As an educational compilation of quick, digestible exercises and lessons, it's not that bad. The book can be used as a quick way to understand general things about many different branches and sides of philosophy, and thus used as a jumping-off point should the reader want to learn more about any one thing -- but it is by no means comprehensive. There's good detail here, and good citations, but it's a little 'checkmark in the box' and dull in presentation, even if effort was made for this not to be the case. Still a useful book though.

A general, accessible, but at times detailed, introduction of key domains of philosophy: epistemology, morality and ethics, metaphysics, and logic. Never labouring the point, Picard's colourful and well-explained introduction is a perfect early read before delving into a set of more comprehensive works like: Russel's The History of Western Philosophy if you like a biographic-driven understanding of philosophy; or the primary texts themselves - the Greeks are easier to read than you may suspect.

Very nice book concept and indeed quite diverse in topics. The book makes ideas from some indigestible philosophical works accessible to the layman. However, some topics lack a broader connection. Other topics could have profited from more than the 2-page schematic applied to all topics. Finally, I personally would have appreciated a more exhaustive approach to philosophers included.

3/5 stars. Physical book. This is a pretty good primer. I didn’t have philosophy in the traditional sense in college, so I wanted to read about the basics. This was a $10 book from B&N and it delivered on that.

An interesting, non-linear look at philosophy that is broken up by topic, not by era. A good, relatively quick read.
