Dessa must find what she needs in a city filled with over a million infected souls.

Separated from her brother by vigilantes and military groups working under secret orders, Dessa and her friends search for her brother, and all of the children involved in Project Polus, to deliver the zombie-blocker meds in time.

But when Dessa discovers the meds will soon stop working, she and her friends must travel with a military escort into the heart of a city to find a new, more powerful treatment to keep the children from turning.

Unfortunately, more than a million souls infected with the ravenous Lyssa virus stand in their way.

I'm a voracious reader in many genres. I do sometimes judge a book by its cover art. Life is too short to spend time reading or reviewing bad books so you'll see my library, ratings, and reviews represent books I believe are worth sharing.

I live in Northern California with my husband, two dogs, a garden, lots of chickens, a viola, and a bicycle. My anthropology degree shapes my fiction. I write dark adventures (science fiction, fantasy, post-apocalyptic, coming-of-age) with a hint of romance. Follow me at JamieThornton.com

Really enjoying this series and finished this instalment in record time. If you can put it down without feeling guilty, then you're stronger than me.

This isn't just a journey through the darkness of an apocalyptic world. As the characters unfold it is also a journey through the darkness (or at least varying shades of gray) of the human condition. But then there are also stars in the darkness.

One thing that struck me this time (which in retrospect is also true of the earlier books) is the ability of the author to gently guide the reader through the events but to still surprise (and to hint at future surprises - or maybe I'm just seein' things in the shadows that aren't there, which is just as good).

Kobo edition (1230005355464) EPub 3, DRM-Free; 209 pages

More set-backs in the attempt to reach Sanctuary as the interim medical measures start to fail. Dessa has to travel back into Saramento with a small group pf soldiers to find new meds and a vault/safe for Pierce. Not only must her party avaoid the zombies - but the military has split into two groups: the uninfected and those with the combo 'cure'. The former seems determined to completly eradicate the viruses... which puts Dessa in the middle of two warring factions as well as the zombies...

These volums are best considered as one continuous narrative - as the book ends with an unresolved cliffhanger. Very readable, howeber!

After all that effort to find her brother, our heroine has been separated from him once again. And worse, now there is a change he will turn into a zombie. Time for our heroine and her team to venture out once again.

This is book three of a series. It does okay as a standalone, but you will be missing quite a bit of background. This book covers the basics early on, but only that.

This is a zombie apocalypse story with a young protagonist. The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed cast of characters. Besides our heroine, there is a solid cast of friends that support her in her quest and we get to know them all pretty well. The story moves at a fast pace, which is necessary for us to keep ahead of the zombies. Fair warning: it does end on something of a cliffhanger, definitely leaving you wanting the next book. Overall, it was another fun read with plenty of action and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Highly recommended.

I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.

Allow a day for Book 3 in this PG post-apocalyptic quest by six teenagers to save nine little kids from becoming zombies in California in October, which sort of works as a standalone but is better if read as part of the series. I had a review copy via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary review.

Not the greatest I don't like the audiobook voice but I'm invested in these characters so I'll keep reading slowly but I'll get it done
