I am a quirky writer from the US who dabbles in dark, paranormal and contemporary romance. My stories aren't always typical, but contain a little something for everyone.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Note 2: Shift is the first book in the series. Howl is the sequel to Shift and follows the same couple. Please read in order.

Trigger warnings: Assault, alcoholism, death, murder, domestic abuse, bullying, violence, animal cruelty, sexual assault

This book got me all like whoooo wheee darling!

A lot of action was involved in the book - and I MEAN A LOT.

Chemistry was there, acknowledged but not really doing the you know what if you know what I mean. It was basically thrown on the backburner, because well the hero was mostly concerned about the heroine and how it would play in wolf politics.

Yes wolf politics. Besides humans are like almost wolves in politics anyway, so is there much difference - probably not.

Friendship - yes Sonia and Loren got along like all the best friends shown in movies - yes even though they didn't really know each other well - the common factor was Bill - things got along great. And I thoroughly was there for it.

Villains - Well there were plenty - but nah nothing could get in the way of the heroine who was definitely out to get answers. And the hero too. Kapow ya bad guys.

Overall, I loved loved loved this story and cannot wait for the next book.

Until the next read,

-TMR

Loren is a seemingly average girl who has had a shit life so far. After her mom died, she was bounced from an abusive uncle to an even worse dead beat father. Trying to scramble through life, barely doing so - she ends up in a fight with her school bully and the town sheriff ends up coming to help her. Bill. Officer McGoven.

Sometimes Loren has thoughts. That aren’t her own. Almost like there is another thing living inside of her talking to her and trying to save her. So when she’s being brutally beaten by her father one night in the woods, this voice helps her and the strange officer that always seems to know where she is, is suddenly a wolf. Wolf - then to a very naked man.
As the truth comes out about Loren’s history and ancestry, she still quite doesn’t understand or fully grasp the seriousness of everything that’s going on.
Bill has been outcasted from his pack. And the local alpha is not his biggest fan. So shit hits the fan when they realize that he ended up bonding/mating with this seemingly human.
This is not a romance by any means. But this book was so good, I could not put it down. When you’ve been raised as a human your entire life, to only realize that you’re an entirely different species, and now that you’ve been bitten by the local sheriff… So you have all these inner thoughts about him being yours. And you being his. And you don’t quite understand this new bond that you have with each other. He’s fighting it. You don’t understand. And now - people are after you both. Shifters.
I wouldn’t say it leaves off on a cliffhanger. Which I am thankful for. But the story is absolutely not finished. And I cannot wait to see more spice and romance between these two characters!

Lana has a calling for writing paranormal romances. Ever since I read the Ellie Gray Chronicles, I was hoping she would write another paranormal romance although Shift is a lot more softer. The plot of the story was well written, from the main characters to the world build. Usually Lana’s main male characters start off as villains but not the case with this book, our protagonist is a hero, a really decent guy, maybe a little stand off-ish, but I’m assuming we’ll find out what happened to Bill’s previous mate, as this book doesn’t yet go into detail about what happened just that she got killed. He is a rogue Lycan, and ordered to keep an eye out on Fred Connors who was exiled from the Black Mountain pack , oh by the way is also the father of our timid poor Loren. Our poor female mc, Loren you can feel her pain and why she is so skittish and closed off, she’s had a very hard life from enduring her mothers suicide, then living with an abusive uncle (who apparently did unimaginable things to her that we quite don’t have all the details yet, just that she was locked in a closet with chains on her wrists), then off to an very abusive father that she never met in her life before sent to live with and undergo his debasement of her.
I so enjoyed this book, and can’t wait to read the second book Howl.

Read an unfinished version on Wattpad and can't wait!! Lana Sky is already one of my all-time-favs, but the unfinished version was refreshing / dif from her usual fare - still dark but the male MC was not a villain. As far as worldbuilding, she didn't stray too far from conventional shapeshifter tropes, but found a truly original plotline, which is rare these days when fated mates etc are done to death. Easy preorder.

I am always excited when this author writes a new book because I’m such a fan of her writing and this started it out in such a way there was no way I was going to put it down! Loren and Bills chemistry was instant but there’s so much more involved in this story and now I’m on pins and needles for the next book. I adored these two but Bill is still a mystery to me and poor Loren has endured so much you can’t help but feel for her

When I read the sample before purchasing I thought I was really going to love this book but I ended up only liking it okay. Things don't really stay moving or highly engaging, though I do like the plot ideas and the potential I can see in the story, as simple as they are. Overall it has too much of a YA feel to it for my current tastes, with a super innocent heroine and on top of that, a lot of filler. I'll probably read the next book, but I am not in a hurry to do so, and will wait to see if the author enrolls it in KU.

This author has been one of my favorite discoveries after coming back to reading for fun rather than because it was required (Literature Degree). There is just something about the way that this author crafts a story. She always creates multifaceted characters and sets a mood when she pens a story that oftentimes, feels like I am actually a part of the world that is the book. I love that she dabbles in different subtropes. That made me excited to dive into this book because shifter romance is not something that I would have pictured this author to write.

This book is different than her others, and in more than just obvious of that being because it was about Shifters. It took me a little bit to understand what was going on in the story. However, that made me that much more invested because I liked the anticipation of figuring out what exactly was going on. There was a dangerous undertone, almost like a foreboding of what was to come, and that enhanced the story as well. It wasn't overt, but more like a feeling that let you know that this was not a sugar and spice sweet read.

I liked how the story progressed and how this introduced me to a whole new world. I am very excited to see where this author intends to take me in the next book. There are a lot of secrets at play here which makes me really excited for the next part of the story. Once the pieces started falling into place, I really came to like Loren and Bill. Their age gap didn't come across as taboo as I anticipated when I first read the blurb.

Slow burn! A terrific start to a new series with sexy wolf shifters. Heroine Loren is a traumatized young woman with no clue what she is or what her life could be. Until the hot cop Bill steps in to save her. Talk about intense burn as he tries to deny his feelings of alpha dominance. Loren seems ready for the challenge even if she doesn’t have a clue what she’s in for. I loved it when her mind, body and soul screamed “Mine” when Bill was near. Bill is just too dreamy as the alpha outside the pack. Major drama between him and pack leader Lukka. There’s a dark, gloomy setting for the story with lots of drizzle, rain and clouds. Loren was fabulous when she found her inner self and met the challenges to survive. Of course, the sexy cop is always right there to demand her obedience. The romance was a little too slow for me but I loved this start to a new series. Hot shifters, a pack feud and a sexy romance makes this a thrilling read. Loved it and I can’t wait for more!

I'm not usually a big fan of shifter books, but this
book definitely changed my mind. Yes, it's about
Lycans but the author kind puts it in the background.
It centers more on Loren and her life. Who she's been and
what's shaped her, but not who she's becoming. As she
learns more about herself and what Bill is to her, she
slowly starts to evolve. She starts off as a bit shy, and an
introvert, but slowly she's becoming stronger.
Then there's Bill, a guy who happens to be a very
strong Lycan, Loren's mate, and an officer.
This is definitely slow burn, mostly because Loren is
young'ish and Bill isn't(he has boundaries). I loved the
world building and the pacing. It's dark, twisted, and
leaves you at the edge of your seat. Can't wait to read the
next book "Howl".

This is a great paranormal read! It’s well written and the storyline pulls you in from the get go as we meet Loren our troubled teen and Bill the police officer with a secret. Their chemistry is off the charts, the storyline exciting and intriguing and the characters are extremely likeable. There’s danger, there’s drama, there’s secrets and there’s suspense and I have to say I am totally hooked on this slow burn romance and am very excited for the next book!

This is the first shifter series I believe that this author has written. I have always loved this author’s writing style and the way she portrays her characters individually is fantastic.

The only negative about this book is that it is a real slow burn; unlike all her other books that are steamy all the way through. With that being said, I still could not wait to turn each page. That is just how wonderful her writing style is.

Loren’s character is a shy eighteen year old living in hell who is also something she does not know she is. While Officer Bill McGoven is the link she is missing to finding her true self; however, the only problem is, he does not want her and now to save her she is his mate.

There is danger for Loren at every turn and while Bill tries to give her away to the Black Mountain Pack, it will put her life in even more danger. Hmm Lycans galore!

This book definitely left me wanting more and I can’t wait for see what will happen next.

Congratulations again Lana Sky for something wonderfully different!

I just couldn't get over the age and life stage difference between the two lead characters. The idea of Luca with a high school student is so cringe. And I realize there's a small amount of backstory for it, but the way he acts towards her initially is pretty unacceptable and she seems very stockholm-ish. I didn't find the characters believable or identifiable so I won't continue the series. I listen to this on Audible and had some issues with the way they split up the male female roles. I enjoy dual narrators but not the way it was handled in this book.

@LanaSky 's work has always been amazing but another thing is that there's always a dark vibe in her work and this book is no exception.

✓ Dark Paranormal romance
✓ Age Gap relationship
✓ Mentions of sexual abuse & depictions of violence

This isn't a cute werewolf shifter romance; the aura in the book and while reading is something dark, calm but frightening and that's what kept me hooked enough to read it in one go.

Written in third person, the POVs of many characters is shown. Loren has a had a shitty life since her mother died, from an uncle who chained her to an unknown father who beats her, school is the only place she excels, but there too she doesn't speak unnecessarily. When an event sparks her anger, she comes more into focus to Bill McGoven, a police officer. As the story continues, some secrets are revealed while some create more confusion. Bill and Loren have chemistry and a pull but while Loren is still not fully informed about everything, Bill has other reasons to resist.

Overall, the silent but stormy vibe kept me very curious and though there are some theories in my head after the last chapter, I'm super excited to see what happens next, how the relationship progresses, how Micah becomes like a family member (I hope he does), how Naomi changes for good (maybe) and how Loren changes and starts being more talkative, expressive and stronger, if not physically, then mentally.

PS: Bill's the grumpy older guy while Loren is the innocent skittish girl. One of the best tropes!!

Great start to a new series!

This is a suspenseful and well written shifter romance between Loren Connors, a young woman with a LOT of problems and a local police officer, the mysterious Bill McGovern, who has a habit of always being on hand when she is in a crisis. Events propel Loren into Bill’s world, little knowing what impact it will have on her life.

Neither are what they seem; Bill is not just a regular police officer and Loren is not only hiding a whole lot of hurt but is totally unaware of events past and present that will change her life forever… I soon found myself invested in the push and pull of the couple’s slow burn relationship and the high stakes of the overarching plot.

Bill is a reluctant and somewhat 'grumpy' hero. Circumstances bind him to Loren and I found myself questioning some of his decisions, all of which become clearer as we learn more about him and his world. He is so very conflicted when it comes to how to react to Loren and what best to do to help her. Despite all that Loren has been through, by the end of the book, she is starts to tap into her inner strength, which I enjoyed. It is this strength, that calls to Bill and I cannot wait to see how their relationship develops in the next instalment.

Despite the read containing some violence and scenes of and reference to past abuse, I did not find the read as dark as other books written by the author. The world building is excellent and the manner in which new characters are introduced set the scene well for subsequent instalments. The novel is a fantastic start to a  new series and will appeal to lovers of paranormal romance, especially those who enjoy shifters.

Please note, a copy of this book was given to me by the author and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Not like other L. Sky books

As a fan of the author's dark contemporary works, I was looking forward to seeing how she would do in this foray into all things paranormal and growly. Switching her alpha antiheros in crisp shirts and fancy suits for the Alphas of a different type with their packs and shedding problems, L. Sky takes the reader to a world where lycans live hidden from human knowledge living everyday lives. Some human completely unaware they carry a dormant lycan within them.

She thought she was nothing special. The fists, slaps, name calling, and other abuses sure made make sure to remind her of that. But what if she were more? He's a rogue tasked worth with keeping an eye on other rogues. What he doesn't expect is the she-pup with no idea of what she is? What he doesn't wanted? The responsibility of protecting her another she-wolf that could get taken from him.

Pick in an impossible situation, instincts ride then both hard as they give in. Now, consequences must be dealt with but neither of them ignore the growing bond that draws them together. Can they continue to deny the passion and the possible future before them? It will it all just be chaos of clashing packs?

This story is an unusual read for me for a L.Sky book in that there is such a slow-burn. The FMC is 18yo and in high school. There are those groping, hot and heavy scenes, but they do little else. About the darkest thing in this book I could think of was the continued abuse suffered from Fred Connors to FMC. It was almost like a lite-dark romance for the young adults to let them do their toes in the water of the genre. IDK, just my thoughts. It really didn't feel like any of the other books by the author. It was quite a parodox.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "SHIFT". I loved this story from the beginning so much intrigue, mystery, suspense, angst, emotional turmoil, abuse, violence, danger, secrets, lies, twists that make for a very addicting story Lana Sky is such a creative writer knows how to pull her readers in & not let go.
Loren Connors 18yrs was taken from her abusive Uncle only to be place with Fred Connors her abusive father who didn't want her he's a mobster she goes to an old barn behind his property where she spends time with Bunny an old Palomino with sway back, Esther the gentle Mare & Xavier a Mustang that seems valuable but hes skittish she like to feed them it her quiet safe place but doesn't know its on Officer Bill McGovens property her father forbids her to go there.
Loren goes to New Walsh Academy she's a straight A student keeps up herself but Naomi Tanner has had it in for her since she arrived there on her way to school she's bullied by her until she snaps its Officer Bill McGoven that stops the fight & takes care of Loren.
Loren feels this weird pull to Bill his voice commands she obey him but she doesn't understand why he knows who & what she is her father Fred knows also but hadn't told her anything there's thus bobd between Loren & Bill.
I definitely recommend up get this very dark twisted paranormal story you can't put down until finished secrets get revealed more confusion as well Loren & Bill become closer but until she's fully informed he had his reasons but won't act on it until she does the next book "HOWL" can't come soon enough to get more answers & see what happens next. LOVED LOVED IT A MUST HAVE BOOK!!!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review

This book was AMAZING, and it’s a fantastic start, to a wonderful new series by Lana Sky!! I absolutely loved the storyline and characters ♥️ I couldn’t put this book down!! I DEFINITELY can’t wait for Book 2, Howl, to come out 🤗 I really loved the main characters Bill and Loren 😍 Loren is a fantastic FMC!! Lana really wrote her character brilliantly!! In my opinion, so realistic for a survivor of abuse!! I loved Loren’s journey and growth through this story ♥️
18 year old Loren has never known real love from anybody. She craves it so much!! She’s been abused by every family member shes come into contact with, her mother’s gone, so she is stuck with her alcoholic abusive father. He beats her regularly and she is very shy and timid due to this. Her only solice are the horses that are on a farm, that Loren thinks is abandoned. After being bullied by a group of girls, on her way to school, a police officer named Bill shows up. Her clothes are a mess, and she can’t go home, so Bill takes her to his house to clean up. Loren discovers that he lives on the farm, and that it’s actually located behind her house.
One night, things go too far with her father, and Loren runs to Bill’s house for help. This opens a whole new door for Loren, to a world shes never known, and she discovers everything she has ever known about herself has been a lie…..
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK 🖤💙

Warning: There may be some trigger points in here for some people. There is a lot of angst and dumb reactions made with little thought since Loren the main character is a teenager. But having said that, she has been abused since her mother died. She was in a foster home with Uncle Bart and then sent to an abusive father who seems to hate her. Loren copes by trying to be a turtle and hide from the pain and tormentors. She has issues.

Officer McGovern is her savior, but can she trust him? Only one way to find out, read the book! I enjoyed the book because the characters were interesting. Although it dragged a little bit due to Bill not disclosing what she was or how everything worked to her soon enough in my opinion. The end has a bit of a cliffhanger, which I am not fond of, and she still doesn't know how a pack works or her history, but all in all, it is a good story and I would recommend it.

Loren Conners has a horrible home life. She's eighteen, introverted and can't seem to stand up for herself. Even against the bullies. Her safe haven is a stable with three beautiful horses she's befriended and named. Little does she know that this farm belongs to Bill McGovern. Bill is a police officer that her father abhors. He doesn't want Bill anywhere near his home or the daughter he treats so horribly. I don't do spoilers, so I don't want to say more. This is one of the best paranormal romance books I have read. There are twists and turns, action, intrigue and lots of secrets desperately needing answers. The chemistry between Bill and Loren is steamy almost boiling over. But she is confused as to why he even wants to help her. Why is she so special?
I absolutely loved this book. It was incredible and I cannot wait for the next installment.
Remember, if you want to read a book that you can't put down, you have to pick it up first.

I love Lana Sky books but I have never read a paranormal story from her. This story had me hooked from the very start. I loved learning about Loren and Bill's relationship and issues that they both faced. Bill is a rogue wolf shifter and ends up rescuing and eventually bonding Loren, who has no idea that she is a wolf too. Loren can't understand her growing attraction to Bill and he is trying really hard to resist his attraction to her as well. He tries to protect her to the best of his abilities even though she seems to be constantly in danger around him. The read had me hooked from the very beginning and I did not want to put it down. It wan't has dark and steamy as previous stories I've read from Lana Sky but hopefully that will come in the future. Can't wait to catch the next story to find out what happens to these two characters. I received a review copy of this story and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

Shift is the first book in the Black Mountain Pack Series by Lana Sky. as a fan of Lana’s writing I was very excited to read this book and I have to say I absolutely loved it, by the end of the first chapter I was immediately hooked in and throughout the whole book I felt like I was on the edge of my seat.
The main characters here felt very real, Lana was able to bring them to life and make them feel approachable from the start, i loved Loren’s charchter here, she felt very real, her shyness and awkwardness, her kindness, she felt relatable.
The chemistry between Loren and Bill was written so so well and the way their dynamic shifts thought the story was done perfectly.
Lana managed to create this new dark and intriguing universe and elavate it with these charhcters and all the twists and turns throughout, I cant wait to find out what happens next.

I have read quite a few books by this author (and loved them all) but only a couple have been in the paranormal genre. After reading, I can add this to the list of books I love by this author. It had everything you expect from the paranormal world - Alphas, secrets, suspense, danger, and undeniable bonds. Loren and McGoven (Bill) had sizzling chemistry. Both of their backgrounds made them hesitant to act on that chemistry though, but it did start to pick up as the story went on. I'm excited to see them explore their connection more. I really enjoyed this story and had a hard time putting it down. The book does end in a cliffhanger leaving the reader with some questions. I have some suspicions on a few things and am looking forward to see if those suspicions are correct.

Ooh this book was amazing! I am a huge huge fan of Lana and this is a change up from what she normally writes. What is not to love about paranormal romance. Loren has a really bad way in life and is just trying to make it by. Then she can feel changes that she can’t explain. Bill is a police officer and a fellow Lycan who saves Loren. But what he wasn’t fully expecting was what was to follow after making that decision. I am so intrigued with this story, I can’t wait to find out who Loren’s real father is and where she is from and what her and Bill decide to do. Let’s face it he would make a super HOT alpha! I can’t wait until Howl comes out. This book was amazing Lana, you never disappoint!

Paranormal books aren't usually my go to books unless they are REALLY good or are Twilight. This book, is one of those REALLY good ones!! I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down from the moment I started reading it! The beginning hooks you in with sympathy for Loren and her current situation. It also has you wondering about somethings she's thinking and the changes in her personality that are happening. From there I just got more sucked in as Bill was introduced. He is definitely the grumpy Alpha male we all love. And talk about a slow burn!! The anticipation of if anything is going to happen had me dying for Bill and Loren to even touch. I definitely cannot wait for the next book to come out so we can see what happens with the pack and Loren and Bill!

This is book one of The Black Mountain Pack series. I am not a huge paranormal romance fan but I am reading and growing my other reading interests with this author, I took a chance. Surprise, surprise - I am hooked. Loren and Bill's story is so damn layered that you have no choice but to shut the world out and enjoy each and every word. This story starts quickly and continued to build quickly. There are quite a few characters introduced but you will pickup on the important ones. Lastly, you are left at a turning point of the story where you are on the main path and there are three splits in the road. Who decides which road to take? I's it an individual or joint decision? I am so looking forward to finding out in Howl. Enjoy!

Loren is a seemingly normal girl who’s had a rotten hand in life. She can’t seem to catch a break. This book deals with a few triggers so plz note the authors warning.
After a particularly nasty bully scenario, We are introduced Bill McGoven - the local police.
From here on out these two keep crossing paths. Bill has a hidden secret and realizes Loren isn’t the normal girl she thinks she is.
My only gripe with this book was I wanted the connection between our characters to happen sooner. There’s a lot of back story, and these toe come so close but just never quite get there. It was the one aspect that needed more fleshing out IMO.
I’d still look forward to reading the next book as I think this is just the icing on a very delicious cupcake.

“Be empty. Make your face a mask—that’s it. Never let them in. Never let them see.”

Loren Conners is a troubled girl with some grueling secrets and struggling to survive another day. When the mysterious police officer, Bill McGoven, comes to her rescue after an unfortunate encounter, Loren is pulled into a world she never imagined was real.

Having committed the ultimate crime, Bill must now face the consequences of his actions. Determined to not repeat the mistakes of the past, a choice will be made.

Shift is a dark paranormal romance by Lana Sky. I am once again mind-blown by Lana’s nitty gritty writing style, the mystery, the angst! I can’t wait for Howl, book 2 of the Black Mountain Pack series.

I really enjoyed this book. The story gets off to an extremely intriguing start and I found myself quite easily caught up in this new paranormal romance. Loren and Bill were very, very likable and I thought that the connection and chemistry between them was evident. These simmer along nicely in a slow burning fashion, which I felt fit with the story well. As a whole, this book just has a very juicy feel to it. The drama, the emotions, the secrets, the twists, the danger, and the impending explosion of heat have me hooked and craving more. I can't wait for book two! I am electing to post a forthright review.

Ok, let me start off by saying that I love new adult paranormal romances and combine that with Lana Sky's amazing writing makes me ONE HAPPY CAMPER! This is a little different than the other romances I have read by this author, but that does not take away from just how awesome this book is. The paranormal aspects are subtle through the beginning of the book but come out with a BANG. This is a slow burn that builds anticipation throughout the entire story and catches your attention like crazy. I cannot FREAKING wait to see what is going to happen next and how things are going to play out for Loren and Bill. I am utterly captivated!
