A funny thing happens to Jonah when he winds up at a bar in a strange city, meeting with an ancient vampire. He’s trying to get answers about a person he’s desperately searching for—an old love who had been attacked and turned while Jonah was imprisoned. But instead, he finds himself alone with her in a dark alley with her. fangs in his neck. Seconds later, she’s dying on the ground at his feet, poisoned by his toxic blood, and her followers are chasing him all over the city. The vampire's venom burns much of his memory away, though they're tantalizingly close. His mind is a blank as far as most of his personal history is concerned, so questions like, what are you, have to remain unanswered. Jonah's stripped naked and brought before a handsome, powerful vampire lord whose blood instantly calls to him, while deliciously erotic images of the two of them flash through his mind. This is the man he’s been seeking, which is unfortunate on many levels, since he only wants Jonah dead. What do you do when the love of your life demands answers—and you don’t have any? Do you meekly accept your fate, or do you fight like hell to cleanse the bitter taste of life without him from your soul? A complicated web of lies threatens both Jonah’s and his vampire lover’s lives, and they must fight their way to happiness through a confusing maze of intrigue and deception. Can Jonah’s vampire lord put aside his bitterness so they can save themselves? Or do they both go down fighting?
I'm very torn on this book, while I really liked the personalities, chemistry and banter of our main characters, I felt this book was very jarring and that the plot didn't always add up. The themes where interesting but something about the book just seemed unorganized. Plus the hot, cold, hot, cold romance between our mains got to be a little annoying. All that being said I haven't enjoyed very many books recently and this one was a pretty enjoyable read so I threw in an extra star.
Dual pov. Shannon West usually writes enjoyable books. Sadly, she failed to deliver. I didn't like the story, the MCs, or the MCs' relationship. To be honest, there was nothing about this book that I did like. Such a pity!
Tantalizing, confusing, and enthralling, this story was so very entertaining.
Jonah was an enigma - while I don't get why Roman's soldiers and vampires smelled tantalizing to Jonah, it was clear that Roman and he were mates. Why else would Jonah stubbornly continue to put up with such a butthole? I also wasn't a fan of the demeaning and insulting venom that kept spewing from Roman. Seriously. Why would someone put himself in a vulnerable position, on purpose, with a clan of vampires who could easily have killed him, unless he felt very strong emotions and love for Roman? I kept thinking Roman must have really been thickheaded and bordering on moronic if he couldn't recognize what and who Jonah was to him. So, yes, I was pretty much hooked on this story from the beginning. The mystery of who Jonah was, exactly, and his significance to Roman kept me reading. Jonah's fairly irresistible, with plenty of bravado and machismo that he exuded as strongly as how beautiful he was physically. So funny, with the right amount of snark. Four stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I pushed myself to finish this. I was about to give up around 80%ish.
It was all over the place. It truly read like a short story. The MCs personalities were all over the place, the lore was all over the place, the world building was non-existent, and I cannot stress this enough: The MC’s personalities were all over the place. It was a constant hot and cold with them but their actual personalities changed constantly. Jonas went from dominant and serious to submissive and almost childish in the blink of an eye. Vampire!MC (totally forgot his name) went from submissive and tender to dominant and cold which didn’t fit his personality since we get a huge chunk of the book where he is none of those things. It makes the change feel forced and way too sudden.
The big showdown….. Messy™️. It was over in what felt like seconds. Also Jonas is a Mary-Sue.
Original and entertaining. Thrilling and action packed. A world full of vampires, witches, shifters and seraphs. their worlds become crossed and it's a fight for domination. Trust is hard to come by in this world. Caught in the crossfire are Roman and Jonah two lovers who were parted many years ago. Roman's heart was broken and he hasn't gotten over it. Roman doesn't have all the facts about Jonah's departure. Jonah was imprisoned and kept away from Roman. He is finally free and begins to make his way back to Roman. Jonah recognizes Roman as his mate and will do anything to have him back. There will be many obstacles and misunderstanding along the way. Can the two men overcome the obstacles and find their way back to each other? I loved this book. I highly recommend.
I absolutely love this new series. The characters of Jonah and Roman first encounter following a long separation, confusion and missing information will create suspense to the ninth level keeping you spelled bound with the intent to read this book through to the end. Great book by Shannon West and look forward to the next book in this series. I recommend this book and others penned by Shannon West.
I absolutely love this book! Jonah and Roman relationship is little complicated but they share a bond since their first encounter but they end up being separated, What follows is the story of both of them being enemies but there’s a lot of missing information and lack of communication because Roman doesn’t believe Jonah, but they still have feelings for each other. I like both characters and I can’t wait to know more!
This was my first book by Shannon West and I am hooked! This was such a great story about all types of paranormal creatures and seraphs. The plot sunk its teeth in and didn't let go until I got to the end. This was a unique take on vampires and fated mates. I can't wait to see where this series goes.
If I could I would give this book six stars. The world building is amazing and I can see that it’s just going to get better as the story continues. The characters are interesting especially the two main characters Jonah and Roman. There is obviously so much to their backstory that I can’t wait to read the next book.
Gah! 3 weeks to wait for the second book. I had no idea where this was going in the very best way. I couldn’t put it down but kept making myself take breaks because I didn’t want it to end.
This book started a little slow, but it soon got very interesting. I agree with one of the other reviewers--the book had most of my favorite things and kept my attention throughout the book. Recommend reading
Excellent storytelling with vivid descriptions of light and dark characters that steal your heart and emotions and leave you gasping in fright and fear when any danger surrounds them...which is often!!
This was a very well written book that I enjoyed reading. With witches, vampires, shifters and Seraphs, both light and dark, I loved finding out about how they came to be in our realm. Fascinating. Highly recommended
Like with all the authors’ books, it has a good basis, with good characters and an interesting plot. But it is always too superficial in every aspect and that ruins the books for me.
This book had me in suspense from beginning to end. It's a world full of witches, shifters, vampires, and seraphs and not knowing who your actual enemies are. From the start it grabs you and with each page it hooks its claws a little more deeply. By the end of the book the claws are deeply in and you're addicted to this new world of Shannon West. Roman and Jonah relationship also keeps you in suspense in the best possible way. The heat between them is scorching and intense. There's also the painful history that they need to overcome as the memories of their past returns to them. The secondary are also very interesting and add to the story, especially Marcus. I can't wait for the next book. I am so addicted...the suspense is killing me!!
