Ever felt like you’re the only person in the world? The narrator of Alone has lived his whole life on a hidden beach with nothing but a disembodied voice to keep him company and teach him about the world. When a path out of the beach finally opens up, he will take his first steps out into a world that is unthinkably wider than he thought. Was his life a lie, or did it prepare him for the world as it really is? Who was the voice—and why has it suddenly stopped speaking to him?
What a book! Profound and weighty, yet packed with events, metaphors, and conversations that allow the reader to “hold” that weight, so to speak, turn it around in one’s hands to inspect for themselves. I definitely had some favorite “Somewheres” and wrote down beautifully written lines/passages to remember. There was so much I resonated with and was nodding my head along to. And what I didn’t resonate with, the author was able to paint such a vulnerable picture I was able to empathize/understand with those feelings/thoughts.
