Stella Britton is thriving in her new home in Sunrise Beach. She’s getting along with her teenaged daughter, her paintings are selling, and she’s even thinking about teaching art classes in her studio. Things are beginning to look brighter than they have in a long time.
The renewed sense of confidence is short-lived, however. Just as she’s feeling like her life is back on track, dread of the unknown sets in. And then it happens.
An unexpected visit from her ex-husband’s mother is likely to upend the delicate balance she’s worked so hard to achieve.
Gwen Britton is kind, caring, and fun, but she’s also opinionated. And of course she has a fierce loyalty to her son. Stella doesn’t want to lose her relationship with the person who has been like a mother to her for decades, but she’s not sure if she can handle the constant pressure to take Jeff back.
Everything she’s built begins to fall apart. Stella struggles to protect her relationship with her daughter, her art career, and the independent life she’s grown to love. Will she be forced to cut ties with a woman she loves deeply to keep from losing herself?
This is the second book in the Sunrise Beach series.
Stella has opened her gallery of her paintings. To off set expenses she decides to teach the art of painting.
Stella's mother-in-law Gwen decides to come to visit Stella and her daughter.
Stella's husband is in prison as he embezzled from from his employer. It has taken Stella some time to come to terms with what her husband did - she divorced him and moved with her daughter to Sunrise Beach.
Issues have come up - her daughter is angry with her and Gwen wants Stella to forgive her son, Jeff.
Stella's friend, Felicia's brother has come to visit her. At the end of this book, she meets Felicia;s brother.
In Trusting the Plan, Stella and Kelsey are settling into their new life and many things are looking up. I love the small town and beach vibe. The characters are very realistic. In this well written book, they work to overcome their hurts and to embrace their new lives. Stella's mother in law makes a long visit that goes well until she pushes for Stella to call her ex-husband and to take him back when he is paroled. This causes a lot of tension and drama that kept me turning pages way too late into the wee hours. Ms. Golding brings everything to a most satisfying conclusion.
The last chapter is really confusing as it starts with the morning before her class. The last paragraph refers to sitting on a couch in the evening. What happened to the day? There is too much repetition of facts regarding her life in Atlanta, her divorce and starting new at the beach. I don't like books that are cliff hangers.
I enjoyed reading more about Stella and her teenaged daughter. After a scandal and divorce, they moved away. In this book it was interesting to see how their lives were changing, and twists which helped that change to come about. I have just bought the next book in this series and look forward to reading it.
I enjoyed this book better than the first book because it was edited much better! I love that Stella was able to rid herself of the creepy art dealer. The interactions between mother/daughter and mother/ex-mother in law are very realistic.
