories were all one arc for Finley, Carrick, and her friends, a continuous story that was not resolved until book 5 in the series. While we do get a brief glimpse of Maddox and get to know Amell quite a bit more, this story isn’t about them and they were not main characters in the first books. Now, I’m personally glad I have the other stories under my belt because of the world-building so I’d still recommend you read them if you want the whole back story and to better understand the world in which these stories take place.

Where I felt the previous stories lacked the solid chemistry I’m accustomed to having in this author’s books, I was pleased to feel the air crackling between Thalia and Bastien. I wasn’t always happy with their responses to each other and grew quite annoyed with Bastien’s hot and cold attitude, but I couldn’t deny their connection.

This fantasy story has a mission, but that’s not really what the tale is about. There is the completion of the mission and all of the tension when things go awry toward the end, but the bigger story is Thalia and Bastien learning to trust themselves and each other once again. There is not much getting to know the villain, Ferelith. She’s talked about a lot and her minions wreak havoc, but she’s not shown in person until the end. That decision by the author really works out well in this story. It was a gamble, but the gamble paid off.

I really enjoyed this book being more contained to one story with a beginning, middle, and end with an HEA. It looks like the future books will follow a similar format, where we can visit some favorites and have some crossover but also have a self-contained story.

Demons, witches and angels oh my!
I am totally obsessed with this series. I absolutely loved that this was a new story line, but included some of our favorite characters from the original story. This story begins at the end of The Rise of Fortune and Fury (Chronicles of the Stone Veil Book 5). We get to see charming and handsome Maddox again. This time he gets to mettle in the affairs of another dimension called Vyronas, that is related to Earth realm. Maddox is on a mission for Zora (Finley’s twin), who became the new Goddess of life after her sister saved her and the rest of earth from Kymaris, the evil Dark Fae and fallen angel.
Maddox appears to Bastien who is a worn out and hopeless General of the army. He loves his kingdom and will do anything to safeguard the princess from Ferelith, the dark blood witch who declared herself Empress. Maddox explains that the hidden princess, Thalia, needs to come back to Vyronas and fight for her people. She is Bastien’s one true love and he gave up everything to ensure her safety. Now he needs to go and bring her back from Earth and give her all of her memories back. The problem is, that they shared a love deeper than anything, and it was sacrificed to keep her safe.
When Thalia regains her memory, she is furious and hurt by what Bastien’s done, and more determined then ever to end her people’s suffering. As she prepares for battle, she must also battle for Bastien’s heart and convince him that he can still love her. When Thalia’s powers grow, she learns that her father is Amell, who rules the Underworld. He helps her gain a foothold on her new powers in order to be able to save her people.
This story is full of treachery, broken hearts, evil, hope, passion, and love. Nail biter, up all-nighter, and It is such a great ride, you will not want to get off at the end.

The Shadow Princess is the sixth book in the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series, but if you haven't read any of the others, you could easily read this one without having knowledge of the other five books.

Thalia Clairmont is living on a ranch in Wyoming and enjoying her life. Her parents are no longer living and so she has taken on the task of continuing to run the family ranch. She's always felt a little unsettled like something isn't quite right, but she hasn't been able to determine what that is. One night she is attacked by creatures of another world while she is in her barn. Two brothers, Bastien and Kieren Dunne, show up to save her, but then turn her world upside down.

Not only have the brothers saved her, they are now going to take her back to Vyronas, which needs to be saved. She needs to return home because she is the heir to the throne and the only one who can save their home. Once home, memories from her life that were suppressed come flooding back. Those memories include the love she and Bastien shared for many years.

Now seven years later, she has to learn about parts of herself she didn't know about and she has to learn how to harness and use her powerful magic to help the people of Vyronas. Will she also be able to salvage the relationship she and Bastien shared?

I enjoyed this entire story and I'm not the biggest fantasy fan. This entire series from Sawyer Bennett has been great and it has just enough balance between the fantasy and reality, which makes it such an easy read.

Thalia Clairmont is heir to the throne of Vyronas and engaged to Bastien Dunne. When an attack is make to the kingdom, and the king and queen are killed, the Conclave force Bastien's hand and send Thalia to the Earth dimension for safety and they remove all of her memories. They also remove all the love Bastien ever felt for her inside of him. Seven years later and the war with the evil Ferelith is even worse. When Bastien is summoned by Maddox, one of the demi-gods to bring Thalia back, he is not happy but he is able to bring her back along with all of her memories. Thalia doesn't understand why Bastien doesn't feel anything for her anymore because she still has strong feelings for him. As Bastien and Thalia try to figure out how to defeat Ferelith, they continue to spend more time together. Thalia also has to dig deep inside herself to find the knowledge that will help her, even if it is darker ways. Throughout their journey, Bastien starts to have build new feelings for Thailia and together is how they end up defeating Ferelith and finding their happy ever after.

I just adored this second chance at love story. Thalia is one kick-butt heroine. I loved how she was willing to do anything to defeat Ferelith. I also really enjoyed watching Bastien find his love for Thalia all over again. They are both great, but together they are even better! This was a great addition to this fun world. If you enjoyed the first part of the series, you will love this one.

The Shadow Princess is a thrilling and captivating read that is perfect for those fantasy lovers who enjoy adventure, suspense, and of course romance. I was thrilled when I found out this author was diving back into the fantasy genre as The Chronicles of the Stone Veil is one of my favorite paranormal romance series. The Shadow Princess is a part of this series, but it is a complete standalone. The world building within this novel is magical and imaginative with all of the intricate details and rich descriptions of the characters, the landscape, and the fantastical world of Vyronas.

An original story, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the intrigue, action, and adventure that took place in this book along with the romance between Bastien and Thalia. Thalia is a strong and resilient heroine and I loved her immediately. Bastien’ s character is a tad more complex and it took me a bit longer to connect with him. These two have a complicated relationship and with so many outside and internal forces raining down on them, will they be able to find themselves back to each other and will they be able to take back Thalia’s birthright?

The Shadow Princess is a fast paced fantasy romance that kept me on the edge of my seat. The storyline was unique and the characters were well developed and interesting. This book is a definitely page turner and I truly hope that this author continues to write more novels within the series.

I voluntarily read an early version of this fantasy romance. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

The Shadow Princess is the 6th book in the Chronicles of the Stone Veil. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw there was another book in this series. I thought book 5 was “the end”. This book can be read as a standalone and it has its own HEA. If you have read any of the other books in this series you will recognize other characters. But if you want to just jump in and start reading you should be good to go.

This is Princess Thalia Clairmont and Commandant Bastien Dunne’s story. I won’t say much more than that about this book. I feel you need to read it and there are enough synopsis out there that I don’t need to say the same thing. I loved reading this book and series. There are twists and turns to the story to keep this book interesting. A page turner for sure!

I am a fan of Fantasy romance! I do think that Sawyer Bennett could write in any genre! To me Fantasy is a tough romance to write because you have to build a world along with all the characters in that world.

This is a complicated story and I really would love to have a glossary, a road map to who is who. I feel it would make for easier reading and would help make sense to the story.

I will end on how much I loved reading The Shadow Princess and I really love the new cover for this book. Does that mean all the books are getting a new cover too? I don’t know but I hope so.
