An arranged marriage. A kidnapped general. A plot to murder. Princess Fiadonessa is at the center of them all. To save her people, she's forced to accept a marriage to Prince Fynnigan, heir to the rival kingdom of Guinyx. When the king of Guinyx's beloved general is kidnapped, Fia snatches her opportunity for freedom and strikes a the general's safe return for an annulment. Her gift of hearing whispers in the wind should make the task easy, but she soon discovers there's more to the kidnapping than meets the eye. The whispers warn the Bringer of Death, Mikaiel, is after her. Everything about him is lethal, but what scares Fia most of all isn't losing her life- it's losing her heart. Please be aware that this book features mature content not meant for readers under the age of eighteen due to themes of murder, death, and a bit of heat.
“You’re playing a dangerous game, Princess,” he said softly, lightly tapping his blade to her cheek. “I hope you know what you’re doing.”
Her hands pulled his head close, pressing their foreheads together. She grazed his ear with her lips and rasped, “I’m winning.”
A Whisper in the Night was a delightful treat and the first in a promising NA fantasy romance series.
I first want to thank the authors for gifting me and eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was throughly entertained and got hooked from the very first chapter.
What to expect?
— Arranged Political Marriage — Enemies-to-Lovers — Assassins — Morally grey characters — Magic in different forms — Royal drama — Action — Travelling — Crumbs of spice — Betrayals — Secret identity — Diversity
The story is narrated through five main POVs:
• Princess Fiadonessa "Fia" of Arastacia • Prince Fynnigan "Fyn" of Guinyx • Juvien • General Zascha and Fyn's half-sister • Mikaiel, the devious assassin and bringer of death
What really stood out to me in this book were the characters. They had distinguished personalities and it's always fun to experience the story through different characters who are led by different morals and ambitions. Each with their own backstory that shaped them to be who they are.
Since this is the first book in a series, it did set the foundation for the characters in their journeys. I expected more romance so I did feel a tad disappointed that I did not get much because everytime Mikaiel and Fia were sharing a scene I was dying for me—but that's also a good sign because I am invested in the future development of the romance(s) that I am just craving more.
I went in expecting to follow a Princess who is stuck in an arranged marriage and an assassin sent to kill her but eventually falls for her so I was expecting a forbidden romance, but I did get a lot more thanks to the other characters and to be fair that's what the synopsis promised: a Princess striking a bargain to go on a rescue mission and save a kidnapped general in exchange for an annulment—and a devious assassin gets in the way.
The book did not only focus on the romance but also on companionship and budding friendships.
Have you ever considered maybe you’d have more friends if you stopped murdering everyone?”
He tipped his head to one side, pretending to give it some serious thought. “You know, I can’t say that I have.”
I have to say Mikaiel was the star of the book for me. He is such a menace and a charming devil! I am officially a simp.
I'm looking forward to the sequel especially with how the book ended. I'm expecting more political turmoil, more betrayals, and more SPICE. I'm also excited to see how the events of the next book will shape the characters.

Wow !!! JUST WOW !!! This book was absolutely amazing !!! From the very first pages I felt completely enraptured by the plot, the story and these great characters that right now I love so much !!! A new adult fantasy romance book, the first in a series (I truly hope for it to be so) where magic, power, politics and relationships have to find a way to coexist even in the darkest times!! Secrets, deception, intrigues and whispers are everything Fia has ever had to deal with in her life. She is such a strong character, a strong woman, and the journey she goes through in this book is impressive to say the least. But when it comes to great women in this novel, I have to admit that my favourite is probably Zasha. A general but also so much more. The things she has done and she is willing to do … she is and will be a huge inspiration!!! They both had to face the eternal fight between duty and choice … alongside some really great male characters!!!! Mikaiel and Fynn are so great to read about and alternating between the darkness of one and the constant doubting of the other was a very refreshing experience. But if I have to talk about a very light character, one that was good no matter what … Juvien is absolutely my favourite !!!! I very much believe that we have still to expect great things from him … I’m just very short in which capacity. Of course I had to fall for the morally grey character (who’s very good during spicy times!!!!)… but you’ll have to read the book to understand whom I am referring to. Because truth is … there is no just one morally grey character in here … and I am so glad !!!! I’m so grateful I had the chance to read this book !!!! I cannot wait for this to be out !!!
“Forward. Because we can’t change the past Fynn. We don’t know the future, but what I do know is that if you do nothing, you’ll always be where you are now”
Let me just start out with the Bringer of Death is right up my alley. Tall, blonde,
. . . psychotic.
I am so honored to have received an ARC from Tina and Sophie.
This is a book about a woman coming into her power and taking control of her own destiny. Fia is no damsel and no one comes to her rescue. I love books where the FMC saves herself and that is exactly what you will find in Fia.
I really loved the way you get to see different characters POV of the same event, and how the four storylines are intricately woven together. The lore captured my attention, and can I just say I love the vampire-esque L'Nox. I'm a sucker for anything vampire.
This is one of the biggest disappointments of the year for me. I had this book on my radar for months, only for it to be a mediocre story with reaaaaally slow pace and annoying characters.
My main issue was that I couldn't connect with a single character out of the 5 POVs. Fia was constantly getting on my nerves with her whining and refusal to communicate, Fynn might be promising, but he has a single brain cell and he doesn't like to use it, Mikhaiel is.. uhm.. how do I say it nicely, the most cliché of the morally grey love interests. He's bland and unlikable with no chemistry with Fia. Zacha was the only one I kiiiind of cared about, but she was also an overkill. And lastly, Juvien, who doesn't seem to add much to the story other than being Zacha's trophy side piece. He's the cookie-points-boyfriend.
It's just.. trying to hard with the tropes and lacks a lot in worldbuilding.
I might come back to this, when I have more patience for a Princess who has no spine, a love triangle, and irritating guys.
That was... a wild, fast-paced ride packed with actions and amazing characters!
I don't think we get more than a moment to breathe before getting thrown into next event, and I love it. Also love the multiple POVs to catch and glimpse of how each character thinks (and those who know me, I LOVE multiple POVs). Pacing: FAST (just how I love it). The plot is nice, solid, and easy to follow. Maybe a little holes somewhere in between but they are not really noticeable/hindering the story so I would say it was pretty neat!
I love all the characters! Fia is a strong and dependable lead, and I love how she strive to get what she wants and how amazing she is with her big heart and great power. Also how brutally honest she is haha. Also love Nika, Zascha and Juvien (my adorable couple!), Fyn (he is annoying but tbh he is growing on me), and of course my very fav Mikaiel (for his cheery personality despite his dark title HAHA and he came one package with a cat)!
Overall, it was a strong first book of a series and I'm looking forward the next book!
I will usually give a book until 50% before I decide not to finish. Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. I stopped reading around the 60% mark. While the premise of this book was very intriguing I just couldn't get into it. I received an ARC of this book and was so excited about it. When I saw arranged marriage and kidnapping in the description I was 100% on board. However, it was the male characters in this book that really turned me off to it.
Both Prince Fynnigan and Mikaiel just didn't do it for me. Fynn was whiny and too clueless and Mikaiel was off-putting and not at all an MMC that I found myself fawning or fanning myself over. The relationship between him and Fia was very... inorganic. The dialogue made me feel odd and it seemed out of place. I wish I could explain this better but while I was reading I felt no connection at all between the characters or the characters and myself. I think part of the reason was the multiple POV. I felt like right as I got interested in one POV it abruptly went to the next.
Some positives. I love most the female characters. There is a very big nod to female empowerment and females taking on challenges head-on and making choices for themselves. Fia struggles with being forced to marry Fynn and because of that takes on a very dangerous mission. Zascha was also a great character and one that went outside the mold. Both Fia and Zascha are very strong females within the story.
By the time I decided to stop reading there had been no spice but lots of teasing between Mikaiel and Fia. I would say this is def a slow burn and perhaps maybe a spicy scene later on. There is also the potential for a love triangle.
I think this book is for those who love enemies to lovers, slow burns, love triangles, and very strong FMCs.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶 .5
I want to thank Tina for the ARC copy of this book! Below is my honest review and thoughts.
Summary
Princess Fia or Fiadonessa is forced to marry a prince of a rival neighboring kingdom Guinyx. Disaster strikes and the General of Guinyx is kidnapped! Fia volunteers to rescue the general since she has the power of hearing the whispers. In exchange for helping find the general she wants an annulment. While traversing the realm to find the lost general she learns that the Bringer of Death hunts her.

My Thoughts
I wasn’t 100% what to expect with this book but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The story starts of with Fia being married immediately which is not a typical starting point so I enjoyed that variation from traditional fantasy novels. I would classify this as NA book as there are some spicy scenes not over the top but more than a YA book.
This is a true enemies to lover trope which I am always a sucker for! While Fia is being hunted by the Bringer of Death aka Mikaiel, they share very tense and passionate moments. What I loved is that Fia didn’t fall for him straight away she definitely moves quick in some ways but holds her own which I appreciated.
Now this novel for a first in a series has A LOT of main characters. You have Fia, her husband Fynn, Mikaiel, FIa’s handmaiden, Zascha and a few others. I will say that was more of a negative because I didn’t get time to bond with the characters due to split time.
Overall a good read with great premise but a few things that could be improved on.
What I Loved
• The strong female empowerment – Fia requesting an annulment and Zascha being a badass general • The spin on vampires here where they take the life force of the soul not blood • The plot twist of Fia’s parentage and her fathers betrayal! • REPRESENTATION – as a POC I loved seeing a more diverse cast of characters with different ethnic and sexual preference backgrounds
What I didn’t Like
• Too many POV’s – I love a split story but I believe that would have made sense in a book 2 or at least limit the POV’s • Flynn’s character was hard to root for he was very whiny with ZERO abilities to really do anything for himself • Too fast paced through the final reveal – Fia losing it and wanting to kill her dad and his betrayal could have had more depth • Juvien and Zashca had so much chemistry for the beginning of the story and I feel the way it died off didn’t make a ton of sense
“ While we may not know one another, let us be voyagers on an adventure into the unknown. Lost together, but never alone. “
Everything starts with an arranged wedding and a kidnapping, I’ll be honest I never expected this book to be as good as it was. We have multiple POVs, an amazing world building, complex characters and a mind blowing plot.
Fia is strong, beautiful and wants more in life than what’s given her. Fin is a playboy who’s eager to show everyone, but especially himself, that he’s more than his public image. Zacha is general to her father’s armies and she realizes that there’s also strength in loving someone else. Juvien is fighting to get back to the person who he loves the most and Mikaiel is an assassin who starts living after centuries of being alive.
“To really hate someone, you had to be able to love them under different circumstances.”
This book isn’t just about the plot, there are women helping women, there’s an amazing and steamy enemies to lovers romance, there’s friendship and betrayal. If you’re looking for your next fantasy read this is it !
This book took me a moment before I was hooked. But once I was, this world is full of royals, magic, politics all that aren’t what they seem. This book was full of twists. I absolutely love the characters and I can’t wait to see where they go when the series continues. Very highly recommend for magic lovers.
So I could not contain my excitement when I was given an eARC of this book. I started it as soon as it hit my inbox and unfortunately I just couldn't get into the story. For context, I usually try to read book until around the 50% mark before I don't continue but this one I just couldn't force myself to continua and ultimately DNF at 30%.
The book is narrated through 5 POVS: Princess Fia (Fiadonessa), Prince Fyn (Fynnigan), Juvien, Zascha & Mikaiel.
Out of all the characters, Zascha & Mikaeil were my favorite ones. Zascha is a badass unapologetic General who is dealing with past trauma & Mikaiel is our resident unhinged bad boy. Prince Fyn the whiny one with sad puppy eyes, Juvien to judge-y & Princes Fia is way too "I'm willing to sacrifice everything for my Kingdom" but then keeps complaining about her sacrifice (getting married).
While the story does have the potential to be great, to me it was just lacking something. I don’t know how to properly explain that even though it’s written as fast paced, it also felt quite slow?
This book is tough. It took a very long time for me to be interested in the story, and even near the end there were still chapters I found myself skimming through instead of actually reading. There was so much unnecessary fluff that made otherwise intriguing plotlines unbearably boring, tons of spelling mistakes, missing words, broken paragraph breaks, and missing spaces that made the whole book feel like it somehow didn’t have an editor, not to mention some of the worst dialogue I have ever read.
All that being said, I did find myself enjoying parts of the book. The premise is interesting and I liked the paths the characters took. The book also includes some of my favorite tropes. Mikaiel was easily my favorite POV to read and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t keep reading just for him and his cat, Jessamine.
Overall, I think this story had a lot of potential. I really can’t help the feeling that with some cut chapters and plotlines here and there (this does NOT need to be a series) and someone to fix all of the formatting mistakes, this could have been a 5 star book. At the end of the day, I can’t give it more than 3 stars (1 of which is for Jessamine).
Action, romance, politics, magic, royals... this one had everything.
I was fortunate enough to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of A Whisper in the Night, and I am so glad I did! This action-packed fantasy was succinct, beautifully written, and full of twists and turns that I didn't anticipate. The depth of the story was surprising to me - I did not expect the multi-faceted story that this book contains.
The female characters are strong and admirable in their own right - they don't need saving. We love a strong, independent woman.
The representation in this book was fantastic - POC characters, LGBTQ+ representation, and Hispanic representation (I love a book with references to the spanish language). Not to mention the monsters we see in this book - I mean, giant sea pigs with sharp, stabby tails??? It was awesome.
The romance is a slow-burn, but I enjoyed the build up. And there's a cat in this story. Let me repeat, there is a CAT!
I rated four stars rather than five for the following personal reasons: - I am not a huge fan of third person and many POVs - the book was very fast-paced, and I missed a robust world-building
Besides my own personal preferences, the book was incredibly well-written and was able to get a lot of information to the reader quickly. It was also thoroughly entertaining and I loved the world it is set in. Great book, happy reader!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and recommend you give it a read!
A brand new fantasy with a different magical system, the singularity of characters and the world building!
Princess Fiadonessa of Arastacia is getting married to Prince Fynnigan of neighbouring Guinyx to save her people from the dreaded L’Nox. Fynn is marrying Fia to save his current lifestyle. When his sister Zascha, General of Guinyx gets kidnapped on the day of the nuptials, a group of unlikely people are thrown into each other’s company. A grouping that brings out the best, the worst and the absolute evil in some!
I took my time with this one because I really wanted to understand everything that was happening! With such a different magical system and characters that were totally new, I think the authors managed to create characters that make you want to dig deeper and know more about what makes them tick. My favourite has to be Zascha!!! What a strong, stunning female lead and I’m sure that with all the revelations happening at the end, we will see a lot more of her in the future!!
If you like your fantasy series to start slower and get to the point that you have to have the next book, this one is for you!! The story is multiple POV and it’s fairly easy to follow. I’m super thankful to the authors for sending the ARC my way… what a great beginning!! Can’t wait to see where this goes!
It has arranged marriage trope, an assassin, a very powerful female general and the male characters totally relying on the women to save their lives. I live for these things in fantasy!
This was highly addictive. The world building was amazing. The characters were quite interesting. There wasn't a single dull moment in this.
My favorite were Zascha and Juvien Their chemistry and the way they worked in sync was my favorite part. I just wish we got something more for them.
It also has a very twisted, evil assassin falling in love with his target. I wasn't the biggest fan of these turn of events but it was still kind of hot so who cares.
One of the most important thing, which also is a major reason why this book worked for me, was because it has multiple pov. This book follows five povs and I feel that keeps the plot interesting. Being in 5 different headspace is the reason this didn't had a dull moment. I love multiple povs 😬
I am so late to the party posting this ARC review, and I have absolutely no excuse for it. Enjoy anyway! This books follows Fia, a princess married off in a political alliance who yearns to prove herself a leader in her own right. When a high-ranking general in her new husband's court is kidnapped at their wedding, Fia negotiates an annulment in exchange for finding the missing general. But there's more than one game in play, and Fia soon finds that friends and enemies are harder to tell apart than you might think. The world building in this debut novel is delightful. I felt right at home stepping into a fantasy coming-of-age story and the characters all had something great to bring to the table. It was tropey in the best way, and the ENDING?? I was completely in it. The magic and the prophecy and everything was so yummy, I couldn't even.. Here I am, almost three months later, still thinking about some of the details in this book. I can't wait for the sequel.
Ever since I saw this book on TikTok I knew I had to get my hands on it. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and it is definitely one to add to your TBR!
I will admit, it took me a while to get into this book simply due to the constant shift of POV. It would often feel like something big or dramatic would be happening in the POV, then suddenly we switch to another POV of someone who was not there, and I felt very disconnected in those moments. Once I got into it more and understood the rhythm of the switches, it was much easier to get into. There were also a few grammatical errors that just caught my eye a ton. Both of these reason led me to giving this book 4/5 stars.
The overall story was super interesting and kept me guessing on where it was going to lead! The world building wasn’t quite where I was hoping it would be, but I still found myself easily getting lost in the pages of this story. The ending…does this mean we get a second book?! I sure hope so!
Princess Fia worried me for a bit on if she would grow into a stronger character or not, and Tina did not disappoint! I can’t wait to see where Fia’s story goes next!
Mikaiel…❤️🗡
Zascha 💪🏼 I am so excited to learn more about her origins and watch her grow more as a character!
Juvien was alright for me, but I absolutely loved how he pushed our favorite general out of her comfort zone and wasn’t afraid to give it to her straight when she needed it.
Fynn…oh Fynn. He was a hard character for me to like. I can’t put my finger on precisely why I didn’t like him as much as I wish I did, but I just don’t. I hope I get to see more personal growth from him, he just didn’t do it for me in this read. Maybe in a reread or in the next book I’ll like him more.
If you love enemies to lovers, slow burn, a sense of found family, and your heroines growing…you’ll love this one!
I was gifted an e-ARC of A Whisper in the Night in return for my honest review.
A Whisper in the Night provides a lush and expansive fantasy-world teeming with diversity. It illustrates the enormity and depth of this world through its many POVs (a total of 5), each breathing new life into the story. Even though some of these characters may feel shallow, each has a goal that is abundantly clear, which is a credit to the authors. AWITN’s story and how it’s told through many eyes is probably it’s biggest strength.
Unfortunately, I felt this interwoven story and grand world were let down by the writing.
Because of this, I DNF’d at ~30%
The writing is simple, with lots of telling rather than showing and an ample absence of flourish. I’d kill a man for a comma and some creative metaphors, but alas, they were rarely found. A lot of the dialogue was, at worst, cringey, and at best, uninteresting. Some people may be able to enjoy this book for the great story with its simple prose, but unfortunately I am not one of them. It felt like reading a first draft or fanfiction. There were few grammar pr punctuation mistakes, but rather a loss of… flair? Soul? Creativity?
There was a gaping hole in my heart thinking of how great this book could have been if it had been better written.
I’m usually quite a liberal highlighter when I read but found very few lines to quote, and quite frankly, none of them stuck with me at all.
The world and the interwoven stories of these characters really made me want to love this. Unfortunately, after trying for almost a month, I cannot bring myself to read any more. Hopefully I will find myself giving this book another chance in the future.
Congrats on the debut to these lovely authors and can’t wait to see what else they have in store with some more experience.
Thank you so much Tina Marte and Sophie Critchley for this ARC!
A Whisper in the Night is the first book in a NA Fantasy Romance series with arranged marriage and enemies to lovers romance that I really enjoyed!
Princess Fia isn’t happy when she is forced to marry a prince of an enemy kingdom and neither is her new husband, Fynn. When Fynn’s sister, Zascha, is kidnapped at the wedding, Fia quickly takes advantage of the situation to make a bargain: she will use her powers to help find the general in exchange for an annulment of the marriage. But when it turns out there is a handsome assassin chasing Fia and Zascha doesn’t exactly need rescuing, will they all be able to return to their kingdoms before their enemies, both old and new, catch them?
I really liked all the characters in this book, Fia, Fynn, Mikaiel, Zascha, Juvien and Nika were simply amazing and I loved reading about their adventures and all the trouble they constantly got themselves into. In the beginning, I found Fia and Fynn a bit immature with their behavior during and after the wedding, but they were just so hilarious, I laughed so many times at their antics in those first few chapters. I’m not usually a fan of multiple POVs in a book, but this one is so well written I loved seeing the events through eyes of all those characters and honestly can’t choose who is my favorite, I adore them all. Also, the romances are so amazing, Zascha and Juvien are really adorable and I loved the tension (and the spice) between Fia and Mikaiel, can’t wait to get more of them in the next book.
A Whisper in the Night is a really great Fantasy Romance, I’ve been waiting for some time to read it and it definitely didn’t disappoint. It is fast paced and I wasn’t bored for a single moment and that ending had me so shocked! I can’t wait for the sequel!
This was a really fast paced book with multiple POVs. Sometimes I find having too many POVs can take me out of the story but I really enjoyed this one. The characters were separated so it made sense to have their version of the story. Fia, Fynn, Zascha, Juvien and Mikaiel are the characters we follow in this story.
I think Fia had some amazing character growth and I enjoyed seeing her come into her power. Fynn grew on me and I did find their first interactions a little immature but you can see them both grow into themselves.
I adored Zascha! She's such a strong female character and Juvien helped her development too. I liked seeing their friendship grow even when there were reasons for juvien to be wary of her.
My favourite was Mikaiel as I'm a sucker for an unhinged character who has more heart and depth than you see at the beginning. His interactions with Jessamine the cat were some of my favourite.
Overall, I think this is a fantastic debut and strong start to a new fantasy series.
A wonderful, beautifully written, and fast paced story. Clevery uses multiple POVs to engage and tantalise the reader. I couldn't put it down because every chapter left me wanting more. And without giving any spoilers that last sentence left me crying out for book two. What a cliffhanger!
The strongest part of this book for me was the characters and how their relationships develop throughout the story. Don't ask me to name my favourite because they are all so good. Fynn makes me laugh out loud, Fia is so strong willed, Zascha and Juvien have a complex and poignant relationship, and Mikaiel was the villain you just can't help loving. Probably mostly because of his interactions with his adorable cat Jessamine. To quote Mikaiel she is 'an upstanding kitten of society. On my honour.'
I also loved the banter between Nika and Fynn and sense a little hint of romantic tension there...could this be the direction of book 2? I can't wait to find out. What a debut, can't wait to continue.
3.5/5 stars Thank you to the authors for the e arc!
I honestly really struggled to get into this book at first because I didn’t enjoy Fia at all. She is a bit whiny to me. But then Mikaiel in all his snarky, evil glory arrived. My god I loved him, his pov was so entertaining to read. The side characters if you could call them that from the doubtful fynn to the tough zascha and wonderful juvien were definitely the ones who pulled me fully into the story. The arranged marriage aspect of the story that I heard about beforehand isn’t quite what you expect to find within, and it’s fantastically done. Also loved the lore behind the L’Nox, “fabled beings that are neither monsters nor man.”
There is a lot of potential in this story and within these characters. I definitely look forward to reading the next.
A really fun read!!! I loved that it was a fresh addition to the fantasy genre - female-empowered main characters navigating past misogynists, ugh loved that!! I also thoroughly enjoyed the multiple POVs that breathed their own life into the same story and having all the different perspectives to shift between. I was hooked from the start, and I really enjoyed stepping into this world. Extremely excited for the next book, as this one definitely set up lots of plot points that will continue into the sequel. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is ready for strong female main characters intermixed with morally gray characters while also being thrown into an adventure with delicious betrayals and plot twists.
I followed you along your journey of creating this book and was more than happy to review it for you!
I really enjoyed watching Fia go from a cowering woman to a strong woman through this book. I also enjoyed watching the other characters growth as well. I feel there is still a lot of unanswered questions and I look forward to seeing what is discovered in the next book as I definitely feel like you left room to write a sequel.
This is such an amazing book! The very first chapter gets you invested in the world and Fia. The way the wedding March is described as more of a war March both brought me chills and sadness.
The entire cast of characters is amazing and they have you turning the next page quickly.
Honestly, I cannot read any more of this. I tend to give the book a chance but the writing is rudimentary and the storyline is dragging. I got through about 20% of the book with zero interest in how it continues and no curiosity about the kidnapped general. I don’t care if the spoilt princess ever loves prince Finn. No idea if this will ever come together.
I have been looking forward to this ARC for months and I cannot tell you how much it lived up to the hype. I was VERY impressed with the world building and the character development. And there was a CAT, which is my favorite character in any book. Can't recommend this enough!!!!
