Baines Family #1

Tall, Dark, and Bossy

Rate this book
The first time I met sexy Stanton Baines, I nearly swallowed my tongue.
But that was before he opened his mouth and directed his insolent comments at me.
Not one to back down from a clash, I fired right back.
From then on, Stanton pursued me with a vengeance.
The first thing I learned was he discarded women like gum wrappers.
Second, the control freak thought he could dominate me.
That billionaire might be the boss of everybody else, but he was never going to be my bosshole.
Nor was I going to be one of his crumpled-up gum wrappers.
My heart had been trampled on enough.
Mr. Baines would not be adding his shoeprints to it.
Except he didn’t give up.
The more I sassed, the more he chased.
After he had me wrapped around his pinkie, he left … as in poofed right out of the country without so much as a farewell.
I figured we were over.
Boy was I ever wrong.
I had completely underestimated the man and that alphahole was about to bring me to my knees ... unless I did it to him first.

This is the first book in the Baines Family Novels and it is a stand-alone with an HEA.

I am not liking Tall, Dark and Bossy at all. Stanton character might be painted as a possesive hero, but toward the end, I do not like him. The way he is controlling everything for Stacy makes me ill.

And as for Stacy, she is a typical weak, play hard to get heroine. Miss Hargrove does not adding anything to her story that can help the story.

Anyway.... moving on....

b>Over. The. Top...Everything is over the top in this Tall, Dark and Bossy story.

Stanton and Stacey meet at his brother's wedding reception. Stanton is known to be a player and very bossy and that's exactly what he is when they first meet. However, he does help Stacey with her extremely intoxicated boyfriend and that would normally be a plus except he has ulterior motives.

He pursues her relentlessly which wasn't hard enough unfortunately. And the way it plays out is one of the things I absolutely hate in romances when the heroine is so horny that all she can think about is having sex with the hero. That's exactly what happens here. And she completely forgets about him being a jerk until he does it again in an even bigger and more awful way.

Stanton is still recovering (mentally) from a car accident he was in that involved his Dad passing away. The vehicle was tampered with but there is nothing further said about it being investigated. His mental state is affected even more when he has another incident.

I'd like to say this is the only thing that happened but "poor" Stanton is put through the wringer with all the worse (and again) over the top incidents.

If that's not enough, the "voice" of the book is stilted making things awkward and forced. There was no liking of Stanton and even Stacey is a bit iffy. The only saving grace was Easton.

The only "plus" is the story has a touch of Fifty Shades but not always in the best way. But the story does end nicely. It's amazing how someone can be when they get their way.

Tall, Dark and Bossy by A.M. Hargrove is a billionaire romance with an alpha hero who will drive you crazy and a heroine with lots of sass.
.
Stacey meets her best Friend's brother in law Stanton Baines in the vow renewal party where Stanton rescued her from getting embarrassed by her drunk boyfriend. From there they start a slow but solid friendship that slowly evolves into something more. And just when Stacey was starting to trust Stanton, an accident put him back to a dark place and he leaves suddenly. But he comes back and finds out that Stacey is hiding something and he now wants to push her till he owns her life.
.
So my reaction to this book can be clearly divided into two part. Before and after Stanton decides to leave everything to get his pieces together. Initially Stacey was trying to keep him away but he was so determined to show Stacey and his family that his playboy days are over. And he did. I loved that part. They were explosive and sweet together. Stacey is so fierce and witty and beautiful. She had a dark beginning to her life and still she didn't allow the demons to beat her down. And Stanton was so protective and alpha and caring. And then that accident broke him and he came back with a personality transplant. The things he did to manipulate Stacey were unacceptable. The way he hurt her and punished her didn't fit ok with me at all. That wasn't love. He basically backed Stacey in a corner till she gave in to his demands. I do understand his vulnerability and I do understand that he was upset about that secret Stacey is keeping. But I also understand why Stacey was reluctant to open up and trust him. At the end, it felt the secret became bigger to Stanton than his love for Stacey.

Stanton and Stacey meets at the wedding of his brother and her best friend, she has a terrible partner who leaves the party without her before the night ends, so Stanton keeps her company. They have a burning hot attraction and a lot of chemistry but they choose to not act on it to not rattle the married couple that think a relationship between them a mistake. Will they resist at their first instinct? Or will they make a mess of the situation?

Stacey and Stanton journey wan't easy, they are two multi layered characters and there is a lot more to them than you can see at the beginning. It was nice to know them better and to wish them to get their happily ever after.

I liked to read Tall, Dark, and Bossy and definitely will read other books written by this author, but at times it felt like it was too much, the characters were too much bossy and too much bullheaded, and there was too much drama that at times seemed not too relevant for the storyline.

This book put me in a complete rage. The book starts off with a stalker ex with all the red flags, and then at the end when the H is pulling those same stalker red flags ONLY WORSE it's okay??? I'm all for a controlling possessive alpha in a novel, but not in a novel that has the h actively fighting that against type of man (lawyer that focuses on domestic abuse cases), . But for the H she'll roll over because she can't stop thinking about his dick? WHAT?! What about when he ? If the ex had tried any of that all hell would've broken loose but it's okay for H and literally NO ONE fights him on it? The h's best friend encourages her to go with it??! WTF kind of friend is she?! Not to mention the H's personality does a complete 180 in the second half of the book and not for the better. If you're going to do the personality transplant it's supposed to go the other direction, not from a likeable character to a complete psychopath. I just can't with this book you guys, it's so bad. So. Bad.

On top of that, it's not written very well. A lot of parts are choppy, and entire people are used as a quick plot device that's just never touched on or closed the rest of the book. I will never read another book by this author.

If you loved For the Love of English and For the Love of Easton, then you will adore this story as its the third book in the series though it also easily stands alone. In Easton's book we have met Stanton, as he is Tristian's brother who was injured in a car accident that took his fathers life. Stacy is English's best friend and is also a character we met in that story.

In this story Stacy has a boyfriend when she meets Stanton until her boyfriend acts very badly and Stanton helps her out.

Stanton is a bit of a playboy but when he meets Stacy he wants her very badly. But when things with the ex go badly he is there for her and a friendship that turns into love for these two.

But Stanton is as the book title says is very bossy and Stacy is a strong independent woman and so these two fall hard for each other but they also have to learn to communicate as bossy is something that Stacy can't accept.

This book was super fun and I loved every second of it. I also loved seeing the characters from both English and Easton's books and how they are there for Stacy.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love me a good Alpha story and Stanton is certainly a control freak when it comes to things that are important to him. And Stacey definitely becomes important to him.

I love their friendship that evolves to more. I love how Stanton always seems to be there for her.

I don’t want to give away too much of the book, but they both do a couple things in the book that I was not ok with.

I like a protective boyfriend, but I don’t like how he tried to control every aspect of her life and break her so that she would be more amenable to him. That was just awful. I felt like him winning was more important than his relationship with Stacey.

And secrets are never the answer. I’ll leave it at that.

It was hard to imagine an HEA after all that, but somehow they get their acts together at the end and pull it off!

I received an advance copy of this book from Candi Kane PR and these are my honest opinions.

Stanton is cocky. He's a player, used to getting his way. When he meets Stacey at a wedding, its instant attraction. Both Stacey and Stanton has had a "past" that gets in the way of their happiness.
Stanton is bossy for sure, but its because of his past and his emotions.
When something happens and Stanton just takes off without an explanation, Stacey decides Stanton is no longer a part of her life and tries to move on.
When Stanton returns and tries to explain and finds out what happened, his whole life turns and his bossiness just becomes aholeness.
You really wonder how there will be an HEA after what he does!!
I did eventually love Stanton, Stacy was just a little irritating.

Talk about a love-hate relationship! Stanton falls at the top of the heap in the anti-hero column for me, he is an over the top alpha for sure but he is also a big fat a-hole!

Tall, Dark, and Bossy is the most accurate name for this book, lol Stanton is all three, plus a whole lot of domineering as well. The simple fact that this man does what he wants, knows he a a$$hole and thrives, does things to me that I can’t state here lol.

Stacey, like many women has a past, one that involves being hurt by a man, thus she nurtures her broken heart and begins again. This time however, she goes with the logical choice of partner, the safe choice, sure there aren’t any sparks, but that could come in time. Or so Stacey tells herself. At her best friend's wedding however, her date makes a total full of her and does the one thing Stacey can’t stand. And who comes to the rescue you may ask? None other than Stanton himself. The man that with one glance, sets her entire body on fire. The one man that waves more red flags than anyone has before.

Stanton is a player, a one and done man, sure he can have any woman he wants, but the woman he wants now is Stacey. The second he set eyes on her, he knew there was more to Stacey than just her face. She makes him crave more. More to life than what he has now, and he is more than willing to make the changes to make her his. Stacey takes a chance on him and wow, their chemistry is white hot! Stanton then starts taking over Stacey’s life, but thankfully Stacey isn’t the type of woman to take that kind of B.S from a man, so she throws her attitude around and fights back. Stanton I’m guessing has a little crazy in him, because Stacey’s tude makes him want her more and more.

The story progresses and soon a twist happens, Stanton takes off, no word of warning or goodbye. Stacey doesn’t take this well and decides to try and move on with her life. Then when he rolls back into town and tries to tell her what happened and the reasoning behind it, his life flips on its axis. Then he turns into a full on D-bag. (at this point I almost stopped reading he made me so mad) I don’t want to spoil the ending, but let’s just say that getting to it is so worth the read. I freaking loved this story, the character, even when I wanted to nut punch Stanton and the storyline, it was a whirlwind of drama, spicy and suspense that I just couldn’t put it down. I’m not sure if this is a standalone or if it’s a start to a new series, either way, it’s a total freakin win for me!! Five Stars!

First, let me admit that one of my favorite hobbies is to listen to romance novels on audio and yell at them. "RED FLAG!" "Omg how could you cry out that stupid name? Oh Thurston, you're soooo gooodd! Blah!" I'm not bitter. I just...there is something so ridiculous about reality vs. what we write in this particular genre that I have fun with. So I'm pretty critical. But in a way, I LOVE a terrible cliche romance novel for its entertainment value. But this one...

Halfway through this book, I read over reviews - most of which are good - so maybe I'm alone here.

BUT the main girl in this book has some abuse trauma and is supposed to be independent but there is very little to showcase independence at all. Spoiler alert! She dumps the first guy because he got drunk. Suddenly he's a stalker so she SELLS HER HOUSE and MOVES after it is suggested that she do so and AFTER someone installs security for her. That guy sort of disappears after a drunk driving accident. Then she immediately falls for the main fella in this book and OOPS! Surprise Baby! (UGH!) They break up, she decides not to tell him about the baby (only show of independence) but does eventually tell him - not because it's his right to know but because of the legal implications. SO HE GETS HER FIRED, KICKED OUT OF HER APARTMENT, gets rapey (we are supposed to be ok with this because he knows she really wants it???! WHAT!?) and then forced her to move into his house? WHAT? And .... WHAT? This is more than bossy. Then they elope - she kinda wanted a wedding but he suggests they elope so ok let's elope. And they live happily ever after. WTF? Other reviews are very positive so I must have missed something.

This love story is about two very headstrong, independent people who were never supposed to fall for each other. But fall they do!

Stanton Baines doesn't do relationships. He's never met a woman who has wanted him for more than just his money, so he went through women like "gum wrappers." Until he meets Stacey. She's unlike any woman he's ever met. He loves their banter and that she challenges him at ever turn. When he finds something he wants, he always gets it. So he pursues Stacey with everything he has. He goes from being an asshole to a sweetheart. Stanton can be very romantic. Now don't get me wrong, he still likes to be in control. When you find out about his past, it totally makes sense.

Stacey is a fiercely independent woman. She's amazing. What she went through as a child will break your heart. I love the relationship she has with her best friend English and English's family. When Stacey's ex starts to stalk her, not only does she have them to turn to, she has Stanton. He doesn't go about helping her the right way at first, but eventually, they get it figured out. She feels safe and beautiful with him.

After Stanton has a life threatening scare, he freaks and leaves the country, angering his whole family. He doesn't give Stacey a good reason either. When he returns, oooh it gets good! READ THIS BOOK! You won't be disappointed!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

When Stacey met Stanton Baines, it was at her BFF's wedding celebration/ Even though she was with a date, her body reacted like never before. However his reputation proceeded him, so she just wrote him off as an insta-lust.

After her date thoroughly embarrasses her at the celebration , who steps in to save the day, but Stanton. He's enchanted by her. He's never met anyone like and wants to get to know her better. Reputation of his, be damned!

Stacey is spooked by the behavior of her now ex and Stanton lets the Alpha in him take over. He starts taking over Stacey's life, but she is not the type of girl to be walked all over, so she fights back. The more she argues, the more Stanton wants her.

I loved these two characters, though I feel that Stanton was a first class jerk. I personally would not have been as nice as Stacey was. There definably was a communication problem with these two. Of course, if there wasn't, there wouldn't have been a story. Perhaps I have reached an age, where I need answers first. That's just me. No spoilers in this review. It does look like the beginning of a great new series.

Thank you A.M. Hargrove for the advanced copy.

Ooohh Stanton he is definitely a different breed of a hero for sure. He is an a$$hole and doesn't shy away from the fact. He is also bossy but doesn't quite think he is. But he's been through a tragedy and doesn't know how to deal. Stacey thought she had finally picked a winner of a boyfriend even if they were know heavy sparks she thought they could possibly be a match. Until he had to show himself off a little to much and do one thing she can't tolerate.  So those sparks tho she sure had them with Stanton...of course she would he was a bad boy and she sure didn't need one of those or did she? Maybe she could just play and not get feelings caught up and just enjoy time. So that's what she set out to do. And what happened neither one of them expected. But when another close call happens and a shocking discovery can they really be together?  I loved watching the development of these two characters come together. And the growth they had. And the message of the story is beyond beautiful. This is a definite read and I highly recommend it. And I can't wait to read more from this series!!!

The moment Stacey and Stanton meet there is a spark between them. The chemistry between them is intense from the start.

Stacey has experienced a lot throughout her life, more than her friends have realized. She doesn’t like to be controlled and she is more than capable of dealing with things on her own. Stanton is 1000% alpha male and instantly tries to control Stacey’s life, which she pushes back on, but that only makes him want her more and more.

I loved the chemistry between Stacey and Stanton. The push and pull between them was entertaining and addictive. There are times where I couldn’t help but love Stanton and other times I was frustrated with him for how he continued to push Stacey or for his reactions to certain situations. But, the two of them really balance each other out and bring out a different side in the other.

I love the little bits and pieces of previous characters and I look forward to more of the Baines family.

If you’re looking for a bossy, alpha male, instant chemistry and slightly angsty romance this is one to read.

Tall, Dark and Bossy by A.M. Hargrove is the story of Stanton and Stacey who both have heavy baggage and regrets from their past but they still take a chance in the other while facing their fears and mistakes. Though their initial get together is pretty unconventional, Stacey’s quick wit, headstrong attitude and sincerity in her actions capture the attention of Stanton who happens to be even more stubborn and determined in his wants and expectations. He is also a bit of a womanizer and too much of a bossy alpha-hole but their chemistry and instant attraction is undeniable. Unfortunately, after an almost romantic beginning, their pasts quickly catches up to them and risk their future together by testing their feelings.

This was such a wonderful read. Stacey meets Stanton at her best friends wedding. He is her bestie brother in law. Stanton’s reputation proceeds him and he is arrogant and doesn’t believe in commitments. There is an instant spark when these two meets and Stanton wants Stacey. They both have previous baggage which definitely play part in their relationship. Their journey to HEA is not smooth there are few dramas and emotions and angst filled moments. Overall it was a captivating story and unputdownable. Once I started reading it even though I wasn’t planning on reading it in one sitting I literally binge read it. It was well written. Ms Hargrove is a new to me author and this is the first book I have read , can’t wait to read more books by her and more of Baines siblings. I believe Tristan and English book is already published, I loved those those two and can’t wait to read their story. Definitely a must read!

When you knight in shining armor that saves you from a date that has drank too much at a wedding turns into a control freak that makes him less and less shiny by the moment what do you do? In the case of Stacey to let him in you inner circle for a quick night and hope for the best. But when the quickie ends up being so much more and when Stanton's possessive nature comes out can she walk away? Or are the demons he has been trying to overcome be the one hurdle they both cannot deal with? With great characters and a storyline that had me swooning and hoping for a HEA this was a great read. I cannot wait for more in this series.

The sparks really fly between Stacey and Stanton. I liked this book a lot. The story was entertaining, the emotions intense and the chemistry sizzling. I thought Stacey was a great character. She was so sassy and spunky. Stanton was a grade "A" jerk but I could appreciate that he owned that and, in the end, he snuck right into my heart because he's a devious devil, and simply wouldn't have it any other way. This was a fun read that delivered satisfying feels and swoon, and left me eager to read more of this tempting new series. This is my frank, freely posted review.

I loved bossy, alpha Stanton and strong, confident Stacey early on. They both had completely different, but equally tragic pasts. Stanton wasn’t afraid to go after what he wanted. He set his sights on Stacey, and I loved how he pursued her. Protected her, even when it was a little extra bossy. The sexy times came hot and fast. And, Extra steamy. As we got to the end of the story, Stanton became ridiculously demanding and over the top. It was hard to watch Stacey not be the strong character she was earlier in the book. Overall, it was a good story. Happy to see Easton, English and Tristian again.

Oh my. Stanton Baines. You really are a bosshole, but I’ve got to say, you are rather sweet with it. I loved him, I hated him, I loved him. I think that’s pretty much how Stacey felt about Stanton too. I loved how Stacey handled him, not willing to take any of his control freak ways, she stood her ground, well as much as humanly possible when dealing with sex on legs. A wonderfully sexy romance with some added drama courtesy of Stacey’s dodgy ex. Oh, and lots of sexy time (I loved Stanton’s bossy side in the bedroom). Some wonderful characters, it’s always great to catch up with previous book boyfriends, and of course Easton stole the show with some laugh out loud moments. Kids really are the best. Sinfully enjoyable and totally addictive.

Stanton and Stacey's story is pure awesomeness.
I loved their "forbidden" mutual insta-attraction and strong feelings from the get-go, even though the circumstances under which they met were far from ideal.
As they got to know each other better, issues from their respective pasts surfaced and got in the way. Add to that a hefty dose of bossiness on his part and a fierce drive for independence on hers, and a world of misunderstandings and hurt feelings opens up.
I loved his dominant protectiveness and her strong resistance, their bickering and bantering ... the whole package! And I loved the suspense, because it wouldn't be an A.M. Hargrove book if there wasn't a touch of mystery story thrown in, right?
I truly can't wait to read more stories in this series!

Well the title to this book is a perfect description of Stanton, with much emphasis on the, "Bossy". Stacey is the epitome of good. She works hard to help abused women.

The two will definitely get your emotions going. Stanton will have you swooning one second and set fire to your temper the next.

I love that we get to catch up with English and her family. I'm excited to see where this new series goes next!

Tall, Dark and Bossy is the first book of the Baines Family stories by A. M. Hargrove

This story is about Stanton Baines. He is a billionaire, a total playboy and always gets what he wants. He is at a wedding where he meets Stacey. He feels that they both have an instant attraction. The only problem is she is here with her boyfriend. But that problem was solved by itself because at the end of the day she broke it off with her now ex boyfriend. Stanton starts to pursue her and even though she wasn’t the biggest fan of him at the beginning he starts to grow on her. But he also has a very dominating side.

I really loved this story! For me Stacey became such a wonderful, strong and independent woman even though she didn’t have the best childhold. I love her to pieces! Stanton is such an alpha and he turned the pages on fire! They have such an intense chemistry and you just want more of them together! It was fun that we read about characters which you might know from previous books!

I am already so excited to read the other books of the Baines Family!! Definitely a must read!

Choppy and immature

I tried… I really did. But the h was immature. I get she had a traumatic childhood, but good Lord she snapped at people foe minor reasons. The characters were choppy, something I would expect from a short insta-love story. I skipped around a lot as I had a hard time dealing with all this.
